I come here mainly after work for their happy hour. I can't seem to remember what time it ends but its mainly all wines, beers (tap or bottle), and almost all non top-shelf mixed drinks for $4.

I can't comment on the food since I've never ate here.

In terms of seating, it is quite a big place with several tables and a long bar seating area. Their sofas aren't that comfy and frankly I think they are placed badly.

All in all, if you are in the area definitely stop by for their happy hour and for all big sport games they have a projector you can watch on and smaller tvs all around. GO PATS!

A USC BAR ? IN NEW YORK? *screams*

What a great place to hang out on an SC Saturday to watch USC crush Notre Dame and whoever the hell else thinks they can beat the Trojans. That's right kid, I'm talking to you.

They have two great rooms in the back stocked with televisions and a pool table to bring your favorite 20 or so football friends and plenty of comfy couches. Upstairs is the same with more private spots and game tables. On the ground level is a couple of booths and the bar table itself, prime seating for the huge projection of the game they have on the front wall. Make reservations if you want a table. They go quick and trust me, you'll need 'em if you want to make it through the game.

Drinks weren't too expensive and they had an okay selection of drafts. Didn't try the food, but it looked like your average bar fare. All in all, a nice place to spend a Saturday in NY to gear up for more festivities as the day, and night wear on.

This has quickly become a favorite brunch spot for New York Brainiacs.  They offer a brunch special for $10.00 which includes TWO drinks.

Meal choices include a variety of omelettes, a burger and fries combo, fish and chips, french toast, and pancakes.  In my visits, party members have tried each of the options with positive reviews.

Each table is greeted with a tin of muffins and bread to share.  Drink options for the brunch special include wine, draft beer, screwdrivers and bloody marys.  During my last visit, I managed a buzz off my two screwdrivers, so these are not orange juice with a wave of the vodka bottle.

While I have heard rave reviews for the Smoked Salmon Omelette, I am not an egg eater, so I stick with the sirloin burger.  Cooked to temperature, it includes your choice of toppings--cheese, bacon, mushrooms, onion, and/or fried egg.  What is it with EGGS?!?  The beef is high-quality and, well, beefy.  The accompanying fries are generous, seasoned, and have the potato skins left on, so I can feel like I am eating nutritiously.

Overall, a good value for good food.  The setting is open and inviting, though I have not tried the establish in its pub incarnation.

I always have a nice time at the Galway Hooker. It's a  good spot to hit up when you are with a group. I've been there  on weeknights & on weekends for brunch. Definitely prefer the weekends, during the daytime. The pace slows down & it's easier to have a conversation without having to shout to be heard.

I am a big meat-eater & the sirloin burger at Galway Hooker definitely hits the spot.  My friends are fans of the omlettes and the steak & eggs platter.

The staff at Galway Hooker is friendly & competent. Added bonus: the bathrooms are tidy.

This place is pretty big with a huge TV  facing the second level and smaller ones distributed around the bar. The fries, chicken strips and potato wedges were satisfying after a couple of drinks (isn't everything) and I had a chill time listening to co workers conversations after they're buzzed (so nosy). The bartenders are really nice and attentive here. I never waited long for a drink but it wasn't too crowded while I was there. Decent after work place for a quick drink, not sure I would waste time here on a weekend.

Great pub. Space is massive and reminds me of temple bar in Dublin. Bartenders always know how to pour a pint. Music on point playing hip indie and rock music.

Shame on you Galway Hooker.

Shame on you for calling yourself a pub, when you're just another crappy Murray Hill lounge.

Shame on you for having some dude hanging out in front of the bathroom with colognes, candies and a bowl begging for dollars.  I am not paying to pee.

Shame on you for having the word Hooker in your name but talking about boats and not... you know... hookers.

The rest I can't really blame on the establishment.  It's got your quintessential Murray Hill suit crowd, so avoid this place at all costs.  But that comes with the neighborhood.

The only good thing about this place is that it's gigantic, so you'll be able to sit, and get away from the shoulder to shoulder crowds.

Shame on ME for letting myself get dragged here, and not grabbing the dude collecting the tips in the bathroom and leaving to try and have a good time somewhere else.  That guy probably needed a beer.  And I wasn't buying him one from the bar here.

My friend had his birthday here, so of course I Yelped beforehand to see what I was getting myself into. As the other reviews have made clear, this ain't no Irish pub, but to their credit, they do have at least one uber Irish waiter and an Irish kitchen staff, which totally surprised me. There were also your typical attractive female bartenders, as well as an intimidating number of large black bouncers with headphones patroling the crowds.

As far as lounges go, this one didn't seem that bad. I enjoyed the dim lighting and thought the decor was classy. The bathroom was big and clean and there wasn't a line, which in itself is a commendable feat. The music was decent, the draft beers were all a reasonable $6, and though it was crowded, there was still space to breathe and hang out, and there was plenty of seating. Of course, I left before midnight, so things probably get worse as the night goes on. As far as it goes, this is not a bad place to spend an evening with friends.

One thing that I didn't see mentioned here in the other reviews is the AWESOME sounding Saturday brunch deal: $10 buys you an entree, (options include several varieties of omelet and a bacon cheeseburger), and two drinks, (either a pint of bud, red or white wine, mimosas or screwdrivers and possibly bloody mary's). Shell out $12, and you can upgrade to a full Irish breakfast. I don't know about you but that sounds like a brunch worth checking out!

I swung by The Galway Hooker to join a few friends who are die-hard football fans. I'm not too much into the sport myself, but it's the best place for them to be cheery and happily buzzed, so I found myself in good company and surrounded by a bunch of other football maniacs.  Anyways, I was surprised by this place: spacious with two levels, nooks and crannies for groups, and all in all, a great convening place for any sports fan.  I was famished so I ordered a chicken sandwich, which exceeded my expectations: it was actually deliciously grilled, hot, with fresh ingredients.  I seriously recommend it!  Overall, 3.5 stars ~ great watering hole, although personally, it's not my type of place to chill.

I feel like I must have just had bad luck on the night that I went here, because I had heard that it was a cool place that I should check out.  When I got there, it seemed like a college bar to me.  You know, lots of overweight drunk guys in polos and overweight drunk girls in ugly dresses that they think are cute, but really look like they're wearing maternity clothes?  On top of that, it was so crowded that I couldn't reach over to the bar to grab my drink without my arm being hit hard enough to spill the first few sips.  I finished that drink and moved on to another bar.  This place was recommended by a trusted friend, though.  So I will probably give it one more shot.  Maybe you'll see a review update in the future.

When I first heard the name, I pictured a rinky-dinky pub just like all the other ones in Murray Hill and UES. I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was a GINORMOUS space with several rooms available for private parties. There are pool tables on the 1st floor and a classy lounge on the 2nd floor complete with bar, flat-screen TV, and plush leather sofas and armchairs. The music was fun and wasn't blasting so we could actually hold conversations at decent volume.

I absolutely love the Hooker!  I've been going for a couple of years now and I am never disappointed!  I guess it just feels like home to me.  This past weekend, I threw my best friend's going away party-we had our own room-it was awesome-we even had our own private bar.  We did an open bar, which i was a little worried about, but it turned out to be seamless.  our waitress was so much fun and we never saw the bottom of our cups. needless to say, we were bombed by the end!  And you know where I went the next morning for brunch?  Yep, I'm guilty...back to my tried and true.  Guys!  Brunch is $10 and that includes 2 free drinks!  That's insanity for Manhattan!  And its actually delicious too! I recommend the salmon omelet-my mouth is watering just thinking about it...

Anyway, if you haven't been to The Galway Hooker, you should go in.  The bartenders are some of the best I've come by-they always make me laugh.  You can't leave without a smile on your face!

Can you tell I love this place?!!

This place is not what it seems.  For one thing, there aren't any hookers despite the name of the place, much the chagrin of many of the guys there.  And though its sign says 'Irish pub,' it's really a lounge. But another surprise- the dress code is surprisingly casual. I saw somebody in shorts, although everybody else was in there dressed as if they were partying for New Years Eve. And while it looks really fancy inside, the drinks are as cheap as they would be in a divey looking place. The music is alright-- can't complain about that, especially when they're playing remixes of The Killers' songs, or some Kanye (ok, i have terrible taste in music).

Three ladies walk into a bi-level bar, an Midwestern-come-Brooklynite Indian, an Irish Canadian and a Midwestern Jew.  With this eclectic combo, there is bound to be antics - hence, I refer to them as my A-TEAM.

Joe the bartender was so much fun - he took one look at us sitting there chomping away at the delectable wings and said, "Now, how do you three know each other?"  He mused at my explanation...which I won't burden this review with.  Anyways - because we are such a boisterously charming crew (hehe), he decides to make us a special shot that he had been tirelessly working on.

When he returned with them, we were comically surprised that they were pink in color.   I uncharacteristically blurted out, "Hey whaddaya call this, a blo-jo?"   He bursts out laughing..."actually why don't you help me come up with some ideas for a name - I'm hoping to get it on the cocktail menu."  Yay - I love being asked to participate!   We make him a handy list of potential names on a cocktail napkin, the prize being "Joe's Hooker"

I'm not sure what he ended up naming the shot, but we have memories of a promise for solid beer selection, pretty tasty wings and an awesome bartender that will bring us back to this midtown mayhem marvel of a bar.

I recently hosted a group get together at the Galway Hooker NYC.   We reserved the back room with two pool tables.   We had around 50 people.   The front of the bar was very crowded with the usual Thursday evening after work crowd but we were isolated in the back area.

I selected the Galway Hooker to host my event for several reasons.  Close to all transportation (Trains and Bus) and a central location.  It was also recommended to me folks I worked with at my previous client.

I would definitely host another event here.  The staff was on top of things and my group all had a good time.

This place is a typical midtown bar... just larger.

There are alot of douchy suits.
The beers are overpriced, and there isn't even a good selection.
The music is mediocre at best.

The one plus is that it is large so you should be able to get some sitting or standing room somewhere.

Now while I have never made it to Galway, Ireland, I can say that none of them are probably this nice looking. The place is "aiight" for a drink or two, but I did not particularly enjoy this romp with the hooker...and I also can't seem to get rid of this rash. Odd.

p.s. Someone change the damn lighting and decor...unless you are purposely going for the Boogie Nights 70s porno look.

I've always meant to check out this bar, because like many men, the word hooker brings out my inner Beavis.  The first thing I noticed is that a lot of people who come to this bar are smokers.  Seriously.  I thought there was a huge line outside when I first showed up, instead just a bunch of people slowing voluntarily murdering themselves.

On the inside it was crowded, seemed nice but it was really too dark to tell what was going on.  There are plenty of places to do all sorts of sized private parties.  Upstairs, the back room with the pool tables, smaller areas they can box off, it's a private party-fest in here.  My friend's 30th bday party was in the back room, which was a solid spot between the multiple pool tables and the TVs.  Also, bar staff were coming back often so you didn't have to try and brave the bar if you didn't want to.

Music was all over the place, apparently it was a lot of 80s before I showed up, some semi old school (late 90s/early 00s) rap/r&b after I got there mixing into more modern stuff around the time we left.  By the time I left about 1 it went from crowded to force you way through if you want to live packed.

Best part about the Galway Hooker:  $6 Boddington pints.  Bartenders were also good too.  I'd go back for a private party in the back or upstairs, but probably not to fight my way through all the smokers for drinks in the main room.

I read Andy H's review of this place before going last night and must say he is spot on with his "Boogie Night's 70's porno look".  I mentioned this to a friend as we had a beer at their very long bar and he replied "Yes, except not nearly as cool." There was no roller girl skating by and P.T. Anderson was not in one of the private areas doing blow....I guess that's a good thing.

Anyways, this place is pretty big, lots of private booths, rooms, etc.  Pretty decent beer selection.  Had myself a Bodingtons on tap as well as ordered myself up a burger.  Burger wasn't half bad, nothing to write home about though.  If I am ever in the area I will most likely end up at the Gingerman next door rather than this place.

This place is perfect if you need to unwind after work with a few coworkers/friends. We usually try to reserve the back room with the pool tables and darts so that we have something to distract us from our thoughts. The appetizers are pretty awesome for a neighborhood bar. I usually go with the sliders or the calamari, however the curly fries and quesadillas seem to be crowd pleasers as well.

The beer list is better than most of the bars in the neighborhood, and the bartenders are responsive. It is exactly what you would expect for a local pub in midtown, only the crowd isn't flooded with the ever so popular suited douche-bag.

Single pick up joint - pretty much explains it all for me. The beer selection was good and the authentic irishmen certainly helped me enjoy the pub-like atmosphere. I actually felt like I was back in Boston for a minute. I was so thrilled with the crowd, very little diversity.
The music was pretty awful - very old stuff and it would cut out randomly.
Prices were reasonable all around.
Met some interesting folks. If you know Boston College at all don't be surprised if you see someone from there.
I'm not making an effort to go back.

My coworker organized a happy hour here recently.  My first time to this bar.  He had to clarify the meaning of a galway hooker in his invite.

This place is spacious and good for large parties.  Our team of 30+ people had a nice large open area with 3 booths upstairs.  Especially in the winter time, you want to have a place to pile your work bag and jacket.  The waitress was quick to come back with our drinks since our area was right near the bar.  Appetizers consisted of standard fare such as fried and mozzerella sticks.  Yum.  It's kind of a pubby atmosphere without the crowded small-pub feel.

Conveniently located in midtown east - an easy walk from any of the nearby offices.

Quickly met a friend here last Friday after work and it was a "comfortable" busy, with a young, lively crowd. Two floors, good mix of bar space, tables and booths, would be good for groups.

Don't know of too many good after-work bars nearby, so if I'm in the area with friends or coworkers, I'd stop by here.

6pm on a Wednesday
Party of 3

We had tried hitting up the Gingerman next door but the crowd was insane. Every person in that place better have been drinking some obscure beer because otherwise, why bother?

Anyway, we sauntered over to Galway and grabbed a few seats at the beginning of the serpentine bar, tucked in the corner, away from the main concourse of the bar. I wasn't expecting great service because of our location but I was happily proven wrong.

Bartender was immediately on us and he kept looking over at us and kept the beers constantly filled. When we had the munchies my buddies had the sliders and I had a chicken quesadilla. Standard fare not worth noting but it was enjoyable and filled me up.

As night fell, a big screen dripped out of the ceiling and a baseball game was projected on it. Enjoyable bar and I'd go there to chill with some people after work if I was in the area.

Don't get scared away by its name, this place does not have STD infected hookers standing by the doors for you to pick up. The name actually refers to the name of a boat. Galway is actually my favorite bar for happy hour after work. This place is huge, it has 2 floors plus 2 private rooms. It is always crowded when i come here but its extra large bar on the first floor and another bar on the second floor is more than enough to satisfy all of its thirsty customers. many tv's around the bar, plus they have a giant projector screen playing all your favorite games. no dance floor, you should look for a club if you want to dance. their food is average, had better ones, but it is a bar after-all. but their food selection will definitely hit the spot after 3 or 4 beers. this place can get quite loud with the crowd but it is definitely a nice place to go with a couple of friends afterwork for some happy hour.

OK first off the name. I'm still immature enough to giggle at it. When my friend told me we were going here I totally snickered...and then I learned that a "hooker" is also some kind of ship. Still. Amusing.

Anyways, I was here for a birthday party. It really is a totally decent place to have a party with lots of people. The place is massive. We had reserved an area upstairs with couches and stuff so there was lots of places to sit. This was especially appreciated towards the end of our almost six hour stay at this bar.

The staff were pretty polite and at the beginning of the night they served us drinks pretty efficiently but once it got busy, say goodbye to table service and say hello to pushing your way through the throngs of people at the bar. This place was PACKED upstairs and downstairs on a Saturday. Getting to the bathroom was a major ordeal.
On to the drinks. They were pretty weak. Considering the fact that I was ordering martinis and cosmos, I should have been a lot more drunk then I was.
I was also disappointed that there was no dancing. I know that some bars just don't do that but they were playing a dancey sort of music and it was disappointing to just see everyone standing around trying to awkwardly hit on each other.

Overall I wasn't really impressed with this place. It does have a nice little section if you want to reserve a space for a party but the drinks were fairly week and there isn't much too do aside from sitting around and staring at one another.

A decently stocked and decorated midtown bar with various side room lounges and awkwardly funny name. Though I have gone countless times over the last few months, I've never eaten at the Galway. Though I can't comment of the on taste, from what I've seen, it is fairly standard bar fare, good for padding the stomach.

The after work scene gets pretty packed with a younger crowd. However, with two floors and lots of space to stand or sit, you usually can find a good spot somewhere to call yours.

I held my 22nd birthday at the Galway Hooker after Ana reached out to me through Shecky's Party Aid.  I was given a private area at the bar for 40 of my friends for completely free on a Friday night.

The space inside was clean, cozy and comfortable.  The bouncer told me that the winter months are good for business at this bar and I can see why.  Inside, you are engulfed in sparkly gold and deep red, a combination anyone can fall in love with.  The tables are the perfect size, seating about 5-6 at each booth outfitted with excellent couches.  Beers and cocktails go down equally well in this atmosphere.

Ana gave me about 6-8 tables for my party.  It was more than generous.  I ordered 3 platters of food for $45 each for my guests and they loved it, especially the mini burgers.

The service was great -- unpretentious waitresses came to our area every few minutes to make sure our drink orders were in.  They were friendly and one was even authentically Irish!  The bartenders were equally welcoming.

The stripper pole located only a few feet away from my private area was not lonely either.  What fun, ha.

The bathrooms are immaculately clean and provide guests with blowdryers... why not?  I loved being located on the 2nd floor, especially seeing the crowdedness of the 1st floor around midnight.  The 1st floor is a bit hard to navigate when the place gets packed.

I don't know if I'd come here regularly because the crowd is a bit older, but I would recommend the spot to ANYONE wanting a great birthday party.  I enjoy a club or a lounge for my weekends, but I'd rather be able to *see* my guests and hang out with them in a spacious area for my birthday, instead of being cramped in a dark narrow space.

I stayed for 5+ hours...

So I learned that hooker has many meanings. Sometimes it's a pricey lay, sometimes it's a rugby position, and sometimes it's a boat. I'm sure there's some common theme there, but I'll leave that to your depraved minds to derive. I can't have allll the fun, now can I?

So, we showed up after Todai. Our tummies groaned with too much rice, and we needed a digestif. Magners on ice sounded good. A little light on ice, but it is coming off draft, so makes sense. Every table was reserved, but most of them were empty for the entire time we were there. Also, we were told that we would have to leave our table by 11 PM or start buying bottles. Excuse me?? Bottle service at a pub?? What is midtown coming to??? And then there was a velvet rope added, are you kidding me??? Does everyone have one of those these days? Absurd.

The bathroom is teensy weensy and smells kinda funky, but there's an attendant. WTF? What a confused little place. Too many tricks, perhaps, hardy har har.

Came here for dinner tonight with three friends. Not at all impressed. The waitress took our drink order when we sat down, three glasses of wine and a glass of water. Took her twenty minutes to return with menus and drinks -- she gave the poor excuse that they were having a cork issue. Excuse me, you're a bar, you're having a cork issue?

We placed our order and that took another 20 minutes for the food to arrive. One of my friends was so starving that she requested bread at one point, the waitress returned with it a minute before our food arrived, providing another lame excuse about how they make their own bread but where currently out of it.

I ordered a salmon sandwich, that was 3 bites of salmon and the rest was lettuce and tomato, not worth my $13 at all. My friend said her burger tasted funny, another friend got the turkey meatloaf and said her veggies were swimming in butter. On the plus side, the side that gives Galway Hooker 2 stars, their fries were awesome.

This place is in the midst of such a wasteland, but its not a bad choice for pre-concert boozing for the beer crowd. Out of the way enough that you miss the MSG crowds, but of course, can make up for that with douchebags on the wrong night.

Two levels and plenty of nooks for groups and private parties.  The only times I've really enjoyed this bar were when I was there for going away or birthday parties, mostly because of the service and the unexpected space.

Mobbed during happy hour. Good deals, though.

It has a nice bar space w/2 levels of boozing and eating.  Bathroom entrances are a little odd for me because it's open and you feel like your still "out there".

The finger foods are tasty to help hold your booze (me like the wings).  If you consider on doing a private party, they rope off this lounge area for you to hold it there.

I find that there are some skuzzie suits there, preying on women.  One tried to get drinks and food off us until my buddy wedged himself between us.  Later, the skuz found himself some targets willing to fufill his mooching.  I can't blame the bar.  It's like that everywhere.
