This is an ok, smallish used bookstore that I've visited a few times in Darien. They actually purchased and gave me a decent price for a stack of new hardcover books in like-new condition that I had bought to read when we were moving (I'd previously brought them to another place and they didn't take a single one) . Their own selection didn't really meet the needs of what I was seeking on those occasions, but like most used bookstores it's most likely just catch as catch can. Loved the big box of postcards to sift through.
I really like this place. When you have time to blow and don't mind hunting around for a few hours, then frugal muse is the place to be. I enjoy hunting on some days but if that is not your thing you might be frustrated with what they have to offer. If you want something specific don't bother unless you know its older and might have been a used bestseller. If you're looking for something random to read, this place is a dream.
I usually go to the library for my reading material, but I have been exceedingly slow lately and haven't been able to finish a book before it's due and then it's on hold for someone else and then I rack up the fines, sooo I made it to The Frugal Muse to pick up some reading material.
They have a good selection and good prices.
Why do used bookstores always have that smell? Anyway, it's a good place to find deals on books but it can be hit-and-miss like any secondhand place. You may have to go a few times but worth it. Watch the Reader and the Friday Trib, because every once in awhile (and it is rare) they offer the fabulous "10% off your purchase" coupon. Then, you've really got something goin' on.

Great selection of used books at reasonable prices. They don't offer much for buying and of course you only get the full amount if you take store credit. They run back to their computer every 5 minutes making you feel like there is something shady going on.
Small selection of DVDs and CD. A good selection of children's books.

Some good bargains to be found here, problem is, once you get me in abook store - its hard to get me to leave without buying something! Look for discount coupons in the papers and you can get a great deal
Spacious and comfortable, this bookstore is a nice place to find used or out-of-print titles. If it is not available in the store they offer to special order most books in print.

This place is one of my favorite stores of all time...gently used books, CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs, toys, cassette tapes....on all subjects imagineable. Not ot mention they pay cash for your used items. I love this store!

My first "Frugal Muse" visit was in Madison, WI where my sister used to live. When they opened this one a few years ago, I was thrilled! The more resale book shops for me, the better. This is not close for me, but definitely worth the drive. Take the trip and get rid of your "no longer loved" books in one fell swoop. You won't get rich, but your Fung Shui will be balanced at least!
Ok, so I work here. But I was a customer long before that ever happened. We have everything; books, cds, dvds, audiobooks, sheet music, cassettes, vhs, some videogames. We take stuff for trade and sometimes for cash, too. Stop in some time and see.

Wowie! What a great discovery! I'm amazed at the breadth of selection of used and new books, used CDs and movies and everything! I have a new favorite thing to do in the suburbs! (The former favorite thing to do in the suburbs was, hm, let's see, what *was* it?) This shop teems with tomes on any subject. Fiction, art, romance, criticism, gardening, it's like Barnes and Noble without the fakery. They have a nice room of children's books and activities, as well as a wall of audiobooks, but alas, most of them are on cassette. There's another big rack of DVDs, and several large displays of used CDs (I got some Medeski, Martin, and Wood and Golden Palominos today). Gobs of VHS movies, too, which they seem to want to run out; they have a 3 for 2 sale going now. If you're jonesing for something to feed your brain, stop by. Make a trip of it. It's in the strip mall near Home Run Inn Pizza and an Office Depot.
