been meaning to go back to this place since 2016. I regret waiting so long only because they moved to a new location. I loved their old location on spring st which was in the big victorian house. I heard they moved for various reasons, but I'm sure it was partly a financial decision. the new location is on w ridge rd in the old mcginnity place since they closed. the chef is the same so the food hasn't changed which is a major plus.
new location is dingy and not the greatest, but seems like they also took some decor with them as well as the plating and seating. they painted as well. I'm hoping its just the beginning for them and it might change, but who knows. people will keep coming for the food.
when we sat down we noticed 3 other parties as well were seated. during our time there I think about 5 parties came in for take out. seems like they are doing well. my boyfriend ended up getting the hot chicken which was great and I got the shrimp étouffée which was also great. not that appealing but tasted yummy. we also got the jambalaya appetizer and the banana pudding with beignets. all delicious, no problems. and the best part that continues is the prices. so affordable, we will back despite the atmosphere not feeling the same.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 7, 2016Previous reviewHad no idea this place existed until my friend suggested it after they moved from park ave. I was shocked when i showed up mostly because of the place they have and the prices. the entrance is in the back where the parking lot is. i was almost unsure if it was okay to park in that lot (they should have a sign). when we walked in my mouth dropped and said can i live here?! basically its a historical house with the paint being the only thing they changed with the decor. all the same molding and fixtures. they set up tables and chairs throughout the houses two main big rooms.
so as i said the prices are very affordable for what you get on the menu. the menu could be a tad nicer as in presentation but what was on the menu was awesome! i got to try things i never had before and it was delicious. They have half size plates but for lunch only
They don't have their liquor license yet so we were able to bring our own wine bottles.
I got the chicken étouffée and shared 4 different appetizers with our group of 6. it was so nice cause i hardly get appetizers, but i will if the prices are right. we got jambalaya, jumbo shrimp, sweet potato casserole, and some sort of meat pies.. i forget the name but it was delicious. the only thing i was weirded out from was the shrimp because it still had the little legs on it! not a fan haha anyways the étouffée was amazing and i can't wait to return to try other entrees.
they have an upstairs as well where tables and chairs are set up, kinda looks set up for parties so i'm unsure if they are opening that up for regular service. there is a bar up there with a tiny stage where they will be starting live music soon! they were playing jazz music on a player that night, so i can't wait for the live music!
atmosphere, food, music, service was all really good. - Karen D.NY, NY03Apr 17, 2024

This was a great find! Incredible food, fantastic service, and a very casual atmosphere. The jazz paintings and music a were a nice addition. We could have been in NOLA!

This food was exceptional!! We had gumbo, crawfish budan balls , crawfish etoufee and the bayou plate.
We arrived with reservations and when we were leaving, the wait was 1 hour.
Definitely planning another stop here.
Server was spot on with recommendations and incredibly nice. thanks Neciah!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jarcelyn N.North Chili, NY05Mar 3, 2024
I made reservations on Valentine's Day and took my daughters there. We weren't greeted. We stood there for 5 mins and no one said a single word. They walked by us and didn't bother to acknowledge us, this is one of my biggest pet peeves! This was our first time going to the new location but I doubt we'll be returning.

Such a shame I spent money here. I found out about this place last year when I came back to visit family. I loved it, I had the chicken wings and some other stuff I forgot about and another family member had the Étouffée. Which I did try, but it was nasty. The chicken wings were the best I'd ever had so I was dying to get them again.
I came back this year and this restaurant has had a major down grade. When I tried to order the chicken wings they said they don't serve the chicken wings by themselves anymore. They only sell the chicken wings paired with Étouffée for $16 and you only get 5 wings . Everything I don't want to hear. So I didn't get what I really wanted, instead I settled for the regular chicken and potatoes with a small side of coleslaw. Although, the potatoes taste like they were fried in fish oil, ended up throwing them away. Unfortunately this will be my last time coming here, but I wish you luck if you go. Happy eating!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - Holly Y.Akron, OH73128249Nov 27, 2022
Very impressed! This was our first stop on our Rochester weekend. Beautiful historic building. Friendly staff. The food was out of this world. Would definitely recommend. Priced reasonably.

4th time is not a charm, the food is usually pretty good. We did a take out order and it was just ok. The catfish filet was very thin, it seems they split 1 catfish just to try to make 2, more breading than fish.

Went for dinner here with a party of four. We liked the atmosphere. Great food, nice decor, and music are one of the things I liked. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meals! I recommend!
