I'm a fan!
I had a wonderful experience here. My friend and I arrived around 4 pm on a Friday after work. There were a few people at the bar and a couple other tables were being used. We decided to sit at the bar. I needed to charge my phone, and the bar had outlets...Perfect!
The bartender explained the concept of The Forge to us, their own beers, spirits from DeKalb and wine from Genoa. Very cool, I love to support local. I tried a flight, see my photo, and my friend had wine. We were both pleased, I loved the Hi-Lo, it was a very hoppy IPA, and I also liked the Blueberry Weiss beer. That one was on the border of being a sour, and it was definitely not too sweet.
I also ordered the flatbread app. It was more like their pizza crust with oil, garlic and herbs, but that was fine with me. It came with a side a marinara, and it was only $5, a great deal. I really just needed something to get in my stomach for the evening, the fact that the bread was so tasty was a bonus. The entire food menu is really affordable. It was a small, but mighty menu, and it looks like everything could come out quickly.
From the facade on the street to the decor inside, and from the great menus to the kind customer service, I think The Forge is a winner. It adds a unique stop to the downtown Sycamore strip.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 8, 2018
My friends and I were headed to a wedding in Sycamore and what better way to start things off then with a pre-ceremony drink!? We popped in The Forge for a couple drinks and had a nice time.
Our server was friendly & on top of everything. Beer was pretty good! Atmosphere was fairly chill and lowkey. I love that they do flights here and make their own beer! I didn't expect to find a brewery in DeKalb!
My favorite beer I had was their 9% Imperial Stout Earthquake, but I also loved the Oktoberfest Forge Festbier - perfect for the season! I also tried the Coal Dust (Black IPAs are fun!) and the County Line Kolsh (a 5.3% kolsh with corn & semi sweet corn intrigued me) but were both just okay to me. The flight was a great deal at just $9 - prices for flights vary as it depends on which beers you get but could be as little as $8 for a 4 part taster flight.
Definitely had a fun time here and wouldn't hesitate to go back when in the Sycamore/DeKalb area.Helpful 26Thanks 0Love this 25Oh no 0 - Amy F.DeKalb, IL110463509Jan 29, 2019
Met a new friend here for lunch. Make sure if you are meeting someone and have not been here - go to Sycamore, the location in DeKalb is the brewery and they do not serve food! Apparently I was not the first to make this mistake, thank goodness.
We ordered the soft pretzels for an appetizer - I highly suggest getting the mustard AND the cheese sauce. Delicious!!! We split a pizza and there was plenty for us to eat and ended up taking home some, too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 14, 2016
3 stars...
In town for "one night only" and my good friends recommended we meet at this joint.
I started with a flight of 4 popular IPA options and enjoyed them all. I also sampled the earthquake and found my mouth ordering a pint of it...dark, roasty, toasty, goodness!
We ordered the pretzels which came with an overly spicy jalapeño cheese dip which was a bit much for my taste.
For the main course we tried the sausage mushroom pizza. Average fair but this wood fired pizza had that char flavor that made it memorable.
Ambiance is barnyard brew house and prices are a smudge above expectation considering the location. This joint does not make the list, but I'll be back to give it another try!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bill R.IL, IL01Sep 13, 2021
I had an out of town guest gathering for my daughter's wedding. 22-23 people. It was great. We had the back room and use of the outside dining area. The food was great, service also exceptional. They were nice enough to handle a special food request I had along with their great appetizers and pizza.
Thanks to Lisa for putting it together and to Phillip our server.
All of my quests commented on how it was perfect for our gathering.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brad H.Las Vegas, NV13141Jun 22, 2020
My family and I moved to Sycamore a week or so ago, and were seeking out a good local brewery. We were in luck here! Our families thoughts:
- Inside - We couldn't sit inside because of the lockdown, but it looks really nicely decorated. Rustic, but not too much so, with some large televisions to glance at occassionally. The friendly people including the guy cooking pizzas in the stone oven made it even better. It helps that the food smells amazing here!
- Outside - Simple by nice, flower boxes, and a canopy to keep the sun off of your head. Even though you're outside the waitstaff is very attentive.
- Beer (of course!) - We tried a few, and they were all really delicious, well balanced, and priced nicely. I recommend Tomorrow Rye IPA for the IPA fan, Tremor for a stout (low ABV but delicious), and the 815 Brewnited for the ESB fans. Their take home 4 pack prices are better than the beer store too!
- Food - We have 2 kids so having a good soda and something to eat is important! They both enjoyed the homemade root beer, as well as the soft pretzels and cheese, and the flatbreads. For my wife and I, we love their Buffalo Carson pizza.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Julie E.Palatine, IL0565Aug 9, 2021

This was a great surprise! We split a few of the pizzas...a traditional margherita, a buffalo chicken, and a BLT. The Buffalo Chicken was awesome...nice buffalo flavor with a blue cheese aioli drizzle. The crust on each of them was perfect...thin and crispy with a slight char on the outside. And, try one of their own beers or homemade root beer! My wife loved the root beer float too!

Loved this microbrewery! Having some friends who just moved to Sycamore, we had to check out this local brewery and we were not disappointed. Though we didn't eat, we all loved the different styles of beers from the black IPA (coal dust) to the dark lager (black mamba). In the flight, I also tried the featherweight which was a nice light beer and the old timer which was barrel aged and had some nice flavor. We took a howler of black mamba home and regretted not getting a growler! Highly recommend getting a flight to try a few different beers and not just one.
I will definitely be returning to try the pizza and some more brews soon!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
