It's hard not to feel sexy, cool and important at the Florida Room. I know that might sound silly, but it's true. This swanky lounge in the basement of The Delano was exactly what I was in the mood for on a mellow Tuesday night with the ladies.
Once beyond the velvet ropes, we head to the bar to peruse the cocktail menu. The extensive list of cocktails was impressive. It was like an alcoholic's candy store.
I ordered the Santa Maria, a lively little concoction for a buxom price of $20. Twenty dollars for one drink would normally be a no-go for me, but I wanted to see what exactly $20 would get me here. As soon as I order, our bartender goes to work, muddling watermelon, cutting mint, pouring, mixing, shaking. She was a true mixologist and watching her work was like watching a ritualistic dance.
She did not disappoint. My cocktail was delicious and refreshing. I love watermelon, pinot grigio and tequila. Normally, mixing all of these ingredients in one night might lead me to a late night creep with the porcelain throne, but in a well-mixed cocktail it was simply marvelous!
The crowd was attractive and trendy, while also maintaining a healthy laid back attitude. The live band, Brendan Ohara and Kamakoze (The Big Bounce) were absolutely amazing! Brendan is such a talented and charismatic performer and the band, (consisting of a beat-boxer that could trump Rahzel and a stellar trumpeter) blew me away. No matter what you're musical preference, you could find something to enjoy about these guys.
I can't wait to come back here in the future and stay a bit later so I can check out how the scene evolves as the lounge hits their late night stride. In the meantime, I will have to settle for a spiked watermelon in my apartment upon my return to DC!
Sometimes you have to pay top dollar for quality. You may have read that the drinks are on the expensive side here but they are also amazingly fresh and well made.
Mixology, much like the cupcake and froyo crazes is late on the scene in Miami. Still, I hope mixology find a strong niche and accumulates a large following. Last time I was here I was able to have the greatest pico sour I've ever tasted. How fresh was it all? Well the eggs in the fridge helped.
While you may not understand the cocktail cult it's impossible to not understand how talented their Tuesday night house band is. Brendan O'Hara and the Big Bounce fill the room with a mix of old and new sounds, perfect to dance, sway, sing, or just listen to.
If you come any other night you're likely to find a talented DJ and a house full of people ready to have a good time.

Oh, Florida Room....you are my favorite lounge in Florida.
Seriously the best music in miami. Great spot to dance all night long as they are open very late. Lots of good looking and ecentric people here makes it a perfect people watching spot. Bartenders are awesome too. I saw some fresh blackberries and asked him to make something up using them. He came back to me with a fabulous blackberry concoction and did it with a smile. I would give 5 stars if the drinks weren't so freakin expensive but alas that is the sobe norm. Also after a long night of dancing it is great to lounge for a few on the hammocks outside. Just beware if the guy from the pick up artist is around, run the other way!
Go early so you don't have to deal with hectic door and dress to impress. It always helps :)
Coming from Manhattan, I'm used to paying a pretty penny for a well-done cocktail and Florida Room does a drink right. While it was pretty empty at 2am on a Thursday evening (le sigh) I was told that on weekends the Florida Room goes off and thus I'm waiting on that final 5th star until I have a chance to experience it again in November. In the meantime, the long, empty "high school gym" hallway leading down to the bar didn't properly prepare me for the beautiful intimate interior. The banquettes were made to be danced on and the DJ was meant to be danced to. There were a few kids moshing in the corner in what looked like neon bathing suits and from the way they filled 'em out the might still have been in high school...but hey, it's Miami. One big lesson I learned on my trip to this paradice is that almost anything goes, there's no law and no enforcement if there was a law -- sorry David Caruso.
The man in charge, Josh, greeted us and despite our already full drinks and the impending closure of the bar (due to emptiness more than necessity) offered us a round. When I asked for something with bourbon, I watched happily as the bartender grabbed chunks of fresh fruit from jars and made magic happen. Josh told me that all their bartenders worked in Manhattan so they know how to make the real cocktails I'm used to up north. And it's true. My drink was delish. Combine that with a hot crowd and crazy music and it's my new favorite lounge in a New York Minute.

THE best place to hang and drink and just stay... The Delano as a whole is probably my most memorable weekend getaway ... we never left... its pricey and its that way for a reason..truly a trendy, yet beautiful place. High cielings...sheer fabric hanging give off a very sultry feel.. walk outside, the grounds are a beautiful feel as well...this is the place to only be with a someone... not an anyone.. And yes it comes at a premium ... its in Miami... enuf said..
The very definition of a mixed bag for me: on the plus side, an absolutely gorgeous space...gigantic vaulted ceilings giving way to epic shears of translucent fabric framing, in turn, the people hobnobbing below, a teeming mix of the see-and-be-seen box set (erstwhile rappers, the surgically -- ahem -- enhanced, a small but fey pack of hipster-ish contingent, those given to the embroidered sportcoat), and our little band of merry pranksters. Maybe seventeen dollars for a pair of Especials is par for the course in South Beach, but it's also a little dodgy.
On the up side, loved some of the sculpture (both ambient lit and mod), the gentle breezes that seemed to follow throughout, an underground bar (literally as opposed to figuratively), and one of the most fantastic and intriguing jazz-hop acts I've seen in many moons. There was a mess of fun going on downstairs, and if we could have gotten there without having to put up with the velvet rope ridiculousness (which we navigated just fine, but still...really), it would have made the best parts of this bar all the better. I will say this: what I liked about this place I really, really liked. It's just some of the hoops you have to jump through / put up with to get to the good stuff that tend to make you ready for a cold one on the other side.
4.5 Stars...
Dear Florida Room,
It is always a pleasure to hang out in your atmosphere. The live music is always excellent and you always choose amazing performers. You are definitely and quickly becoming the "IT" venue for live music performances.
I've never had a bad experience with any of your bouncers/door men. They are always pleasant and at least take their time to explain when there's a hold up. They always let us in and I am always happy for their hospitality. So thank you for hiring excellent, friendly, and customer-service-oriented staff. It makes all experiences here that much more pleasurable. Your bartenders are also quite friendly, which makes the crowded bar experience go by quickly.
So far I have seen Brendan O'Hara several times, and I made it to the De La Soul show. Never am I disappointed! The close-quarters makes the concert experience so much more intimate and personal. You really get the chance to feel like you are getting a personal, private, 1-on-1 performance! For these experiences, I am truly grateful.
Sometimes, though, the close-quarters do get a little tight... Almost unpleasantly so. Perhaps you may want to consider not letting as many people in. It can become quite crowded making it difficult to move, get to the bar for drinks, and even just to breathe at times, due to all the smoke and people. My one other gripe is definitely your drink prices. I only drink Johnny Walker straight... And I am always charged the same $18.00 per drink. I guess I understand... But a couple of rounds and you're in the hole more than you realize!
Florida Room, I do have a great time EVERY TIME I am there. :) Thank you. Keep bringing those amazing performers!!! We'll be seeing you very soon.
xoxo,
Sabrina*
*The Out-of-towner's perspective*
The Flo Room had the best combination of atmosphere/decor/exclusiveness/service that I experienced in South Beach. Situated in The Delano, this is the epitome of South Beach pimpness in my opinion. The live Latin music performances are what you would hope to find in Miami, along with a lively, good looking bunch of people. Drinks are expensive, but not any more expensive than any other South Beach club/lounge would be. The in-door smoking thing take a little getting used to, being from California.
One word of caution - please plan/make sure you have the right connections to get in here. Pay the right people if you need. However you go about it, they are very strict with the list, and it'd be very difficult to talk your way in if you weren't already on the list.
Thanks to very beautiful and friendly Katya for hooking up me and my crew to get in!
So the entire Delano grounds are pretty nice. Very high class setup. The Florida room is setup with different size booths and couches. Most of the couches had reserved signs on them, which we quickly removed when we sat down--no one ever came and asked us about it. Drinks were good, over priced like the typical south beach clubs.
Overall, nothing spectacular. Would come back though.
Apart from the steep drink prices (beware the included 18% tip), I love this place. The music is good, bartenders are nice, bathrooms are clean, space is comfortable. I love getting the night started with a relaxing drink out by the pool and then come into the Florida room for music and dance.
I've brought my girlfriends here. I've brought coworkers here. I've brought my little brother here. I even brought my mother here. If my boyfriend and I go out, then we usually go here.
Saturday nights are the best. From 8pm-midnight (I think) they have live music courtesy of The Fox Brothers band. I really can't do this band justice, but they're fantastic. You have 20 year olds and 80 year olds just sitting and watching, tapping their feet with their eyes closed or laughing while they clap to the beat.
This place doesn't get crowded until past midnight but I PREFER to come early and just enjoy the music. Plus, after 11, it's a lot harder to get in... I'd rather just stroll right past the rope.
The drinks are pricey but, oh wait, we're in South Beach. Plus, I honestly think this is one of the best bars I've seen... fresh fruit as far as the eye can see and NICE, yes I said NICE, bartenders. The white sangria is delicious, and my boyfriend laughs at me as I fish for leftover blueberries after I've drained all the liquid.
Truly one of my favorite places on SoBe.
I've only been here once and it was for a special event put on by GenArt so I think the crowd was not indicative of a regular night. the place is nice enough, with a very chill ambiance. the drinks were good (mainly because they were free for the event), well made and strong, but the cost is normally pretty pricey - considering the kind of club and location we're talking about, however, this is expected. the live music playing was a bit on the loud side, but that's probably got more to do with the space then the music....
that is my only real complaint about this place, it is slightly claustrophobic with very low ceilings. it seems this place gets crowded really fast and feels even moreso due to the aforementioned. also, even though it's an indoor club and kind of closed-in, they allow smoking which really kills the enjoyment (even if you're a smoker). on a regular weekend night, packed with people, loud music, and tons of smoke, I cannot imagine that I'd want to pay upwards of $20 a drink and/or enjoy myself very much. the idea of seeing a full-fledged concert in this space, honestly does not appeal to me very much.
the place is decent - I'd even go so far as to say nice when the size of the crowd is maintained on the intimate side - but I cannot see this becoming somewhere I would frequent.
I went here on a Tuesday night to see Brendan O'Hara do his thing on the grand piano and it was incredible. It was a really fun scene, lots of Miami hipsters and great vibes. The drinks are mind blowing as are the prices. Holy COW! 50.00 for 3 drinks. Seriously? I guess they can do that due to the fact that they have the top mixologist in the country and the martinis are like nothing you will ever have anywhere else. I was inspired to go shopping to "up" my hipness which I will do when I return to town.
Get over there on a Tuesday night! Its a great show. Really.
3.5 stars to be very fair.
it was a tuesday night and i saw an event posted on yelp at the FL room. free mojitos but you had to mention "local golden" or something like that to the bartender. my friend R picked me up from my place while i was on the phone with someone and because of this i forgot the 'password' ... ok not only because of that cause im a bit of a burn out too. but free alcohol? :::smacks his forehead::: damn it!
so we walked into the delano...wow, a lot of security, but...crazy. why is that? whatever, everyone was nice though, at the door, at the second door , at the third door, behind the first set of velvet ropes and also behind the second set of velvet ropes. they were all very nice gentlemen.
once inside the FL room is not hard to guess that the drinks will be pricey. the decor is very nice. its kinda dark but elegant and sexy. theres a beautiful chandelier in the middle of the room which last night was packed with beautiful ladies. so... i lost hopes on getting a free mojito. what to do? well, let me grab a beer. i go to the bar, the beautiful bartender takes care of me very attentively. i get two red stripes. i hand her my credit card. 'would you like to keep your tab open?' cutie asks me and i said no, just cause i wasnt planning on hanging out there for too long. so i get my bill. its 17$ ...of course im sorta blind too and didnt notice gratuity is included so i add 3$ extra, sign it very confident and thats when i notice that in the bottom of the bill reads: 18% gratuity included. FFFFFFFUCK! what was i supposed to do now? eemmm excuse me, may i get a new print out? not so glam, so i just left it like that. i walked back and handed R his precious beer. ive never drank a beer so slow in my entire life. i should have drank half of it and add water cause the live band was actually pretty dope. (brendan o'hara) so whatever, point is. the florida room is very nice. very comfy, very lots of nice things including very expensive. so if you dont mind spending 200$ for a night of fun then this place is for you... or you can always bring your flask. what? tacky? so what? its called being indie-rock.
We planned a night out at the Florida Room on Saturday night to see De La Soul. Five of us RSVP'd and confirmed to attend. After a few $14 drinks by the pool, we were ready for the show... but got directed to drink up, leave the hotel and wait with a crowd on the sidewalk. After about half an hour of chaos & buzz-kill, people being turned away and general confusion, we had our turn with the bouncer. He slowwwwlly thumbed through pages and pages of names and then despite confirmed RSVP's - and even showing the RSVP emails to him - he said 'not on the list'
This wasn't Lil Wayne or Kanye... this was De La Soul... in 2009... and they couldn't handle an RSVP list??? Really? The bouncers blamed the promoter (Giant Step) and said they couldn't do anything. We went inside to the hotel staff who blamed the promoter and said they couldn't help us.
I know the Delano isn't hurting for business - but, while they want to blame the promoter... I blame the Florida Room, the bouncers & the Delano staff - rude & unprofessional across the board.
Have you ever wanted to go back in time where swank was super class and bar tenders were on the high end? The decor is stunning, the drinks are spectacular and the evening is delightful.
Highly recommended for that special night out. Wear your best jewels ladies, sexiest strappy shoes and a super flowing dress. Gentlemen, rock the cuff links and treat your date like men did back in the day.
Drinks that I recommend: Mexican watermelon and whatever I had that was pineapple and cardamon. Tasty!!
And the sound is great for a live show.
I'm an avid lounge person and I travel all over the place clubbing to entertain clients. Being from Miami I have never been to impressed with anything down here really but wow....
The Florida Room is incredible. Its almost setup, well it is setup as a restaurant. The women inside are quite possible the best selected women out of any nightclub / lounge in the US. Yes better than LA, ATL, NYC, and Vegas. They really control the crowd and door here which is a good good thing. I was the first person in the lounge that night to sit on top of my table and the management came over and bought me a drink.
Another + is the service here, bar none its top notch. The servers will oblige to any normal request with a bottle. We asked for raspberry and watermelon juices for Vodka and nothing else. They came to our table with fresh fruit and muddled + strained it for our mixers.
Do yourself a favor and eat at the sushi place upstairs, make reservations for the Florida Room after.
We went on a Tuesday night and had a blast. The music was great both live latin & DJ spinning alot of 80's plus hip hop. Drinks are pricey with lots of attitude to go around, expected it. People were pretty cool and friendly, nice 20/30 something crowd!
Bad service!!! My boyfriend had a birthday for me party at florida room last weekend and was such a disaster! The only thing good about this place is the decor( way to go Lenny!) My bf has visited a number of times and taken his clients there but he isn't huge on the place, I thought that it would be fun to have the party there (big mistake!). Our drinks were bad (watered down!!) the staff was rude to say the least and our waitress kept trying to hit on my boyfriend once she heard who he was and what he did (you could see the $ signs in her eyes), she was allll over him (very unprofessional), he even asked her to "back off" she had absolutely no consideration for the fact that it was my birthday and that he wasn't interested in her! The guys at the door were very rude to my friends until the finely realized who they were with, the music was ok? You can hear the same mix at any other lounge in miami. We ended up leaving halfway through the night because it was such a nightmare (we ended up having a lot more fun at sky bar! Great staff and killer drinks) I love the hotel and always stay here when I'm in miami I just can't stand the florida room!
I made my first visit to The Florida Room last night, and was uber-impressed. It was practically dead, which could be attributed to the fact that it was late, and a random Thursday night in the dead heat of August. That being said, half the place was closed off, and we got in right away, which was definitely nice.
The minute I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the big glass piano. How awesome! If I was a little more intoxicated and at all musically-inclined, I probably would've tried to play something.
Their drink menu is definitely the way to go - they have some unique combos. And when you're paying almost $20 for any kind of drink, why not get something superb and unusual instead of your standard Crown & Diet? I wanted to get a mango mojito, cause that's the mood I was in, but as luck would have it, they were out of mango. That turned out to be a great thing, because it made me choose again, and I opted for the White Sangria (it had a longer name, but I don't know what that was...), and it tasted like a cool summer night in a glass. That's definitely my drink of choice whenever I may return!
Got here early on Saturday night. The place was dead until around midnight so we hung outside near the Blue Room until it started to pick up. While the transition from the Florida Room to the Blue Door was fine, trying to get back in with a drink was a bit of a hassle. For whatever reason, they make you leave the hotel, walk outside, and stand in line to get into the Florida Room. Once the place started to pick back up, the dance floor seemed to have three simultaneous bachelorette parties going on...I don't remember much after that.
beautiful setting [*****]
lousy, really lousy cocktails [*]

/2 = [***]
you should expect them to be able to put together at least a classic mojito in Miami, right?
have a beer and enjoy the place.
This place is pretty cool but the doormen outside are always total assholes and the servers/bartenders inside are all rude. For some reason, chicks love this place so it's always a good place to scope out but if it didn't always have such a crowd of ladies, I doubt that I would ever hang out there.
cool speakeasy vibe
lenny kravitz designed room
entertaining crowd
Ready to shell out nearly $20.00 per drink? Head on over to the Florida Room, where it's hip to sip yourself into the poorhouse. On the upside, the decor of this place is incredibly swank and I've seen some great live music here. Furthermore, the eye candy is top notch and the Pisco Sour is delicious enough to be worthy of my hard-earned dollars (who doesn't love watching a cute bartender whip an egg into frothy alcoholic goodness?!?) From what I hear, the other specialty drinks on their menu are nothing to be sniffed at either. Great place to go with a group of friends (I suggest pregaming) or to bring a (wealthy) date you want to seduce under the favorably dim lighting.
The Florida Room has been a favorite of mine ever since I came here when they opened last year and Jamie Foxx was celebrating his birthday. We always have a great time and the drinks are incredible! Instead of ordering your usual vodka/Redbull, I highly suggest going to the smaller bar where it's a little less busy, talking to the bartender and asking for a suggestion. Unlike other Miami bars and clubs, these bartenders will take the time to make you a great tasting drink and it is worth the money.
As far as getting in, you can call ahead and make a reservation or go early, but like anywhere, it's all about who you know and if the ratio of your group is decent.
I think Friday night is the night for the live band, but I usually go on Saturday, so I'm not sure...
Oh yeah, you don't have to go through the hotel to get in, just walk along the north side of the Delano and the entrance is on the side of the hotel.
Recommended as a great place to start the night and hang out, talk a little, dance a little, then it's time to move to Rokbar or Mynt!
The Florida Room was recommended to me by the cutest Greek server upstairs in the Delano at Blue Door Sushi. However a quick search of Yelp yielded no direct result, except a reference to it in Lo-an L.'s review of the Delano - http://www.yelp.com/bi... - which said that "... unless you're a guest in the hotel, you will need reservation to come in." So I asked Cutie Server what was the deal with that. Being a gentleman he told me "It should be no problem for a beautiful woman like you".
So off me and my breasts headed to the downstairs back of the Delano and was welcomed in by the great (and cute) doorman. WOW, now this is the type of place you think of when you think of cool Miami places - great drinks (albeit expensive) made with fresh ingredients, a cool and intimate setting (think small tables and small banquets), THE CROWD (think models, pro ball players - was introduced to a baseball player - and men in suits. While these people would usually annoy me everyone was surprisingly friendly and that was the best part of being there! Guess I should get rid of my own preconceived notions of THE CROWD, huh?) and most importantly a kick ass band (The Fox Brothers Band - http://www.myspace.com... - featuring two Cuban artists, playing excellent Latin music) who was followed by a DJ and people who were dancing to the music (Including a cutie, whose brother was in the band, spoke no English who asked me to dance... Come se dice "Stop dancing and take me home?" en Espanol). AND can smoke inside (a plus from a girl who lives in San Francisco aka land of the no-smoking inside) . Loved it, Loved IT, LOVED IT!
Some helpful hints:
Best time to go: 10:30 - 11 before The CROWD arrives
How to get in: Stay at the Delano, make a reservation, walk in like you belong, be a girl with big breasts, be a guy surrounded by girls with big breasts or be a celebrity.
What to order: A made to order Sidecar topped off with a fired Lemon peel to heighten the flavor of the Lemon - yummm! or uggg as my liver must have been saying after drinking 4 of these
