Neighborhood: Olde Kensingtoni have had some really, really good experiences at the fire. i've also blacked out beyond recognition which can only lead me to believe (or hope) it was a good experience. i live right around the corner, so it's really easy to stumble out when i've been drinking at home, alone, on a weekend night and check out what may or may not be good at the fire. surgeon, sort-of the house band, is really good. others, eh not so much. but i am a big believer in turning any experience into a good experience, so i still manage to have fun. staff's cool and drinks are cheap and i love not having to venture far to see live music.

The first time I ever did an open mic night was at The Fire, so it will always hold a special place in my well-worn heart. In fact, well-worn is a good way to also describe the inside of this place, which, while not exactly scary, isn't ever going to impress you.
What will impress you is the local music that plays here on a regular basis. It's a great place to get your start as a musician, and the crowds, while sometimes sparse, are usually supportive. Unless whoever is playing really, really sucks.
They've also got a good local beer list, too, so if the music is particularly crappy, just knock back a few, finish with a shot of Jamison's and remind yourself that you could be listening to the next big thing. That's probably what people had to do when I sang there years ago...and now look at me :)

This is a great place to see local talent and bands running through the area. They also have an open mic night on Mondays which is cool for up and coming musicians. They keep it real with local brews: Yards, Philly Brewing Company, and Schmidt's on Tap. This place is kinda filthy too, occasional puke in the urinal and graffiti everywhere. But that's what one can expect from a good ol' dive like this. They also show the bands simulcasted on TVs at the bar while they are playing on stage in other section of the Fire, so if your a cheap bastard, or a bum and cant afford 7 bucks you can watch on the TV screen while you toss back a few.

Only been here once, but I really liked it. When I was there last, before the show a couple of firefighters from next door sitting at the bar drunkenly singing along to "Behind Blue Eyes" playing on the jukebox. Drunken sing-a-longs to classic rock is the hallmark of a good bar.

One of the best small places for Local Philly music. The staff are dedicated to helping out the scene and bringing in many diverse acts. many of the staff members are even in good bands themselves (members of Seizure 17, Hezekiah Jones, and Surgeon). You end up with a great variety of shows as a result, and they even have great monthly residencies and all ages shows. The Fire also offers a reasonable recording deal for any band who is looking to do a live album.
The bar part of the venue is also fantastic. Drinks are inexpensive, and the bartenders are good people who also have a great sense of humor. and the food is pretty damn good for a concert venue bar. I reccomend anything on their well stocked vegetarian menu. and of course you can't go wrong with any bar that has a Ms. Pac Man table :)

Oh, Fire. I spend too much time in you.
Seriously, though. My band plays here more than many places. The bartenders and owners are always super friendly--even knowing that I don't drink (I give my drink tickets to bandmates and other friends).
I enjoy their comfortable environment and running into 100 people on the busy nights. I've shared the bill with many a talented folk there.
Thank you for constant fun.

From what I gathered on my first visit, this is a nice little bar complete with Ms. Pac. Cheap bar food, expensive beer, good people.
For some reason, it reminded me of Michigan. Maybe it was because I could smoke inside an establishment or maybe just the people around. Take that for what it's worth.

I absolutely own this Ms. Pacman machine.
The best thing about this place is when they put out sidewalk tables and seating during the summer months. You know, as if everyone loves the picturesque views of East Girard and North Philly.

i went for the music, which was awesome btw. don mccloskey is amazing, you should check him out. the venue itself is ok. kinda dumpy, which is fine b/c i wasn't expecting too much. the bartenders were nice, but they kept running out of beer. how do you only have coors lite left at midnight? overall i'd go back to see another show, but not to solely hangout and drink.
