Having worked in many neighborhoods, Flatiron probably has the worst lunch options.  The Fiftth Ave Epicure solves my problems with a selection of darn-near everything.  My personal favorite is the plain tuna sandwich that they have premade in the case.  No mayo but a slice of cheese with onion...delicious!

Just please brush before you get back to your workday (tuna, cheese & onion breath is just not fair to your co-workers).

One star missing because they are too busy to deliver correctly.

This is a good lunch place if you can't decide what you're in the mood to eat, because they have a large variety of options. They've got everything - soups, sandwiches, salads, hot items like quiche, mac & cheese, lasagna, and chicken pot pie. Their soups are surprisingly good for a no-frills deli-looking place. They have something like 8-10 soup choices each day, including at least a couple vegetarian soups. I've really enjoyed both a creamy butternut squash and a hungarian wild mushroom soup. Cream in soup makes everything better! Also good? Bagel chips dipped in bagel soup. Mmm.

I am not big into sweets but one day while waiting on line I saw a smores bar calling to me. It did not disappoint.

It's not the cheapest place in the world - you'll probably spend less $ hitting up Bravo Pizza next door - but the selection makes it worth it. Especially when you're having one of those indecisive days (story of my life!). And there are certainly many other lunch places in the area that put a much bigger dent in your wallet (ahem...City Bakery...).

Just started to pick up lunch here last week.  I tried the salads twice - the indonesian salad and one of my own creations.  The indonesian was not what I expected.  It was full of canned water chestnuts which had an unappetizing flavor that ruined the salad.  I find that they do not give enough greens for the size of the salad (as compared to other gourmet salads at Chop't and Tossed).  For $7.95, I expected better quality ingredients.  The two dressings I tried, one spicy ranch and the asian sesame, were both disappointingly bland.  I preferred to eat the salads without using any of the dressing on the side, because it tasted better without.  I am hesitant to try their salads again.  Perhaps I'll fare better with their soups and sandwiches.

Found this place one day when looking for lunch. They have an amazing selection of foods (soups, salads, hot dishes) and excellent  prices. You can get a hot dish with a side salad for less than 7 bucks--great by Manhattan lunch standards. Service is good, and even though the pay line looks enormous, the line moves quickly. These guys know what they are doing.

5th ave serves excellently prepared lunch - quick with amazing choices. You can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches, soups or salads.
If you must eat at your desk....this is the place to get the food.

Custom and pre-made salads and sandwiches are great here - amazing Cobb Salad and Grilled Vegetable on Ficelle for the same price as the crappy stuff you get at other delis.

I would give it five stars except there was some serious sketchiness with pricing some of my custom orders.  I order the same thing everyday and the price changes everyday... I've even seen a guy erase the price originally written and make it higher and I've witnessed other customers making complaints about the daily differences.  Why would you do that to your regulars?

I've never said anything (which is very unlike me) simply because I go so often and do enjoy their food very much and their service for the mostpart.
