Neighborhood: Phinney RidgeI really adore this yarn store and always have.
Parking is easy, location is great, staff is plentiful, friendly and helpful. The yarns they carry are right up my alley and I rarely leave without buying anything. They have a very nice selection of patterns/books/needles and a pleasant but unpretentious environment.
One hint for shopping here - be aware that the lighting is a bit strange, particularly in the rear of the store. I'd suggest taking your yarn to the front door/window area to see it in daylight before making your final color selection.
I also wish they weren't quite so stingy with the punch card system (one punch per $10 spent). I can spend $49.85 and they will still round down to four punches.
Yes, there's larger more trendy yarn stores around but I love this Greenwood shop and visit it more than any other yarn store.

The Fiber Gallery in upper Phinney/lower Greenwood is a great yarn store--unpretentious, well-stocked, and close to my house (important for yarn emergencies). They also have a great "frequent buyer" punch card plan which gives you a $20 store credit for every $200 spent. (Spending $200 at a yarn store isn't too hard when you have the habit--er, lifestyle.)
There are perhaps better-merchandised yarn stores in Seattle, but I find the Fiber Gallery has everything I need (and an awful lot I don't need but somehow can justify to my husband) and they get in enough new inventory to keep things fresh. Plus, you won't be confronted with any 'tude or glaring looks from the staff when you come in with your "stupid" knitting questions. The Fiber Gallery is great!

This is absolutely my favorite yarn store. The staff is very friendly and helpful without being overbearing, they carry a good variety of yarn, and it's all reasonably priced.
Aside from a small display of fluffy novelty stuff towards the back, almost everything in the store is simple, good-quality yarn -- think Cascade 220 and Lamb's Pride on the cheaper end, and melts-in-your-hands 100% cashmere at the pricier end. They also have a section of eco-friendly yarns, with everything from naturally dyed wool to recycled viscose in bright colors.

They call these earth friendly fibers, which is great, but it's the textures and colors that will make you forget everything else. These yarns are gorgeous, hand dyed and some are downright unusual. Buffalo? Musk ox? Camel? Soy silk? They sound weird, but feel and look amazing. There are also plenty of fun yarns, like the furry ones I use to crochet scarves for my teenage daughter. They offer tons of classes in knitting, crochet and even rug making. If you're at all fiber crafty you have to check out this store.

I could spend hours here running my hands over the yarns in this store. The classes they offer are reasonably priced and the staff is helpful when they catch a minute between ringing up customers. There are also late hours on certain days for when I have to work a little later than usual.
