Lucky for b'more, Starbucks figured the average income was too low to bother opening any Starbucks locations for many years. This gave independent coffee shops a chance to set up shop and Baltimore now has a TON of great unique independent coffee houses.
Evergreen is just one of the many cool places to hang out in baltimore, It's the kind of cafe you wish existed in your own neighborhood. Super crowded on weekends, but lots of funky and eclectic seating space. They have a giant skylight in the middle with hanging plants around it - Evergreen just FEELS green. :)
Plenty of choices for coffee, tea. Lots of great sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. I'm perfectly happy grabbing a table on the weekends and eating breakfast and lunch here. I just love the vibe of this place.

A pretty large coffeehouse with neighborhood feel. They have freshly roasted coffee, but also serve soups, salads, rolls, etc. You can sit for hours and talk, browse through the books in the shelves, read the newspapers, or bring your laptop and use the free wireless Internet. It gets crowded with families on Sunday mornings.
Awesome; great scones, cookies and sandwhiches...friendly service...it's really worth visiting.
