I've been to The Establishment twice - and had both Jackie and Justine cut and color my hair.
Let me tell you how amazing it is to find a place where the stylist actually LISTENS to what you want, and makes helpful suggestions without being pushy.
Both times that I went, I had a vague idea and a few pictures, but hadn't decided on anything concrete. Jackie suggested a great color and a slightly shorter haircut the first time - and Justine came up with a fun new twist with the cut and perfected the color when I returned the second time.
The vibe is laid back and friendly, the girls are amazing, and every time I leave, I feel fantastic. -

Yep, definitely a regular now, with Justine. She always seems to be in sync with what I'm looking for. While I'm very particular about my bangs, the rest of it I'm kind of wishy washy about, and she always executes everything brilliantly.
I've referred three people now to Justine, all of whom rave about her to me and intend to stick with her. They all say the same thing that she's warm, friendly, and gives exactly the haircut they're looking for.

I mean really, why do your hair BEFORE you get it done?
I typically get my haircut 4 times a year and I've loved my cuts by Stephanie. The staff is laid back and PROMPT. I've even sent a "picky" co-worker and she walked away happy. -

I absolutely loved my first experience at The Establishment!
My previous stylist moved out of state almost a year ago and I've been searching for a new stylist ever since... to no avail. When a friend suggested I give The Establishment a try, and the deal was sweetened with a Yelp $10 for $20 special, I couldn't pass it up. I was in desperate need of a haircut after putting it off for nearly 6 months.
Justine could not have done anything better. She (along with everyone on staff) was friendly, kind, professional and a great listener. I had a fabulous experience and I love my new style! I could not recommend this salon or Justine more highly! -

I am quite disappointed with this place.
When I called to get two appointments, for a friend and I, I asked for their most experienced hairdresser. The day of the appointment, the hairdresser looked very young so I asked her age. It turns out, she is 22 and she has been a hairdresser for 3 years!! It's hard to believe that their most experienced hairdresser has only worked for three years. However, when I specifically asked for a ver experienced person, I was quite annoyed by this. I was flexible with the day and time, all I wanted someone experienced.
I am not happy with the haircut either. My bangs look horrible and I can't do anything to control them!! -

I have been a long time patron of the Establishment. I happened upon it when looking for a randomly impulsive day of eye brow wax. I was a girl without a salon and The Establishment could take me with their "Waxing Queen" Annie. She won me over when, waxing my brows for the first time ever, with little instruction and mostly just doing what she thought look right on my face, she did a perfect job.
That was at least 4 years ago. I've been hooked on Annie ever since. She knows my hair and never tries to do something that won't work. There have been only 2 times in the past 4+ years that I haven't been completely happy after leaving the salon. Both times she has squeezed me in, in the next couple days, and listen to what I thought was wrong and promptly correct it no problem.
So funny and so personable I have not even considered going anywhere else. I can't think of anyone I would rather have do my hair for my wedding next spring. I know she'll make it perfectly me.

I love The Establishment, the Aveda products, the staff, the owners and especially Jess. I get a great scalp massage with my shampoo, cute haircut, and perfect highlights. Spending a few hours in the chair there is a little slice of heaven!

So after posting my review, the owner contacted me immediately and apologized. This was honestly such a shock to me because it seems like a lot of people in Milwaukee really don't care about their businesses! He then proceeded to send me a gift certificate to come in and try The Establishment again. I am going to go have my hair highlighted and I am very excited. Hopefully, it is not the same experience. Honestly, I really appreciated the gesture of an apology. It really made my day. I will have to check back in and let you all know how the appointment goes!

I am happy to find a salon that is near my house and found a good hairdresser who likes to talk cats :-) Just kidding about the last part but talking cats is always a bonus for me.
The scene inside is very comfortable with a DIY type interior that is both unique and interesting to look at. Everyone working there seemed really nice and even offered me an umbrella to my car since it was raining! Note: I got 10% off for Checking In on YELP! :) -

I am so happy with my new cut. I read a review talking about Justine's ability to cut Asian hair. I have Asian-esque hair and she did a fab job!
With three aunts that cut hair, this is the first person to give an opinion about what I should do with my hair. She did exactly what I wanted and added some short bangs that topped it off.
The atmosphere is perfect for me. You walk in and are greeted by a friendly person, regardless of what they do there. Sometimes, at other places, it seemed as though you had to have an "in" to fit in. Not here, all are welcome.
I was able to get an appointment on a Saturday morning when I called on a Friday night.
This place is a keeper. -

I've been going to The Establishment for a few years now, and each time it gets better and better. I've had visits with Suzanne, Jessica and Annie (with Suzanne being my primary stylist) for a variety of services- cut, color, brow wax- all done professionally. The vibe inside The Establishment is comfortable, hip and extremely friendly (and CLEAN!!)! I've been to a few different salons in Milwaukee that never made me feel very welcomed, but at The Establishment, I feel like I'm just visiting with friends- friends who make me look like a fabulous Hollywood star upon departure!
If you're looking for a down-to-earth and up-to-date salon with a super rad atmosphere, I highly recommend taking a visit to The Establishment- you will not regret it!! -

I've passed through this place many times when I ride the 15 and was originally leery of this place. First of all, I usually get my haircut in Chicago - I don't feel comfortable going to many American hairdressers since most of them cut my hair really bluntly on the ends (which irritates me to no end) and also because the place was really expensive compared to what I'm used to.
I ended up going there on a less than busy Friday evening for a trim and was greeted by Justine, one of the stylists. I was really surprised when she gave me a neck rub before cutting my hair. Also, she washed my hair and when I specified how I hated blunt ends on my hair, she followed through with this and I ended up having the more natural looking ends I usually get from most Asian hairdressers - I was impressed. Not only that, I found Justine to be super-friendly and very professional.
The other added perks to this place is that you don't get itchy from having hair falling down your shirt. Oh, and the place smells pretty nice and is really clean.
Overall, do I recommend it? So far, yes. Though I've yet to try getting one of those awesome trendy Japanese haircuts I see on Raysysa (http://www.rasysa.com/...) from The Establishment, I'll definitely be going there again for at least a trim. -

I have been a customer at the establishment for several years and was a little terrified that my stylist will be moving to California to open their new location. I was recommended to see one of the new staff members, Jackie. I had my first visit with Jackie a week ago and will definitely be back to see her. Jackie gave a great consultation, did not push me to cut my long hair more than I wanted to - a big plus, and encouraged me to go a bit lighter on my highlights for summer. The highlights she did are fantastic. With my hair being so fine I have had some bad color in the past at other salons and was afraid to have someone new do my hair. Jackie exceeded my expectations. So many people have asked where I had my hair done and say they love the highlights. Knowing her skills, I may get a bit more adventurous next time i see her.
Also got a feather extension, which is staying in much better than the ones I got at another salon a few weeks before.

I had a really great haircut here, using a groupon. although the staff was very unprofessional. I came in not knowing what I wanted, and she did a great job of convincing me to cut off 12 inches of hair and go back to my pixie/bob styled days.
However, I was a bit shocked (since it wasn't REALLY what I had planned) and she was a bit insulting towards me when I asked a few questions about styling and commented that she disagreed when I pointed out a section that looked boyish.
The thing that really irked me, though, was the fact that the other staff were in there with no customers and just insulting staff that were out that day. They were being catty and rude, and talking about things that were wayyy to personal. They also talked about customers as they left. I realize I was the only customer in there towards the end and that I was there for a long time because of the amount of hair that I was getting cut off, but I just don't think I can go back! There's no saying what they said about me when I left.
So great haircut, awful professionalism. -

Ok. First of all, I had my first Brazilian.....not for the feint hearted. BUT I am really glad I had it here. Stacey was AMAZING. She is super nice and really good at what she does. The pain was alleviated by Stacey's skill and conversation. I am really really impressed and would highly recommend her!
The place is nice and in a nice area. The waxing room was impeccably clean. A plus in my book! -

Relatively new to the area with tricky hair, I'm on the hunt for a primary hairdresser. I have short wavy hair, and a LOT of it. It's real easy for a hairdresser to cut my hair in a way that looks like an old lady cut, instead of a funky pixi-esque style. It requires a lot of thinning and careful layering.
The people and the atmosphere at the establishment were right on, and the pre-haircut massage was a nice surprise.
The cut itself is still in debate. I had to push a little too hard to get it shaped correctly, and my stylist didn't seem comfortable thinning as much hair as I usually require. If my hair isn't thinned enough the cut doesn't usually last long. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she admitted to never having short hair herself.
We'll see how it goes. Again, the people were lovely, and she really did try to give me what I liked. I just felt like I had to push too hard. With a good haircut I leave the joint feeling spunky and stylish. This time I left and it just felt like my hair was shorter. -

The girl who cut my hair was a bit lacking in personality and didn't seem to want to be there. Maybe she was having a bad day, don't know, so won't name any names. I was the only customer so the other hairdresser that wasn't doing anything just stood there staring at me from the side. You can say she was just watching the other girl cut my hair but it was highly uncomfortable. There was a guy at the desk who was pretty friendly but didn't say much either.
The cut I was given was average. It wasn't bad but given the personalities there, I'd rather get an average haircut elsewhere. -

I feel like I'm cheating on my hair guy in miami by writing this review, but that being said, I came here reluctantly. It had been one year since my last haircut as I felt I couldn't trust my hair with anyone else. But it had gotten to that point where those splint ends needed to be removed and those bangs needed to be redone. After reading great reviews on yelp, I set up an appointment online with one of the junior stylists. She was super friendly and put my hair anxiety at ease. Long story short, the cut was exactly what I had wanted and I left feeling fabulous. Probably won't waiting for the one year mark again before I go back.

I love The Establishment! When friends ask me, "Where do you get your hair done?" I gladly pronounce, "At The Establishment by Annie". It literally took me years upon years to find someone who really knew how to cut my hair right and then I found Annie. She's the best and worth the money for sure. I have absolute trust in her. I go in, she asks "What are we doing today?", and I tell her "I don't care, whatever you want, just keep my bangs a little longer and the rest is up to you." I've never once been unhappy with results in all the years I've been going there now. The staff is awesome, the space is great, the atmosphere is always laid-back and inviting. I tell my friends, my family, my coworkers, "Go to The Establishment, you won't regret it!" And they never do. Awesome work you guys! I love you to pieces!

I was visiting Milwaukee from out of town and stopped by The Establishment to get feather extensions while I was on vacation. Even though they prefer you make an appointment, they graciously accepted me as a walk-in and were friendly, helpful, and did great work! Too bad it's so far away from home, or I'd go there all the time!

For hair, I'll travel far and wide to find a good stylist and I must say, I've found "THE ONE." It's been a long time since I've actually gotten what I want from a hairstylist. Using a groupon coupon, I made an appointment with Molly.
Now I'm always wary of trying out new stylists because I am very specific in what I want. Molly took away my fear of having my hair butchered. She's excellent because she listens and gives an honest opinion. She wasn't pushy about selling me products. I really admire her courteousness and professionalism.
I love my haircut even though to the rest of those who know me, it's my 'old' hairstyle. I am so glad I am back to normal!
Now don't too many of you go there cause I will fight you for a hair appointment. -

Great location, good vibe, a little on the small/homey side.
Best part about my experience was that the stylist listened to my non-descript explanations of what I "wanted". I was a little concerned after cut #1, but I'm actually quite impressed with how my hair cut has grown out and I just made another appointment! -

I have been to the establishment two times both for a brazilian. My first appointment was with annie. She was great, such perfectionist, professional. She made the experience as pain free as she could. My second appointment was with Stacy. She was pleasant though the normal hour appointment was rushed and she crammed it into 30mins. The wax was so hot it left me with burns. I was now impressed with the end result, if i wanted a half done job I would have went to a beauty school.
I don't have plans to go back but I would definitely recommend Annie to anyone. -

I have struggled for *years* to find a salon that has both great customer service and does a good job on my long, thick hair.
I was recommended by a friend and I am SO glad I took her advice.
When I came in, I was given a cup of tea (Rishi, even. They had my heart right there.) and enjoyed their great musical taste while I waited for my appointment time.
Carly did an amazing job on my hair, was gentle on my tender scalp, and I walked away with the best haircut of my life. I will never go anywhere else.

Had my first visit today!! Highly recommend Justine!! Very happy that the whole salon ONLY uses Aveda products (animal/cruelty free). I wanted to post on the June issue of the web page but couldn't figure out how to do that. I was perplexed that the web page is promoting feather extentions which are not cruelty free (the only legal feathers come from the slaughter industry). So I would be interested why the owners feel strongly about cruelty free hair products, yet utilize feathers... For that discrepancy I would give this salon a LOWER rating, but have decided to give 5 stars based on my cut, color, and experience with Justine. She's THE BEST!!! 5 STARS to her!!

This place gets four stars because Jessica does an excellent job cutting my hair. I have fine, thin hair and it always needs some serious work. Also, although I only had my second cut there recently, the first one grew out really really well. There are two negatives that makes me NOT give this place 5 stars: 1) Jessica comes across very awkward socially. That becomes an issue because she makes ME feel uncomfortable. I know not all stylists need to be conversational geniuses, but she is just SO awkward; and 2) she never tells me HOW to do my hair. As well as being cursed with bad hair, I have no real idea how to do it. My last stylist (David at Sine Qua Non in Chicago...how I miss him) did an amazing job on my hair AND taught me how to do it step-by-step. I need that and Jessica totally doesn't do it. Next time, I'm going to ask her and and if that doesn't work, I'm going to have to find a new stylist closer to home, great hair cut or not. I need hair help!!

As a guy, it usually doesn't matter to me where I get my haircut. I've gone to countless interchangeable places over the years. But the Establishment isn't like all the others. The people there are fun, personable, real. They've even done a salon photo shoot with my t-shirt website, and they play awesome music while you're getting your haircut. Last but not least, I really like my haircuts. (Thanks Shannon.) I'm definitely a loyal customer.

I bought a groupon for a facial and had an amazing time here!! They are open 7 days a week and it was easy to get an appointment. Stacey was amazing and gave me an amazing facial. I did not feel rushed at all even though I was her last appt of the day. Also when checking out the man who was at the desk was very nice and told me about another upcoming Groupon. What a great place. With the friendly staff and great hours, I will try them for a cut/ color. What a great place make sure to take a break and get a relaxing facial!!!

For a haircut, see Annie - she is fantastic! The salon itslef is very small, cozy, and unpretentious. They use Aveda products and have a very funky vibe.
