8 reviews for The Establishment
Several years ago, I lived in Shorewood and would always admire the Establishment from afar. From the Christmas Story's "Leg Lamp" they put in their window during the holidays, to the catchy phrases on their outside sandwich board, I wanted to be a part of the coolness that was the Establishment.
I finally decided to give them a try. I had my first appointment with Suzanne and immediately fell in love with her skills. Having extremely thick wavy hair, it's difficult for me to find someone that can properly tame my crazy mane. When Suzanne was on a leave, I had Carly taking care of my hair and she was amazing as well!
I turned my friend on to the Establishment and she sees Annie, who rocks not only with hair, but with waxing as well.
The entire staff is awesome and like a little family. Everyone seems to know my name too!
I have struggled for *years* to find a salon that has both great customer service and does a good job on my long, thick hair.
I was recommended by a friend and I am SO glad I took her advice.
When I came in, I was given a cup of tea (Rishi, even. They had my heart right there.) and enjoyed their great musical taste while I waited for my appointment time.
Carly did an amazing job on my hair, was gentle on my tender scalp, and I walked away with the best haircut of my life. I will never go anywhere else.
Happy customer for life :D
The Establishment is one of those rare gems in Milwaukee that never disappoints, like a cup of Alterra coffee or a $10 show at Turner Hall. Selfishly, I don't want too many people to know about it, but it really stands out and deserves a rave review so I guess I'll do my part.
I've been going to Annie for color, cuts and waxing for several years now. She does a phenomenal job every time, and we are like old friends. Suzanne did my hair once, too, when Annie wasn't available and didn't miss a beat. In other words, she does excellent work too!
Even if this salon didn't do hair, I'd probably go there just to hang out. Howie rotates good tunes and always make you feel right at home. One of my neighborhood favorites.
The ladies deserve to know--ANNIE IS THE BEST WAXER IN TOWN!!
Previously I went to Neroli, which is entirely pretentious, brisk, and impersonal. The Establishment is the opposite--so fun and upbeat, and funky! Yet they also use Aveda products so no loss there.
I love the Establishment, and even though I live downtown will continue to frequent.
Good prices too--I'm in love.
This place is fantastic. I am quite picky about my hair and was hesitant to try to a new place, especially since I wanted to go from very long hair to short but The Establishment blew my away. The whole staff was very friendly and welcoming, from the man answering the phones, who patiently helped me with directions when I got lost on the way, to my hairstylist, Annie, who was extremely friendly and talented and really cared about me as a client. She gave my a great haircut I get a ton of compliments on. They use only Aveda products and have a low-key, unpretentious milieu. I will definitely return.
As a guy, it usually doesn't matter to me where I get my haircut. I've gone to countless interchangeable places over the years. But the Establishment isn't like all the others. The people there are fun, personable, real. They've even done a salon photo shoot with my t-shirt website, and they play awesome music while you're getting your haircut. Last but not least, I really like my haircuts. (Thanks Shannon.) I'm definitely a loyal customer.
I went to The Establishment today after my stylist of several years left Beauty (I miss you, Heather!). The receptionist was bright and friendly when I called, and he scheduled me for an appointment with Shannon.
Shannon is totally adorable and talented (and in a band!). She made sure I *loved* my haircut before I left and had bunches of ideas for new low-maintenance looks. It seemed like she genuinely cared about how I looked, which was really nice. She was easy to talk to and very friendly. Also, she likes The Hold Steady. I always geek out a little -- okay, more than a little -- when I meet someone who likes my boys. I'm totally putting Shannon on the guest list the next time they come to town.
The Establishment is tiny, so you might miss it if you're just cruising down Oakland. Parking around there is INSANE right now because of the seemingly interminable construction, but I found a spot on Bartlett.
Bonus points for the soundtrack of Andrew Bird and Lily Allen. My next appointment is in August. A+, super-rad, awesome.
For a haircut, see Annie - she is fantastic! The salon itslef is very small, cozy, and unpretentious. They use Aveda products and have a very funky vibe.
