I love this gym. It is the answer to the cons which I've noticed in other gyms. Here is why:
- SIZE - Energy club is small; not that it lacks anything, but it is not a warehouse filled haphazardly with fitness machines. It's small enough that you will meet people and feel like you are really a part of the gym.
-LIFESTYLE - From the time you enter the gym, you feel as though this gym can easily fit into your lifestyle, from the class schedules to the happy hours which are set up for members. The philosophy of the gym is that the work outs which you do are for a life time. The people which you see, you will get to know. It is not a gym for people who work out for 2 months out of the year and stop using their membership all together.
- STAFF- Michelle, who signed me up for the gym is the face to know, and she always greets everyone who comes in. Due to the size of the gym and the mission, they staff at the gym makes it feel like another home for you.
-Extra Gym Perks - include Happy Hours, Parent's night, wine tastings, Rock/wall climbing classes, fitness work shops, running shoe fittings.
- PERSONAL TRAINING - GREAT EXPERIENCE. I used my two free personal training sessions when I first joined and loved it. Unfortunately, I could not afford the package that I wanted at the time, but I found it extremely helpful. My trainer's name is KENNY, and at the first session, we discussed my goals, meal plan, measurements, exercises to get there, and how to properly warm up and control my pulse rate. He was not pushy at all, and really taught me skills which have been helpful to me.
-CLASSES - Instructors are great. There is a main room, Yoga room, and Spin room. The classes are challenging - They will make you sweat. As mentioned above, you tend to see the same faces in the classes and because most members stay at the gym and continue working on there, there is not huge turnover and the veterans really make you feel welcome and help you.
- LOCKER ROOMS - have everything you need from shampoo, soap, lotion, mouth wash, etc.
Overall, this has been my favorite gym. It is a motivating environment which I want to go to and makes me feel like working out.
Having said all of that, it is pricier than some, but if you commit to working out the classes are great and you will most likely make some new friends there as well. -

Clean, friendly, solid equipment, great classes, awesome staff who either knows you by name or will soon after you join...not the pumped up meat market lik other gyms in the area (I've been a member of Golds, Sport and Health, & Xsport) I def like this gym over the others...everyone coming here is pretty much in the neighborhood or works close by .
I recommend it for folks looking for a gym in the Shirlington/Arlington areas. -

I discovered this two-story gym because of a Living Social deal, and I am glad I did. The Yoga classes are absolutely amazing, and are offered for all levels. Further, the gym is clean, with showers, sundires, and auto-lock lockers, and unintimidating. Everyone is nice and friendly, and it is easy to integrate yourself into the atmosphere, especially because they have social events every so often, inlcuding wine tastings. Classes are offered all throughout the day and evening; the 7:30pm Yoga classes are perfect for anyone who works long hours and needs to unwind.
There is a variety of equipment offered, and though I've heard some guys complain about the selection on weights, all in all this is a great place to work out and refresh. -

I've been a member at The Energy Club since May of 2008 and am very pleased. It is on the pricey side, but it's worth it to have a very clean, well-run gym with lots of well-maintained equipment and classes with knowledgeable instructors. They do have neighborhood discounts, and regularly send out promotions for reduced or waived enrollment fees.
I tend to go at off-peak hours, but even when it's busier in the evenings I do not have to wait for machines or treadmills. There are always plenty of trainers on hand if you have questions, and the receptionists are friendly and know me by name.
The locker room (the women's at least) is very, very clean with towel service and other high-end perks like complimentary razors and shower products. They even have hair dryers with diffusers, which I've never seen at the gym. -

I've been a member of the Energy Club since March 2008. For the first year, I was incredibly happy with the all of the extras that other gyms don't have: towel service, clean and inviting locker areas, helpful staff, and no crowding during peak times.
However, in the past six months, the gym has gone under new management, and the classes have suffered as a consequence. I used to attend 3 yoga classes a week, but now I'm looking for other options. They've changed the schedule without notifying members, and can't seem to keep instructors.
I'm going to continue my membership with Energy for a few more months, hoping that things will settle down. If you're joining for the classes, you may be disappointed. Otherwise, if you're just looking to get your sweat on, this is the place to be. -

What happy hour? After work, you can find me in da (energy) club!
I'm rating Energy Club five stars because it's the first time in the 12+ years I've belonged to a gym where I actually look forward to going (and they say getting there is half the battle). The Energy Club is seriously the new Happy Hour.
I used to make so much fun of people that had 'gym friends' but this club makes fitness a social event and that makes the dreaded 'going to the gym' so much easier. You make friends here. The staff is friendly, they recruit friendly members and the trainers and instructors are great (and friendly).
You'll find a variety of classes and on any given weeknight you're able to take a class that is sure to burn and/or tone. If you prefer cardio equipment, they have a lot of that and most come with a TV attached, which, let me tell you, makes an hour on the treadmill or elliptical fly (just come in during a law and order marathon and you won't want to leave).
They have an indoor rock climbing wall (35 feet tall) and reformer pilates equipment (must be certified or accompanied by a trainer to use).
The bathrooms are spa-like, you'll find clean towels in multiple places and there is sanitizing product and equipment wipes located throughout.
The gym offers monthly social perks like wine tastings and 'parents night out.'
This isn't a gym for the lazy. Everyone here is motivated and supportive of each other's fitness goals. I've loved being a member here. -

I joined The Energy Club 3 years ago and was 40lbs heavier at the time. Since I have joined, I lost the weight and kept it off thanks to the helpful staff and great equipment. There is always free equipment and the facilities are kept incredibly clean.
In addition to this, the gym is a great place to meet other great people and hang out at the happy hours and wine tastings.
I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to get in shape or is just looking for a place to workout. -

I've been a member here for a few months now and really love this place!
I don't feel intimidated when I'm in the weight area, it never feels crowded and the environment is filled with energy. I see a lot of other members working with trainers (I used the one free pass and really liked the advice the trainer gave).
I've heard horror stories about some of my friends' gyms and I'm lucky that I only have good things to say about this place.
The only downside it the cost...but the convenient location and environment are worth it for me. -

I checked out this place a few months ago. The pros are that they have a good bit to offer, aren't too busy, and have great amenities. The cons is the cost, it's very expensive for a small amount of space. I think it's something like $70 a month. Go to Xsport Fitness for at least half the cost per month and 5 times the space and equipment.
I actually acted new a couple months ago and got a free workout here. I snagged a free razor too! -

This gym has everything you really could want in a basic gym. It's not crowded, the machines have tv's on them, they have a good selection of machines and weights, and it's clean. But, I'm not renewing my membership. It is way too expensive and, when I shared that with the manager, she responded, very haughtily, that they can charge $79 a month because they are a 'boutique gym'. Like I said, good basic gym, but it is NOT a boutique gym. I would expect more unique classes (the classes and schedule here are crap), a steam room (they only have a sauna), and some added perks and services for that price. Golds has everything Energy does but Energy gives you a towel. Xport has more than both at a lower price. She used the reasoning that they have showers, and your daily essentials like mouthwash, hairdryers, deodorant, and disposable razors for you to use. Those 'perks' aren't worth the price. I don't shower there to begin with. Sure they have a rock climbing wall but I've never even seen anyone near it much less using it.

The Energy Club maintains a focus on a fun neighborhood atmosphere. The staff is super friendly, during my first two visits, I met the owner, the manager, the marketing director, and several trainers. Membership is all inclusive. (Seriously towels, shampoo, shaving cream, razors, Q-tips, built-in locks on the lockers, everything) They also have a great mix of hi-tech cardio machines, the latest-greatest aerobic classes, and weight training equipment. One of the coolest features though is that they partner with other local businesses like Robeks and The Curious Grape for frequent food tastings and happy hours. How can you beat a gym with free alcohol? All that, plus a 30 foot climbing wall, come together to form a really unique gym that keeps you engaged and never bored. They also have a little mascot dog named Lincoln.

I joined the Energy Club back in September, and I couldn't be happier. Having just moved California, where gyms are plentiful, I have to say, this one is a cut above anything I experienced out West. The space is airy and well-lit, I have never had to wait for any machine, and the fringe benefits are great. The locker rooms are top-notch with free towels, shampoo, conditioner, Q-tips, etc. The peak hours are generally M-W, 6-8pm, but it is NOTHING compared to the shenanigans I endured in San Diego. Missing are the long waits, the continuously broken equipment, and the smell of hot and cold feet. Energy Club is clean, friendly, and has great ammenities (including a social aspect for those interested). Highly recommended.

Professionally run club with great equipment, good trainers, clean locker rooms and millions of towels always available to mop up the sweat. Definitely a first rate gym - and you can head out to the Shirlington strip to enjoy a cool one after pushing the limit!

Very Expensive for what you get: small, crowded and messy.
I've been a member of Energy Fitness for 3-4 years. It's going downhill. The area that it serves is growing, but the gym is not. It's small (for the number of people that go there) and always CROWDED. If all you want is a bike or a treadmill, this won't bother you. But if you spend 3-4 days at a gym and do strength training, expect to be frustrated here. The place is always a mess. In a small gym, it's important the staff keeps the place clean and returns equipment. Not here. Magazines, towels, water bottles all sit on the equipment. Which you might think someone's holding that equipment. They're not, the staff just isn't keeping the place clean. Billing issues. At least three separate occasions I've had a problem. The most recent time they billed 2 of my cards for the same month and couldn't get it right after 3 visits and 4 phone calls (not exaggerating). All this might be expected at Golds Gym or Bally's. But this place is $80/month for month-to-month. It seems like an ok place until you realize how hard you have to work to get parking, and then a piece of equipment once you're inside. $80 starts to seem like a lot of money for a very average gym. -

The Energy Club is amazing! It's what a gym should be. Since people have already covered the basics, let me describe why this place is better than going to Ballys Total Hell/other chains.
1) The let me go month to month for the same rate as WSC and didn't pressure me into anything. They just offered the information, take or leave it...easy. No slick talking or patronizing BS
2) In classes the instructors were very well prepared and seemed to know the clients really well. They always introduced themselves to newcomers and made sure to find out about preexisting health conditions. Not to mention the classes were fun...
3) During peak hours, you don't really need to wait for and everyone seems to be good about wiping down equipment, since wipes are everywhere in the gym (no spray bottles).
4) There's a good mix of people, young and old, which makes it a comfortable environment that's really encouraging....not a fashion show or scene.
Overall I've been really impressed, and love the attention to detail at the gym. I'm pretty cheap when it comes to spending on gyms, but the price to service ratio is really good here, and it's totally worth it. -

I just joined Energy a few weeks ago and am so glad I did. I had been a Gold's member for several years, but I am one of those people who just won't go to the gym if I can't walk/run there, so when I moved to South Arlington I checked out Energy and the new XSport on King Street. Energy was far and away more a more welcoming gym environment. Everyone from the sales manager to the desk receptionists to the trainers has been nothing but upbeat and friendly whenever I'm there (compared to the clique-y staff at some gyms), and the facility is clean, thoughtfully laid out, and well taken care of (nobody slams weights around here, and there are towels and sanitary wipes all over the place). I've yet to find the gym too crowded to grab a cardio machine or space to lift free weights, and I like that the equipment reserved only for training sessions at some gyms (including kettle bells, BOSU balls, and resistance bands) are freely available here. Unlike at Gold's, I actually had my complimentary initial intro/personal training session (the day after I joined!), and I took advantage of their summer specials to purchase a package of personal training sessions (also cheaper than Gold's). I'm training with David, and it is intense - I haven't been this sore in a long time, but it's a good, motivational kind of pain :)
The only downsides I've encountered so far have to do with the group classes - the "Energy Yoga" class I took yesterday (Monday) evening needed to be in a bigger room, and on Sunday I showed up excited for their (only) scheduled Zumba class, only to find out it's no longer being offered. Also, they don't offer a corporate discount for my company, like Gold's did, so it is pricier than some of the other local options. But those are pretty minor complaints, and so far I'm very happy with my decision to join the Energy Club. -

Pricey but who gives a damn. Really we spend so much on food we need to spend just as much to work it off.
I have been a memeber in total of 6 months and I have to say that this gym is so awesome. the people are nice there and the facilities are well maintained. What I enjoy is the variety of classes here. They could use some more Zumba classes in the week in the afternoons or on the weekends but the instructor seemed bored so once I get fit and do the Zumba cert I will defintely step up to hype people up!
The trainers are really great too. Kenny is my trainer and he is nice but he will bust your ass. I thought basic training was tough but this is insane...could be becasue I am out odf hsape and getting there is not as easy as it used to be when you are young. I like that they have separate rooms for cycling and aerobics and yoga. the locker room facilities are really great you don't have to bring a lock the lockers have electronic locks on them and they have an arrangement of toiletries available if you forgot it at home. the water pressure in the shower is phenominal and they have a sauna which I will have to use. Funny thing is that the bathrooms are handicap friendly and there is a shower stall as well but they are on the bottom floor and I don't see an elevator. i have to find out about that so for handicap accessible...IDK. I used to see people on the rock wall a while back but not so much anymore. they make you take a certification class before hand which is good. I will have to do that. Come and do Body Pump and Jam here! The instructors are great!
I have never been to the social hour thingies but they sound like good fun. -

"I arrived at 9:50 for my 10:00 appointment with Glenn for my first experience with kettle bells. The ladies at the desk were very personable and accomodating. Glenn gave me a tour of the entire facility before beginning the training session. It is a very nice facility, bright and clean. Before we began, he explained the entire history of kettle bells which was very interesting. He also ran through a few exercises himself to show me how it is done and also what an art it can be. He is a good teacher and I can see how he could make it a lot of fun. On my way out, he introduced me to Rich, the owner. Rich was also very hospitable, and showed sincere interest in my business as well. Definitely give The Energy Club and the kettle bells a try!"

I have been a member of the Energy Club for nearly two years, and have always really enjoyed it. I've been a member of many other gyms in the DC/NOVA area and this one is cleaner, friendlier, and more well-run than most.
I have never been more impressed than I was this past week. I live within walking distance of the club, and nothing makes me happier on a snowy day than to fight my cabin fever at the gym. The folks at the Energy Club did everything they could to keep the gym open for us locals during the blizzard, and were happy and smiling the whole time. They even opened their doors (for free!) to a friend of mine who was not a member but wanted to join me in my winter snow workout.
It sounds cliche, but these guys feel like family after a while. They listen to suggestions (and they actually DO something about it!). They genuinely want to know how to make the gym better.
You guys make 'getting in shape' that much easier! -

This is a great gym. It by far has the friendliest and most helpful staff than most gyms in the areas. The staff is always willing to help and the entire gym is extremely clean. Signing my member ship was very pleasant and I did not feel any pressure like some places. I would recommend thisplace to anyone looking to join a great gym!!

I've been a member for almost a year and am very pleased with this gym. I love the classes best of all- BodyJam, BodyPump, zumba, etc. The instructors are fantastic. The staff is very competent and friendly. Two complaints- their evening hours are pretty limited, especially for Friday and weekend nights (9pm and 7:30pm respectively), and they don't do enough to encourage recycling. I see water bottles in the trash cans all the time (they need to have recycling containers in the locker rooms and class rooms- I already made this suggestion, but they haven't acted on it yet). They have babysitting for kids, but it's too pricey for me to use with 2 children. But their service is great- email updates, special events, and very clean. I'd recommend to others.
