i didn't want to ruin the 69 reviews for this BUT,
Mary Spear, amazing hair artist.
She's been cutting my hair for a while now, at least a year now I think and I've left satisfied each time.
I went from long hair being parted from the side w/layers, to really long hair with long blunt bangs skimming my eyebrows, to shaggy layered hair with side bangs, then it grew out a lot and was just really really long, and then SNIP! cut off about 13 inches, donated my hair to locks of love and had an asymmetric cut.
and then I got asymmetrical bangs with an even more dramatically asymmetrical cut and of course, 3 steps on the left side of my head.
i LOVE it.
my hair grows quickly so I'm looking forward to seeing her again soon!

Charlene gave me the best haircut and color that I have ever had in my entire life!  I am a first time customer and I couldn't be happier with the results.

I am going to be Coraline (from the movie) this year for Halloween, and so I wanted to color my hair partially blue and get it cut in a cute bob like the main character in the film.

I brought in some pictures of the character and showed them to Charlene.  Charlene listened attentively, focused, and gave her best effort to her work.  She colored most of my hair a luscious dark brown and the rest of it a striking shade of blue.  And she cut my hair in a sleek and elegant bob that I absolutely love.

She surpassed all of my expectations.  My hair looks so awesome and amazing I almost feel like I could cry (tears of joy, of course)!

I just dropped in and was lucky enough to get Charly. I've never had bangs so I was quite nervous but she talked me through all the factors that I needed to consider before proceeding. I'd been envisioning a Keria Knightingly bang, with longer layers to the cheekbones and just by describing it to her, Charly nailed it. Charly is an excellent stylist and very professional, I'd absolutely recommend her for hair styling!

Yay, bangs!

I'd been putting off getting my hair cut but finally the urge to try The Electric Chair won me over.

The appointment was for 9:30 AM which might be earlier than most people get their hair done, but I enjoy the tranquility of going earlier in the day.

Kathy did a great job on my hair, she was very professional, very quick, and my hair feels fem again: D

Kathy made sure that the excessive thickness of my hair was taken care of with layers of varying lengths and where I've watched other stylists struggle to brush and dry my hair, Kathy made it look effortless.

Honestly, I don't want to go anywhere else ever again.

Best hair salon in San Diego hands down.  Jen is the absolute best EVER.  Super friendly, fun, funky, talented stylists.  Great atmosphere, comfy, high quality products.

I will never go anywhere else.  Jen and Mary are both AWESOME!

Hey Buffy, I'm taking credit for this one.

A coworker recommended this place to me about a year ago and it has been fabulous. I have worked in salons so I'm picky when it comes to stylists and customer service and I get both there. I also used to be an Aveda loyalist so it took a lot to sway me away from that.

Amee RULES! Love her to death. She hasn't given me a bad haircut yet...she hasn't even given me one that I didn't totally love. Plus she puts up with me yammering on and on about my dog :) I had someone else cut my hair once and it came out good, but I ended up going back to Amee to re-layer it because no one does it like she does.

The decor rocks, they use TIGI products, and I always come out looking and feeling great.

If I could give 6 stars, I would. Really the only thing is sometimes parking is hard on nice days/when there is some event going on in OB, but thats the beach for ya!

I am a sucker for any place with voodoo decor.

But in all seriousness, this salon is one the last places around where you can get a cut for under $45.  I have been seeing Aimee for maybe 8 months and every cut is great - she has an eye for style.  I've recommended her to others and I've noticed she always cuts hair for the client - mending the cut to match the clients own personal style.  She also does free bang trims!

An extra perk is the excellent music and videos.  Overall a kickass place!

Paul, the nice owner personally apologized to me for the service I last had at The Electric Chair.

We arranged an appointment to "fix" my hair but after talking with others I've decided to let it be and see how it evolves over the next few weeks.

Ok, so first off im a dude. It takes alot to bypass your Y chromosomes natural instincts and go into a salon, but man did i make the right choice choosing the electric chair. I got Mary and she was awesome, she was very helpful and skilled, but the part i liked best is she went out of her way not to make it awkward and actually tried to converse with me. The place itself was cool too there's all this art and paintings of dead musicians and stuff and it really makes the atmosphere. i walked out satisfied and happy with the job she did, well worth the 30$, and i dont think ill ever go anywhere else. So thanks Mary, and thanks electric chair :)

I've been here twice and have been completely pleased with my hair both times. The hair dressers are awesome, and there's a lot of cool art to look at... in fact maybe too much art. Even the toilet seat is covered in art.

The prices are also great considering the quality. I'm not going anywhere else to get my hair done while I'm in SD.

Never Again.

I was introduced to this place by a friend.  She liked the place because it was in OB, and because of the art on the wall.  Although I thought her haircut and color was cute, and waiting till I traveled back home to visit my family and stylist was not going to happen anytime soon.  So I went.  I should have known better than to take advice about hair salons from my friend who is very nonchalant about their hair.

The first time I went I was cutting my mid back length hair to a bob, the girl was really cool, and only wanted to cut it midway because she wasn't sure I would like a bob, but then told me that if I wanted to go all the way to call and set another appt.  After sleeping on it, I did want to go all the way, so I made an appt and got cut.  The girl wasn't as nice when I came back, I don't know what was up with that, maybe just busy, but just went through it and left.

The last time I went there was Dec 08, right before christmas.  Unfortunately I couldn't get in with my normal stylist Sherron at HDOF, so I called EC and they booked me in for a color.  I was going red from a brown.  The girl was nice, we didn't have a lot to talk about, and I am ok with sitting in silence.  So after the full foil weave of highlights and the toner, I am waiting patiently for the color time, I notice she missed almost a 1/2 inch of roots on the front of my hairline (important!) and I am dapping dye into my hair when she walked away (I already had pointed a mistake out to her, I didn't want to push it).

Once she started flat ironing my hair, ugh, it was not at all what I wanted, not even close, the red wasn't even noticeable, and the toner didn't set and blonde pieces were still highly visible.  She is about 2/3's of the way done and asks what I think and I say, very nicely, that I don't like it.  This is when it gets bad.  This "Professional" pulls the flat iron back and snaps it closed in her hands and rudely (and with attitude) asks "What is it that you don't like" I told her what I mentioned above and she gets even more defensive and starts debating with me about what I wanted my color to be and then she says "well I don't have anymore toner left I used the last I had on you, so you will have to book another appointed for me to fix it until I can order more, but I will only charge you $100 instead of the $150 since you don't like it"

Then she walks away.  We are in the area in the back by the sinks, so I wasn't sure what was going on, and I took my drape off, was grateful it was nighttime and my 1/3 frizzy hair was not noticeable and walked to the front, where I could tell she was talking shit because the other 3 stylists there gave me the eye when I went to pay.  I had to book an appointment for the re-toner, but called the next day and canceled.

I will never go to that salon again and I never recommend them to friends.  I am sure there are more grown up stylists there, but that one ruined it for me.

My review is really late, but I always forgot to add it here.

*Update*
I posted this yesterday and almost immediately I had a message from the owner asking me more details about the date I went and who the stylist was (since I did not remember her name).  After a few messages back and forth we found out who it was and he has extended an invitation to set me up with one of his other great stylists and some product.  I really appreciate that, and although my experience with her was not great, I said before that he probably has other great stylists, and other yelpers have experienced them.  Thanks so much to the owner Paul for being so customer oriented, so I added a few stars.

After trying to decide for a few months (ya, I was overdue for a hair cut) I kept periodically looking for salons on http://yelp.com but I was overwhelmed with all the places with good ratings and stellar reviews. I even bookmarked a few but I was undecided. On a whim I decided that cutting off my own split ends was not gonna cut it anymore so, I was set to find a place.

I had seen reviews for The Electric Chair and the place seemed very cute but I wasn't decided. It wasn't until I drunkenly passed it, whilst bar hopping in OB later that night that I thought, "Ah, what the hell....I will just come here."

And so I did. I actually remembered enough the next day to call and make an appointment. It was really easy too. I just called and after few seconds of talking with a girl, I had an appointment in an hour and a half...wam, bam, thank you ma'am!

The place itself is really cool, colorful and funky. They have interesting art pieces on display from local and non-local artists. I liked the placed so much that I snapped a few black & white pictures with my manual 35mm camera when I was waiting. I was really happy they turned out really cool when I developed them.

Anyway, I didn't know who the hairdressers were so I crossed my fingers and left it to fate. I ended up being paired with Nikki (really cute girl with blue chunks in her black hair) who was really nice and easy to talk to. She helped me figure out what I should get and I was open to whatever she suggested.

I ended up really satisfied with it...I will definitely be back to see Nikki. She finally ended my string of bad luck with hair dressers...hence, my less than enthusiastic long winded search. Yay Nikki!

I've been getting my hair done by Nikki for at least a year.  She's awesome.  I've never had so many compliments on my hair until she started cutting my hair.  Since then she has also cut my teen daughter's hair and my 6 year old son last time we were there.

My son has a crush on her and has been asking me when his next haircut is, not that this matters to the review, it's just cute.

On top of getting a great haircut at a reasonable price ($40) this place is just cool.  The art, the videos, and I personally love visiting OB.  Me getting a haircut has become an event in my home.  As for parking, a few doors down is pay parking that is cheap and you don't have to be driving around looking for free parking.  I'd rather just pay the $3 and park.

I'm always really picky about my hair - I don't blow dry it, or style it, or really spend more time on it than it takes to brush. So I need a hair cut that looks nice without much work....super low maintenance.

I go to Lisa and she is great! She always listens to what I have to say and then actually cuts my hair how I ask! Also, with the bangs she cuts a little bit at a time so you can say "more, more, more, stop!" She is funny and fun to joke with. She is usually pretty busy, so if you want to get in with her call about a week or more ahead I think.

The atmosphere is very cool. Art on the walls. Great music and videos playing on the TVs.... even some Talking Heads!

Wahhh... I came here for a cut the day before my first company Holiday Party. Sadly, I ended up with I think the worst stylist they had. I've been wearing my hair up in a bun and with a headband for the past 2 months.

The salon itself is cool. It doesn't have the posh "I'm better than you" feel when you walk in. There are paintings by local artists hung up on the wall and I had a good experience with the front desk and was able to easily make an appointment.

I always hate myself when I pay 12 bucks for a haircut at Supercuts. Not only do they do a shitty/thoughtless job, I just feel dirty after they finish. This is not the case at the Electric Chair. This place is pretty much the opposite of Supercuts and it has everything you could ever want from a haircut establishment (I refuse to say "salon").  It is decorated with unique art from local artists and it has an eclectic group of stylists that cater to your every whim.

Want a mohawk? Welcome to OB, sucka; they'll do it and they'll do it with panache. I've had three different stylists since I started coming to the Electric Chair. Each one had decent conversational skills and a different take on the style of hair that I wanted. It's kind of like that game Password where one person says the word "cock" and the final person might come up with something like "Cosby". Each stylist had their own  idea of what was going to happen with my dome and they required little input from me. As a heterosexual male,  that was completely awesome because I seldom like to talk about my hair.

So pony up the dough and put it down on a good haircut at the Electric Chair. I feel better when I do.

I've been getting my hair done at the Electric Chair for a year now and can't imagine going any where else. Jen has transformed my hair from being too thick and heavy to lightweight and chic. She always understands what I'm envisioning for my hair and is not only able to translate it, but adds her expertise to my vision as well so that it comes out perfect every time.

This place is the best. I love the tool chest salon stations and its a great excuse to go to Ocean Beach! I get my hair cut by Amanda. Amanda is very cool and she has given me some of the best cut & styles for just $40 I've ever had in my life. I've paid upwards of $100 to get my hair cut, and she can hold her own with the best and she's only 24. She has a great career ahead of her.

I told a friend to go there, and she told them her story about how we were poor workers for a poor nonprofit, but needed to look good cuz we had to go to Aspen where the rich and famous have second or third homes. They told her, you don't need your hair cut, go home, you have such lovely naturally curly hair!

What place but the coolest place on earth would tell you to go home, you don't need your hair cut!

Amy with the red hair (now) does my hair. I have been to her twice, for a trim and to touch up my roots... I am a blond naturally but my roots always look dark and dirty. She cut my bangs AMAZINGLY. I am in love. I haven't changed my hair in years. Go see Amy. Yes, the salon is covered in cool art and has the "alternative thing" going on, but it is unpretentious. They are open 7 days a week which is very convenient. Not sure when Amy works though.

Oh yea, there's a noise in there that can be irritating... it's the electric chair that is displayed above the receptionist's desk.

I've finally found a hair salon that I'll be going back to!

I decided to do my dramatic long to short cut again which means I need to go to an expensive salon. I called in the morning to set up an appointment for me and my friend who also wanted a long to short transition. I got one at 11am. Parking was no problem (Tuesday).

I walked in and I immediately fell in love with the funky artsy interior. (The owner is all about exhibiting self-taught local artists!) This is what i like - not some sterile generic foofy place that makes me feel like an inadequate woman.

Amanda was my hairstylist. By coincidence she just chopped off her long hair the night before and shocked her coworkers. Because of that, we were on exactly the same page about my hair. I always have vague ideas about my haircut because I never look like any models or celebrity. I'm happy Amanda helped me choose what type of cut is best for my lifestyle.

She was meticulous and was opened to my concerns. We were both bitching about girls who get the same homogenous haircut - it's just hair - it'd grow back! I think she appreciates it when her customers trusts her artistic side because her attitude changed torwards the end when she realized how I am.

My favorite part about this experience is that she did NOT try to sell me any product whatsoever!

If you're up for a down-to-earth funky hair salon w/ character - this is the place for you!

Finally.  A stylist who dared to go beyond my chronic need to never do anything with my hair besides 'cut and layer.'  Congratulations, Stylist, you cut that caliber.  Given, by the end of the 1.5 hour session I knew about the last 3 guys she dated, one who bought her a very nice Tiffany's bracelet but apparently wanted her to behave more like a pet than a person...but my hair never looked more fabulous.

This place was the first place I have been to in 5 years who treated me like a custom filet mignon rather than a mass produced mickey d's hamburger.

Don't be intimated by the level of hipness of this place - mostly seen in the abundance of colors (of hair) and odd-on-the-verge-of-disturbing artwork.  They're all chill and take their pretty little time to give you something you'll really love.  5 stars!

Michelle (not Michelle M) is THE raddest chick ever.
***end edit***
I had Amanda and she is the raddest chick ever.

I was a little vague when I came in today and told her I wanted to "funkify" my hair but add chunky bangs (I had really weak side-bangs earlier today). I told her that I wanted it funky with character but that I wanted her to do her thing, trusting in her expertise. She warped my hair into this bomb style that even after I washed it later tonight (I had to go running, I couldn't sacrifice my health for my hair-do) it turned out perfect again! Us girls know how it feels to be weary about washing your hair after the stylist does it - what if you can't get it back to the original coif de perfection? Anyhow, I explained how I wanted a wash-n-wear type but also one that I could blow dry but not spend a bunch of time on it..  I think I spent about maybe 5 minutes on my hair post-wash and it turned out sweet.

I came here b/c I am a new San Diegan and needed a hair cut and a salon to call my own, and after reading yelp reviews, my roomie and I booked appointments ASAP. We left happy customers, though I think my roomie would've benefited if she had Amanda, too. :)

Go to Amanda, she is BOMB.

PS. I went on a Friday at noon and parking was a breeze. Were we lucky? maybe...

No fusses and gets it done to the point.

Why I'm happy:
- no wait, easy to make appt on the phone
- cut and colored my hair with no complaints
- friendly and funny hairstylist (Debbie) who didn't try to sell me anything
- super chill area and came out satisfied

What could be better:
- parking
- $60 for a color, is that how much it is now?

Yay.

Hi everyone, I'm Kat, and I'm a cutter. A self hair-cutter, that is. Though I have tried to fight this addiction, it comes back at my weakest moments - after a break-up, during a drunken epiphany that I really should have bangs, after reading articles in Harper's Bazaar about angled bobs and/or bedhead, and finally, when I'm low on cash.

And 9 times out of 10, I'm far too confident in my personal trimming abilities, and require a follow-up visit to rehab.

Thankfully, the stylists at Electric Chair are used to clientele like myself. We show up with crooked bangs, jagged ends, spotty color, and other imbalances. They applaud our desires to take creativity in our own hands and then quietly fix our artistic blunders to perfection.

Also worth noting: when I moved away from San Diego to San Francisco back in August, one of my worries on the list was where I would find a waxer as perfect as Sophia. If she charged $100 a session for eyebrows, I would pay it (even if it meant saving money on haircuts for a few months). She's just that good.

YAY!! I found a home for my hair and waxing needs!
I recently moved to SD from NY and was seriously nervous that I wouldn't find a place that would 'GET' my crazy color and cut. Well I am HAPPY to say that I worried for nothing. Charley colored and cut my hair. She took the time to make sure she got it right.  I'm now a Charley loyalist!

Tiffany waxed me, and was gentle as could be. Her conversation and cute private room of the salon made me feel at ease. The front of the salon has an artsy almost tattoo parlor aesthetic, but Tiffany's room had a very relaxing spa like feel.

This place is totally worth the drive from North County. (Bonus: Parking is fairly easy and free)

Thank you fellow Yelpers for helping me find a new SD salon!

Terrible terrible terrible. I went in to get my hair relaxed and it didn't work at all. They charged me a hand and an eye for it and I wanted to cry when I saw my hair at home after I washed it. It's the first time my hair actually looked bushier after a relaxing treatment. They also kept me waiting for 20 minutes after they seated me and cut my hair uneven.
Writing this in response to the owner's comment: Since then we've confirmed that I've been to their store. I still stand by my review. Was severely disappointed with my experience there.

About 2 months ago, I got a job in San Diego. I packed my whole life into my little car and drove from Jersey out here. I knew no one out here and relied on Yelp to help me find places to go. Prior to leaving for my new life, I got a farewell haircut back home. It was not what I wanted and it just bummed me out. I figured since I was now in San Diego, a pick-me-up haircut was in order.

I went to The Electric Chair and Amee Gould cut my hair. Keep in mind, she was not doing a major change; rather a fix and enhance type of cut. I haven't been back in over 2 months (I know I'm due) but even grown out, it may have been the best cut I've ever had. The vibe is super chill, everyone there is very non-judgmental. They don't get caught up in a certain image of beauty and I feel they try to give the best version of you through your hair. Amee was fabulous at listening, explaining what she felt would work/what wouldn't, and she was really about treating me as a person. Not just a head with hair. She really paid attention to my daily hair routine of minimal maintenance but I wanted hair with some pizazz. She was great about recommending hair products that were inexpensive but would take me to that next level.

I would recommend this salon to all of my friends. It is a little more expensive than I would like but I feel like a million bucks when I leave for a day in OB.

I moved to San Diego in August 2009 and after a bad haircut elsewhere came to yelp in search of a salon. We live in Point Loma so I decided to try the Electric Chair. Mary was my stylist and she is amazing. She really takes her time and listens to the client. I love the decor in the salon and everyone that works there is really cool. I highly recommend them and will keep going to Mary as long as we're here.

I have been to A LOT of salons since moving to San Diego. I've been here for nearly three years and have visited prominent salons in Hillcrest, Downtown, and Mission Valley, but The Electric Chair is my new favorite.

Even though I love OB and the whole atmosphere, I definitely do not LOOK the part. I didn't come across any pretentious attitudes or rolling eyes while visiting the electric chair. The place has awesome decor, great music, and is actually huge with tons of talented stylists.

Amanda did my cut/color which both looked fabulous! I have about medium-length hair which she loaded with layers making its natural thin texture disappear. There is currently a sea of chocolate brown on top of my head, She was really friendly and worked quickly. I've litter ally been in a salon for over 3 hours for this same process, today it was less than an hour and a half. And the best part? It was actually affordable. Honestly, the cheapest cut, color, and style I've had in San Diego and it still looks great. They also do same-day appointments and walk-ins,.

I will now be a regular patron of the electric chair and suggest you join the ranks.

Okay, so I have a haircutting fetish that has kept me from seeing a professional stylist for years. There's something about chopping off my own hair that does it for me. Even when it looks like crap afterwards. Last year, I broke down and went to a stylist in Hillcrest and paid $75 (not including tip) for a shit of a haircut. That had me off the professional stylists again and back in my bathroom with a pair of rusting hair sheers and a tiled floor peppered with hair clippings.

Two days ago, I made the mistake of dousing my locks in Loreal's Feria blonding hair color. Whoops. I had hair the color of screaming yellow mustard. So I checked into The Electric Chair for some shock therapy.

Alisa strapped me into the chair and did what duty called for. With some color, toner, and sheers, she had my short tresses looking good again. Better than good. She gave me a cute pixie haircut (which I'd asked for) and turned my brassy, blazing yellow hair into a soft caramel color with whispy, natural-looking highlights.

I can now throw out my rusting hair sheers. I've been cured of my deviant fetish. And the next time I have the urge to give myself a trim or a color job, I'm checking back into The Electric Chair.

Thanks, Alisa.

I'm a dude. I have a simple hair cut. I sport a ball cap a lot. I use very little product. My hair is thinning.

I don't want an $8 haircut by some lady who doesn't speak English, who has no sense of style, who just graduated from an online haircutting school, and is looking to turn-and-burn clients.

On the other hand, I don't want to spend $50 on some snobby gay guy who has just had it with my hair, who can't understand that gel works just fine, makes me wonder what he is thinking as he shampoo's me, and leans his junk on my arm as he pushes my head to one side.

Then there's the Electric Chair. Style, Vibe, Artwork, Music, Music Videos right in front of almost every chair, stylists that have been there forever, people who know what they're doing, occasionally hot women working there, and decent price. $25 for guy's cut and 'poo....

I've been a blonde - good or bad - for YEARS. So long, in fact - that I have really no idea what my "omigod, I'm getting older and my hair isn't naturally super blonde anymore, I'd better start coloring it" really even looked like.

Then I decided it was time for a change. Regardless of how much of my personality and identity as "you know, Starlight - the tall blonde" was wrapped up in my hair color.

So I called them up (after being so highly rated on Yelp, and voted best in San Diego 2 years in a row, I figured - why not trust the masters), told them I needed a color genius, and came in for some fixin's.

And now, everyone and their brother won't stop complimenting me on my hair. I didn't even cry when my hair came out a buttery dark brown with red undertones, all shiny and multi-faceted, even though I thought I would. Blonde be gone. My boyfriend said "You've been blowing it for the last 15 years if this is how hot you look with darker hair".

All external opinions aside - Alisa did a FANTASTIC job, I look awesome - I LOVE the Electric Chair, and I shall be returning as necessary because nowhere and nobody has ever made me look this badass. Yes, the artwork is rad, the salon is happenin' but frankly, I'd sit in a cardboard box behind 7-11 to get this kind of hair.

I'm one of those types of people who always feels nervous getting a cut because I like to keep it long.  I desperately needed to cut off my split ends, so I called The Electric Store and easily made an appointment.  I was a little nervous about choosing this place since it seems like they'd be really good at the funky, retro, hipster type styles--which I can't rock.  But, I was already in OB already so it was convenient.

Debbie was my stylist and she was great.  She has been in the business for 16+ years so she definitely knew what she was doing.  She gave me a great cut, leaving my length, but giving me way more definition to my layers.  My last cut was very choppy (from Ulta, btw), but Debbie smoothed out my layers.  I will definitely go back to her.

$40 for a shampoo, cut and style = totally fair.

I recently changed my hairdresser after about 15 years.  I encountered upon Michelle Kile at the Electric Chair.   Keep in mind that I probably have had my hairstyle the same hairstyle for the past 15 years.   Not ever having my hair done by her, I took the chance and said do what you will with my hair.   The only thing I had mentioned was taking down the brassy blond color I had come to despise.  Michelle really took an interest in ensuring a creative beautiful outcome of not only the color but the cut.   Honestly, I had people tell me that I looked like a different person in the best sense.   I came out with a wonderful warm color and a hairstyle that was sassy but yet a professional look that I require.   Not only that but you know how sometimes you change your hairstyle and it looks great when you leave the salon but the next day your asking yourself, well how do I fix it that way?  Michelle showed me how and I actually was able to have my hair looking pretty good on my own.  Not as good as her of course.  :)
I highly recommend Michelle Kile. You will look beautiful!

I'll get the bad out of the way: the receptionist was stereotypically rude.

Everything else was fine; the gal who did my hair was very pleasant and knew her stuff. I didn't give much direction, because...damnit Jim, I'm a hotelier, not a hairstylist. But she did a fine job, and gave me her card so I could find her again the next time I come back, which was a welcoming gesture that beats the hell out of some such places.

They took me right away without an appointment, which evidently is not a guarantee depending on the day.

Parking was doable, and it seemed to be a pretty busy day, just take heed if you head there on Wednesday, as that's when OB has their farmer's market (an ill-fated trip to Hodad's that never was taught me this much).

I originally eyed The Electric Chair when I was walking up and down Newport Avenue.  Being new to the area, I was on the hunt for a new stylist.  As intriguing and pleasing to the eyes as the salon is, I know artwork on the walls and a good soundtrack does not always equal good hair.  I decided to ask around and see if the name was ever brought up in a "good salon" conversation.  Not surprisingly, a few girls I worked with suggested EC when I said I lived in Ocean Beach.

I called and made an appointment for a haircut with no particular stylist in mind.  They assigned me Maria and told me to come in later that evening.  About a half hour and $40 (before tip) later, I was walking out with my old self restored. She had taken a worn growing-out style and transformed it into a fun shaggy short bob.  Awesome.

I went to Maria again a few weeks later for a cut and color and was once again, thrilled with the results.  My cut is adorable... I look like a perfectly manicured pixie with amazing asymmetrical highlights throughout.

I will only trust Kathy with my hair. She always cuts it perfectly. And does my bangs just right!

Very friendly and outgoing staff. I get to bring my doggy inside with me when i go for bang trims and she gets fawned over by everyone in the joint. Tons of great art, and they always play classic rock with popular indie music thrown in as well.

They do walk ins, and appointments are generally easy to book as well. Fabulous ethesticians also!

Go on a wednesday around 2 or 3, and then get to enjoy the ob farmers market afterwards. And on that note... no parking out front on wednesdays!
