Great place with 3 levels so you get good cardio going up and down (get your mind out of the gutter guys) LOL - Serously though love the roof-top and the manly men clientle. I would say being I'm a native new yorker that's it one of the hottest men for men erotica.

No stars for this ersatz "leather", "fetish" bar.
It's more of a muscle bar, if anything. The bartenders are more enamored of themselves than being friendly to the clientele. Put a mirror in front of them and they'd be happy for the rest of their lives. If they do deign to speak, it's only to get your order and then quickly go back to themselves or their clique of gym buddies.
The place does not have long to last. There will be apartment buildings across from the and on the same side of the block as the bar. "Breeders" will not tolerate such a place for very long.
As for the clientele, sadly, even if you are standing right next to them, you have to text them. Otherwise they look straight ahead looking for Mr Right but quickly get distracted by the latest app on their cell phone.
Give up the title of "leather - fetish" bar and become just another hangout for the Internet generation. Drop the sham.

Good bar, good drinks and a very friendly crowd.  The rooftop was open so that was a perk.  Just don't understand why there are women there but I suppose you can't discriminate thought can't understand why they'd WANT to come here.

Racist against asians. Spat on my neck/back twice.

i really enjoyed have a loogie hacked on me twice tonight as two ugly (one late thirties eurotrash wearing a green shirt who was friends with the bartender and one shrimpy 50 year old in a white tank top) queens snickered, pointed, laughed, and high fived each other. it was such a delightful experience to clean it off of my clothing and neck!

These gays are just as narrow minded and homophobic as everyone else. Caution.

First off, THIS IS NOT A LEATHER BAR! New York City does not have a leather bar and has not for over 10 years. This is a local, Chelsea, neighborhood bar with everything that comes with that area. The clientele is the major draw back of the bar.

This is a large bar that has some older guys wearing leather, sometimes, but mainly WHITE guys in jeans, sneakers and even flip-flops. If the sight of older, grey haired, shirtless chubby hairy guys and Chelsea bois pretending to be leather men scares you, then this is not the place for you. IF YOU WANT/NEED A REAL LEATHER BAR, THIS IS NOT THE BAR FOR YOU. If diversity in race, body type or mentality is essential to your bar hopping experience, try somewhere else.

But, if you want an interesting night out, watching the sights and sounds of Chelsea from one of NYC's best roof top decks, this might be your spot.( But, not if you do not like cig smoke.)

I gave this bar 2 stars because:

    1) It is not a leather bar!
    2) Too many white Chelsea/A&F bois scared of anyone that does not look, act or sound like them.
    3) The door men/bartenders can be rude and nasty (not to me, but I have seen it more often than a business should accept.)
    4) It is not sleazy, sexy or have a dark back room. It is just like any other gay bar in the city, except they call themselves a leather bar. I have been going to this bar for many years and have never seen sex in the bathrooms or anything that would break the law or scare small children.
    5) It is not a leather bar.

This bar is great for their Mr. Eagle contest in October, Halloween night, Gay pride weekend and (if you love cheap beer) Sunday beer blasts are not to be missed.

A common complaint I hear among the YGF's (that's young, gay, and fabulous) of New York is of homogeneity among the homos.  Walk into any of the popular "scenester" gay places (B-Bar on a Tuesday, Hiro on Sunday, Mr. Black on a Friday, etc,) and you'll find a lot of gay men in a particular uniform: tight t-shirt (throw in a v-neck for some variety), the Diesel jeans of the moment, some cute sneakers, close cropped hair, gym-toned body, you get the picture.  While the picture I've just painted may not be a bad one, it can get a little tired after a while.

Thus, while you will most likely not find me here on any kind of regular basis, I appreciate the Eagle for reminding us all that there's something different out there.  I came on a day when the leather lifestyle was out on display on 28th Street for the Folsom Street East fair.  I went to the roof-deck , I had a beer, and I was comforted to know that I while I didn't fit in among the burly men in cut-off jeans and harnesses, at least they have a home.

Great Leather/Levi Bar. This eagle is three floor bar including the rooftop. The first night I went I won a six months free admission so you know that got me stoked. Too bad I was only in NY for 8 days. The staff is friendly and the patrons really, really friendly. Lots of nooks and cranny's to this place. The drinks are strong and moderately priced to pricey depending on what you order. I went there twice but have yet to see the downstairs open. Would love to check it out during Folsom East.

The Eagle is the cayenne pepper in the spice rack.

Keywords: raunch, kink, leather, S/M, daddies, hard core, debauchery (water sports in the bathroom, live public shavings, a lot of slutty men cruising)

This is one of the most necessary gay bars in NYC- they can't all have the generic, PG-13 flavor. The fourth star is for the sheer size of the space (I love not being cramped and viewing different enclaves of people and activities) and the fifth star is for the rooftop (smoking while drinking is a luxury these days).

The Eagle is definitely not for the faint of heart- tourist or otherwise, so it's bound to shock and mortify a lot of people. Many of us, however, wouldn't want it any other way.

    Wow.

Out of all the Eagles I've been to (just Boston. I drove by the LA one a couple of times, but couldn't go inside, because I heard stories involving fists :( ), this one is the craziest!

    1. They check IDs! - That's crazy!
    2. The drink prices aren't TOO awful ($2 more than Boston).
    3. Outdoor patio with dark Caligula corners! - I saw things that police don't give warnings for.
    4. Pitch black bathroom! - I couldn't even see my no-nos when I was using it. I just looked down, and prayed I would stay dry.
    5. Good Music!! - I totally heard Simian Mobile Disco and New Order! Not songs about Cha Cha Heels and "Ray of Light" rmxzZzz.
    6. Rami from Project Runway was within 10 feet all night!

I was just confused when it seemed to empty out around 2:00 AM since it's open until 4:00. The Boston Eagle closes around 2:00 AM, and that's when everyone goes outside, and tries to hook up with whatever is left. Do you ppl do that earlier in the night? or go to a better bar?

The Eagle is a hot bar -- huge, three-story, serious-looking space with one of the best roof decks (one of the few?) in the city, and it's packed in nice weather.

Best nights are Code on Thursdays (dress the part for $3 Buds), Fridays and Saturdays are packed but usually with of out-of-towners, and Sundays bring a more casual, younger crowd in for $2 Bud draughts. The crowd varies from leathery old men to curious summer interns, but isn't consistently any one thing. Translation: If you have a type, you may or may not find it on any given night. Sometimes it looks like walking death in there, sometimes an S&M fantasy come to life, sometimes a frat house. You drinks your beer and you takes your chances.

It's not a terribly female-friendly space, but stud bartenders, hardcore porn on the TVs and dark, cruisy corners keep the men happy. If you wanna be really happy, use the bathroom on the second floor.

Yes, this is a leather bar, but no, it's not scary.  I actually had a really good time and the out-of-the-way location (you'll wonder if you're still in Manhattan) allows the Eagle to spread out across two floors and a roof deck.

If you want to get to the second floor on Thursdays, you have to be in your leather gear (full description of Dos and Don'ts on their website) or they'll make you take off your shirt.  Sundays have a much more mixed and younger crowd that was pretty friendly.  If you don't like rubbing up against strangers and being touched as you struggle to move 2 feet, then a) you're a prude and b) don't go on a Saturday night.

Well, I went on the advice of several friends to check it out - and it was quite a scene! We were there on a Saturday night, so it was fairly crowded. Staff was friendly, bartenders were HOT. Lots of big, dark places to get into trouble, too.

I don't have a WHOLE lot of experience with leather bars, but I was a bit disappointed by the Eagle. I have been to the Powerhouse here in SF as well as the Eagle here and I have had much better experiences than I did at the NY location. I think it would be unfair to judge too harshly in case they were just having an off night, but I found it to be kind of boring in comparison with the same type of bars here in SF. I'll definitely try it again when I go back, but for now.......YAWN.

The place tingles deep core of sexual desires especially for the leathers.

Music, sexy lighting and people (men) created very unique space. It was very different. The original Eagle at 21st & 11th Ave was legendary and lasted through all the glory years of sexual exuberance and well beyond.

There was only ground floor with nice size bar. I liked the area where the floor had b/w tiles from where once was a kitchen. Music sounded better that area. I always thought I find fully costumed Thierry Mugler behind the bar.

Since moved to new location, I had been once. It is healthy outlook than old Eagle. I like old Eagle.

Angling to get into the 2nd floor area that was curtained off, I compromised with the "doorman" who had a problem with my sneakers.  Apparently sneakers were not allowed.  So, I semi-reluctantly took my shirt off to gain admittance.  Also on the "no" list: cologne.  So, I think I won - sneakers AND cologne!

The rooftop deck is super hot and you can get a haircut!

The last 'leather' bar in NYC. Still turns out the heat on the weekends and the roof is great summer and winter. Great videos and good music. But the best part is that it's big enough to actually cruise. You can walk around, look over the men, get looked at, play the eye contact flirt game and then consummate your hook up on the spot. Public sex is discouraged and if caught, you will get tossed out,  but smart perverts have their ways around that. Always a great place to find a private after party. I've spent every New Year's Eve here for the last 6 years.

In the last year, The Eagle has become a haven for tourists, US and international,  who like to whine about how 'tame" NYC has become. "This is just like the Eagle in my boring, lame city!"  Which might be true, but I often think the problem is in the tourists and not the bar. If you don't get it wet at the Eagle, you're either a troll or a prude.
    Bring it or stay home.

If you want a good, "leather bar" experience, go on Thursday night.  The men run the gambit of burly, bearded, and brutish, but everyone I've ever met is nice.  Lots of guys wear their gear and it's a fun time.  I know the leather scene has faded a lot in recent years, but the Eagle on a Thursday is where the fire still burns.

If you like the scene, you'll love the Eagle.

When the original Eagle and the neighboring Spike, both long-time landmarks in Manhattan's leather scene, closed in 2000, the gay community chalked up their departure as the end of yet another era. The former finally re-emerged as this spacious two-story club that captures the mood of its predecessor with concrete floors, seemingly endless miles of chain link fences, dim lighting, and music blaring from a multitude of oversized speakers. The pool-shooting, cigar-chomping, boot-shining crowd has changed somewhat, as a new generation of macho-wannabes dons leather, Levis, and military drag more as a costume than a serious commitment to a lifestyle. The once-pervasive sleaze has been sanitized, making this more of a neighborhood watering hole than the heavy cruise dive it once was although, despite its Chelsea location, you won't find any moisturized-and-moussed members of the sweater set lurking in the dark corners.

As a spur of the moment decision me and my friends came here last week. We passed by quo and was like that don't look like no leather. Then we came to the actual Eagle entrance. Score, dark and sketchy looking. PARTY FACE ON!
So imagine you're a straight guy and you have this "mis"conception of how gays clubs are creepy with sex everywhere and daddies feeling up on you from the corner? Well this is the EPIPHANY of that. There was action everywhere. EVERY. WHERE. Sit back and watch the show(if you like big dudes, these guys are big ones - not their pepe just their basic body size and shape). Overall the setting is pretty cool. Check out the roof top patio if you go~ takes a bit of navigating, especially if you are drunk.
The sex talk here is so generic like a crappy softcore porno. But that's fun in it's own way. Think "mm you're cute". Or "you're making me soooo hard".
Bartenders are super nice and over all really, not bad for an alternative scene. Not your run of the mill femme twink nation, YESSSSSS.

Will not frequent but worth a visit once in the blue for a little... excitement.

Against my better judgment, tried again. Wake up, Eagle! For hot, gay, authentically masculine men on the prowl, women of either sex are a total buzz kill. Why would anyone bring a woman to this place, ever? It's the only sexually charged bar for homos in NYC. Hey, management: Grow a pair and stop the nellies and their fag hags at the door. Pay their taxi fare to Splash or Gym Bar. Do it, like, tomorrow! After all, you do have the nerve to charge $8 for a well drink made with rotgut.

Since Hiro was just ridiculous, I downed a few more drinks at my friend's place and headed to The Eagle with him. Now this is one hell of a space, three levels including a rooftop deck which was perfect for the gorgeous weather that Memorial Day weekend brought. I had heard about The Eagle on several occasions but it took me two years to make it here, and I realized that apart from the rooftop deck, I was hardly missing out. The bar is a dive but not unhygienic-smelly, but the crowd is sooo not ME. Bears, cubs, otters, leather and some rather smelly men who really need to take a shower. The drinks are cheap and strong which helps numb the body odor. Since when is smelling bad a sing of virility? I enjoyed the music too! Though, I wouldn't say I won't be back because I really had a good time. I believe the Saturday crowd is more diverse. I wish it wasn't so out of the way though.

Good God, a huge part of me is actually glad that I don't live in NY because I don't think I would EVER leave The Eagle. This place kicks so much ass in comparison to any other bar I have ever been to. What a hot crowd, strong drinks, dark lighting and the best layout in all of NY. I had a good time here, even though it was really late and brief.  I wished we had got there earlier, but we spent so much time getting drunk at Ty's instead.  This place is really big and has really big TV's playing really intense porno...  Look away if you must.  It's a decent leather bar, you will not find even 50% of the guys wearing leather, but hey, that's what happens.  Oh well.  I'd definitely come back here - I bet it'd be real hot during the spring or summer getting crazy sweaty and dancing between first second and roof floors.  It's a mix between 20's and older men, but like I wrote, it's big enough to hold all different types of guys.

My favorite bar in the city.  Was there over Christmas on a trip that would have been better off taking alone, but that is another review for another time.  So, went there like 4 nights in a row and each night started off slow and ended up more and more crowded.  On Christmas Eve, met two British guys at Monster and took them to The Eagle.  The boys from across the pond loved it as well.  Fun bartenders and the guy that runs the store downstairs is way cool tool.  Complimented a certian type of ring I was wearing that night, he gets 6 stars.  Good layout so people are spread out, outdoor balcony for smoking, and a pool table too.  I better stop here because I am having flashbacks that I can't post here...

The Eagle is usually a leather/bear/daddy gay bar, but I went for a fashion party, where it was teeming with hip indies taking a night off from Beatrice or Santos. The location is kinda cool, amongst gritty car repair shops and sleezy strip joints far west in Chelsea. The layout is pretty sweet, though. Three floors if you include the dazzling rooftop deck with cheeky and naughty paraphenalia that serves as decor. I'll have to go back on a normal night (although I have a feeling the term "normal" should be used loosely with this place) to get a vibe for the crowd and drinks, etc. But judging the place by it's layout alone, it's pretty rad.

Awesome bar...3 fucking levels....Thursday was much fun and so was Sunday for the beer bust. Lots of hot men, but the staff was not that outgoing...or I guess I'm used to my bars in San Francisco....but all in all we had a GREAT time.

This establishment is a sh*t-show of epic, epic proportions, if you've ever wondered, "does that actually happen?" This is the place that will answer your questions. Quite possibly you need a few shots of penicillin just to sit at the bar, but if you're feeling adventurous enough to experience all levels of "sexual deviance" pay your cover, and just don't look back. Entering a bathroom and experiencing a man drinking out of a urinal, while another man, was engaged in a certain activity made plausible by the "thirsty" mans position- left me with a feeling of awe, and the question of "Really?". Definitely not my sexual cup of tea, but as a connoisseur an an avid lover of a high quality all out sh*t show, this place did not disappoint. Worth whatever penicillin goes for on the streets these days, it conveniently closes just in time for you to get a leisurely breakfast before church opens on Sunday morning to take your confession, enjoy the show.

Can you believe it took me a year of living in NYC before I got to go to the Eagle? I'd actually walked past the place once before (it's a little out of the way), and it took my bf's hippie ex to get me to go. I don't think I'd really been missing on too much, though I must confess this visit was *interesting*. I'd only been to the Portland Eagle before... not really my scene. The NYC Eagle is similar in many ways: small cockring/leather/lube shop on the first floor, where you can pick your favorite color of jockstrap, railings and chains everywhere, pretty dark rooms, older and rougher crowd (a lot of bears/cubs etc), very dark bathrooms (if they were any darker they'd just be darkrooms), and tv screens everywhere showing hardcore s/m gay porn (the kind I never ever want to see again... EVER). At least the drinks were pretty cheap ($3 Red Hook ESB on tap). Also: this place is huge: two big levels and an outdoor smoking area on the roof. Just not really my kind of crowd.

The roof top patio is just great. The drinks are cheap. What brings me here is the low-key atmosphere, also "anything goes." No pretensions, it's the opposite of prissy. Some nights, things get a little intense (a man laying on the ground the whole night, completely silent, at his boyfriend's ("master's?") boots). Some nights, things get really intense -- they host fetish parties, which isn't really my thing. I've heard there is a strict dress code (you have to be wearing leather, which isn't my thing -- and they supposedly discourage cologne and deodorant, which I find strange but I guess I can understand it as a way to promote a certain casualness and avoid prissyness) but I've never been turned away at the door (I'm a jeans and dress shirt kinda guy)... The bathrooms are weird and really cruisey... They play porno... There are dark corners... There are a couple pool tables which is great. A few times, I've been at Crobar (James Lavelle, Hernan Cattaneo) and when I needed a bit of air I'd head over to The Eagle (right down the street) for a cheap beer and a game of pool... Sometimes they have free hotdogs... Sometimes they grill out front, which I avoid because the frozen burgers and stale buns are way overpriced... It's a low key place where you can just relax and "let go."
