My friend and I were planning a very last minute trip to Santa Barbara, and when I was looking for a hotel, I was looking for a place nice enough that we would feel relaxed (i.e., not in a vaguely musty/unclean-feeling hotel chain) at a reasonable price. After reading yelp reviews, I looked into The Eagle Inn and I was super happy with the choice! Since I booked the room at around 7 pm on Friday night, our room was only $140/night instead of $199/night. The room had two queen beds, and when we walked in, it was huge! When we walked in, a small hallway had entrances to the bathroom, a separate kitchen with a table and chairs, and the main room with 2 queen beds.
Since I knew we'd be arriving late (around 11:30 pm), I asked when I reserved the room if we'd be able to check in that late. I was given instructions and it was super easy and simple, which was nice because we were ready to go to sleep by the time we arrived.
We had free breakfast both days. Breakfast included coffee, tea, orange juice, a big bowl of fresh fruit, and a choice of two entrees. The first day we had vanilla yogurt with homemade granola, fresh berries and an english muffin, and spinach quiche. The second day we had the same yogurt/english muffin option, and a bagel with lox. All of the food was really good and the staff was really friendly. They also offered fresh chocolate chip cookies in the evening.
The inn is a couple blocks north of the ocean and a couple blocks west of State St-- both are quick walks. The Eagle Inn also has beach cruisers available to use for free, so we took them out along the beach.
We had a great time here! The whole inn was very clean and well-decorated, and I'd definitely be happy to stay here again! -

I stayed here last month for 2 nights on a weekend getaway to Santa Barbara for some wine tasting. It's always good to to drive up, stay the night in SB and then make a fresh start the next morning for wine tasting.
I chose this place because the rooms looked nice on the website and it wasn't overly expensive. I didn't want to stay anywhere that was over the top Victorian or too frou frou. The Eagle Inn seemed slightly more subdued in that aspect. I chose the deluxe queen room with fireplace and verandah. I liked the idea of having both a verandah and a fireplace for the price of the room which was $165/night. The room didn't have a bathtub unfortunately but I didn't mind since I'm not a huge bath person and one of the previous reviewers mentioned something about nearly drowning, lol.
We got into town late and the staff had already left for the front desk but they set us all up by giving us the code to the front door and then picking up our packet with the keys on the counter. I noticed that the inn was very quiet. It was like that the following night as well even at 8pm. The place did have a mediterranean feel to it. The room wasn't huge but it was cozy and the lack of space was made up for by the huge veranda which also had some lounge chairs and patio table for sitting and dining outside. It overlooked the entrance of the inn. The only thing that was less than enjoyable was the small bathroom. But I guess you can't have everything. The bed was very comfortable and it was perfect for just lying in wrapped in the blankets with the fireplace on and watching tv.
Breakfast the next morning was nothing out of this world but satisfying nonetheless. They had a choice of either smoked salmon, bagel and fruit plate or yogurt, granola and fruit. They were both pretty good.
Cozy and Comfortable sums up the Eagle Inn. -

The manager/owner replied to my post on Trip Advisor. He claims he tried to work with me.....not at all true. He only response: contact Living Social for a refund. He did not help, offer me other weekends,,,,which would not have mattered, I bought this deal for my birthday, not just for any weekend.
If you read reviews, the staff is useless, some rooms have no air conditioning...and on trip advisor, either people love this place or hate it. No inbetweens....maybe he gets his friends to write nice reviews.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Friendly staff, great location, free bikes to ride!
Walls are a bit thin, as another member wrote. We were kept up a bit by someone snoring in the next room. The breakfast is tasty, but the portions are very slim. -

My boyfriend and I just had a weekend getaway this past weekend at the Eagle Inn...and it absolutely blew us away. I'm a former Westmont student and have had relatives that stayed at the other "cheaper" motels in the area and none of them even hold a candle to this. The staff is so friendly. The sheets are by Comphy Co. and are amazingly soft and the bed is very comfortable. Everything was clean. Our bathroom looked brand now and had dual shower heads in the shower - amaaaazing! Also, the room price ($156 per night) - not the cheapest - but more than fair for the included delicious breakfast each morning, the TV/cable in the room and a free DVD player (we Redboxed one night!), a mini fridge, free wi-fi, a safe, a coffee maker, and a microwave. They also keep fresh fruit, hot water/tea and coffee available all day in the lobby so as you are coming and going you can grab some complimentary refreshments. Finally, it is only a couple blocks from State Street - walking distance to downtown and only a block from the ocean. The part of town was where most of the motels are and felt pretty safe. Overall, really really enjoyed our stay here and would most definitely book again over any of the "cheaper" options in Santa Barbara.

Aww, our rescuers! We had a horrific experience at The Harbor Inn on our honeymoon so we escaped and wandered a few streets over to The Eagle Inn. We got the honeymoon suite here for less $$ than a standard room at the Harbor Inn and it was soooo much nicer.
They deliver breakfast each morning to the suites outside of the main building and even have free beach cruisers for you to use each day! The staff was super friendly, helpful and even make homemade cookies for the guests!
We loved SB and will be back to the Eagle Inn next time :) -

I am one of those people that won't put my luggage on the floors or touch the bedspreads at hotels, but that was all a distant memory when we stayed at the Eagle Inn. The room was so incredibly clean and comfortable, we never wanted to leave! We were getting married and almost half of the hotel was filled with my family and friends. Not only was every one who worked there incredibly kind, they were more than happy to help accommodate our random requests to ensure that everything ran smoothly. As an added bonus the hotel grounds and the neighborhood are beautiful and it is a quick walk to State Street! We will most DEFINITELY be staying here again!!

Review from Abbe C.
My fiance had the trip planned over 3 months ago before August. It's truly a hidden secret place to stay. The cottage we stayed in was San Nicholas. I was told that the hotel and this place are about the same price and yet most of the hotel has bad reviews except this place so I'll be surprised why people don't want to stay here especially it's more spacious than hotel
There's free wifi but since our cottage was a little away from the main lobby, we had to get a cable to hook to the plug to get internet which was a bit of an inconvenient. But, there's complimentary breakfast in the morning. My fiance and I love their bowl of freshly cut fruits! Very nice way to start the morning!
The San Nicholas room has a huge jacuzzi tub with jets. My fiance got the romance package since it was for my birthday but the staff made a mistake and delivered it the day before which was pretty upsetting to my fiance but I love the surprise even though it was one day earlier! The staff has roses in the vase, chocolate covered strawberries in the fridge, champagne and rose petal around the tub! It was very romantic!!!
It was very relaxing at the tub too especially after kayaking and day of beach cycling.
A few things about it that was short of a perfect rating were:
1) we came by to check in after kayaking but it wasn't ready yet but told us it will be ready after lunch. So we went to lunch first then came back again and the room was not ready still.
2) There was a note saying not to have the romance package delivered until the next day. I guess they don't read the note!
Despite the little things, the place is walking distance to the beach and restaurants at the pier!! It was one of the best getaways I ever had!! I would highly recommend the place for friends! -

Relaxing in the Santa Cruz cottage kept getting better as our stay continued. The Spanish style cottage was beautiful with modern appliances. There were windows in every room that had wooden blinds to open up in the morning. The jacuzzi bath tub was decorated with rose petals and had fine chocolates waiting in wine glasses around the edge of the tub. There was also a nice shower with two shower heads. My favorite part was the breakfast that arrived the morning after. I have never had such a tasty breakfast coming out of a hotel stay. We took the food to our cottage's kitchen where we dined in peace with our lovely view. This place is a wonderful treat to staying in Santa Barbara.

We stayed here for our wedding in Santa Barbara. We are very glad that we chose to stay here. When we visited the inn to see if we would like to stay we immediately fell in love. We booked a couple of queen rooms at a discounted rate for the large number of rooms our family would also be needing.
When we checked in the lady running the front desk asked if we were with the wedding. My SO mentioned we were the bride and groom and she upgraded us on the spot. She let us pick a private suite and our photographers/friends got a less private but possibly grander suite. There were wine glasses in the room (much needed later) and a great whirlpool tub. A nice balcony was on our room (much smaller compared to our friends'), and we were able to park in covered private parking. They brought us a very nice breakfast every morning and the bed was exceptionally comfortable.
There are a few things that needed work in our room, so if I could give a 4.5 star review, I would. The heater/air conditioner was quite a beastly contraption with some rather annoyingly bright LEDs right above the bed; I prefer it very dark to sleep. The window treatments were also insufficient to that end. The chairs next to the table were not the sturdiest feeling, and as a 190lb. guy, I didn't feel confident sitting in them. The door to the hallway where our room was did not lock. This didn't do anything to make us feel secure, but since someone could simply break into the balcony door it really didn't matter much. The security of our room (I cannot speak for the others) simply could have been improved. Also, there were some spotlights on some interesting statues in the room that would turn on and off at intermittent and irregular intervals. I imagine that it was an overheat protection circuit, but it was nonetheless distracting when visiting with friends we had not seen in quite some time.
All in all, we cannot recommend this place enough. We surveyed many hotels in this area of SB before deciding on this one; it was simply the best we could find for a reasonable price. The only reason for listing all of these negatives is hopefully the owner of the hotel will take them into consideration. We hope our next stay will be even closer to perfection as we certainly plan to go back and stay at this little gem. -

I've never been more pleasantly surprised by a hotel room and so completely disappointed by the hotel staff. We were in Santa Barbara for a wedding last weekend, checking in to the Eagle Inn before the 4:30pm. At check-in, the hotel staff provided the key and bad/incorrect directions to our San Miguel room.
They failed, however, to mention that they would be closed after 10pm. I have never been to a hotel where the front desk closed. They also gave us a breakfast slip to fill out and bring back later that night so we could have our breakfast delivered to us the next morning. Again, they failed to mention they close at 10:00, so guess who never got breakfast?
Around 10pm, we starting driving, and then walking around the hotel bungalows in the dark trying to find our room. The staff failed to provide an actual room number, instead giving us the name of the bungalow, which we were only able to make out after walking right up to almost every bungalow in the two block radius (over 30 minutes after our search began). I called customer service twice. The first time there was no answer. The second time, we got someone who was able to navigate us to our room. The directions were nothing like what we had recieved earlier. We complained about what we had gone through, but that person did not care and told us tothat person did not care and told us to call Paul the manager.
The room itself was nice. The dual-head shower, the huge television, the very comfortable, clean bed. The in-room spa was very luxurious and the little soaps provided in wine glasses were a nice touch. The separate kitchen (with fridge) was very nice as well. Sadly, none of that really mattered because it was all negated by what we experienced.
We were awakened by leaf blowing gardeners that were making noise outside of our window for half an hour. There was no water anywhere in our room and we had no breakfast. We had a less than desirable nights sleep since we were so pissed off trying to find our room.
At checkout, my wife complained to the unqualified lady at the front desk. The lady's reaction was essentially "bummer, sorry." During check out, we asked to speak with the manager as the girl managing the front desk was unable to provide an answer to any question and could not be bothered with our opinions. She did however produce a wedding gift bag that we were supposed to receive upon arrival. That bag had water and treats which would have been quite useful to us. When asked if there were any restaurants in the area that she might recommend, she said she had no idea. The owner, Paul, was present during this whole check out experience, but he concerned himself entirely with the organization of some brochures in the corner of the room and did not bother speaking up, even when the girl looked to him for help.
Later, when we called and attempted to reach Paul, the same girl at the counter asked us to hold. Leaving the line connected and unmuted (just muffled), she asked Paul if he was available to speak with a guest who had just checked out. Paul told her to tell us that he had left for the day. When she came back on the phone she said he was unavailable. Then we asked when he would be and she said he left for the day. That was not only unprofessional, it was basically a slap in our face. I asked when Paul might be available some other day. She said she didn't know.
Again amazing facilities, loved the the room, but felt very put off by the owner and his staff. They didn't even bother to pretend that the quality of our stay mattered to them. Would we ever stay there again? Only if we were given a sincere apology and a free room. There is no reason why we should have been dismissed that way. That was a huge waste of $269. We had a choice of a much less expensive room at Fess Parker Double Tree where our wedding party was, but we chose the Eagle Inn because we wanted what we thought would ge a romantic evening. We could not have been more disappointed. -

My husband and i stayed in the Santa Barbara cottage on our wedding night. It was very cute. The hotel staff was very professional and efficient. We had PLENTY of towels, The breakfast was wonderful and the bed was SUPER comfy (although loud from the plastic wrap they have the mattress in). It had a nice living room with cable TV and basically felt like a little house but with no air conditioning.
There is nothing REALLY bad i can say about this place other than the fact that im frugal and this was a bit to pricey for me. I didnt feel like paying another $300+ to sleep in past 11am (early ass checkout time). I had just as much fun at the best western up the street for less than half the price... They had a pool AND free wifi. -

I have to admit, it's a pretty decent Santa Barbara get away even though I was in a foul sick mood.
You're not to far away from State street and just about everything to do in Santa Barbara while also having plenty of wine/beer/food nearby. Which is a good thing because I can't really say their breakfast was anything special. So I guess one of those B's in the B&B should be changed to a B-
There was also not a single day that I went for breakfast where I didn't suddenly feel the urge to want to punch at least one or two of the other people in their smug faces for being a bit too bourgeois. Though in my defense I already said I was in a pretty sick mood.
But it seemed like the guest give off this douche-stench that made eating my fruit and cereal just a bit more difficult.
On to the subject of the room. I have to admit they were pretty nice. A fire pit protected by glass, so you have no worries of accidentally sleep walking into it or dying of poor air circulation.
You need suffer the ill effects of smelling like you've smoked two packs by the morning time. Which I have had problems in the past with when dealing with indoor fire pits.
The hot tub was.. well, it was interesting. Def. a bit of trouble dealing with getting in and out. Though that could be due to the fact that I polished off a good 3/4ths of a Telegraph brewery growler.
Might have been the time I went to the area, but the weather was really hard to adjust in the room to get it just right. Also could have been due to the fire place but I woke up with this feeling like I've been dried out and for the first time in a long experience had a bloody nose.
Again.. while sick that is not the best thing to have.
The front desk service was pretty nice and helpful. Over all, it's a good place to lay your head and get away from L.A. for a weekend. Just wish I could have been in a better mood and/or perhaps had a free pass at homicide. -

I was in Santa Barbara for a wedding and needed a place to stay for only one night, which was difficult, since most places require a two night minimum. On the Eagle Inn's website it said they required a two night minimum, but on http://Priceline.com I was able to book it for one night, so I am not sure about that.
The hotel is really cute and so are the rooms. It felt like a home away from home. The sheets were also super soft! There was also a mini fridge and microwave in the room. The only reason I took off a star was, because it was kind of loud in the morning because our room was in the main lobby, next to the breakfast room. Also, it sounded like a phone was ringing off in the distance all night. The staff was super nice though and even called my boyfriend and I a cab.
Although breakfast was free and the coffee was good, they only offered a bagel and lox or fruit and yogurt, which I thought was kind of an odd selection.
I would definitely stay there again, but it is kind of pricey! -

I love this place.
OMG. Pure awesomeness.
SANTA CRUZ
I loved this room. It has it's own living room, mini kitchen (no stove just microwave and fridge and sink - coffee maker too), bathroom, closet, bedroom, whirl pool jacuzzi, etc. I love the suite. They came with glasses and chocolates.
In the kitchen, coffee and teas for the coffee maker. They also provided plates and utensils. SWEET. Bottle opener too!
If you get a suite, you also get BREAKFAST delivered to you! WIN!
I loved this place.
The bed was fine. I remember someone reading it was hard, but it wasn't.
SHOWERS:
DUAL heads! TWO HEADS! Epic.
JACUZZI:
WHIRL POOL! JET STREAM! Win!
CONDIMENTS:
Provided Soaps, shampoo, body lotion, bath gel, shower caps and makeup remover pads!
Lots of towels and extra pillows and blankets available too.
LOCATION:
They provide parking for you but if you take the train to this location and show the ticket stub, you get 20% off your stay. I need to do that next time.
This place is three blocks from the beach! I loved it!
AMBIANCE:
Spanish style.
The room was very stylish.
OVERALL:
I'd stay here again but prob not the suites. Those are pricey even with the 20% discount. Sigh. I didn't want to leave. You could practically live in the suite. -

Stayed in a cottage here which is perfect since we have a 1 year old and the bedroom is separate from the living room so she slept soundly. Very clean overall and incredibly comfortable bedding here (sheets were soft and obviously high thread count). Great location just 2 blocks from the water. Like Arnold said "I'll be back"

This place is amazing! We stayed here on the last leg of our honeymoon and were very pleased. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The room we stayed in has a "veranda" and I would highly recommend you get that room. The veranda is huge, and very private. You have a GREAT view from this room. It even has a microwave and fridge (which we didn't use). They serve breakfast each morning - which was okay...the reason they get 4 stars instead of 5. You are literally two blocks from the beach so can walk in a matter of minutes and not have to worry about parking.
We would absolutely recommend The Eagle Inn...ask for the room with the Veranda....And check out Emilio's for dinner. a five minute walk - decent wine list and great Italian inspired menu. :))) -

For the most part, my girl and I had a great stay at the Eagle Inn. It's in a great location in a relatively quiet neighborhood, close to State St. and the beach.
The inn is clean and decorated nicely. including the rooms, and the staff is super friendly.
We stayed in a king room with a jetted tub (which was awesome) and a fireplace which made for a great romantic night.
My only complaint is that our room (which looked directly over Natoma Ave) was directly over the room where they serve breakfast in the mornings. We were awakened to sliding chairs, clanking of dishes, and bumps from the early risers below which continued for the duration of 0830-1000 breakfast hours.
Needless to say, if you'd like to sleep in late because you pulled an all nighter partying up and down State St, and you don't have any earplugs handy, or you were too tipsy to remember to put them in, do not stay in room 210... -

Lovely, spanish style building a 5 min walk from the beach.
The lady at reception was lovely & there were cookies upon arrival freshly made by the owner's 13 year old grand daughter
The rooms are huge and ours had a patio too! Bed are very comfy, wi fi internet is fast and the place has a lovely vibe overall.
Very reasonable at $150 per night & you could easily fir 4 people to a room. Breakfast is also included.
Would definitely recommend and hope to come again! -

I love this place, it has to be one of the best values in Santa Barbara as a place to stay.
1. You are literally 2 blocks away from the beach, walking to local wine bars in the area is 10 minutes, walking to downtown State St. is roughly 10-15 minutes, and the best local bar in town is a 5 minute walk down the street.
2. Had two double queen rooms for 8 guests and it was plenty roomy. They even got us an air bed in one because we had 3 couples and two singles. The air bed was even a nicer aerobed!
3. Free beach cruiser rental! We rode to downtown the morning after to get some coffee at The Press.
4. They have a simple breakfast for you included in the price. The standard OJ, fruit, and then a bagel with lox, tomato, and lettuce. It's sufficient to keep you held over until 11a or noon.
5. It was very clean and reception was very nice.
Would absolutely stay at this place next time we are in Santa Barbara. -

This was an adorable place! The place is walking distance to the pier and a couple local pub/bars where they had live music. The only CON was that our room was street side wasn't horrible considering we only stayed 1 nite but noticable. However, the hotel was aesthetically pleasing both outside and in. No problem with parking. The receptionist was very helpful and nice.

I'm surprised this place doesn't get booked up. Planned a getaway with the hubby and researched all the hotels by the beach. All the hotels had really good and really bad reviews. I only booked this one because it had cottages.
Upon driving to the hotel I saw all the hotels I read about and most of them looked like old beach motels. This one looked pretty old and didn't look too promising from the outside, but as we opened the door to our cottage (we stayed in the San Clemente cottage) I was in love! The bed was huge & had lots of pillows; very comfortable I will add. There was a 2 person whirlpool tub right next to the bed, the shower had 2 shower heads, a sitting area, fireplace, fridge, and microwave. The only thing I did not like was there was no mirror for me to do my make-up besides the one in bathroom and the one in the foyer. Other than that this cottage was like a home away from home (except better). Did I mention the hotel is a block away from the beach? It's also close to all the shopping and great restaurants! You can walk, but wear good walking shoes! BTW, this hotel does not have an outdoor pool or a restaurant, but with the beach a block away and restaurants close by who needs those amenities? -

I can't wait to go back the the Eagle Inn. I'm not going to say which room we had, because I think it's the best value room in their facilities and I want it to be available to us when we go. I will say, though, that the decor is a very Santa Barbara-ish Spanish colonial/Mexican and that any room will have character.
It was immaculate, had thoughtful amenities and the tiny shower had two heads--which would have been even more spectacular had the shower been larger. We didn't check out the breakfast, but one of the best parts about our stay was that it included two loaner bicycles that allowed us to cruise around downtown and the pier on a gorgeous day.
We will definitely return. -

Stayed with my wife and five year old son last weekend. We stayed in a deluxe room on the second floor of the main building. Our room had a full kitchen, dining set, fridge/freezer, and microwave. We were happy with everything at the Eagle Inn. When we arrived, we noticed how clean the room was.
Overall, Santa Barbara hotel prices are high, but the Eagle Inn was reasonable. Other hotels in the same area charged more, but looked older.
The location is two blocks from the beach in a quiet residential area. It was a 10 minute walk to the wharf, and about 15 minutes walking to downtown. The hotel has a private parking lot. The lot was full in the evenings, but we were always able to find a parking spot.
The customer service was great. The front desk was very efficient during both check-in and check-out. All the employees were professional and friendly.
They have cookies and iced tea in the afternoon during check-in. There is a library of DVDs that you can borrow from. The free WIFI was nice. The hot continental breakfast in the morning was good. Each morning we got a bowl of fresh fruit, followed by either bagels and lox, yogurt with granola, or a hash brown bake with english muffin. My favorite was the hash brown bake.
My wife was very happy with the Eagle Inn. We enjoyed our stay and plan to return the next time we visit Santa Barbara. -

We stayed here over the holidays for two nights after purchasing a Living Social coupon. GREAT DEAL and we were really happy with the experience. Very comfortable beds, super quiet, walking distance from state street.

We would definitely stay here again!

Spent the weekend with my husband here & we loved it. The breakfast was fresh & lite. The location was perfect, 2 blocks from the beach & around the corner from the State St. shuttle & wine tasting rooms. The staff was wonderful & room was cozy with a very comfy bed. Loved that they had free bikes to use for the day. The reasons we didn't give 5 stars are because there was no a/c (just a ceiling fan) & no bathtub (shower only). We stayed in room 219. We definitely recommend this place, you will not be disappointed!

We could not have had a better experience here. We stayed in the King Deluxe room this past weekend -- perfect ambiance for romance complete with fireplace and whirlpool en suite. The location is terrific with both Stearns Wharf and State Street within walking distance, and it's right around the corner from a market, liquor store with a very nice wine selection, and a local brewpub. The breakfast was lovely in the AM, and our stay came with a free wine tasting at a nearby place that is right on the Urban Wine Trail. Very friendly staff that helped with all of our questions. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun little romantic weekend getaway.

Sadly, I have to agree with Loren H. (posted 06/07/11). They should rename the place The Emerald City. The cottages are impossible to find--especially when you don't know your way and are given no directions. A yellow brick road would have been nice, or maybe even just a sign or two. After 10:00 pm you cannot reach the wizard, and even during normal business hours he (Paul) doesn't want to be bothered. I'm just glad I did not have to destroy any witches as there was no water in my room. It's a shame because it is a pretty place, but I would rather be in Kansas than at The Eagle Inn.

Wow. That was my first impression of this place. We stayed in the Santa Cruz room and the room was great, with one exception the bed was hard.
The room was basically a small house with a living room, small kitchen (including microwave, sink, and a fridge), large bathroom and separate bedroom.
The Jacuzzi is a good size and is in a perfect position to watch TV.
There is a DVD player in the room, so bring some if you got them. The front desk has a selection of movies, but it's not expansive and may not have what you like.
The bathroom is a good size with an enviable shower for 2 that you'll want to install at home.
The breakfast is decent, but my definition of breakfast includes some kind of protein. This one just had cereal, bagels, and muffins.
Overall it is a great little place to relax and stay in or use as a base camp to go exploring. The pier and State Street is walking distance or you can borrow a bike and explore farther out.
If we go back to Santa Barbara this will be a top choice.Comment from Paul B. of The Eagle Inn 10/27/2010

This was our second and third stay at The Eagle Inn. We stayed on a Tuesday, drove north for a couple of days, then came back and stayed on a Friday. We stayed in a different room each time. Both were great. The beds are comfortable, the sheets are amazing, and the staff and amenities were very nice. The cruiser bicycles were a big hit, and the friendly staff was a delight. The breakfast was a step above continental, with quiche and egg biscuits available along with the usual fruit, bagels, cereal, etc. I appreciated the local newspaper instead of the usual USA Today that is normally available in a hotel.
Although the lobby area is currently being renovated, it was easy to step around the worker and he was very cognizant of the hotel guests. It was a little noisy on occasion but it was never a detriment and we couldn't hear it in our room.
This is a gem of a hotel and we will be returning again.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Long Beach, CA
I discovered The Eagle Inn around 10 years ago and it's been the only Santa Barbara hotel/inn for me ever since.
The Inn is nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood just 2 blocks from the beach. On my first visit 10 years ago, I got a detached cottage with a king size canopy bed and full kitchen. The room was comfy but very old. But several years ago, they completely remodeled the place and did a wonderful job at that. The rooms still maintain that old world charm, but are now, equipped with many modern features (i.e. passcard keys, digital safe box, in-room jacuzzis, etc.).
After the remodel, the room that I now always get is the "The King Superior w/Jacuzzi". This is probably the most luxurious of them all with a huge king size bed, a jacuzzi for 2 in the living room, balcony, etc. If you go off season (which we always do), the rate for even this room is very reasonable. But even during peak season, their rates are very fair compared to others with similar offerings. They offer AAA discounts as well as seasonal specials. And if you join their email list, they'll periodically send you notices of their specials.
Although I really don't have a lot to complain about The Eagle Inn, if I were to nit pick, it would be their continental breakfast and lack of A/C. The complimentary continental breakfast is just stuff they pick up from the local Ralphs. I know it's free, but in a gourmet town like SB, I kinda hope for a little better. As for the A/C, since I usually go in the winter, it's never a problem. And being a beach town, SB is pretty comfortable even during summer with nice breezes, but for those days when the farenheits hit maximum, you may be frustrated by the lack of artificially cooled air.
All in all, however, this inn is a true bargain in a town where "bargains" are not the norm.
4.5 stars (rounded up to 5): -1/2 star for the breakfast and lack of A/C -

Had high hopes for this place, love Santa Barbara. We got a deal through Living Social or Groupon or one of those for half off. Sounded awesome. Called, made the reservation, asked about pets and was told pets are okay. We get there, with our little, non-shedding dog, and are told they have a no pet policy. Now we didn't just walk our dog though the lobby for all to see, we snuck him in in his carrier, and snuck him out and in for each walk. We go to check out, all's well, had to pay the room tax, expected, and we were on our way. The next day I notice there's a $100 charge on my credit card from them I knew nothing about. I called them and they said there's a $100 cleaning fee if you have a pet because they don't allow pets. I said there was nothing to clean, and he didn't disturb anyone. They intentionally did not mention this to me in person at any point while we were there, shady to say the least. Strikes one and two...
The room we got was the smallest I've ever stayed in, no doubt because we got it for half price. First floor, right next to the front desk and lobby with a view of the parking lot, where all could see in if you didn't close the shutters. The toilet was horrible, had to flush twice, holding the handle the whole time, every time no matter what business you did. Strike three...
I will say the outside of this place was nice, and the decor was fine.
All in all a negative experience. I will not recommend this place to anyone and will tell everyone I know who visits Santa Barbara to avoid this place like the plague. -

Hi Paul,
Heating and air conditioning? Is that even necessary in Santa Barbara?
I should've also said that the fireplace is very nice. The real problem was that the "cottage" is a room above a garage. NONE of the pictures nor did the video reveal this to us. I think you ought to tell folks that before they reserve the room because I LIVE ABOVE A GARAGE and it would have been nice to get away to some place that did not remind me of my shitty apartment.
Instead of "Santa Rosa cottage," maybe you should call it the Arthur Fonzarelli suite?1 Previous Review: Show all »

Not too bad.
Stayed in the Santa Rosa "cottage." Technically, it's just a big room above a garage.

Another decision based upon Yelp review...and another decision that I am thrilled was made!
Stayed here for one night following a friend's wedding. To help book rooms, the hotel accommodated our last-minute request for just a one-night stay, which was greatly appreciated. Then, they upgraded us to the Superior King room for free, and even let us stay 40 minutes past check-out to shower and pack.
The room was incredible, the bed linens were great, the spa tub was an extra-special treat, and the small but cute outdoor seating was charming. The service was impeccable, and the overall feel of the inn was extremely welcoming and quaint. The continental breakfast had the basics and, while it wasn't earth-shattering, it was enough to keep me full through lunch.
Great location. AWESOME service. A place I look forward to visiting again soon. -

My boyfriend and I stayed here two nights last week, a Tuesday and a Saturday. Both were last minute reservation situations. The Tuesday night stay was fantastic and the Saturday night stay was doable in a last-minute pinch.
We arrived Tuesday afternoon. The Inn was very easy to find and conveniently close to Hwy 101, 2 blocks from the beach, and close to State Street. I give it an A for location. The woman who checked us in, Roxann, was friendly and courteous. She was great. She upgraded our reservation to the room with the jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and balcony. This was WELL worth the extra $40. The room was very clean, the shower had two shower heads (love it!) and nice tile, the tub was very comfortable and relaxing. All in all, this room was lovely.
Oh, and another important note: THEY WILL NEGOTIATE THE RATE WITH YOU. This is a bonus.
The second time we stayed there, we called from the road and talked with Nancy (LOVE HER TOO!). She said they only had a few rooms left since it was late in the day. We wanted the same room as last time, but it wasn't available. We got to Santa Barbara, checked out a few other hotels and they were not what we were looking for, so we went back to the Eagle Inn and talked with Nancy face-to-face.
Nancy let us look at the few rooms that were still available. One was on the first floor and, frankly, it was dumpy and smelled like a sewer. The stench was bad and the room was clearly not clean. There was a used glass in the sink and stank so bad I couldn't breathe. We looked a few other room on the second floor, but they were really not that nice so we returned to Nancy and negotiated a rate we could live with.
Nancy was incredible. She knew we were looking for something romantic and she called a few hotels in the area that would have the amenities we wanted (fireplace, tub, balcony). She was so KIND! This woman deserves a raise (as does Roxann). Their kindness made a real difference.
I will definitely return to this place again, however, I'll do so only if I can get the room with all the amenities. -

Very nice inn, very impressed by the quality of the room and amenities. We stayed here for Valentine's day weekend, which was a bit of a splurge (due to the holiday weekend and location), but it was worth it.
We stayed in room 216, which had a fireplace and whirlpool tub in it. Since it was V day, they had very nice touches: chocolates and rose petals around the tub...very elegant.
The room was not exceptionally large, but it felt spacious enough and cozy. My fiance, Jeremy, noted how they don't have huge TV's in their rooms, unlike other hotels we've stayed in. The TV was well-placed in a cabinet to the side of the room and also included a DVD player. The size of the TV didn't really matter, but it was a nice touch to have a room that didn't center around just the TV.
The tub was very, very nice. Never stayed in a room like this before. I brought some bath salts and bubble bath, which made for a nice bath.
Food was eh, just ok. They have an afternoon tea in the reception area, but they don't seem to keep enough cookies for guests; the cookies are usually gone very quickly and their selection of teas and coffee were ok. The breakfast was ok also, we've had better (see my review for Hotel Pacific in Monterey).
All in all a very nice stay and we would definitely come again.
