First i would like to thank the previous yelper's who recommended this place. The reviews eased my concerns about booking a hotel / inn in a city I have never visited.
In Santa Barbara for a wedding this past weekend I booked a motel earlier this year. The only hotels available at that time were either way too expensive or looked questionable. I actually ended up booking a motel and read some of the review on Yahoo and Travelguide and felt pretty confident in my choice. Then hello dumb dumb I was like why not check Yelp for some real life non AAA insight. When reading about the original motel I booked I immediately cancelled the reservation based on Yelp comments.
I was quite pleased with The Eagle in nestled on a quiet residential looking block that reminded me of my old neighborhood in L.A.. It's a couple blocks to the beach or you can use one of the bikes that the hotel provides. The Inn itself is very quaint and cozy the staff was beyond helpful, friendly and gracious.
The double room comes with two huge California king bed's enough to sleep 3 or 4 people per bed (which did not happen). There was a full size kitchen which we did not need but is great if you are there for a longer stay. You will have to provide drinking water (if you don't want tap) and eating utensils if you plan to make use of the kitchen. From the pictures I have seen there are more deluxe rooms here with jacuzzi tubs and fireplace's but since I booked at the last minute we were put in a standard room.
The only misses at the Eagle Inn is the old carpet not horrible but could use a little steam clean and no air conditioning. The first night with no air conditioner was fine but the second day was difficult without air. It was extremely hot while trying to get ready to attend an afternoon wedding. With steamed showers, hair dryers and curling irons going it was really uncomfortable. We asked the front desk attendant for a portable fan but it did not provide much relief.
On the plus side fresh cookies are put out at 3, you can get a free tote along with some deals in the city if you pick up the tote coupon card by the front desk to redeem your goodies. Cute little breakfast area with a small continental breakfast and the bikes of course.
There is a $0.25 trolley that will take you over to State Street for shopping and dining you can walk to State Street if it is not too hot.
I would definitely recommend the Eagle Inn and would go back to try out one of the deluxe rooms. Giving 3 stars just because I feel if we stayed in a more deluxe room it would be worth a 4.
My bf and I stayed here one weekend bc 1. It got good reviews on yelp 2. It was a pretty good price. We went on an off weekend which may have had something to do with it so that was certainly a plus Price aside, it was a very charming hotel. The location was great, walking distance to State Street and and 2 min to Sambos which is delicious. They had a little parking lot, another plus, that you didn't have to pay for. There was a spot for us every time we drove in. The receptionist was very friendly, yes Nancy was great! but so was the other younger lady who also there during our stay. We also took advantage of the DVD library, it was sort of nice to just relax and a movie. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms but it was big enough room, we didn't feel cramped at all. There was even a little Welcome Package with shampoo, advil, gum, hair things etc.
Oh man, I have got to mention the shower! There was a shower head on either side! I never got cold, it was great, I want one at home!
Overall we were very pleased and will definitely be returning!
Another decision based upon Yelp review...and another decision that I am thrilled was made!
Stayed here for one night following a friend's wedding. To help book rooms, the hotel accommodated our last-minute request for just a one-night stay, which was greatly appreciated. Then, they upgraded us to the Superior King room for free, and even let us stay 40 minutes past check-out to shower and pack.
The room was incredible, the bed linens were great, the spa tub was an extra-special treat, and the small but cute outdoor seating was charming. The service was impeccable, and the overall feel of the inn was extremely welcoming and quaint. The continental breakfast had the basics and, while it wasn't earth-shattering, it was enough to keep me full through lunch.
Great location. AWESOME service. A place I look forward to visiting again soon.
I stayed here last weekend for my wedding. This is a charming hotel one block from the Marina. The staff was super friendly (especially Charlie) and made sure we had everything we needed to make it a special weekend.
We booked the Santa Barbara Room. The attention to detail offered a stay full of little surprises. If you stay here, look inside the jewelry chest. It has several necklaces and bracelets laid out nicely. I imagined they were left behind by past guests and the staff kept them in the room. I added the flowers from my hair from our wedding as a small time capsule and cant wait to see if they are still there when we return for our anniversary next year.
Check out the photos posted here.
Very nice inn, very impressed by the quality of the room and amenities. We stayed here for Valentine's day weekend, which was a bit of a splurge (due to the holiday weekend and location), but it was worth it.
We stayed in room 216, which had a fireplace and whirlpool tub in it. Since it was V day, they had very nice touches: chocolates and rose petals around the tub...very elegant.
The room was not exceptionally large, but it felt spacious enough and cozy. My fiance, Jeremy, noted how they don't have huge TV's in their rooms, unlike other hotels we've stayed in. The TV was well-placed in a cabinet to the side of the room and also included a DVD player. The size of the TV didn't really matter, but it was a nice touch to have a room that didn't center around just the TV.
The tub was very, very nice. Never stayed in a room like this before. I brought some bath salts and bubble bath, which made for a nice bath.
Food was eh, just ok. They have an afternoon tea in the reception area, but they don't seem to keep enough cookies for guests; the cookies are usually gone very quickly and their selection of teas and coffee were ok. The breakfast was ok also, we've had better (see my review for Hotel Pacific in Monterey).
All in all a very nice stay and we would definitely come again.
The room we stayed in was nice but nothing super special. It was clean, well-maintained and up to date. The overall decor of the hotel is very nice and the front desk staff was as well. Complimentary breakfast was not impressive but adequate. Location is within easy walking distance to the beach and easy drive or long walk to downtown. The double head shower was kinda cool. Bed was comfortable. Tv is outdated with so so reception. There is a DVD player and complimentary movies at the front desk. Didn't take advantage of that though. Noise from the street outside not terrible but not total peace and quiet either. Parking can fill up and then you have to park on the street and risk getting ticketed. Overall nice, but overpriced. Paid $200 a night before tax. A much better breakfast would have made me feel it was a bit more worth that.
My boyfriend and I stayed here two nights last week, a Tuesday and a Saturday. Both were last minute reservation situations. The Tuesday night stay was fantastic and the Saturday night stay was doable in a last-minute pinch.
We arrived Tuesday afternoon. The Inn was very easy to find and conveniently close to Hwy 101, 2 blocks from the beach, and close to State Street. I give it an A for location. The woman who checked us in, Roxann, was friendly and courteous. She was great. She upgraded our reservation to the room with the jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and balcony. This was WELL worth the extra $40. The room was very clean, the shower had two shower heads (love it!) and nice tile, the tub was very comfortable and relaxing. All in all, this room was lovely.
Oh, and another important note: THEY WILL NEGOTIATE THE RATE WITH YOU. This is a bonus.
The second time we stayed there, we called from the road and talked with Nancy (LOVE HER TOO!). She said they only had a few rooms left since it was late in the day. We wanted the same room as last time, but it wasn't available. We got to Santa Barbara, checked out a few other hotels and they were not what we were looking for, so we went back to the Eagle Inn and talked with Nancy face-to-face.
Nancy let us look at the few rooms that were still available. One was on the first floor and, frankly, it was dumpy and smelled like a sewer. The stench was bad and the room was clearly not clean. There was a used glass in the sink and stank so bad I couldn't breathe. We looked a few other room on the second floor, but they were really not that nice so we returned to Nancy and negotiated a rate we could live with.
Nancy was incredible. She knew we were looking for something romantic and she called a few hotels in the area that would have the amenities we wanted (fireplace, tub, balcony). She was so KIND! This woman deserves a raise (as does Roxann). Their kindness made a real difference.
I will definitely return to this place again, however, I'll do so only if I can get the room with all the amenities.
I recently visited the Eagle Inn and thought it was a perfect weekend getaway hotel. Since I booked last minute, they offered the best rooms available for the best price. Its not particularly cheap, but the whirlpool next to the bed as well as the fireplace, balcony with sun and elephant sized shower led to an amazingly romantic and peaceful stay.
Oh yea, its 2 blocks from the beach and a few blocks from the bars/mall on State Street. Definitely stay here for a romantic getaway.
The room was so comfortable!!! Stayed in room 103. I think the staircase was above us, so you can hear everyone going up and down the stairs, but it really wasn't that bad. I think my only concern is that there wasn't A/C control. I love a cool room so you can snuggle up under the covers. So I had the ceiling fan on and the patio doors wide open. I slept like a baby in the room.
The hotel is only 2 blocks from the beach, less than a mile from all the fun things on State street. It's a great location. Away from the excitement of State Street but close enough to walk to.
Took an extra long walk in the morning and lost track of time. The girl at the front desk gave us an extra 2 hours to check-out. Would definitely return.
Location is tops a couple blocks from East Beach, the wharf and State Street (though a bit of a walk to the main shopping drag under the 101 freeway). Large spa tubs in some rooms and flat screen t.v. Property overall is kept well and most of the staff (particularly front desk person Nancy and the breakfast lady) were responsive when we asked for something. The room we stayed in looked new with hardwood floors and tile, though some things needed attention (e.g. entry cards didn't always work, air conditioning worked off and on). Parking may be limited on the weekends. Breakfast was a-o-k (the basic continental).
I can't believe I didn't YELP about this place. It's hidden off the main stripe.
It has a B&B feel, clean linens, nice hot tub (I think this place was newly renovated when we visited in 2006??)
I needed to get away from LA for the weekend and, what with the skyrocketing gas prices and all, decided that Santa Barbara was a good 4th of July option.
Per my request, the staff also arranged in-room massages which was absolutely divine!! See my review for Massage Therapy Associates.
While looking online, I found the Eagle Inn website. The photos and descriptions were exact. I chose the best room on the property, The Santa Rosa Suite. It is approximately 700 sqr feet and sits atop a 2 car garage - which were not used during our stay. The best part is that it literally was a little cottage studio with no shared walls among the other rooms.
The staff was friendly and offered maps and information we needed. When we got to the room, we were impressed. For my birthday, they had put rose petals around the big jacuzzi tub in the room. The dining table had yummy snacks and fruit. The bed was super-comfortable. We loved the fan and the option of two in-room air conditioners with temperature settings. We made use of the little kitchenette... and the best surprise of all was a veranda with two chairs that had the most perfect view of the fireworks that night! We were able to sit together and watch it without having to deal with crowds. It was like our own personal firework show.
The breakfast they serve in the morning on the main house was good. Although I noticed that the cereal was a bit stale. No worries, I would come back to this little gem of an in a heartbeat.
This place was the perfect romantic weekend getaway that my boyfriend and I envisioned for our 3 year anniversary trip to SB. :) We arrived in the city at 1:00, a bit early for check in (supposed to be at 3:00) but Roxann greeted us at the front desk and went ahead and checked us in early anyway. (She is super nice by the way and also gave us a late check out the next day!)
We reserved the queen bed room with verandah and it was such a sweet and cozy room complete with fireplace! The veranda came with two deck chairs, a small table with umbrella and a great view of the street and surrounding area. During the daytime we were able to walk easily from the Inn to State Street to go to the different wineries and explore the pier.
We also took advantage of the massage package deal offered with the Eagle Inn and Crimson Day spa later that day. What a great idea and a perfect touch for a romantic, relaxing weekend. :)
The only thing I would nitpick about aside from the granny-esque bedspread is the lack of lighting on the streets surrounding the hotel. Maybe because I'm from LA I'm just naturally paranoid about walking down dark, empty streets at night but, not really knowing SB's crime level made both of us a little worried as we walked to our dinner reservations at 8:00p later that night. Since the inn is set sort of back from the main streets State Street and Camarillo if you're paranoid like me, consider coming armed with a small flashlight, even if just to ensure you stay up on your feet. I know there were points in our walk down the side streets that we were using our cell phones to light the way!
Overall though, a great bed and breakfast type place (though I wish they served their continental breakfast till a bit later in the morning :P). The service was excellent, the entire experience was great! Next time we're getting the room with the hot tub in it!
Bf and I stayed there for the Valentine's-President holiday weekend for 2 nights.
It's a B&B style boutique hotel within walking distance to the beach. The building is Spanish style but the room decoration is a little modern.
Room was spacious and clean. We had the room with fireplace, very warm and romantic, though we had to turn it off at night (too warm). Our room also has a balcony facing to the street. The house keeper worked a shorter schedule and wouldn't be available after 1pm. But we still could get clean towel when we called the front desk.
Our bathroom is small and compact but it's clean and the shower is great.
The breakfast had a good variety, bagel, oatmeal, juice, milk, fruit, yogurt ...warm and fresh.
An anecdote: On our day of leaving, it was almost 11am when we realized the checkout time was due in a few minutes. We called the front desk and the gentleman was so nice to tell us not to hurry. So we checked out 1 hour late without being charged.
Recently renovated, this small, quiet, and charming inn - a perfect example of Spanish-Colonial architecture, a style typical of historic Santa Barbara - is ideally located in a residential neighborhood only two blocks from West Beach, and is within walking distance of Stearns Pier. A very short drive away is the center of town, a wide, tree-lined avenue with shops and restaurants conforming to the same architectural style, resulting in an interesting uniform look. The 27-room inn is a welcome change from contemporary high-rise or motel-style chain properties. Each room is unique, light, and spacious, with beautiful period furnishings. All of them have a coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave oven, cable TV with free movie channels, direct dial phone with voice mail, in-room safe, iron & ironing board, high-speed Internet access, AM/FM clock radio, and a hair dryer. Several have a fireplace, whirlpool tub, and/or a balcony. Both times we stayed here, the accommodations we had included a separate, fully equipped kitchen, where we prepared bacon and eggs to supplement the expanded continental breakfast that's included in the rates. Ample free on-site parking is available. The only thing missing, unfortunately, is a swimming pool. Rates range from $124 - 295.00, depending upon accommodations and season. Santa Barbara has enough to offer to warrant a stay of several days, and the Eagle Inn is the ideal place to put up your feet and relax after a long day of sightseeing, shopping, and dining.
This is a quaint inn in a great location in Santa Barbara. I found this place through a website booking hotel rooms, so I didn't know too much about this place as there weren't many reviews.
But I was pleasantly surprised. It's located literally 2 blocks from the beach and 2 blocks from State street, which is the main drag in Santa Barbara. It's great for tourists (like me). I like to walk, so this was the perfect place for me.
The rooms are nice. They are a little small, but clean with nice amenities like wireless internet, LCD cable TVs, DVD player. The only thing is that it would've been nice if the rooms had air conditioning.
There is only 1 person at the front desk, but the service is good. They have a free continental breakfast, which is nothing spectacular, but enough to get something in your stomach in the morning.
This is not the place for you if you're looking for amenities, swimming pool, spa, etc. But if you want a place to crash for a few nights while you explore santa barbara, this is a great location.
