This is my favorite golf course on the island.   As with all courses, the service is great, they come to your car to get your clubs if you don't do a drop.   The first 2 holes are just blah...then you start into the dunes ...the holes after are all beautiful, most surrounded by trees.   They are narrow, so watch your club selection.    Make sure you look into your scorecard, it is a book with descriptions of every hole and where to hit it.   There is a nice cross breeze in the dunes so keeps you cool.

On the day we played, there were no one in front of us or behind us.  We actually ran into a beer cart after the 9th and she told us that there were only 10 people playing that day.   We pratically had the whole course to ourselves.

I want to note that they do not provide ice chest with ice and water, so make sure you bring your own.

For one of the cheapest course, this is one of the best.

Played here earlier today and had a great time.  My green fee was 84 bucks, which is pretty good for a Maui course.  The course itself was in great condition from tee box to green.

I got out early in the morning so the wind was not too bad, even when I finished around 11.  I was paired with one other person and we finished in 3 1/2 hours, even with looking for our balls on few holes.  The course is pretty dang hard and the wind was strong enough to effect most of my shots.   Some of the fairways are extremely narrow and there is not really any place to bail out either.  There are a ton of sand traps, lots of OB and a few water hazards too.  But for the most part the course is fair, just a grind.

The Dunes is advertised as a links course, and for the most part it is.  There are some holes though that are not links holes.  Some of the tees are pretty elevated, and some of the greens are really elevated as well and require your approach shot to be carried all the way to the green.  If you try to run it up on these greens, your ball will run back down.

My one complaint would be that the carts did not have GPS, and the yardage guide you are provided with isn't that detailed.  Since this course requires a lot of precision to play well, a little more help with yardage would be nice.

Until a recent experience at Bedford Springs this was my finest hour on a golf course this year. A spectacular golf course in a beautiful location. I was fortunate when I came here to be paired with two locals who play here every weekend and they were full of tips and suggestions - some of which I was even able to execute against.

It's a wee bit pricey if you are not a local - but what the hell - it is is Hawaii and it is gorgeous so what can you expect.

The views are magnificent-  from the ocean to the mountains and everything in between - even if you are not a golfer you should should come here to take a look.

The service is also incredible - and whebn you look at what you get for what you pay is really is a tremendous value.

Mostly a vanity post, as I'm pretty happy that I got to play here, however, if you're out this way and don't mind the price tag, this place is definitely worth a look.

    Positives:

Service.  This place charges a premium to anyone who isn't a Hawaii resident.  Let me tell you though, they'll treat you like a king while you're here.  I swear they would have shined my shoes if I asked them to.  Everyone is exceptionally friendly, the entire staff from the pro to the attendants to the people working in the clubhouse.  Outstanding.

Condition.  The course is immaculately kept.  Not a fiber of grass out of place.  I'm very impressed with how well they keep it up, but I guess its easy when the weather is 90% perfect and it never gets cold.

Scenery.  Its Maui, so obviously its gorgeous.  Epic views from so many of the tee boxes of the surrounding island, volcanoes, and the ocean.  We really stopped and just stared at the scenery many times.

How about some golf cart GPS for you?  This was my first experience with these things, and I absolutely loved it.  I knew if I had 147 yards to the green, and I knew it was accurate.  Sweet!

    Negatives:

Price.  It costs about 4 times as much for tourists to play as it does for locals.  That barely seems fair to me, but I don't regret playing here either.

    Overall grade:  A

I loved this course, and its one of my favorite memories from my trip to Maui.

This is a very challenging course.  Fairways are narrow and the course is very hilly.  The Dunes is in the middle of what used to be a pineapple field.  As the name implies, if you don't hit it straight,  you'll encounter alot of dunes (if there is such a thing on a tropical island).

At the 19th hole, they've got a great restaurant, Cafe O"Lei.  Don't just have a cold one.  They serve up a great gourmet burger. Cooked medium and moist.  Golfers and non golfers alike dine here for lunch and/or dinner.  We enjoyed the food so much, we came back to eat dinner prior to taking our red eye flight back to the mainland.

The Dunes Golf Course was a fun and beautiful course to play.  Mostly par 4's and a few long and wide fair ways.  This was a challenging course yet still really fun.

The service here was impeccable. The cart attendants were super friendly and greeted us with lots of Aloha.   Luckily there was no one behind us so we played at our own pace with out people on our ass.

Overall great day on the course and a great value for the price.

Based on reviews I read, I must have had a bad experience.  Great layout for the serious golfer - but greens were awful.  Very sandy.  I was a single and had asked to get out but they said there was a group going out so I had to wait - which is fine.  Except, the group never showed and no one came to the range to say i can o anytime.  Starter did not explain where the first hole was or any particular holes that I should be prepared for since it was the first time I played there.  No ranger on course, nobody picked bags or even offered to clean after the round.  It seems to be trending towards muni status based on the conditions and service I received.  Maybe it is a single golfer thing.

Alright this goes out to all you weekend golfers, die hard golfers, cart riding wives, and anyone else who digs golf the way I do.This place is bar none the best golf course on Maui, the hardest, but definitely the most fun(remember it's a links style course).Chunk it, skull it, whiff it for all you care, it don't matter, either way this place will have you swinging for more. The greens and tee boxes are exceptionally smooth, fairways tight, and roughs friendly enough for the high handicapper.Take your chances charging some tight pins, anything slight of perfect will find you entering the treacherous Dunes traps. These bunkers will even test Phil Mickelson! The tradewinds call this course home, it'll test your every shot in the bag and then some. The layout is breath taking, challenging, and sometimes a mystery, but none the less it'll have you wanting more.No hole is the same, this place keeps it comin'.As for prices you won't find another golf course close to  their rates.$100 for visitors, $46 for residents and yes, every stroke is worth its price.Last but not least, the boys outside serving your every need. These guys are the best on the island, they make you feel like family from the parking lot to the clubhouse to the course and back. They define service with ALOHA!

We loved this course. Challenging, but a good challenge. The greens were impecable and the price was very reasonable compared to other courses we played on the island. The restaurant afterwards was great. Staff was very friendly as well. I would highly recommend you try this course!
