Needing a place to meet up with my timely-arrival-challenged friends (thought I am as guilty as they are) before our reservation at Milk and Honey, I texted everyone to meet me at nearby The Dressing Room and crossed my fingers that the bar wouldn't be too crowded... but at 10pm on a Saturday night, this place was absolutely perfect! Still plenty of seating at the bar for 5 lovely ladies, a dj spinning classics like the "Harlem Shuffle" and guilty pleasures like "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and silent files projected on the back wall. I wish there had been a cocktail menu - they must do something good with all that fresh pineapple I saw behind the bar AFTER I ordered my drink.
I didn't get to check out the clothing for fear of seeing something lovely not in my size or out of the price range... but next time I don't know if I will be able to stop myself.... because this bar is, as they say, Grade A Top Choice Meat!
This place was lovely. The first floor had some unique independent designer clothing, and it actually didn't cost an entire arm and a leg! The second floor had some "vintage" and vintage clothing (ahem, H&M used is not vintage) and accessories. The stuff was fairly priced for the area.
The bar area was wee and looked like it served a good martini. I must test this theory out.
The staff was very nice and helpful.
What a perfect place to go with a guy lol. My fiance had his beer and I did my shopping.
The selection of clothing upstairs is blah and the vintage clothes downstairs is actually kind of gross, but I did happen to find one vintage dress hanging in the window upstairs that was cute. Not bad!
A fun little bar to hang out with your girlfriends. It's cozy and cool and not frilly and sweet. It's masculine enough for your male SOs to sit there and chill while you shop in the room over and romantic enough to have a tete-a-tete afterwards.
I dropped by this shop on the way home on evening and realized I had discovered a treasure trove of old, vintage designer purses at super reasonable prices. The basement is where it's at for vintage clothes and shoes as well - all of which were fairly priced too. Shop for a bit then head back upstairs for a drink and some local chatter.
Four stars is for the open bar for the 2 year anniversary! Not a bad thing when you're in a clothing store?! Yes I did say clothing store. Somehow place that is jeckyl & hyde with a real full bar on one side, walk around the other side and you have a shop featuring 12 local designers! wacky, but somehow it works. Guys, take your girlfriends here, and you can drink while they shope for clothes!
There's a guys section downstairs with vintage clothes, but seemed pretty sparse.
Oh yeah, saw a note on the wall, they have a movie night every Sunday evening. This Sunday july 26th will be Idiocracy at 8pm.
Finally! A vintage store that doubles as a bar, genius! Plus the staff are soo sweet and friendly!
The Dressing Room is a cool vintage and modern women's clothing shop with a bar. If you are into fashion, I bet you could find this place very interesting. The drinks are okay-priced. It is 3 bucks for a miller lite, which is the cheapest drink. I usually get sauvignon blanc - white wine, which costs $9 bucks. I go here to drink and socialize since my mom lives in the apartments above. Pretty cool place. Not much of a selection for men's clothing. Never crowded unless there's a party.
Hope you enjoy the rootbeer-whatchamacallit doo-wop drink on their cutesy mirror-menus...as much as I did and will continue to do...
Also, do not forget that there are more garments downstairs, currently on sale...I plan on rummaging through them sooner or later.
The bartenders are friendly as well.
I just wish they were open more often!
Good place to go when your girl is putting you through the torture of bringing you along on her shopping adventures. They have a lot of vintage clothing for both men and women, along with a full bar. Sunday nights they play old school movies on the back wall. Ask Leslie for her pomegranate martinis. The whole staff here is really nice. It's a small place and I've always enjoyed getting wasted here. I DJ'd here once and had a lot of fun doing it, just that there's no room for anyone to dance.
Love the concept: drink, shop local, shop recycled thrift. Love the bar area-- although I will have to come back to see it actually in action (I came on a weekday afternoon). Friendly people.
-1 star for the musty smelling downstairs that permeates into the clothes. The selection was ok-- did NOT expect to see Forever 21 and H&M clothing thrown in the mix-- however, did spot a DVF coat that was too large for me. I ended up purchasing something in the $5 bin, but later discovered lipstick/makeup stains on the fabric. Nothing that a good cleaning can't get rid of, but still, kind of gross.
This is a great spot to chill and also shop. I would say the clothing is more for women, but they do have some cool t-shirts for men.
I like having early drinks here, before heading to other spots. Good beer options and reasonable prices. They usually show a documentary or movie on the back fall for some entertainment while waiting for friends or relaxing by yourself.
I just bought the coolest outfit here. It is so avant-garde that I can't even describe it. Left the store knowing I had found a gem and I could not stop smiling.
Up-and-coming designers and bar upstairs, vintage downstairs.
The prices were quite reasonable and the staff super nice! I will be back for more.
Love it.
I found the dopest hoodie at this place and I met the designer who just happened to be in the store at the time. I saw the hoodie in the window and just knew that it had to be mine. I went in, swallowing hard, knowing the price had to be very very expensive (it is really dope). When I learned that it was a mere $30, I could have yelped with happiness. This place rocks. So unique, has a bar inside for a one-stop, drink-n-shop experience.
Live above it and cannot tell you how dope it is to kick it at or shop. The vintage selections downstairs are great too, for guys and girls. Definitely check it out -- it's worth a trip from anywhere in manhattan or bk. It's closed on Mondays and has a movie night on Sundays....
Was here the other week for a screening of my friend Greg's short film. The bar was a little tight but "dainty." Great white wall with a golden frame they projected the film on. I'm guessing they put some pretty fun stuff up when people are just there to drink.
The clothing section is about three times the size thanks to the basement floor. They have 90% women's clothing, however, the little rack dedicated to men was packed with cool t-shirts and some long sleeve waffle fabric shirts. They were all hand pressed by different (mainly local) artists. Ranging from 35 to 55 dollars a piece they are a bit pricey, but you are getting a rare and few of a kind shirt. They are hip little articles I should add. They have plenty of smalls which was a thrill for me. I bought a red T right off the manikin with the print of a trashy looking rock star/hipster looking chick. Only worn it once and I've already received a lot of compliments
Oh yes, the help at the bar and the clothing section were exceptionally friendly and nice. In fact I was quite surprised at the level of friendly and helpful service. Check this place out!
This place has something for everyone (or anyone into cool clothing and interesting shops). I'm not much of a fashionista, but I appreciate the art of it....Independant designers sell their creative stylez on the top floor. Its all a bit pricey, but its so special b/c its hand made//designed/etc. Really cool! Theres also an adorable bar on the top floor...I'm not much of a drinker, but its a quiet/cool space. Downstairs is where you find the bargains to satisfy your cheapo shopping needs. They sell secondhand stuff, and have a little seamstress studio too. I've purchased some cute cheapo dresses...Even if you never wear it, spending 5-15$ on play clothes is fun!
Everyone is super friendly, and it seems like they really love the store. I know I do. :)
I can't imagine a worser fate for myself other than shopping AND drinking.
My Seventh Level of Hell.
Given my reputation of a lover of all things fashion, several people have suggested I check out this little boutique bar. Not only was I intrigued that I could get tipsy and blow all my money, but I was curious about all the local fashion designers that are featured here. Most of the clothing is one of a kind and for women, the pricing ranged from anywhere from affordable to expensive. it is probably just me, but for the most part, while inventive, I thought most of the clothes were very arts & crafts. I did however, find a t-shirt by New York Couture which i will go back and buy that says "Boys Pee Pee When they See Me", and well it's true, they just do. Seems appropriate.
I can only imagine that with time The Dressing Room will feature more and more creative designers and hopefully bump up their cred. In the meantime, go have a drink the bartenders are very nice and they have yummy crunchie things on the bar.
This is a really fun little place to go with your girlfriends. It's a bar and a clothing store. Upstairs are unique finds from independant designers and downstairs is a small vintage store. It's a great little lower east side haunt. The bar is small so I wouldn't recommend it for a large group - great place to meetup with a small group of girlfriends for a drink and browse around the cute store! Staff is very friendly.
this is my favorite place to go when im in NYC!
its a bar AND a clothing store! and its open late, like 1 am late! so you can go get wasted, watch a movie that they project on a screen (last time i was there they were watching the boys and girls guide to getting down), and then shop till you puke.
the awesome thing is that downstairs they have vintage and upstairs they have independent designer clothing, which is always creative, adorable and fits well. and great jewelry too! i have purchased some of the coolest pieces there, including a purple and pink jump suit onesie that has removable sleeves that turn into a matching purse!
but be careful, the $$$ adds up!
my new fav store in my neighborhood. it's a co-op run by the designers and each one takes turns working there so it was neat to talk to one of the designers working there and see her stuff. very friendly staff. there was this AWESOME dress in the window, but alas out of my price range. it was neat to see the different designers in each different section to compare and contrast the styles. results in a very eclectic offering. something for everyone. some designers are more affordable than others.
the best part was the downstairs thrift shop which had some really cool affordable stuff. got some awesome worn in comfy cowboy boots for $35 and a cute denim mini for $25. can't beat the prices.
You should definitely come to this bar, but leave your credit cards at home. Great location and great drinks are one thing, but drinking and shopping is another story. As long as you have enough will power to stay away from the shopping side of the place and stick to the drinking side, everything will be okay. They have a cute screen in the back of the place showing old movies and the bartender himself was really cool and friendly.
