I was 15 minnutes late because I couldn't find it and it was my first scheduled massage. I was scheduled for an hour treatment and they reduced my rate because I ony got a 45 minnute massage. The therapist was warm and thorough, the color scheme and environment was beautiful and I really appreciated that they weren't pretentious.
I am a massage therapist and have been in the business for eight years and definately recommend this spa. Any healing environment needs to be warm, friendly and deep with no superficial poppycock and I felt good vibes here. May you be blessed.

Big ball of Goo.
That's what Amy turned me into this morning. I carry my stress in my neck and it got so bad that I was unable to turn my head. I looked at the different reviews of the spas here on Yelp and narrowed it down to Dragontree and one other. What really convinced me to go here was the daily special offered on their web page.
I woke up this morning do to the pain and looked to see what special was going to be offered. It was a 90 min Muscle Melt massage and foot soak for a very reasonable price. I called the moment they opened at 10 am to see if they had room for me. How fantastic, they did. I was booked for 11:45am and needed to get there about 15 min before to fill out some paperwork. I live downtown and don't have a car, The Dragontree is conveniently located on the 15 line. 27th and Thurman.
I got there in plenty of time, walked through the funky cool doors and was met with a large, cool and quiet space. It was like walking into a library, where you instinctively know to keep your voice down. The women there were friendly and not at all snobby. I was checked in, immediately offered water or tea, and walked through the spa to the woman's locker room. Inside there was a sauna and two of those rain head showers as well as an assortment of things you might need when in the ladies' room. A hair dryer, contact solution, hand lotion, things like that.
I was given a key to a locker and changed into the provided robe and slippers and made my way to the secluded waiting area where water and tea was offered again. I waited only a few moments in the softly playing music until Amy came and got me. She introduced herself and lead me to her room where we sat and talked about that was going on and what I had hoped to achieve with today's session.
I got up on the table and then something happened... I can't recall exactly what it was as I seemed to be floating in semi consciousness, have strange fleeting thoughts about Yul Brenner in the King and I. I think the music had something to do with it. Before I knew it, Amy was whispering to take as much time as I need to get up off the table. Hmm? Wha? Oh, right. Have to get up now and move on to the next station. I put the robe back on and met Amy outside her room where she was waiting for me with a large glass of water. I drank the whole thing as she lead me to another room for a foot soak.
I curled up on a couch with a cool neck pad which smelled like oatmeal cookies as my feet were soaking in a warm basin of water. I was offered more water and/or tea. I was checked on often but they were not hovering. I knew I was relaxed when I noticed that people were talking to me as I could see their lips moving and heard sound but couldn't make out what they were saying.
I was there about 2.5 hours. It was heaven. When I left, I made my way to Sushiville, had lunch and came home for a nap. I really can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday by yourself. I will be going back next month for sure. I have to start budgeting for them.
My boyfriend got me a lovely gift certificate for a spa day at Dragontree for my Birthday. I haven't heard of it, so I was happy about the gift but was petrified of the type of service I woud receive for such an expensive gift. He told me to trust him, since all the reviews he read voted it #1. I did.
They were very accommodating on the phone about the date and time. So far, so good. When I got there, I feel in love with the red garage like door. Stocks rising. I stepped inside and was transform by the ambiance. Very Tibetian inspired was the first thought that came to mind.
The staff was very friendly and she gave me instructions on where I could change and gave me a mini-tour of the place. The changing room was very beautiful and modern, but it lacked privacy. The room wasn't that big to begin with so it felt crowded at times. I sat patiently waiting for others to leave so I would have room to change.
When I finished and fully robbed, I went to the sitting room and waited for my masseuse. We had missed each other and one staff gave me iand him incorrect instructions so we walked passed each other looking for each other. I gave up and went back to the dark sitting room and waited. Finally, he stopped by and we figured it out and had a good laugh.
They started me off with a foot and head massage, which can be a little nerve-racking since I don't really like strangers touching my feet let alone by head. The guy kept on telling me to relax, I tried but failed. I was really happy when it was done.
It's strange that I don't enjoy foot or head masages, but love everything else. I entered into a large size room and settled myself on the table. I laid there for awhile, because I was recalling thinking - who picked this shag of a carpet; it's odd. The masseuse was amazing, he unknotted all the right areas. I did return for a second and third times - strictly for the deep tissue only.
To cap the day off, I had a facial. I have to say, I used to travel to SF quarterly for my facial with Catherine at Nordstrom Spa. She has since retired, so has my travel. I have not been able to find another person who can replace or come close, so this facial didn't even compare. However, that is not to say the facial person didn't do a good job. She gave me the best neck massage, ever! She had such a soft voice I had to ask her to repeat herself, but after awhile I felt so bad for asking, I simply agreed with everything she said to make it easier.
I think if I could have disssected the service into pieces rather than use it all at once, I may have enjoyed it more. Being locked up in anywhere for more than three hours, for me, can get me irrated very quickly. I really think the service here is superb is the ambiance that got me a little off centered.
I went in for the October special last month: foot bath, hand massage, body massage, and facial. My experience was amazing!
I had Matt for my massages and he had very deep pressure (but not bad pokey deep), which is exactly what I was looking for. While he did my hand massage he worked into my forearms and found areas that I didn't even know needed massage, but were soo tight! It was the kind of "hurt so good" feeling, and after my arms felt like they were floating.
The body massage was also fantastic and made a huge difference in the way my body felt afterward. Not just relaxed, but actually altered.
My esthetician for my facial was Heather, she was lovely. The facial was short in the package (only 30 minutes) and I will extend it to an hour next time. The products all smelled amazing and she had great recommendations for my skin care regimen.
The atmosphere was totally my style too, I will definitely be returning.
I went her a few months ago and really enjoyed myself. their foot baths are marvelous and their service is outstanding. Its a bit rustic and morrocan feeling here. I loved the decor. Cassie is a wonderful gal for facials and she loves to pamper you. I would highly reocmmend
I loved the atmosphere, very cozy and not stuffy at all.My husband and I had great massages and would go back for sure.. I love that there open late, next time we will make it a date night.. Woo hoo!
Living with Fibromyalgia, I know that any surgery, even just dental surgery, can throw me a curve ball. I'd heard about the Dragontree from a couple other people with chronic pain and I had upcoming jaw surgery. The evening before at, I began my Shakti spa package. Really, the treatment process began on the phone. When I called to book I explained that I wanted to prepare my body to face surgery and be ready to heal. I explained that my main problems were jaw, face and head pain. The whole experience was flawless. Moving between 4 rooms and seeing 4 or 5 practitioners, I always knew what was happening and could relax. When I wanted to alter the package slightly in the middle - to include a scalp massage during my foot soak - it was immediately feasible and the most relieving treatment!
The women who did my facial concentrated on relaxation and soothing skin that was flustered and reddening from stress about the surgery. It felt like I was there for 5 hours of bodywork even though it switch modalities from laying in a steam tent, to soaking my feet, to receiving a hot oil scalp massage, to getting a facial. What struck me was that the practitioners were really, really pain-aware. Every one of them had read my history and knew that I had fibromyalgia. Every one knew to check about pressure and heat/cold and light and smell sensitives based on that, which is so unusual. The massage was perfect deep tissue. It didn't just relieve pain-- it put me in a state of bliss.
So did the beautiful facilities. So did the Auyverdic wisdom the aesthetician read me. Dragontree is a truly healing place. For the amount of services they pack into them, their spa packages are great bargains. I would love to try their Auyverdic treatments. Simply wonderful place. It did not feel like an indulgent day spa to me-- my recovery went dramatically faster than it would have otherwise, a miracle with which I can only credit the Dragontree.
The Hot Oil Scalp Massage is not to be missed! Add it to whatever you do! It nearly put me in a trance state!
I'm updating my review with the note that the Dragontree is indeed very open and accommodating to meeting its clients' needs! I did have one less-than-ideal massage (out of three)...one that I could have been more vocal in providing my feedback. I was very courteously contacted by Dragontree management and reassured that all of their therapists undergo regular evaluations, and that they guarantee exceptional service with every visit.
Thank you to the Dragontree for showing such care and attention to your clientele...you have certainly earned my return business!

I loved everything about Dragontree, except the massage. I signed up for the deep tissue massage, and it was sadly on the weak side. I still had knots in my back, and didn't feel like I got my money's worth.
The reason I am giving Dragontree 4 stars is because I could have communicated my needs better. There's something about Dragontree that make me scared to speak up. I am a quiet person by nature, but the hushed voices made me feel bad to request anything stronger. This was probably my bad, and not Dragontree's! Advice? Don't be scared to communicate what you want. You're paying good money for it.
The place itself is beautifully created, with a warm, inviting atmosphere and a welcoming staff. I've never been to a spa before, but all the amenities (showers, lotions, robes) made me feel like a princess.
EDIT: The Dragontree's founder actually messaged me on Yelp to talk to me about my experience and help her improve their service. This kind of willingness to discuss business in a civil manner, without throwing out deragotory terms moves my original 4 star review to a 5. That's what customer reviews are all about, right? :) Hopefully I'll be able to make it back soon and give another glowing review.
The Groupon deal drew me in, as well as my desire to get a luxe spa treatment at a great price. Instead of $118, I paid $50 for three treatments: a massage, a facial and a footbath. This was my very first facial, and it was awesome. Thank you, Cassie. I would have liked a lot more intensity with the massage, I still have the tension I went in with, but it was only a half hour, and it was gently relaxing, although not curative. The footbath was very so-so, even though the atmosphere was nice. I am almost six feet tall, and the angle of being propped up on a couch, dangling my feet over the copper basin filled with water and rocks, was just not 100% comfortable and relaxing. Also, the lights seem rather bright in the footbath room. I would never pay for the footbath because there is no massage or treatment involved, other than a soak. This is something easily done at home. And the atmosphere is up to you. It was nice being served tea, and having the cold splash, but it was just nothing special. When I went to the small shower and sauna area, it was commandeered by a client who was talking animatedly in another language on her cell phone, the entire time I was trying to change, sauna, shower and decompress. I left with wet hair, because it was so irritating being in that hot room with this woman who was filling the airwaves and completely taking over the one bench that was there. I could tell that a third client who came in to begin her treatment felt at odds with the lack of room and the irritating woman, as well.
I probably sound rather picky, but I hope my criticism might help the spa revisit some of the client protocol (such as no or limited cell phone use on the premises). I still feel kind of jangled from the experience. Really, the only highlight was the facial. I would not return for the other treatments. I kind of have a headache now, and need to relax from what was supposed to be a thoroughly relaxing interlude.
Just ask my husband...there is nothing I want more than a massage. Anytime anyone asks me what I want for my birthday, Christmas, Anniversary, etc, I will always answer "a gift certificate for a massage", and inevitably, when I open my birthday cards or look in my Christmas stocking, I have to mask my complete and utter disappointment (and disbelief) that once again, no one paid any attention to my one request. So, about once a year, I save up and treat myself to a massage.
After much research (i.e. reading yelp reviews), I decided that this years splurge would be at The Dragontree, and I was not disappointed. On their website they have daily and monthly specials, and I chose the January Special (even though it was the end of February), which included a foot soak, neck/shoulder/back massage followed by a 60 minute Swedish massage. It was fabulous! I was fortunate to have Tanya for my massage treatments, and the pressure was perfect. I could feel my knots disappearing.
Now I just have to figure out how to make more money so I can afford monthly treatments.
This is probably one of the most inviting and warm spas I have ever been to. The decor is soothing and has a Moroccan esthetic with the draped fabrics and terra cotta walls.
Dragontree also carries very natural products. So natural in fact that you could probably eat them if another snow apocalypse came while you were getting a facial.
Also, Cassie is a delight if you are fortunate enough to have her as your facial lady. She is really kind and has a very calming effect on her clients. Her facials are relaxing and have made a huge difference in my complexion.
I always do a spa visit when I head to Portland once a year to visit my folks, and for the past few years I've been going to Aequis. This time I broke from tradition and tried the Dragontree after reading great reviews online, and I'm glad I did.
I happily live in Orange County, California and really don't live a very organic, hippie kind of life in general, but I don't mind going for the whole "holistic" and 21st century hippie vibe when it comes to Day Spas, so long as the place still has luxury and great service. The Day Spas I visit in SoCal are the coastal hotel superluxe type places (Hotel Montage Laguna, Hard Rock San Diego), but when I'm in Portland I'm in the mood for the more earthy and hippie scene. The Dragontree embodies this Portland vibe, and I have to respect them for really carrying through with their Zen-like philosophies. Everyone was very gracious and very kind, from the front desk staff to the massage therapists and aesthetician.
The great thing about the Dragontree is their small but very comprehensive and chic men's locker area, with the nice tiled shower and tidy locker room with attached Finnish sauna. I went on a weekday and had the place to myself, and the top-shelf shampoo, conditioner, body wash and amenities were very appreciated. I can't wait to come back here during a winter visit and really veg out in that great sauna more. I imagine the women's facilities are similar, but likely a bit larger.
The pre-massage foot scrub and scalp treatment was a perfect way to ease into the Dragontree scene, and the 90 minute sports massage was great. The massage woman was very polite and very adept with her skills, and the whole experience from foot scrub to scalp oil rub to sports massage was handled very smoothly and elegantly. I also had a men's facial, and the aesthetician was very talented and my skin looked great. Hot tea and chilled water and friendly staff in between treatments kept me very happy all afternoon.
Overall, the Dragontree now slots in a notch above Aequis for me due to their superior men's locker room and private sauna facilities. Their gracious and quietly elegant customer service was also very much appreciated. Best of all, I didn't get a sales pitch in the lobby. And the Dragontree prices are easily one third less than what I pay for similar luxury experiences here in Southern California. Bravo Dragontree!
I love Dragontree because it's local, it's intimate, it's not a chain, the staff is awesome and the services are killer.
My favorite service: the foot soak and massage. I don't know why more massage places don't do something like this. When I get a massage, one of my favorite parts is when I get my feet, calves and ankles massaged. So this just takes that joy to the next level. And a nice hot foot soak beforehand, while lounging on the comfy couches and drinking some yummy tea? aaahhhh..decadance. I'm in heaven.
when i was pregnant I had both a foot soak & massage and a pregnancy massage, and it was Exquisite. Just what a sore pregnant lady needs.
The staff is always so kind and friendly. The massage therapists are outstanding. The service is impecable.
The look and feel of Dragontree also makes me happy. Very zen. Part of my perfect spa experience is the feeling of the location. I want to feel like my cares and worries are gliding away, not that I'm in some chain salon where everything's stark white and sterile. Dragontree fits the bill perfectly.
The staff is warm and attentive and the atmosphere is unbeatable here. As a treat, I get a quarterly spa treatment at Dragontree and have never been disappointed. From simple massages to half-day spa adventures, this place will leave you enchanted and relaxed, and at a fair price for their services.
My personal favorite for massage is Tanya, who has the sensitivity to adjust depth and pressure without a single utterance from your lips. After your massage, you can fully decompress in the sauna, then take a shower in their tastefully decorated bathroom replete with stone, wood, granite and organic products if you've left your toiletries at home. Sigh...
I went here for my birthday and got the "Element Infusion" which is a foot soak, a salt scrub for your feet and legs, a hot oil scalp massage and finally a 90 minute deep tissue massage. Worth every penny!
The atmosphere is blend of middle eastern haram tent and industrial chic. Everyone there was genuinely warm and welcoming which added to the calm of the whole environment. Big cleansing sigh here, Haaaahhhh.
Dragontree was absent of all of the things that annoy me of spas. Those things are:
- too much nagchampa or similar heavy insense scents
- loud Enya or Gregorian chant music
- hippie vibe
The folks who were getting treatments here were all types AND there were quite a few guys getting treatments too. Not just another chic place! I will most certainly come here again for a treatment and will bring the husband next time.
Dragontree is the best! I have been going to this spa for a couple of years now and they are amazing. They consistently have a wonderful aroma and cleansing atmosphere. I have tried several treatments like the Head, Neck, and Shoulder rub...oh it is so great after a long week. They have these oversized couches that you just sink into and they stand over your shoulders and work their magic. Don't get me started on the range of technicians they have that will deliver every style of massage known. I would also like to mention that on my last visit I had some constructive criticism and Briana the owner addressed the email within minutes. How great is it to not only get great service while there but have the continued customer service well after you have been gone. Overall, Briana and her group do an outstanding job and if you are looking for an escape from the day to day craziness you should treat yourself to the experience of Dragontree Spa.
If I could live at this spa, I would. The energy as soon as you walk through the door is just so peaceful and relaxing. It isn't your typical day spa -- it's better. The services are all very reasonably priced, especially for what you get. Glen is my favorite deep tissue masseuse, but any of the others are good for just regular Swedish style massages. The foot soak is a great inexpensive way to relax in a calming environment. They also offer a lot of very unique ayurvedic therapies which sets them apart from other spas.
I love this place. It always serves as the perfect getaway without ever leaving town. The space is very tranquil and the therapists are friendly and professional. I can usually make a same day appointment, and the pricing is reasonable. My favorite is the 20 or 30 minute head, neck, shoulder massage on the couch with a cup of tea for only $30! Megan is the best massage therapist I've ever had, but all of the therapists are very talented.
