BEST DONUTS EVER! Really, I don't have much more to say!

Ok...maybe just a little.... They have every donut you could possibly want! Caramel long johns are on top on my list, followed by anything cinnamon. The Donut Stop seriously has every kind of fritter you can imagine! The delectable sugary, fried morsels of delight are ALL yummy, fresh, completely wonderful!

Please do not miss this place!!!!!! First the building itself is beautiful. It has a real retro/jetsons kinda feel. The coffee is great. But what you real need to try are the maple old fashions. My fav by far!! Get a few you'll need 'em.

    Hallelujah, praise the lord!

After an incredibly disappointing raspberry jelly-filled donut at our first stop on the Donut Crawl and a soggy cruller from our #4 stop, The Donut Stop ensured that the Crawl would end on a very high note with its tremendous raspberry jelly-filled.

This donut was DELICIOUS.  It was perfect.  Just the right size, dusted nicely with sparkly sugar and filled to explosive proportions with sweet, tart raspberry jelly.  That was my fifth donut in the course of a couple hours (maybe only an hour and a half?  God.) and I COULD HAVE EATEN MORE of them... except for the fact that I might've snagged the very last one.  The Donut Stop is clearly well-loved and not exactly a secret to St. Louis donut whores.  If you want to partake in the goodness and have the best selection, get your heiney there early.

P.S.  The Donut Stop also has those lovely fried pies and I can only assume that since their jelly-filled donut kicked the crap out of World's Fair's, the pies might just do the same (which would be orgasmic and mind-blowing, I'm sure).  I'll have to find out.

Hubby and I travel frequently, and our favorite past time is searching out the local gems; places we will crave insanely and lament we can't replicate the experience at home (Chicagoland) - yet take pleasure in knowing they are tucked away in nooks and crannies all over the country and look forward to visiting them again someday.  Donut Stop is an uber-gem in my book.

Amazing variety of donuts being made from scratch in plain sight - we sampled apple & cherry fritters, sugar twists, glazed, and cinnamon globs.  All were soft, fresh, and perfectly fried (and glazed).

As I'm sure it is most Sunday mornings at 10:00am, Donut Stop was crowded with patrons when we arrived.  I can't say we even waited 30 seconds to be waited on - very impressive.

The best way I can sum up our visit to Donut Stop is that every town in America should have a place like this.  Not in a franchise kind of way, but more of the traditional sense - a great place turning out a wonderful and unique product for decades.  Had my family originated in St. Louis, I have a feeling this is a place my grandparents would've taken my parents, who would've taken me, and that I would take pride in sharing with my own son.

Wow... a lot has changed in the two years since I've been to the Donut Stop...

    I've changed jobs twice...
    I drive a different car...
    Got Married...
    Bought a house...
    Got two crazy dogs...

A lot of other things too... but you know what hasn't changed?  The Donut Stop.

We are rarely ever in this area.  A friend of mine who's leaving for Iraq today was seriously jonesing for a solid donut so we decided to trek down there for donuts and coffee.

Man oh man it was as good as ever.

Their sugar twist (I don't know what class of donut it would be...) has that just slightly crispy exterior that gives way to this soft almost creamy fluffy interior.  Man... so freaking amazing.  After having two donuts, we left... hungrier...

    NOW OFF TO DIM SUM!

I can only assume the higher ratings are for their std glazed. One of the best glazed ever!!!! The rest of the asst 2 dozen we got were better than average except for the cherry pie. The cherry pie and all the remaining pies were the same darker color. It worried me a little but since hundreds of little pies were the same color I figured they were supposed to be darker. WRONG!!!! Burnt, and I am talking five shades past overdone!!! Horrible, how could anyone put out those pies if they really cared about their business? My wife and I both had to roll down the window and spit the acrid taste out! The remaining ones were OK to good but if this is one of the ten best donut places in the USA then things are really, really sad in the world of donuts! Think about the consequences if aliens were to land and read the Bon Appetit article.......they would just assume we are a world of mediocrity. For the sake of human kind take Donut Stop off of the top 10 list!!!!!!!! Who's better you ask.....Donut Palace in Ellisville or Slice of Heaven in Fenton. I will keep trying the rest for fun but so far donut stop and st louis hills don't place very high. Don't get me wrong, they both kick the heck out of Dunkin Donuts or Crispy Creme, but in the world of real baking, they are good, not great!

I had to update this review, 'cause when I first went it was our first Yelp Donut Crawl, and we showed up almost too late for the donuts. I went back today and I'm glad I did. It's a real struggle to proclaim who has the best donuts in the city...John Donut in Soulard or this place. I got a pumpkin spice which was just right in flavor (some places can really overdo the cinnamon) and fell apart in my hands, it was so moist. The blueberry, or course, with REAL blueberries (I have to stress that, because most places use fake one. How do you make a fake blueberry?) And their fritters? OMG. The cherry fritter was simply sublime. Great doughy, greasy crunch to the outside, and filled with fruit. Whoa.

And Julia W.? They've got fried pies, girl. And they kick World's Fair's ass.

If you want to know how an Apple Fritter should taste, you have to check this place out.  Holy Mother of Pearl....even after driving it back home, it was still warm, still crispy, obviously just a little bit greasy, sweet and perfect.  Usually, I can only eat one donut before getting sick, but the chocolate frosted French Donut was just beckoning me from the box and I had to partake in one more.  Though the guilt overwhelmed me later, I have to say, totally worth it.  Though it wasn't warm, it was still...just perfect.

Now, I'm generally not that big of a fan of donuts...and years of Krispy Kremes have pretty much solidified my disdain for the breakfast treat.  However, now that I found this little jewel in Lemay, well, I fear for my diet.  Seriously fear for my diet.

Definitely deserves it's mention by Bon Appetit as one of the top 10 donut places in the US.  This was our local donut place we went to when I was little.  It was close and it was good.

I've spent a lot of time trying to find a donut like this everywhere I've been and I haven't found one.  I had no idea there were only nine other places that could crank out donuts as good as theirs.

There's two donuts that I always get when I go there.  Their custard filled donut which has the perfect yeast donut consistency and perfect custard taste.  A-MAZ-ING.  The other is the glazed.  Out of this world glaze.  The pinnacle of glazed donut consistency.  It's somewhere between the light Krispy Kreme and the typical dense grocery store glazed.  I don't know how they came across the perfect middle between the two extremes, but they did.  And it works.

Of the five places we went on the donut crawl, this was my favorite.  I had a raspberry filled and it was excellent.  So soft and jam packed.  Pun intended?

Great stuff, lots of variety and still hot and fresh at 11am on a Sunday.  Try the cinnamon glob, it's got a light crunchy exterior and warm, buttery, cinnamon interior.

Ignore all unscientific polls weighted to the trendy areas .... Donut Stop on non-trendy Lemay Ferry is my first choice.  You can tell a good donut store by the employees. The number of them. Donut Stop has a zillion, swarming around that little place like flies.  Plus the variety of donuts.  A huge variety says, "We love you and we want too make you happy."  DS' variety is second-to-none.  Where else has 5 kinds of fritters?
