Here's my review, bound to get lost in the 1000+ reviews The Donut Man already has.. But heck, this place is so good that it deserves another 5 star review!

I've been here many times at all hours of the day and night. No matter what time I come, there is always a line. The first time I came here, it was strawberry season. My BF and college roommate made the trek from Riverside in the middle of the night to try these legendary donuts. We got a couple of strawberry donuts and tiger tails. There isn't any seating available so we sat on a really short cement wall right outside the gym next door.. facing a man who was running on a treadmill. I'm sure this guy was steaming with pure jealousy as he watched us devour these donuts. Who cares how disgusting we looked while stuffing our faces?

Since then, I've been back many times. I've also visited during their peach season. I wasn't too big of a fan of their peach donuts. Don't get me wrong, I like peaches. But they didn't taste as amazing as the strawberry ones.

I've also been here the morning of Mother's Day. Of course, there was a line full of older gentleman and young boys, all waiting in line to buy mommy a breakfast of delicious donuts. No lie, I was the only female in line.

One time, BF, my roommates, and I were standing in line on a cold winter night. I forgot why but two women started arguing. I think one was accusing the other of cutting in line or something. One woman, let's call her the Crazy Lady, was starting to leave but was still arguing with this other woman in line. Crazy Lady was spewing insults all over the place. Soon, everyone else in line started throwing their own insults to Crazy Lady, telling her that she's had enough sugar for the night and that she might want to cut back on the deep fried carbs. HA!

No matter where you're coming from, The Donut Man is definitely a worthy stop. You have no excuse! They're open 24 hours a day and come on.. who doesn't love a donut?

Kids, gather around and i'll tell you a story.  A story of a man.  A humble man.  An honest man.  A brilliant man.

    A Donut man.

A man who remorselessly deep-fries dough and smothers it in sugar.

A man who sources fresh fruit from local farmers.

And a man who keeps his store open 24 hours a day for stoners everywhere.

Now, we know what happens if you're bad: Santa doesn't bring you presents at Christmas.  But who keeps Santa from being bad?

    The Donut man.

I've been wanting to go to this place for quite some time now. Maybe like 1-2 months? So I finally convinced my cousin to go with me and we cruised on over on a work night (thursday) and arrived around 10:30pm. When we got there, it was a bit piercing cold but that didn't stop a good group of at least 6-8 people ahead of us from standing in line waiting to buy doughnuts. When we got there, they employees inside were still fully staff and cranking out doughnuts. There must have been like 5-7 people in there buzzing around making doughnuts. I overheard one of the customers saying how he had shown up at 4am when they were making the doughnuts fresh and that he had eaten one and that a tear rolled down his cheek. I was just like, "haha wow, now thats a true fan".

Here was my funny story / experience:

Anyhow, I went with an original glazed and my cousin got a strawberry doughnut. We didn't get any napkins so I asked for some since the two dispensers on the counter were empty. So the employee gave me some and like a good Samaritan that I am, I picked up the dispenser to give it to the employee to refill. But as I grabbed it and swung it towards him, I lost my grip and the container opened and fell out of my handing spilling over and DROPPING the milk/creamer they had for coffee all over the counter top. The employee just gave me one one of those gazes, like "Come on dude, Really?". I had obviously made him pretty downtrodden because he had to clean it up. He gave it one circular swipe with his cloth and then paused and it felt like the world had frozen, I wasn't sure why he had stopped. I think he had looked at me but I wasn't sure because I felt like a d*ck for spilling the milk and I was staring down. So I ended up just backing away from the counter and walking away with the doughnuts.

Fast forward three days and I return with my girlfriend and cousin in tow at around 10:30pm again but this time on a Sunday. Literally as we were walking up to the counter the employee that I had spilled the milk on had apparently spotted me and queued up another employee to man the window. As we had gotten to the front they were literally refilling the two napkin dispensers on the front counter by the time we were ready to order. Clearly the man remembered me and I still feel terrible about the ordeal.

But as for the strawberry doughnuts they are incredibly good. The strawberries taste great, the jam they use makes it taste so smooth. The best way I could describe it is it feels like you're eating a strawberry pastry and not a doughnut. Its definitely worthy of the $3 price tag per doughnut. I wonder how the apple doughnuts taste. Give it a try! I'd recommend this place. I love it even more so because its open 24 hours and now I always have a place to where we could go adventure too.

How have I not written a review yet?!?!
24 hours AND cheap. It's always a post-Petrillo's stop for me! I also take a lot of my friends from out-of-town here.

Seasonal fruit donuts FTW. I like to call them donut sandwiches. There's basically whole fruit (strawberries) or slices (peaches) sandwiched between a glazed donut that has been cut in half. I mean you really can't go wrong with sugar-drenched fruit sandwiched between sugary deep-fried carbs now can ya!

Oh and TIGER TAILS are a must try as well! It's a long twist of half chocolate & half glaze. Best of both worlds! Not too chocolate-ly and not too plain either.

I've had their cinnamon sugar donut holes as well. Fresh, sugary, delicious.

    I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

The best donuts I ever had!!! Everything is so fresh and so tasty. Where else can you find fresh strawberry donuts like that? The service is friendly, the price is reasonable, donuts so fresh and open 24 hours, you can't ask for more.

I really like Jim, the donut man!! He is one of a kind. I drive extra miles to Glendora just to see Jim and eat his wonderful donuts!!

Everything is great, but obviously you should try the strawberry donut if you still haven't!

There are millions of donuts shops in the all over L.A area, but I love the donut man best!! In fact, it is the best donut shop in the whole wide world ;)

Donuts. They have been an enemy for years. I hate the smell and the taste and I never thought I would find myself giving a donut shop 5 stars. Donut Man has phenomenal strawberry donuts, it boarders the line of donut and dessert. Its filled with so many fresh strawberries the donut it self becomes lost in the strawberries. The donut i did manage to taste was soft and helped balance the sweet strawberry jelly that surrounds the strawberries. And its unbelievable their available 24/7. We went on a Sunday night and they were fully stocked and employees were working on making more. I also tried a chocolate donut and it was glazed first then dipped in chocolate, i was worried it would be too sweet but it was delicious. I could not really taste the donut  dough because it had been in the freezer from the day before.

Tried the Strawberry Donuts, what theyre known for and wow it's huge. Packed high with fresh straberry, it looked almost intimidating at first. Whole fresh strawberries with glazed donut and red syrup. Initially I was scared to try it, thinking it would be too sweet. It turned out to be not AS sweet as I thought, still sweet though.. thing is,enjoy them while its in season because then theyre not available.

    their other donuts were okay.

Tiger tails and strawberry donuts.... Those 2 alone will get you to drive all the way to Glendora. The tiger tail is a monster of a glazed/chocolate twist donut. Might be my favorite thing in Donut Man's lineup. I usually order a box of tiger tails. I suggest pre-ordering cause there are times when it gets sold out. Call them to find out when they're made fresh... Expect lines at these times.

The strawberry donut is a CAKE of a donut.... Imagine a glazed donut cut in half and stuffed with glazed strawberries. It's almost too sweet, too much, to be just a donut. You gotta have it at least once.

I liked the filled french crullers. Raspberry was ok. The custard & chocolate ones are way better. The maple bars & chocolate bars they make are just ridiculous in size. I really like their old fashioned glazed donut and their glazed buttermilk bar... Their cream cheese topped cake donuts are ok. The sugar raised and the chocolate custard filled are both pretty standard.

Try the TIGER TAILS... And when in season, get the famous strawberry donut. I've yet to try the peach donut. I missed out this year but wil def get them next season.

    GO HOT OR GO HOME!!

Stop in after 8pm and peek through the window facing the parking lot to see rack after rack of hot, fresh out the fryer donuts being prepped for the hungry masses!

Only been here once but I'm eager to try it again (and again)!! All depends on what's fresh and hot, ask them and they'll get you one! Staff are friendly, and the donuts are delicious!

Strawberry donut is pretty good, reminds me of a Marie Callendar's Fresh Strawberry Pie but instead of a crunchy, buttery crust, it's a soft, airy, donut. The strawberries were a bit underripe on mine so I'm eager to try another, maybe later in the season and definitely one fresh out of the fryer!

Was it because my expectations were too high or did I just select the wrong donuts? I expected greatness after nearly one thousand reviews and an almost 5 star average (not to mention being featured on TV shows), but they weren't the best donuts I've had. They were certainly fresh, but a little too sweet.

I liked that there was a lot of variety, but we arrived during winter, so we weren't able to try any of the famous fresh fruit donuts. The pumpkin donut was unappealing to me. Most that I tried were fine, but not mind-blowing. Since my pastry chef buddy gave it 5 stars, I don't think it's a case of the Emperor's New Clothes. 3.5 and rounding up.

This place is unbelievable. Not only do I love the fact that I can drive here in the middle of the night if I want to (yay for 24hrs!), but I've been lucky enough to purchase straight-out-of-the-oven glazed donuts here on more than one occasion. Nothing tastes better than a warm, sweet, fresh glazed donut.

But the real reason why EVERYONE loves this place is their Strawberry donut & Peach donut. The fruit is fresh and the glaze is delicious. The donut is big and it doesn't get soggy fast. You have to come when they're in season!

I've tried a few of the other donuts and I've liked them all. =)

Darn it!  It's not strawberry season yet, so I missed out on trying the famous strawberry donut.  Maybe if I did, it would boost the Donut Man up a couple stars.

Tiger Tail:  good, but I think my little nieces and nephew enjoyed it more than anyone.  They devoured it!  Pretty hefty portion.

Seasonal pumpkin donut:  skip it!  It was pretty much flavored pumpkin cream cheese on a donut.  The donut itself wasn't very moist.  Pretty doughy and felt very heavy.

Strawberry cream cheese donut:  same as above.

Bulvarian cream donut:  my least favorite.  The cream tasted like paint to me.  Weird, I know.

I can't remember the other donuts but they were all pretty much A-OK.  The donuts felt dense, like they were a day old or something.  But I would definitely want to come back to try the strawberry donuts, since that's what the buzz is all about.  Supposedly they make their appearance in February!

Give me Donut Man or give me death.
It is clear that everybody loves this place, and there is no reason why you shouldn't either.

My personal favourite is the Peach filled doughnut (seasonal). The peaches are delicious and juicy (don't let the big syrupy looking tubs they come from deceive you), and when paired with Donut Man's brilliant doughnut recipe it is a mouth-gasm waiting to happen.

I think that if I ever did a Rt66 road trip starting in Cali, The Donut Man would be my first stop and I would only eat doughnuts until I reached Chicago.

    Open 24 hours: Win.
    Tiger Tail: Win!
    Strawberry-filled donut: Double WIN!

The Donut Man is an awesome place of dreams fulfilled and cravings sated. I simply cannot wait until the *Strawberry donuts are back out again. So...can we start that now? Pretty please with Bavarian Cream on top?

*A note about the Strawberry donuts: Yes, their appearance is off-putting as a glazed donut is rammed to overfilling with red, syrupy strawberries. You'd be correct to presume them "too sweet". But once you take a bite of one, you'll find that the strawberries are fresh. Not canned. So their tartness balances the glaze and syrup to enable you to eat two...three of these. As opposed to your original plan of only eating half and letting your friend eat the other half.

My newest obsession is donuts.  Forget you cupcakes, I've moved on.  I was brought here by a friend to feed my obsession.  We originally went to have the strawberry donuts, but of course they're only seasonal :(

Instead I ordered a blueberry bavarian cream donut and a raspberry cheesecake donut.  The bavarian cream was delicious.

THE RASPBERRY CHEESECAKE WAS THE BEST DONUT I'VE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE. It was literally cheescake on top of the softest most delicious donut on the planet.  OMG thinking about it is making me hungry.  If you like donuts, please try this.  You're welcome.  The Donut Man, I'll be back.

*the review is handicapped because I never got a change to try the famous fresh fruit donuts.  I was unlucky enough to go when they were out.

We hit this place the first night we were in LA at around midnight.  I couldn't wait another day to try The Donut Man.

    Food:
    Tiger tail
    Bavarian Cream
    cream filled crueller

The tiger tail is very good.  I don't get much of a chocolate flavor that gives the donut its name, but it is a damn good glazed twist.  The light, yeasty donut had really good flavor and was not oily.  Deserves the hype it gets

I'm not a big fan of Bavarian cream normally, but this is the best version I've ever had.  Again, the donut was light and airy and the custard inside was good.  Not overly sweet and plenty of it.

The Crueller was very good as well.  Airy and crispy.  The cream cheese filling had a nice balance of sweet and tart.  It really shows the quality of the Donut Man that it can do all these different styles of donuts so well.

I can't wait to head back and finally try the strawberry and peach donut.  I'm sure when I do I'll bump the rating to five stars

We drove about 30 miles from LA to get donuts here because they were on unique sweets on the cooking channel. I must say the donuts were just okay. I'm rating them 3 stars based on all the donuts we tried.
The Apple critters were really good- 4 stars. The blueberry and lemon French crullers were 3.5 stars. The tiger tail-  4 stars. Chocolate filled with bavarian cream- 3 stars. Wheat donuts with peanut butter cream and raspberry sauce - 3.5 stars.

I really like donuts. But these weren't the best amazing donuts in LA. I do give them credit for uniqueness. If they were down the street I'd probably be here all the time though. I'm sure after a few more tries that I would probably crave these donuts. I guess I'd have to taste the strawberry filled and peach filled donuts to get the whole experience of this place. But they aren't worth the drive and the traffic on the 210. And we were glad there wasn't a line- because the sun blazes at you when ordering the donuts (just an observation, does not affect the overall score).

Update- the donuts were pretty good a day after i bought them.

The fresh strawberry donuts are the best!  I get so excited when it's strawberry season now because I know that Donut Man will be making these wonderful treats.  Super fresh, super tasty and just plain amazing---worth all the hype.  I haven't tried the peach one yet, but I have had the pumpkin and it was a bit disappointing.  It wasn't very pumpkin-y, more like here's a donut with some pumpkin stuff on it.

There's just something about this place being open 24 hours that makes it a go to spot for me and my friends after a night of drinking, even if we were all the way in Rancho Cucamonga.  Donuts taste sooooo good at 3am!

Let me tell you right now that I absolutely *hated* donuts before I came here. Or rather...it turns out that I just hate Krispy Kreme! (Seriously, the heavy sugar glaze they have burns my throat, so my experience with donuts before coming here weren't pleasant.)

I used to not be able to take a bite bigger than a penny from a donut. But from here? I found the tiger tail absolutely delicious! We were lucky that they were fresh when we ordered it. It was still nice and warm on a rainy night. I also tried this one with pumpkin and cream cheese frosting. I forgot the name but it was yummy too and *not* overly sweet! I was sad that I was already full before we came here because I only ate about a fourth of the tiger tail.

It was really cool to watch the guys in the back doing the work. They actually gave my friend a free donut fresh from the fryer! Our entire group devoured that thing like a horde of zombies ganging up on one human, seriously (don't let that imagery ruin your appetite). I don't know what that one was called, but it was large, round and spirally looking and *very* crispy! It was very nice of them to give that to us. :3

This place made me like donuts and that is seriously an amazing feat. Bring cash (and milk) and give it a try!

    Strawberry donut....YUM!

    Tiger tail....YUM!!!

    Maple bar....YUM!!!!

    Donut stomachache....UGH...

But don't get me wrong, they were awesome. Maybe TOO awesome since I couldn't control myself and ate them all at one time. This is not recommended as it could cause diabetic shock to a non diabetic and also some serious gutache issues. Sadly you probably won't want any donuts for a few days after, but trust me, that feeling will subside in no time LOL

The staff is super attentive and pretty quick, so even a long line will move along in a pretty timely manner. The inventory turnover is of course very fast, so everything is fresh and usually warm still. Is it worth the drive? Well it's not just a drive, it's an adventure! So grab a few of your friends and head out to the famous Donut Man!

In a land with Donut shops on every intersection, The Donut Man stands proudly in the middle of a block. Never have I ever noticed so many different Donut shops than in Covina on my way to/fro this place at around 3 am and being in the middle of the block was actually quite confusing.

The Donut Man is known for the strawberry/peach filled donuts but little do they tell you they only make them 'in season.' I had them about 15 years ago and was in the area and went for a second try. Since they are not in season in January, I tried a few of the others including the tiger tail (when fresh out of the oven), a cream cheese/raspberry, and pumpkin. These yeast doughnuts are very underwhelming. I was pleased they werent over fried, but I really could ask for more than not dripping in oil.

Maybe I am spoiled by my favorites, Doughnut Plant and Balthazar in NYC, but one really can do better than The Donut Man. I do appreciate that they are open 24 hrs (as are almost all donut shops) but they have no indoor seating.

The fact that a place called Donut Man adorns the annals of fine dining in Glendora shows you how far we've come as Americans.  But who am I to talk.  I had a donut here, so I'm just as bad.  At least I walked here instead of driving.  Nevertheless, if you are so inclined to eat a donut, then you'll be impressed with the selection at the DM.  I wouldn't recommend this as a normal place that you would visit.  But every now and again, it shouldn't hurt you to partake of their fine (yet artery clogging) selection of donuts.

Theres nothing truly better than hot, fried dough.  When it comes to doughnuts, there really isn't anywhere else you should go.  Donut Man fulfills my need for the fried dough and much more, offering more variety than most other places twice or even three times its size.

When approaching Donut Man wondering what you should get, do what I do: Smell.  More likely than not, your nose knows best, and if it smells good, get it.  Old standards are of course their Fresh "fruit" donuts, which I would not blame you for camping their availability as they are worth the effort.  With regards to other favorites, go with the Tiger Tail.

    Seriously: they're grrrrrreat.

    Come for the Tigertail.
You wont regret it. I promise.

Honestly, it's just really good donuts. Especially when you can get it fresh and warm. And when you get it fresh it's crisp on the outside and hot and chewy on the inside. With a hint of chocolate, it's just so good....

They also have seasonal fruits inside the donuts depending on the season. So right now they have some filled with apple pie stuffing, some with custard and pumpkin pie on top and a peanut butter one that my guy loves(:

Over all, the staff is really fun and there are gigantic windows to watch the people in the back making your donuts!

Quick tip: Bring CASH! and some milk! You'll thank me (x

Honestly, there are among the best donuts I have ever had.  It all depends on how ya like 'em, but these guys hit the spot for me.  They are famous for their fresh fruit-filled seasonal donuts, which are way too big for one person.  My favorites are the good old chocolate glazed donut and the raspberry cream.  Their crullers, which come in several flavors depending on the day, are really fluffy and chewy.  It's worth the drive.  And while you're there, pick up some tacos at the Mexican place 1/2 block to the west on Foothill.

You never know what you've got until it's gone!

That saying makes me think of The Donut Man.
For many years I lived only two blocks from DM. I was going here back before Yelp, before it was the cool thing to do. I would visit DM weekly, some weeks daily.

Now that I live in the LBC, whenever I visit my family in the SGV I make it a point to stop by DM and pick up some of the best donuts I've ever had.

I really do miss this place like crazy. I wish I could walk there like I used to back in the day.

On my most recent trip they had a pumpkin donut.
    Yes, a pumpkin donut!

This donut was light and fluffy and topped with loads of creamy pumpkin

Why of why didn't they have this donut when I lived near by?
I feel cheated! Just kidding, DM! I love and miss you!

After a long hike up on the west fork of the San Gabriel River, I deserved a donut recommended by Huell Howser. Plus, I'm never in this area and I didn't want to regret it. Strawberries were not in season, but they had peaches. Lots of empty peach boxes behind the building is a good sign of quality and freshness!

Boy, was this thing super messy to eat! I laughed at the fork supplied, because it didn't help! The peaches were plentiful and had a slight tartness to it. Found a faucet on the side of the building and washed my hands, not sure if there was a restroom. LOL.

My co-worker brought me a tiger tail and I loved it! I can't wait to try their strawberry and peach donuts next summer.

They also brought me blueberry coffee from 7/11 and the combo was ahmazing!!!

I swear it's like Marie Calander's in a donut! Well, when peaches and strawberries are in season. Their jellies and cream donuts are awesome too! Unlike other places these guys stuff the donuts full of jelly! It's so good. Hell, even though it's like 15 miles away I'm going to make a trip right now.

Ok! I'm back! Dudes and dudettes! Get the jellies and heat it up in the microwave for 25 seconds. You'll have magic in your hands.

LOVE the STRAWBERRY DONUTS! It should be called a strawberry donut sandwich. Fresh strawberries in between a glazed donut! So goood! They only sell this during strawberry season, obviously. I think it is 3 dollars. They only accept cash here.

Tried the fresh strawberry donuts here during this past summer and they were Mmmm Mmmm delicious! I'm not a big fan of sweets to begin with, but there were really good.  We also tried the tiger tail and the bavarian cream donuts.  The tiger tail was good, not overly sweet.  The bavarian cream was FILLED with the custard and there was barely any dough surrounding it and also very tasty.

They are open 24hrs a day and cash only.

    Highly recommended!

I wasn't impressed at all. Their popular strawberry and peach donuts were out of season so I didn't get to try them. Bummer.

I got a bag of sugar donut holes, an apple filled donut, a buttermilk bar, coffee, and hot chocolate.
The donut holes were below average.
The apple donut was ok, but nothing great.
The buttermilk bar was good; something i'd order again.
The coffee and hot cocoa were terrible.

I think our run-of-the-mill donut shops in west covina/la puente serve better and cheaper donuts and coffee.
It's really not worth driving more than 5 miles for.
