After reading the other reviews I was hesitant to try The Dock tonight, but everyone else insisted. So, we went.  We arrived at 5:15, were seated right away. The hostess offered us a large round table for 5, not a good choice for 4 people who like to talk a lot during a meal. We asked for a booth, to which she quickly complied. The table, (which was stable - no rocking or wiggling), was neatly set, clean white cloth table cloth, the bench seats were clean and comfortable. The waiter was quick to our table, friendly, but not overly friendly as if he were trying to hard for a good tip. When he couldn't answer a question I had about two different draft beer he offered to bring a sample of each, then asked the others if they would like a sample. And, he didn't treat us like we were trying to weasel a "freebie" with the samples.  Again, he was quick and accurate to respond with our drink order. He was knowledgeable about the menu and made a couple of recommendations that were outstanding.  The appetizers were at our table in lightening speed, with one problem, we had talked about getting the blue crab dip but decided on the Ahi tuna instead, we got the crab dip. Not a problem, our waiter was at our table seconds after the appetizers arrived to check on things. I pointed out the mistake and he - without an attitude! - told us to keep the crab dip and he would get the tuna ordered right away. It arrived within 5 minutes, with an extra 2 pieces of tuna. The salads and entrées were right on time, delicious and hot.  Portions were a good size, my wife and split a salad and entrée and left well satisfied.

I know this review is a bit of a ramble, but I tried to capture the things that are important to me for a great casual dinning experience.

In short The Dock gets 5 stars from me because it was neat and clean, the ambiance great, the service friendly and timely, the food fresh and well prepared, the menu was creative, as opposed to boring, and the prices reasonable, and everyone we met had a pleasant attitude. We had a great time and will go back soon.

Bought a gift certificate from http://restaurant.com and made on-line dinner reservations.  Showed up only to find that they were closed - nothing on the website, no sign on the door, no message on the answering machine.  Just not open.

Again, they allowed me to purchase a gift certificate (still sorting that mess out) and make reservations.  If they ever decide to reopen, I definitely won't be going.

Okay, it's been a while.  I don't remember what I wrote about The Dock the first time we went there.  I vaguely remember the food was good.

My wife said we had a coupon for The Dock and we should give it another try, so I said, "why not?"

We went for dinner on a Saturday night about 5:30 p.m.  Only about a third of the tables were occupied.  There was no wait - we were seated immediately.  Initial service was prompt, but follow up service and attention to detail were below average.

The staff here operates on sort of a team concept where any employee passing by your table will stop and take an empty plate or glass or deliver your food when it's hot off the grill.  However, you have to wait for YOUR specific waiter for important details like asking for a desert menu or the check.  After a passing-by staff member took our empty plates, we waited for what seemed like an eternity for our waiter to come back.  By the time he came back, we just asked for the check.  He dropped that off and then disappeared for another eternity while my kids are wallowing and wailing they're bored and they want to come home.

Oh, and the coupon.  I left the coupon sitting on the table when we first arrived, and the waiter picked it up and took it away.  Then he didn't take the coupon discount off our bill when he finally brought the bill.  We eventually sorted it out, but it was just frustrating.

    Overall impression:
Food:  AWESOME.  LOVED the lobster bisque.  LOVED the chili lime scallops.  LOVED the bread.  Fantastic food.
Atmosphere:  Nice place.  I particularly enjoy their music selection here - 80's alternative.
Service:  Below average.  Slow and inattentive, although polite and friendly.

First things first - the name might fill your head with ideas of a nice waterfront view - actually sitting on a dock - tucking into some delicious seafood watching the sun dip into the horizon ... sorry to disappoint. No dock, no water, no sunset views. But hey, at least you get the whole marketing angle right? They serve seafood! Woo!

This is a new restaurant that just opened in the Lansdowne Town Center - and a good one at that. Part Bonefish Grill, part Clydes - the menu provides a good mix of both surf and turf.

The blue crab and corn chowder - delicious. Fresh corn, actual pieces of crab and not so rich that you're reaching for the cholesterol meds after a spoonful. I also sampled the fish and chips which were good. Crisp, flaky and not oily ... and more then I could actually finish. The Applewood spinach salad and Swordfish tapenade also got rave reviews.

All in all, a welcome addition to the growing sprawl of restaurants in Loudoun county. Also heard they have great happy hour specials. I'm sure I'll be back.

This is an after "7pm only" review (never stopped in before 7pm)...

This place is horrible! The DJ's couldn't spin a bottle let alone a record or a CD. Stick with beer because the mixed drinks are horrible.

The crowd ranges from 70 year old men with their collars popped hitting on 25 year olds with pick-up lines like, "Do you like to ride horses?" (true story) to 25 year old guys with pants hanging down halfway down their ass and a polo shirt made for someone three times their size.

It's hilarious that they try to come across as upscale when most college bars in Arlington and DC are more upscale than this place.

    No service whatsoever.

My mom and I came in around maybe a good hour before closing time, where the bar was fairly full and there were about 3 tables occupied with guests. I asked the hostess if it was not too late, and she said no. We walked to a table where a couple of other waitresses greeted us and were seated.

No waitress came up to us if we wanted to order something. No one even got us drinks. For 15 minutes, I looked around -- the bartender saw that I needed service and told me someone will be with me shortly.

Well, that was a fat lie.

We waited around some more, we had waitresses who passed us by (and I even talked to one -- I mean, we only had menus on our tables, no beverages nothing else), and finally decided it wasn't for us -- we headed over to Not Your Average Joe's, you know, where there's actually service.

    Never coming here again.

***Update*** August 2008- didn't want to use the update feature b/c I think you'll loose my original review.

New menu additions- fresh fish choices grilled or blackened, served with a side and priced accordingly...much like McCormick and Schmidt's.  Salmon BLT, Honey Lime Chicken Salad, and a 3 for $22 appetizer selection, great for groups.  Brunch, amazing, Sunday mornings.  Be there or be hungry!

These guys have the equation figured out- great happy hour menu (6 buck burgers and chicken sandwiches, good drink specials), and fantastic sit down menu as well.  Always has a special of the day that is some sort of fish and side combo- never been disappointed on that one.  Homemade sides (try the linguine).  Great bartenders (you'll recognize them from some of your other favorite local establishments), and attentive service.  Does get super, super busy on the Friday and Saturday rush, but that means it's good, right?  Parking may look odd- but go around back.  There's plenty!  Not a chainish franchise...just good food and good service!  Kitchen open late too!

Went to the Dock for brunch on Sunday with some friends that go there often.  We all got Bloody Mary's and i have to say they were great!! i don't always like them but i enjoyed 2 :).  We shared the crab dip that was delicisous and flavorful...but kind of small.  The menu also said it would come with bagel chips but it was served with tortilla chips..it worked.  We all got eggs benidict...2 of us with crab and 2 with smoked salmon. It was great! served with potatoes and fresh fruit. I am sure i will be back with this group since they go there all the time! the service was also great...the bloody mary's were barely gone before we were oftered another :)

Went to dinner on a Saturday night 6PM.  Family birthday celebration (our second visit there).  All the food (tuna, salads, pork chops, fish and even the steaks were quite good).  The Service in getting the food out ist too slow.  (It was slow on our last visit also - Management needs to review this issue)

After receiving our first bottle of wine the waiter indicated they were out of that particular type of wine - a bit unusual for a restaurant -  and that we would need to select another type if we desired additional bottles.  One of our party members was quite upset about that!

I want to commend the manager for professionally handling the matter and making things right. (Also kudos to the hostess for moving us to a quieter room upon request - not a easy feat on a Saturday night) It was an enjoyable visit and our group will return again ...

I'd rather have my face eaten off by wild boars than EVER go to The Dock again.

When this place first opened, I went here with friends for the Fri/Sat night entertainment. I never found anything particularly special about this place, other than the rarity of a "dance spot" in the Leesburg/Ashburn area. The bartenders were mediocre and the music was similar to that of a high school dance ("Uhhh, is that the Electric slide?").

The crowd was a decent mix of cougars, hoodrats, and young (wannabe) professionals, but everyone seemed to come for the same reason: Get drunk, cause drama, and grind up against one another. Trust me, I'm no prude... I'm a Jersey girl who spent a few years living and partying in Vegas. But in my opinion, a touch of class and general decency never hurt anyone :)

I would've given this place 2 1/2 stars if it wasn't for the one pathetic time that I actually sat down prior to 8pm to have a meal here...

Absolutely ZERO service. I was with a party of 3 and everyone's meal came out at a different time. Literally, a 10-15 minute difference between each meal. When I ordered another beer prior to my food arrival, it was only brought to me at the END of the meal (an hour later).

The manager eventually came over (he brought the beer), apologized for the horrifying service but slapped me with the ENTIRE check. He could've redeemed himself by saying "This beer is on the house" or "I took 15% off the entire check"...anything. But nope, a simple nonchalant apology was all I got. On top of the disgustingly slow and lame service, the food was bland and boring. I could've eaten my arm off and enjoyed it much better.

    NEVER NEVER NEVER again.

Please dear God do NOT eat here. This place landed me in emergency care with food poisoning!!! Worst day of my life. I know it was this place because my boyfriend had it too and it was the last meal we ate together. Wow! We sent them an email no response. I've never written a comment on here and joined to do so about The Dock. I'm laying in bed writing this on my iPhone two days later with my stomach still riling. It's too bad because we liked the service and the atmosphere but unfortunately am never ever ever going back!

Ok, this will be a relatively short review.  The food, whatever.....I am not impressed.  The bar food is almost all fried and not very good to begin with.  The bartenders are crap.  Sleezeburg debutants who act very stuck up  because they work at The Dock (sadly, it may be one of the classiest places in Leesburg!!!!).  I have never had a problem with any of them, but the service is very snotty even though they can't pour a Guiness to save their lives.  Anyway, it is in Leesburg so you should know what you are in for just by location.  To me this is only a notch or two above TGI Fridays.  Skip it unless you just want a beer at the bar....

My wife and I and the next door neighbors opted to dine at The Dock on a whim and were pleasantly surprised overall.  On the plus side, I liked being able to have a conversation without shouting, which in my experience is the norm at most establishments I've visited recently.  Maybe it's the high ceilings or the fact that tables are spaced appropriately, but either way it works.  I also like being able to read the menu without a flashlight - darkness doesn't always equate to ambience in my book.  Like any strip mall establishment, don't be suprised to find everything from couples to families with small children.  If you're looking for an intimate evening, consider eating later in the evening or face the possibility of sitting next to a stroller or two.

Service was outstanding.  Our waiter took our drink order quickly and gave us enough time to consider the specials and other menu items without feeling rushed.    This may seem like a petty gripe, but if you've ever eaten at a five-star restaurant (and I'm not talking about Lightfoot or Tuskies) you'll know a good waiter when you see one.  Ours fell into the category of good because he was polite, knowledgeable, and attentive.  These traits may be hard to come by in our area, where most waitrons (?) are younger people who take these jobs to pay the bills until something better comes along.  Kudos to our waiter for an excellent job.

The menu offers a wide variety of options, with emphasis on seafood and steak.  We ordered the Mahi-Mahi, sirloin steak, surf and turf and pasta with a creamy lobster and shrimp sauce.  All were cooked perfectly.  Portions were quite large, much to my satisfaction.  For those not willing to pay for a full meal, there were cheaper options and other smaller plates to satisfy most palates.

My first impressions of The Dock are generally favorable.  This place isn't cheap if you go full bore  - between the appetizers, drinks, entrees, dessert, and tip, I paid $98.00.  Was it worth it?  Yes, considering the quality of service, food, and ambience.  It's also nice to know that you can eat here without breaking the bank.

The Dock bills itself as a seafood restaurant.  Oddly, there aren't that many seafood items on the menu.  They seem to have more beef and chicken dishes.  (The menu is available on the restaurant's web site)

We stuck to seafood items.  The food was above average, but I don't think it quite lived up to what I expected given the great ambiance of the restaurant itself.  Some items were a bit over-salted and oily.  The calamari appetizer was much better than average.  Also, they have very nice bread for you to eat before your food arrives.

Prices are reasonable, most entrees are $8-$12.  So, it is definitely worth a try.

I have gone to the Dock since the very first day they opened and also on various business luncheons but I don't think this restaurant will be on the top of my list.    I went with my boyfriend this weekend and was very disappointed.  We went on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 and received the worst service.  Since it was beautiful outside, we chose outdoor seating.  We weren't acknowledge for about 5-10 minutes when someone came and informed us that our waiter was really tied up.  Considering there was only two other tables filled, I figured that he was also working the tables inside.  The menu is still pretty limited. (Whereas some others say it's filled with choices.)  My boyfriend and I both ordered the filet mignon and it was pretty good.  The portion size was perfect for me, but could be considered a small portion for others.  We did not receive bread but since it is a standard part of the meal, should at least be offered some.  After finishing our meal, we ordered dessert as well as asked for our check  We received our check and paid but did not receive our dessert for another 10-15 minutes.

In summary, food is mediocre and the service could improve.

I'm from out-of-town, staying at the National Conference center in Lansdowne, so this was my first experience at the Dock.  They accommodated a large group (14) on short notice, which was nice.  We went for half-price burger night; I've had better burgers, but they do a good job.  Specifically, the bacon/blue burger was tasty, but I had a feeling it wasn't 'homemade.'  The fries were crispy and they serve local beer, which I'm a fan of.  I'd go back.

The Dock has definitely gone downhill since it first opened. Appetizers are decent, but that's about it. The last time I got a salad there, most of the lettuce was brown. The service is pretty terrible. As far as nightlife goes, I've been there a few times on a Friday night, and have no desire to stand in line for 30 minutes to pay a $10 cover so that I can go inside and purchase some overpriced drinks.

My friend and I stopped here a last Tuesday evening for a drink and some dinner at the bar. The bar service was spotty. The waitress was attentive and endeared to her regulars that seemed to falling off the bar at 7pm, charming. My friend and I ordered the blue crap dip, which was tasty. It had large chunks of well cooked crab meat throughout the dip. The only complaint I have about the dip is the large amount of panko style bread crumbs that were piled on top. I am not talking a sprinkle, it was more like... "well we have all this extra bread crumb in the kitchen lets use it up." Well and it would not have even been so bizarre if someone used their culinary talents and toasted them. The steaks we ordered were satisfactory, though I have never seen a steak Oscar that relegates the crab to ones vegetable plate (odd again). Over all I feel like I would eat the food again if I didn't feel like I was competing in an empty bar with patrons that need taxi cabs not whiskey sours.

I've only eaten their once, and the food was okay, but their lounge is awful.  We were charged $28.50 for one miller lite bottle, one stella draft, and two tic tacs.  And then we were charged $33.50 for the same thing, by another bartender.  Neither of which showed us an itemized.  But, I should have known when she grinned from ear to ear when I told her we were paying cash.  The clientele is exactly what you would expect from a place located 2 minutes from Leesburg, and tries to bill itself as "competition for DC nightlife".  Don't waste your time.
