This is a fave for regulation diner food in Chelsea.  Food quality is good and prepared nicely (this is not haute cuisine kids), the service staff is gracious and the place feels worn in and comfy (kind of shabby - lol).  Head upstairs when you're looking for a cozy hideout for that weekend hangover brunch.
BTW - the sweet potato fries are some of the best I've had - nice and crispy.

I came here with two friends and the Boyfriend for a light lunch before we tackled a sample sale in the area. There was no wait and our food was brought to us in a very timely manner.

The banana chocolate chip pancakes at Dish are so delicious. Each order comes with three large pancakes that can serve two people. The boyfriend's fish and chips was also very good. The fries, though, were amazing. I couldn't stop stealing them off of his plate!

The only major complaint I had about Dish was the bathroom situation. There is only one bathroom on the ground floor and another on the top floor. Someone was in the bathroom for a very long time and hence I had to wait a very long time for my turn since there was only one.

I wouldn't mind coming back to Dish if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

This place sucks. It's a horrible excuse for food.
Slow service and sucky food. I ordered a cup of hot chocolate and apple pie with ice cream. I asked for work apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
The pie taste like it was 5 days old and the apple was no identifiable, it idid not taste like apple. The ice cream taste like cafeteria ice cream. Needless to say I felt like throwing up. It very rear I dislike an establishment this much- but they whole place was not worth my $9.00 with tip.

It was raining pretty bad when I arrived at The Dish one weekday morning during a business trip I took NYC. I asked the cab driver for breakfast recommendations (waste of time) and eventually spotted this joint so I stopped in for a quick bite to eat. I sat near the window, though whether because of the rain or the main road, it wasn't much for people watching.

I ordered coffee (good diner coffee), and the lox and bagel combo platter. The food was just ok and nothing spectacular. However, the service was pretty prompt and friendly.

Cute little place to stop in if you're passing by. Lots of seating which is a big plus.

This is a go to spot for several of my friends. I joined them last night for an inaugural visit. Enormous choice on the menu, a terrific ambience, and terrific service are the hallmarks of The Dish. That being said, I suggest you keep it really "diner simple" when you order.  I ordered a beautifully presented special, but it is too ambitious for the kitchen skill level-- bland, bland, bland. In the plus column, diner standards  Matzo ball soup and the roast rosemary chicken were very good, but overall my suggestion is go burgers, sandwiches and diner classics. I would be ok with a return visit, but I know which way to order in the future.

The absolute worst service . Was there on New Year's Day. We waited for over an hour for our order and they really didn't apologize, just making excuses in how busy they were. But really, there were no lines waiting to get in and it is after all diner food so it's supposed to be quick and fast.  BTW, when the order finally came, it wasn't even the full order, they had to go back and i had to wait longer ....and it was pretty ordinary and not great .  Not a good way to start the New Year and I definitely will not be back . Too many other great places to eat in Chelsea.

I've never eaten in...but get delivery from there all the time at work.

They NEVER mess up an order -even when I write in comments like "add a little blue cheese in a container on the side". They don't charge extra for a lot of stuff too - such as adding avocado to a grilled chicken sandwich (true story).

Also, they have really nice LARGE portions- two meals for the price of one basically. We've tried everything from pancakes to omelets to quesadillas to salads. Never been disappointed. And I have tried every diner in the neighborhood. Love them!

Good food and friendly service. Had an omelet while my friend ordered a burger and we were both happy.  The portions are decent if slightly expensive.  Coffee refills are offered quickly and the home fries were great.  Asked for my uneaten half bagel to be wrapped to go and the bag got greasy, but it still tasted good the next morning.  Would happily return.

3.5 stars.  The best part about The Dish was the Sunday morning brunch atmosphere.  We sat upstairs on the second level near the windows.  It's still bustling up there, but cozier than downstairs.  The waitress was really sweet, and the brunch food was good, but not memorable.

We later ordered dinner for delivery from this place, and it was not great.  Brunch only!

Went in after dance at the Joyce for an early dinner. Usually ok,, but today sub par. I ordered a special, Shepards Pie. It was cold, and when heated up correctly tasted primarily of ketchup. Sweet potato fries were good, hot and crispy. The waiter never asked if we wanted coffee or desert, just brought the checks.

I been going there for Baruch and Dinner for some time now. Always a seat and very little time. It a local Diner where Dominic remembers me all the time. At times he treats to a free dessert .  Dom' comes overs and greets his guest and see if they are happy with their dish and service. Like a manager should do.

The waiters ARE VERY attentive unlick Viceroy!!  for that ,  The Dish and many like it get my return business !!!

I was visiting my friend in NYC who brought me to her neighborhood favorite dining spot.  I can see why!

I only had breakfast here, but I came back the next morning because I loved it so much.  I had an omelet the first time and it was fluffy and tasty.  I had pancake envy so the next day I ordered "The Lumberjack".  It was awesome.  Not only are the pancakes fluffy and delicious.  It came with some eggs, bacon, ham and the some delicious sausage.

The service in this place is fantastic.  My coffee cup was never empty and they were very attentive and friendly.  The Dish is definitely a most excellent value for your hard earned money.  I can't wait to visit NYC again.

This is for Seamless Web order only.

The banana chocolate chip pancakes are delicious. These are not wimpy, flimsy pancakes for the faint of heart. These are hearty, moist pancakes with a perfect ratio of chocolate chips - these guys are no cheapskates when it comes to the chips. Three pancakes fill you up just right.

The milkshakes are really good too, though a bit expensive for the size - most diner milkshakes are pretty big and they bring you the leftover shake in the metal cup.

From the Seamless Web ordering process, it seemed like we were supposed to get an egg with each order of pancakes, but these were not sent.

Also, they only included four small syrup containers. This would have not been a problem if we had some at home, but we didn't, and these pancakes are big and require lots of syrup, so not enough.

The corn beef hash was just okay, not necessarily bad, but maybe a bit overcooked, to the point where it was taking the consistency of a patty.

Delivery took longer than estimated on Seamless Web.

I used to come here almost every week with my ex-bf since he lived a block away and it was a hidden gem for us.

The soup is the best I've had (chicken noodle soup) and I always secretly hope for it to be the soup of the day when I come.

I always get either their special of the day which is usually pork chops, chicken, beef etc. They have always been consistently good with their creations. I remember one time I had a pan seared chicken with cranberry sauce and almonds!

Everyone always thinks this is a diner, because of what they serve. Oh yeah.. I come here for the brunch all the time!!

I miss it now that I have no reason to venture to that neighborhood.

I can't really rate this place fairly because I came in a group of 20 people. I would have to come back with a smaller group. But considering out situation, they accommodated my group fairly well. We were seated immediately. The food came in a timely manner, one again considering how many people were at the table.

1 or 2 mistakes were made(such as forgetting peoples drinks or mixing up orders) but I totally don't blame the waiters. All of us were able to get separate checks and the hostess was very sweet. I didn't get to interact with the waiters but I would like to the next time I come.

The food was cute (I went for dinner). It's a diner, so I don't expect any thing super fancy. Either way I'd go again.

The Dish was my first stop in NY, in an attempt to get some breakfast and mimosas at 8am on Friday morning.

    Mission accomplished.

Typical diner style restaurant with mediocre food, friendly service and BOOZE. It served it's purpose and I nearly cleaned my plate.

    Enough said.

It's not the gayest diner on earth - That's Nookies Tree in Chicago, but it's one of the reasons I love The Dish oh so much when I visit New York.  Even if the food's not tasty, the boys are!  Usually, anyway.

I'm partial to two dishes on The Dish's menu:
    1.  Blackened Romanian Steak Salad.  OMG  Absolutely delectable.  Thank heavens for those Romanian cows.
    2.  Steak Wrap - skip the fries and get a green salad or matzo ball soup (or cottage cheese!)  The steak is amazing and the tomatoes for some reason are just tastier when nestled in the wrap with the steak.

There are other great protein-filled dishes for the bodybuilding conscious, and several just-right bites.  Brunch is also pretty damn good.  It's a diner, so don't expect to be completely WOWED (unless you see the guy I saw last time I was there - GRRRR), but it's a diner that's a cut above many.

Also love the windows/doors that open to 8th Av during warm days.

The wife and I went on a Sunday for brunch around 3:30.  We were promptly sat upstairs because it wasn't very busy, looks like the crowd had already died down.  Our waiter was nice, he was a 6'4" tacky Eastern European guy who could hardly speak English but the service was on point.  This place has a huge diner menu but I was iffy on ordering standard diner fare as I save that for an actual diner.  We both ordered the brunch special which was pretty cheap, $13.

My wife got the oatmeal, strawberry egg-white omelet.  Interesting, it tasted pretty good but not my style.  My wife absolutely loved it.  I got the Eggs Benedict with lox and it was very good.  The hash browns were standard, nothing special.  Of course the brunch came with a drink, my wife got a mimosa which was awesome.  I got the orange juice which was good as well.  It was freshly squeezed which pulp in it.  Overall, it was a good place and we'll definitely return.  My wife wants to bring her parents here but they're old fashioned conservative types and the numerous gay couples holding hands won't sit too well with them.  I'm sure it's an awesome hangout during the summer.

With friends living a few blocks away, The Dish is a great place to dish about the hotties that frequent this establishment from Chelsea. Have been there numerous occasions for breakfast. Daddies, clones, suits, bears, muscle bears....WOOF! You see them all  :-)  This place gives the moniker "Breakfast of Champions" a whole new meaning.

In addition to lovely scenery, the food is pretty good, too. Typical breakfast fare, not better or worse than other places of similar size in the neighborhood. The service could be a bit more attentive...it took quite awhile to get coffee and our order taken.

The Dish is a welcome addition to my trips to New York!

    The brunch here is solid.

Cheap price ($11.95) and always busy - but not to the point that you've got a wait. Service is really on top of it. The mimosas are mimosa-y, the eggs are the way you order them, etc. Given that my last couple brunches were diner-grade, this was like a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice compared to something from concentrate.

I have never written a bad review.  Maybe it's the whole, "if you can't say anything nice" thing I grew up on, but this I had to share with potential customers.  Terrible customer service!!!! From the reviews I have read the food food sounds great, only I never got to try it. Over an hour had passed from the time I placed the order and the person I spoke with on the phone had said the guy came (he never did) and then was not able to find it (even though they had the cross streets). When I told him the guy never showed he said was I calling him a liar and said he did not want me as a customer.  What business says that?  Whoever is answering the phones is losing them business.

My friends referred to this place as a diner, to me more upscale then a diner and very good.  Had a party of 7 for dinner on Sunday, the last night of the Gay Pride Festival and got seating immediately and the place was pretty full.  There is a whole upstairs for dining too.

Ordered and tried many different things, I had the pork chops with spinach and sweet potato and apple sauce, had to ask for the apple sauce since it was forgotton.  The pork with the applesauce was perfect, the spinach was cooked perfectly with a little tang to it an I love the baked sweet potato.  Chose the beef barley soup, loved it, reminded me of a meaty Campbell's veggie soup.  With ice tea, mine came to around $20.  Others ordered, 2  pastas with chicken and a pasta salmon, a chicken breast with potato chip crust, excellent, better then the chicken cacciatorre another friend ordered.  All were good and ample.

Our waiter Harry had some attitude with us, he  didn't like being called Sir and promptly told us that his name was Harry...ok...

Other then our waiter, the other staff was friendly.  Street parking but found someplace only a couple of blocks away on a side street.  Tons of cute gay boys walking the streets from the Gay Pride Festival.

Hello gay men... Unfortunately we were just 3 girls going out for brunch on a rainy Sunday.

My egg white omelet with veggies was blah and for some reason didn't include any gooey cheese plus the home fries were bland potato nuggets. My friend really enjoyed her breakfast burrito but mostly because of the bacon.

Service was spotty & slow. Our main server was a tall Greek guy with the most piercing blue eyes. He's nice eye candy but not enough to get me to come back, especially when they F'ed up splitting the check between 2 credit cards.

Yes Jeff. I believe it is.
I come here pretty often for lunch on Sundays. The food is very good, they have a ton of healthy menu options which I love. All of the waiters are super friendly, they'll prepare anything to your liking, and don't rush you at all. On nice days they open the windows/doors on both levels, and although this isn't the greatest hood for people watching, its still enjoyable. If you're not living in this century and you're still a homophobe I wouldn't recommend it, but you just shouldn't be in the city if thats the case.

My friend took me here because he always raves about the brunch. We were both craving burgers when we got there--me, the veggie and him a turkey burger. The fries and bloody marys were good, but the rest of the food was uninspiring, even for a diner. The coffee is truly sad.

The veg burger was similar to a Dr. Preggers (frozen store-bought) patty, kinda floppy and mushy. It's not made of TVP like your standard Garden Burger or Boca Burger.

It was nice to sit in the upstairs, open-air front window and watch all the  activity in the Chelsea streets below. Afterwards, we walked down to the waterfront, so all in all it was a decent spot to grab grub.

Been there twice for dinner. We loved the location, the rediculously cheap prices and, of course, the food. The spinach pie that was supposed to come with soup or salad, arrived with both which was great! The split pea and clam chowder taste home made delicious. Wines come in generous portions. The waiter was professional and accomodating.....until....
Until I found a little piece of metal wire in my Beef Stoganoff pasta. I know exactly where it came from as I'm familiar with restaurant industry...so that was disappointing but didn't gross me out enough to reject the dish as it tasted good. Otherwise, the establishment would have gotten 5 stars

The turkey meatloaf was definitely worth it. Portion size was large, which I'm a big fan of, and it came with a salad and 2 sides. Was able to save some for the next day.

It wasn't the best of the best of the meatloaf I've had, but then again I'm not sure I've had turkey meatloaf before. It was pretty tasty.

Mashed potatoes were unimpressive, but the steamed broccoli was good.

I would order the meatloaf again, but not with the mashed potatoes as a side.

A tasty diner, with breakfast served all day, an extensive menu and very reasonable prices.  Even their "specialty cocktails" weren't too expensive.      Very good food for the price.  I had the Florentine vegetable salad, which was both large and good.  We were there at a weird time (10pm on a Sunday) so I can't speak with much expertise on the service, crowd, or vibe.  They did have some relatively colorful modern art on the brick walls, though, which was nice.

While looking for liquor at 6am California time in NYC (9am), The Dish appeared due to much fasting and prayer by Robert P.  We walked in this typical NY style diner and ordered mimosas.  The food was good, nothing amazing, but that is they way I like my breakfast.  Give me an omlette and an English Muffin (READ: my English Muffin Ed from Extreme Home Makeover) and I am good to go.  Oh, and a mimosa.  Service was good and with a smile.  Fair prices and pretty clean place.

The Dish is completely unremarkable, unless you can score brunch at one of the two-tops on the second floor next to the open windows overlooking 8th. Ave. For that brief meal, it's like dining on the balcony of the Casa Rosada.

I really liked this plate.  So it doesn't have tablecloths and the decor feels dinerlike I have to say the food was good.  The service was excellent.  My friend had a dinner special (which included french onion soup) of the special chicken quesadilla and it was delicious and filled with lots of white meant.  I opted for the blackened steak over ceasar and the steak was excellent.  The only thing I would have changed would have been for them to use homemade croutons instead of store boxed.  Anyhow great meal for $33.80 plus tip.
