This is by far my favorite cafe in Tahoe City.  We've been coming here for the last 4 or 5 years and I always look forward eating here.  I only wish it was closer to where we live in the bay area so I could come here more often.  I love how they cater to vegetarians (you must try the vegan-rito) yet have enough for my meat eating family.  Everyone there are super friendly and more than willing to answer any questions you may have.

Also, you must try the daily fresh baked pastries.  We had the banana bread and it was spectacular.
Can't wait for our visit next year!

Crappy coffee, bland/repetitive food, tiny over-priced (for what it is) menu. They like to burn their coffee, too, so don't expect to drink the mud until an hour after purchase. The only plus is the fresh produce - they have epic avocado.

For coffee (or pastries), go to Tahoe House. It's not that much further and it blows that Illy crap out of the water.

For food, just go to Bridgetender across the river. It'll be a buck or two more, but they actually HAVE sides and selection.  And they serve you...novel concept, I know.

For ice cream, mosey on up to Gear'N'Grind. They serve (LOCAL) Tahoe Creamery instead of that nasty soft-serve bullshit.

And: none of those other places has crappy boy-on-guitar music blasting on the speakers (SAY NO TO JOHN MAYER).

Best little cafe if Tahoe City! I can never turn down the chocolate chip cookies, they are always straight out of the oven. Coffee has always been excellent. I'm also a fan of the veggie breakfast burrito. The chai shakes are good too, but are inconsistent, sometimes its thick like a shake should be and other times its way too watery.

This place was really adorable.  Despite being packed, the staff was friendly and efficient.  I only ordered an iced coffee but was peeking at everyone's food as it came out: it looked amazing!   Fresh, healthy, delicious looking sandwiches and wraps.  The coffee was delicious.  I'll definitely keep this place in the back of my head the next time I'm up that way looking for lunch.

I've been going to the Dam Cafe for over 5 years now, and I must say that the food is better every time I eat there. The Crispy Peppered Bacon is FABULOUS on anything! Plus it's the BEST coffee I've had. The Chai Shake is to die for too!

Cool vibe - excellent coffee!!

As a Systems Engineer - I should avoid this - but I can't resist - this is the "Digital Asset Management (DAM) Cafe."

No, not really, it is so named for the fact that it sits across the street from the Lake Tahoe Dam. :-)

I highly recommend the Dam Burly Burrito...it's the best breakfast burrito I've ever had.  Just don't make the mistake I once made--I ordered 2 of them and ate them both.  The girls that work there are great too, go Jeni!

Good local coffee shop/cafe in Tahoe City. They have reasonably priced coffee, often stop here to fuel up on my rides back to the Bay Area from a weekend of boarding. Takes cash or credit/debit. Have only had the coffee and Odwalla juices but they also make sandwiches, salads, bagels. Friendly service.

I really hate hippies.  Ask anyone who knows me, and they'll tell you that I hate hippies.  Probably because every third sentence out my mouth is, "I really hate hippies."  I could be discussing why the 1980 Olympic Ice Hockey semi-final game against the Commies was the greatest game of all time, and I'll blurt out that, "I really hate hippies," right after I discuss the goaltending genius of Jim Craig.

As much as I hate hippies as a class of humans, I LOVE Dam Cafe and the assorted hippie chix who work there.  Whenever I walk in, they immediately send out a friendly greeting.  There is usually some Bob Marley playing on the sound system, and the whole atmosphere totally gets me ready to hit the slopes.  (I never come here in the summer, but I am sure that Dam Cafe gets you ready for a day on the trail or on the lake.)

I recommend both the breakfast burrito and the breakfast bagel sandwich.  Both are a tad overpriced, but where else can you get veggie sausage and smoked gouda to go with your bagel and egg sandwich?  There is an excellent selection of Odwalla juices in the cooler, which is key for me before skiing.  I like being able to choose between my B Monster or Superfood.

If you go enough times during the season, the hippie chix start remembering your usual order.  Big plus.  I still hate hippies, but I love Dam Cafe.

I'm a summer (mostly) customer at the Dam Cafe.  I second all the other reviews on the food--it's excellent, both the burritos and sandwiches are favorites of ours.

I would give the ambience 8 stars.  These folks are ALWAYS friendly and welcoming, hippies or not.  I was there this morning and the counter guy couldn't have been friendlier, with a huge smile and the kind of attitude that starts your morning off just right.

There are fresh flowers on all the tables, the outside area has flowers and is hosed off super clean in the morning.  You just get the feeling that these people really care about their business.  It's a major winner and the best place for breakfast and lunch in Tahoe City, no one else is even close.

The only downside is that it's adjacent to Truckee River rafting operations, so the traffice is pretty bad in the summer getting in and getting out.  They do have reserved spaces right in front for restaurant customers.

Centrally located in Tahoe City, this is a good place to fuel up before hitting the hills.  Not worth driving out of the way, but worth a stop if you pass by.

The Dam Cafe is the pit stop on the way to Squaw in the morning. Breakfast Burrito with your choice of meat or even go veggie if you desire. They are all good and the service greeted with a smile keeps me coming back. I think I was eatting breakfast with the entire Placer County Sheriffs department on my last visit so you know this place is good and really safe. Their hot chocolate is quite tasty too, whip cream of course, I'm coming back!

Awesome place to grab breakfast on your way to the slopes.  Conveniently located at the center of Tahoe City.  I like the breakfast sandwiches.
