So cute and yummy.
It looks like a lil' old candy shop when you walk in. Even though the Daily Scoop is mostly ice cream (duh), they do have some throwback candies to munch on, including candy button belts and Zots fizzy candies in the most desirable flavor of watermelon.
They have a perfect amount of ice cream flavors to choose from, so it's not overwhelming like some ice cream stores (my mind starts shutting down with too much of a good thing). They use Niederfrank's, if I remember correctly, so they don't make their own ice cream, but it's still made locally and very delicious. My favorite flavor to date is the Golden Pistachio, which is a really lovely, mild pistachio flavor with chunks of pineapple that kick it up a notch. The Sweet Cream and Peanut Butter is also delightful.
The real reason I come here, though, is because most days they also sell doggy ice cream. Usually in peanut butter banana flavor and dairy free, so I don't feel too guilty getting ice cream because I'm also enriching my dogs' lives. Right?
Oh, if that wasn't enough for your sweet tooth, they also sell homemade cupcakes, which you can often smell baking, and Hawaiian Ice that tastes beyond delicious in the Dragon's Blood flavor, which is actually sort of coconut-y. Only downside is it's cash only, but what's a few bucks for some happy, ice cream-filled pups? -

I came by the Daily Spoon after brunch at the Vagabond. I chatted upon arrival with the employees a bit to get the scoop on the place, pardon the pun, but I learned their goodies are either made in house of locally. Nice employees.
I ordered a sundae with the Mexican chocolate. The Mexican chocolate ice cream was great. It was not as creamy as most chocolate ice cream, but the flavor was spot on. It had the traditional flavor with the Mexican cinnamon and spice. The crushed nuts that came with the sundae were a perfect match with the flavor of the ice cream. My sundae cost $3.95.
The place is eclectic and cozy. Nice ice cream shop.

Yummy ice cream, including a flavor just for dogs? I'm a fan!
My husband and I split some of the Lemon Custard ice cream, and it was really good!
My doggies loved the pb & banana ice cream, too. :)
We'll be back!

I can't say I'm a fan. :-(
Walked in here to find that it was "CASH ONLY."
I have an issue with cash only places...
It's INCONVENIENT!
(there I said it.)
After leaving my family to wait while I walk over to the ATM, I return to find the scoop sizes underwhelming. :-(
I asked to have a taste of a certain ice cream flavor and got the tiniest dollop of ice cream on the tip of a wooden popiscle stick... a dollop so small only a "WHO" in "WHOVILLE" could appreciate (and the gal behind the counter was glaring... not smiling, not friendly.)
"Thank you miserable unsmiling gal behind ice cream counter for that taste of wooden popsicle stick...."
(thats all I could taste)
I went out of my way to get cash for this?
Maybe it was her bad day... If I actually got to taste this homemade stuff, maybe it would have made up for her bad customer service. I'll never know, cause I'll never return.
2 woofs.. Meh. I've DEFINITELY experienced better. -

As far as ice cream scoop shops go, you could do much worse than the Daily Scoop. When I walked in, the owner's friend was serenading us with her saxophone.
They source their ice cream from Niederfrank. It's good stuff, smooth without being overly rich, sweet, or sticky.
For those less creamily inclined, they have fruit sorbets (passionfruit, anyone?) and shave ice. Candies in jars, anyone?
Bring cash and people-watch while you enjoy your ice cream like the little kids here. -

For me, this place didn't do it. The ice cream tasted ok. I would have been happy getting ice cream at the grocery store because that would have tasted better than the daily scoop.

Cute little old fashion ice cream shop. Prices are reasonable for the quality; they sell only all natural ice creams. I got a single scoop of kahlua crunch which seemed more like 3 scoops for 3 bucks on a sugar cone (without paying extra for it, either). It had a great coffee flavor but with a light texture and taste to it. Nothing like Cold Stones, which has that richer "cream" texture and heavier taste.
They do all sorts: sundaes, floats, banana splits..pretty much whatever you're desiring. I noticed they also had huge cupcakes for sale on their counter top. But what I thought was the cutest thing about this place is that they serve doggy ice cream... and it's all natural, too.
As soon as I put down that little cup of ice cream in front of Reese, he was quick to devour it. No doubt by the wag on his tail, he thoroughly enjoyed it just as much as I did mine. -

I love Daily Scoop's ambience and decor, and the ice cream etc. is always good, albeit expensive.
It is also CASH ONLY like much of South Park. -
Review from Amy S.
After an evening filled with house ware shopping, an ice cream craving came about. A quick thought to what the ice cream situation was like in the freezer came up with another thing to add to the grocery list, The Daily Scoop popped into my mind and came to the rescue!
Walking in the only thing that made me upset was it is cash only. I get they are a little independent ice cream place, but the card convenience would have been awesome. Luckily, I had four bucks on me from my last trip to Sicilian Thing. In the midst of being bitter bus on the cash, I'm thankful that Scoop's low prices cleared out the lingering bills in my wallet that are never quite enough to really buy anything with. A new tradition for me perhaps!
Kaluaha Krunch was an obvious choice and a single scoop cone of it was plenty to share satisfying my craving ever so perfectly.
The girl working here was really nice and there is plenty of seating to enjoy one of their delicious treats!

This is a little ice cream shop in south park. The lady behind the counter was so friendly and helpful since it was my first time. I sampled the cantaloupe ice cream was light and fresh tasting. I ended up getting the brownies and cream and it was beyond fantastic! It tasted rich, creamy and buttery at the same time. The closes thing to the ice cream I had when I was in Italy. You can def taste the love in it.

I have no sweet tooth....but the minute I get a craving, I just can't stop myself....
We found ourselves wandering through South Park and luckily for my taste bud's sake, I got a hankering for some ice cream. I love that they have the key staples but also had some cool funky flavors. I recommend their pistachio and Almond Joy flavors-they were spectacular! The scoops were huge and they had quite a few tables so we ended up just chatting it up for a n hour or so. Really great spot to stop into if you are looking for something just a bit off the beaten path and South Park has some great finds to offer. Grab a cone and take a stroll....You won't regret it! -

Good ice cream, but the biggie here is the red velvet cupcakes. They're the best I've ever had! My wife is obsessed with them and demands a cupcake on a weekly basis :)

Yay! This place is so cute and has such tasty ice cream! We were in south park at Full Circle's new location, and were craving ice cream afterwards.
It was crowded with kids, and only 1 girl was working, but it's Sunday afternoon, so we weren't in a rush.
I got a scoop of red mint chip (basically more peppermint than normal mint chip) on a sugar cone. Yummmmm!!! The cone was fresh, and the ice cream was natural and delicious.
The fiance got sorbet (passion fruit and raspberry). The raspberry wasn't super tasty to me, but the passion fruit was SO GOOD! So light and fruity!
I'm a huge fan, and it's a really cute homey type business, so I'll definitely be back.
Ps. They have "dog scream" for your furry friend. That puts them a notch above awesome, because I LOVE my puppy. Yay for dog loving businesses!!! -

When I lived on the east coast, there were many things didn't make sense to me...getting ones car washed (it's only going to rain tomorrow, no matter the season), people's taste for, nay obsession, with budlite/millerlite/coorslite, and stores that sold cold treats from October-May (there are only a couple months when it feels good to eat something freezing). Fortunately in San Diego, things make more sense to me...I wash my car because it will be sunny for the next 3 months, I drink cask beer from my local nanobrewery cause it's damn good, and I eat ice cream ALL YEAR ROUND. The Daily Scoop hits the spot with excellent flavors to choose from and a decent price that won't break the bank. I love this spot and love their ice cream.

A monkey could run a profitable ice cream shoppe in this location. Seriously, all they have to do is put in a wee bit of effort, and they'll have a line out the door every day. I think the owners are just lazy or not very sophisticated about running a business.
Anyway, here's my snapshot:
Pros:
great ice cream
interesting flavors, all very good
location rocks- walking distance from my house, right on the corner of a business district with lots of restaurants, craploads of foot traffic going by all day every day
Cons:
Staff seems annoyed that you're there, especially if you bring your kids in (really, honey? It's ICE CREAM! what demographic were you expecting??)
Cash only (this is 2011, and you ain't driving a truck with a bell. Stop being so cheap and get a freaking merchant account so your customers don't have to walk their toddler across the street to the ATM inside the liquor store, mkay? I promise your sales will increase)
Hours are a joke, they are never open when people actually want ice cream (e.g. after dinner at one of the restaurants)
Interior decor looks half-*ssed, like they brought stuff from home or picked it up at a garage sale (unfinished concrete floor, rickety little tables with cheap homemade arts and crafts for sale, etc.)

The young girl that works there is just horrible...I think that I may have interrupted her book reading when i came in to order my icecream.
Dont expect a smile or "thanks come again!!!"

So I am writing t his review becos teh Yelps told me to do so. Great ice cream and it is honestly sheer entertainment watching the parents get their kids all hyped up on sugar and then letting the loose on the surroundings.
My favorite is the peanut butter cream ice cream! I am not a big sweet fan but I really, really enjoy coming to this place about once a month for some tasty gooey carbs.
Well Yelps that is my review. The End -

It's a definitely cute location that has ice cream, shaved ice, and cupcakes which are a in thing right now. They also sell some candies and jewelry/clothing produced by neighborhood artists. Their flavors are exclusive (& delicious) and go well when paired with a red velvet cupcake. Definitely one of my favorite ice cream shops!

On my day of reflection I decided I had to make a trip out to get ice cream from here. I was kinda bummed because a few flavors I wanted to try were not there. It was a random Tuesday afternoon too so I guess they just didn't get their shipment in.
The banana was yummy so we ended up getting sundaes lots of hot fudge and who can forget the whipped cream! mmm
The best part was her little helper a sweet puppy who was super stealth behind the counter we would have never known he was there if she didn't tell us. The owner was having a rough day with a cocoa mishap but after sharing a bit of our drama she showed us her little love who's name I can't remember : ( but he brightened up our day. Thank you Daily Scoop! -

Cute little old style ice cream shop in the South park neighborhood. I've been there once and had the Mexican chocolate - which was delicious! It was my first time trying Mexican chocolate and I loved it.
Just wish this place was open later - especially on the weekends. Beware they do not take credit cards. -

OK, so they serve Neidermeyer's ice cream. This would be a 5 star review if they made their own and it was organic instead of "all natural" but the ice cream was good, and the cones are free.
However, they do make their own cupcakes and the red velvet cupcake IS worth all the hype. I have never had a fresher more cakey cupcake in my life. It was the perfect texture, taste, and color. The cream cheese frosting was delightful as well - not too sweet or heavy.
Make the drive to South Park just for this cupcake. It's totally worth it. Don't expect some monstrous cupcake either or some crazy fancy packaging. This place is simple but it does simple extratrordinarily. They do take CC's. -

YUM! Delicious Niederfrank's ice cream, which is made in National City, served up in a cone or a cup. I had the peanut butter and chocolate flavor, which is super creamy and delicious. I hit up the shop at the last South Park Walk-About and it was very, very hectic with the crowd. But the staff was super nice and attentive and got people in and out as quickly as possible.
Eat your ice cream here. You will love it!!!Listed in: Sweetness

Amazingly tasty homemade ice cream. I always hit this place up after I have dinner at Station Tavern and Burgers....a great combination, I know. The ice cream is the shiz though....and I don't use that term lightly. The only downfall is they only accept cash which has gotten more than a couple of times as I don't usually carry it. When I don't get dessert, I die a little inside. Perhaps I could barter for services.

Went here with the boyfriend. He got the blackberry ice cream sundae and I got the Hawaiian Shave Ice. Ever since visiting Hawaii in April, I'm still on the hunt to find comparable shave ice to what I had on Maui. The shave ice here was alright. Despite it actually being crushed ice instead of shaving a block of ice, the texture was good. I had the cherry syrup which seemed pretty mediocre. They do however give you a very decent amount of syrup. At no point was I eating just plain ice. The boyfriend said the sundae was tasty. The whip cream was really good, the ice cream was good, but the hot fudge just came from a warm bottle. I think I may go here again if I were in the area, but I certainly wouldn't drive out of way to come here and I think I'll try an ice cream next time. The shave ice just wasn't very good.

I remember coming here and trying the Chardonney ice cream, fell in love. many different flavors all home made. The cheesecake blueberry is a must.
Decor is very old fashioned which i wish my house would look like that. lol great place for dessert after a good meal at El Camino. Great location. -

Lemon ice cream is delicious. Seriously. Eat it.
This place, however, is overpriced and their service is lame. The ice cream scooper person looked like she couldn't be bothered and just wanted to gtfo. It's unfortunate cause her dour demeanor kinda brought down the friendliness of the interior and the delicious-looking ice cream. -

Love this shop!
Red Mint Chip and the Mexican chocolate are my personal picks, especially when combined in a banana split. Everything I've tried has been pretty great, though the ice cream cookie sandwiches seem like they could be better (maybe by using a different ice cream?).
Friendly and quick service, reasonable prices, pleasant atmosphere, plenty of seating.
"Cash only" is a problem for some, but not for me.
I'll continue coming back, again and again! -

We came in here at the last minute one night. The person working seemed a bit annoyed to have more customers. So we ordered fast. The ice cream was good but the clerk got ice cream all over the cup. It was sticky.

I don't know why my family and I keep going back here... like others say, the employees attitudes suck! "Enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" my a**.... The ice cream is pretty good, but it's ruined by whatever hipster is working the counter that day.

This is one of those rare nonchain ice cream places.
The flavors are good. I sampled their Mexican chocolate, lemon something, and something berry. It's creamy, but the ice cream doesn't have a smooth consistency. There are bits of ice crystals embedded in their ice cream.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The ice cream is very good, but the service needs improvement. Also, when The Daily Scoop was new and over next to Luigi's they were supposed to carry newspapers and magazines. It was a cool concept. Then they took over the space where M-Theory used to be, a space much larger than the old shop, and still, no magazines, no newspapers. That space is far too valuable to be used the way the have it set up. The entire back half is wasted with a constantly "out of order" bathroom, random stuffed animals and other assorted stuff for sale.
Hey Scoop! Make good use of the prime location already, willya?
Plus, cash only? C'mon... -

On our way home from Citizen Video, I spotted a large sign that read: "Homemade Cupcakes."
"HOMEMADE CUPCAKES?!?" I yelled. "PULL OVER!" Tires screeched and smoked as we came to a dramatic and halting stop in the middle of the street. I sprinted in at top speed and, gasping for breath, asked hopefully, "Do you really have HOMEMADE CUPCAKES?" A kindly woman smiled at me, "Indeed we do. I was just frosting up some red velvet HOMEMADE CUPCAKES. Would you like one?"
"Make it two! Two HOMEMADE CUPCAKES!" I squealed enthusiastically.
Seven dollars later I was chomping down 1 and 1/2 of the best damn HOMEMADE CUPCAKES I ever tasted (I let my companion have only one half of a cupcake. Begrudgingly).
I don't know about their ice cream, but hot damn! those are some fine HOMEMADE CUPCAKES.

Every single time I go visit my sister, I pass by this cute little place with the sign announcing homemade cupcakes. I have a deep love for sweets, so every single time I pass by, this place entices me with with its sugary sweet evilness.
On Halloween, my sister and I decided to detour and stop by The Daily Scoop before making our way to the Whistle Stop. So I tried to be good all day by not eating sweets. I am trying to cut down :( Unfortunately, every fricken friend I ran into that day tried to give me candy. Wtf, why was everyone trying to conspire against me?
Either way, I am glad we stopped by. The lady in the front (Elisa) was so nice and we talked as I noticed the Yelp sticker on her window. She was super sweet and let me savor some ice cream before making my choice--- Chocolate Mexicano. It was sooo good, I don't care I paid like 3 bucks for one scoop.
Well, we noticed the cupcakes too. They were there in the back, just begging to be eaten. Damn them....and damn the Daily Scoop, too. They had my favorite--- Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Frosting. Why would the torture me like that?
So I gave in and got the cupcake too. I wanted to feel better about myself and share the cupcake with my sister....but she wasn't having it. She wanted her own. We may not look alike, but we sure as hell have the same love for chocolate and sweets.
We finally sat down in a cute little table by the window and ate our ice creams, and yes, cupcakes too. Being bad never felt so good.
I am surprised I didn't get sick with the combination of ice cream, cupcakes and beer in my tummy. I am glad too, that would NOT have been pretty.Listed in: Sugar-gasm

To commemorate my ROTD, Marisol, Bill, Nick T. and I went to The Daily Scoop for some cupcakes..CAAAAAHPCEEEEKS
My eyes widened with glee. And they all laughed at me because I became excited to have my cupcake.
The lady working (apparently I'm bad with names too) told us that Ruggy/HQ called them to tell them they got ROTD, neato.
And Marisol had to point out it was my review.
Damnit.
First Marisol was just going to get two cupcakes, one for her and one for me. Make that a dozen..seriously? No really she wanted 6, but said a dozen at first.
Some girl after us got the rest of the Red Velvet Cupcakes.
And so they were left with empty cases.
I sampled a bit of the ice cream, which is all Hand-made by niederfranks, that's neat as well.
Best cupcakes in San Diego, quite possibly.
And the workers aren't bad either; friendly and patient if you're indecisive.1 Previous Review: Show all »
