This place has been here awhile, as I have had lunch here a couple of times.  Since I am only in the Springs about once a year, that makes it....at least two years old and probably much older as I used to live in the Springs.  Was it there then?  I can't recall.

The first time it was quiet but I was probably late for lunch.  Nice food, nice small restaurant.  The second time I looked forward to returning, and was worried it might not be open or be there.  Not disappointed, but the clientele was a bit dressier that time.  Hopefully it won't be too packed for this year's visit.    Food is good, but atmosphere is also important.

The owner tells me they have only been open a year....so I guess I get to the Springs more often than I think.

Hum...feel a little torn within on how to review this place.  The service was pleasant and the bathroom was clean...there's only one bathroom but they do have a changing table for infants so it is family friendly.  The owner asked if we found the restaurant through yelp...will she read my review?

Dining room consists of only 8 tables (no booths) and you can hear ethnic Sri Lankan music being played.  Funny thing, for all the high reviews, there was only one other couple eating here...and at 7pm on a Friday at that.

Food:

Sampler appetizer plate consisted of 2 cutlets, 2 beef rolls, and 2 vegetarian pastries...the beef rolls were good but I didn't care much for the other two.  One of the "beef rolls" had only vegetables in it.  Go figure.  I would definitely recommend just getting the beef sri lankan rolls.

Coconut roti was kinda bland and not really worth 6.95 (3 pieces)...I kept comparing it to the naan you would find at indian restaurants and kept on getting disappointed (this is sri lankan).

We ordered two combinations...chicken with potatoes and the beef with dahl (lentils) curry.  Beef was too salty and the chicken was overcooked and dryer than I expected.  The curry sauce the chicken was in was delicious though, but with overcooked chicken breast, it's hard to forgive.  The vegetable dishes were good though.

Total damage for everthing was 38 bucks...not a bad place to visit but not something IMO that is a must eat.

The Curry Leaf is Colorado's best kept secret among Asian restaurant. No contest!

They serve the most spectacular tasting, outstandingly authentic curries I have ever had in the United States.  I drove all the way from Boulder to try their Sri Lankan cuisine I was not disappointed.

I have spent time in Sri Lanka and I can confirm that this food is quite authentic and unaltered for American tastes. The rice and curry you get there is E-X-A-C-T-L-Y  what you'd be getting at a nice restaurant or at a good cook's  home meal in Kandy or Columbo. This is the Real Deal.

The restaurant decor is simple, the owner was nice, the dining atmosphere was casual - but the food was outstanding. It left me in awe - complex flavor fractals dancing around my mouth - a slight sweat on the forehead from the spice - and me just wanting to say "WOW!" out loud. I literally applauded when the server brought me the check.

I tried the chicken curry, dahl, coconut sambol (highly recommended) - and loved it so much I had to order eggplant curry  and more coconut sambol to take home for the rest of the week. I haven't eaten anything so good since I was in Sri Lanka - and I will be making the drive back from Boulder for special occasions.

I love Yelp so much - it helps me find places like The Curry Leaf, right under my nose. I stopped by The Curry Leaf for some take out lunch after reading the reviews and was so elated. The owner warmly greeted me and was happy to hear I had come in based on the reviews, so let me pick a sample of an extra dish to try with my order. I left with some warm rice, a combination plate of chicken curry and dahl curry (lentils), and a sample of the deviled potatoes that I was eyeing on the menu while making my decision. All three dishes were lovely with such a comforting and unique heat - just delicious. I have plenty of leftovers for dinner, so I'll eat happy tonight as well.

Had to change my review to five stars. I realized this is one of my favorite places to eat in the Springs.  The appetizer platter is delicious. I have to say that my favorite is the beef roll.  It's crispy outside coating (cornmeal maybe?) and gorgeous ground beef filling is wonderful. When it comes to my main reason for going to The Curry Leaf, though, it is definitely the deviled beef. It is SO GOOD. Spicy and salty and delicious with onion and peppers-so amazingly good. Don't forget the coconut roti either-especially good dipped in the curried potatoes. The coconut curry sauce the potatoes are in plays wonderfully off the dense, chewy, smoky flavor of the roti.
I choose my desserts depending on the weather. If it's hot then I choose the chocolate Marie pudding. It is an awesome, light chocolate mousse dusted with cocoa powder and covered with chocolate sauce. There are also cookies (or biscuits, depending on where you're from) in the mousse. It is SOOO good. The cookies soften up and absorb some of the moisture from the mousse, kind of like vanilla wafers in banana pudding (and everyone knows the whole point of banana pudding is the cookies in it).
If it's warm, I choose the Island Cake. It's super-moist, puddingey cake made with coconut and pineapple topped with caramel and coconut, and it's served warm. So good on a chilly evening!
Other good things to try are the dahl curry and the eggplant curry, both recommended to us by the owner (who is such a nice lady, and really fun to talk to). The eggplant is nice and dark and spicy with a nice sweet hit to it. If you're into sweet/hot combos then you should definitely try the eggplant curry.
I can't wait to go back, my mouth is ready for some fire from the devilled beef already!

Yeah, if you want your spicy food come here.

Technically this place is Sri Lankan, not Indian, and so the fare is markedly different, although still exceptional and authentic. Some of the menu choices are bizarre, including charging $4 for parathas (most Indian restaurants hand them out free of charge).

I ordered the chicken curry - spicy - and it was excellent. Different than a traditional Indian curry - different spices, somewhat drier, and definitely a nice burn going on. The owner treated me to a small dish of the lentils - and you have *GOT* to order the lentils - they are fabulously delicious. I also had some of their vegetarian fried pastries. Of you've had samosas, these are not at all like samosas. There's a slight French influence to Sri Lankan cooking apparently, and it shows up here in the pastries which seem to be more a crepe rolled and deep fried than an actual dough pastry. Still, excellent fare, and the price was more than fair.

Find this restaurant and experience the unique and tasty cuisine.

First off, let me state I am no expert in Indian food or Sri Lankan food for that matter. But if it tastes good and the place makes me want to go back, then I am all for it. With that said...

Nice little place with about 10 tables. I really like how the windows add a lot of light to the restaurant.  The waitress was very helpful and attentive. I ordered the Beef Curry dish with the potato curry also. The Potato curry was bright yellow and very good. Just the right amount of food for me (at first I thought i looked like a rather small portion, but one I started eating, I realized it was just right). The beef curry was nice and spicy, and both had a wonderful flavor. Rice was white and good for the meal (I drowned it in the Beef curry anyway).

Cons: I ordered hot tea for my drink, and was surprised to have a tea bag (black tea, fair trade). Also, the water for the tea came in a coffee cup. I would have loved to have real tea and the pot for the table. Nothing like boiling hot water and real tea. But, a minor thing I know....no points deducted. The waitress asked me a few times if I wanted more hot water, so that was plus. Would have liked to seen a tea pot, steaming hot water and maybe been offered cream (I know, most Americans dont drink it like that, but hey....).

I was the only one in and stayed about 45 minutes (lunch, around 11:10am).  Food was yummy, seemed fresh and I will go back to try more. The sampler sounds good next time. And dessert...

Good decor, bright and airy. Nice soft mood music, but still upbeat.

Yummy!  Probably the best curry I've had in the States.

The Curry Leaf is a Sri Lankan, not Indian, restaurant.  So the spices are slightly different than traditional Indian food, but very very good.  The Curry Leaf is owned and run by a pair of sisters, they take orders, run the kitchen and bus the tables.  Both very nice ladies.  It is a small place, maybe 8 tables, with Sri Lankan pictures and crafts dotting the walls.

The place was PACKED on this Friday, so I got my Chicken Curry combo to go.  The combo comes with rice and a choice of veggie entree, I chose the curried green beans.  I also got a Sri Lankan Iced Coffee.  The chicken was excellent, spicy, but not too hot and flavorful, the green beans were OK, not my favorite, but the coffee was to die for, not sure what is in it, but it is excellent.

I will be going back, it is so nice to have a good, no make that a great curry place in town.

I heard through the grapevine that there is an Indian couple in Denver that make the drive down just to eat here.  The couple says that most curry in the US has been American-ized, but that The Curry Leaf reminds them of home.  You can't get a better compliment than that.

Bon Appetite...

It was wonderful to find something so special here in Colorado Springs.  We got the appetizer sampler, and that was tasty.  The chili sauce is sweet and tangy and spicy, and all three of the appetizers were tasty.  I'm particular about how/if I'll eat fish, and still enjoyed the fish patties (pleasantly fishy, and that's not something I say much), and I also enjoyed the flakes of fish in the cucumber salad.  I had the dhal and the beef curry, they were both delicious!  The dhal was creamy, well-spiced and earthy, and the beef curry also had a lovely earthy flavor along with a nice jolt of heat.  Similar to Indian, but uniquely different, in a good way.  I think we're really lucky to have this place here, and really enjoyed my meal.

As somebody who eats a lot of good Indian food and has also eaten a fair bit of food in Sri Lanka, I was a little surprised when one of the owners suggested that we order green beans and chicken curry. I was expecting something humdrum and was unprepared for how different this was from standard (N.) Indian buffet fare. (Try the fish patties too!) The coconut, curry leaf, and maldi fish make each dish taste authentically Sri Lankan, as opposed to Indian. I'm hoping that they'll start making hoppers (appa) soon, because I miss eating them. I am amazed that we have a fantastic Sri Lankan place in the Springs and have recommended this restaurant to a number of my friends.

This was my first time having Sri Lankan food, so I have no idea how authentic it is.  But if you like spicy Indian curries, you will probably like this.  Try one of the unusual salads on the side, they are small and pretty cheap and spicy and good.

The place is pretty plain, so I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could, but I think the food was a pretty good value, so I'm rounding up to 5.

The entrees there are pretty good. The aloo dish was a little bland. The real treasure here is the appetizers. Great for a vegetarian date.

This place is great! My fiance's family is from Sri Lanka and this food is definitely authentic. The owner was as friendly as could be and the food was delicious. We went for lunch and the pricing was very reasonable. I can assure you we will be going to this place frequently. I can't wait for her to start making string hoppers! I really enjoyed the salmon, my fiance loved the Dahl. Definitely get the coconut sambol, it's like a spicy, curried coconut condiment. Definitely adds kick to your dish!
