Review from Alison C.
My colleagues and I decided to order delivery from The Cupping Room Cafe, though we were certainly taken aback by the ridiculously high prices. Our order took quite some time to arrive, as well.
However, my Grilled Portobello Mushroom platter was absolutely delicious. The large cap was served over a pile of mixed greens, to which I had added sliced tomatoes. Their Frozen LemonNanna was the perfect treat to refresh my tired work nerves.
Even though there was a communal sense of delight in terms of the food, our high tab put this restaurant on the office's Do Not Order List....bummer! -

Anyone knows that when your best friend is going through a breakup, your job description clearly states that you must keep her busy ... and that good food goes a loooong way. When I found myself in this situation a week ago, I quickly turned to Yelp to find the perfect brunch spot to cheer her up despite the circumstances.
Though I had a bit of difficulty finding it (WEST Broadway, not Broadway!), the Cupping Room pleasantly surprised me. The place was busy but not crammed and had an open, airy feel to it - we actually had room to walk without bumping into other tables when leaving. Both the manager and the server went out of their way to be attentive and friendly.
The menu had decent options, but as someone who hates ham / bacon / Canadian bacon, "Orren's Benedict Bar" jumped right out at me. Poached eggs, English muffin, and anything I so desired in the middle? How perfect! I couldn't decide between the avocado and the salmon (particularly because the salmon would make this benny cost $20!), but as the server put it, choosing both would allow me to grub on my "favorite sushi roll at brunch." Sold!
The benedicts (we both ordered one) arrived and looked delicious. The large portion (the salmon alone could have been my dinner) and side salad almost justified the price tag. Unfortunately, the presentation did not live up to the taste. Cutting into the egg, imagine the horror when - much to my dismay! - the yolk did not run. It just sat there, overcooked and solid as the English muffin stayed dry. Sigh. I moved on to egg #2, but found the same problem. Double sigh. At this price and with mediocre food, I probably won't return. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to adding the Cupping Room to the regular rotation. -

Hm, I'm pretty neutral about this place for now.
My family and I had dinner here last night and it was okay. The pita bread, hummus and spicy tomatoes were a nice start to the meal - Particularly the pita. The fountain sodas are good. I had the Penne ala Vodka with grilled chicken... I ate it, but wasn't especially impressed. Once again, it was simply OKAY. The vodka sauce was a little bland and the penne a tad on the soft side. The meal happened to be better the next day as leftovers.
My brother went the simple route - Chicken tenders, but who could really complain about that? My mother had the CRC Open Faced Sandwich, she said it was good. It looked okay, but I wasn't interested in trying it.
The service was also ordinary. Not bad, but not great. Decent, I guess.
The artworks on the wall were a nice touch to the meal, I guess.
Their drink menu was not the least bit exciting, so I didn't even bother ordering a cocktail, which I had originally planned to do before arriving. Oh well. The desserts looked pretty good though. I'd probably give one of them a try on the next go.
I've read that brunch here tends to be a much better dining experience, so I just might give it that second chance, since it didn't completely disappoint me. -

It's a quaint spot that can be easily missed if you're not paying attention. At least I did. Note to newcomers: there are TWO entrances, one off Broome and the other of Broadway. If you're meeting someone, I'd walk the length of the L-shaped restaurant (or maybe it's more of a T?) to find your party nestled near the opposite entrance.
My party chose trans-Siberia at the end of long, dark wood bar and away from the rest of the restaurant patrons. Maybe that's why it took them 20 minutes to get our water? Once the bartender realized that the server claimed our table then forgot about us in no-man's land, he took over and serviced us with the patience of a gentlemen and went out of his way to indulge our silly demands. For instance, he tracked down a head of celery to provide us with a single stalk so that my friend could do her best panda expression.
Brunch is served into the hours of the afternoon with good portions. The french toast is divine, though the hollandaise and the eggs florentine is just mildly flavored.
Food may or may not satisfy you, but the space is quaint and charming enough to entice you to come back, even if it's just for a cup of tea. -

I went for brunch and you can keep it! Service could easily have been better, the food was nothing special at all and I've had way better bloody marys. I read some amazing reviews prior and had to recheck that I was in the proper place.

Every time I've eaten dinner here the food was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I loved their grilled mahi mahi and vegetables. The menu is ordinary, but very good. I like it because it's been consistently a good experience. They also have live entertainment, such as Irish music and dancing, and that's always a plus.

I used to come to Cupping Room regularly and would force others to dine with me there so that I could enjoy their DELICIOUS home-made veggie burger (with pesto mayo, yum!). The staff is usually slow to take your order and the prices are a bit steep, but I thought it worth it in the end.
Unfortunately, my brunch experiences here have changed my mind. Depending on what time you arrive, you may be subjected to an absurd wait time. Also, depending on where they seat you you are liable to be forgotten for the better part of your meal. I was recently seated by the front window--- which I would advise against. The bartender waits on the two tables by the front door/window. He took our order and that was the last I saw of him- so, no drink refills and it took entirely too long to get the check. I must sound incredibly childish here, but I felt left out at my untended table... looking at all the happy people in the main dining room with their overflowing mimosas and hot coffee. Fie!
Sorry, Cupping Room... you're done. This hungry traveler is off to find another lunch spot! -

My husband and I stopped by this place hoping for a quick drink and bite to eat. We ordered a bloody mary, a beer and two burgers after debating whether or not to eat at all since every item on the menu was ridiculously overpriced. I mean, an omelette for $14? I know this is (almost) Soho, but come on. We're talking eggs here. Our burgers, $14 each, were worse than mediocre. In fact, the chef didn't even conceal the fact that they were prepared from pre-packaged beef patties. They just looked sad and tasted, well, sadder.
The service was terrible. Our hipster waiter with his hipster hat had no manners or sense of what skills are required of a waiter. Like taking the plates when the patrons are finished with their meal or offering to bring the check. In fact, the check only appeared as we had gotten up, put our coats on and were pretty much ready to leave.
Oh, and this place has been here for a while. It's a little disconcerting that their health grade is still pending. -

The interior design was pretty nice. They happened to have some very odd paintings on the wall...almost disturbing.
The food was pretty good. The coffee was awful. I think it is overpriced overall.
I will probably never go back to this place. -

Decor and feel is quaint. I could easily spend all day having a cup of tea.
Food is terrible.
I ordered a simple ceaser salad w chicken... the dressing was so poorly made; it tasted burnt and fishy; i had to wipe off the dressing to eat the food.
My friend got the yogurt granola dish I really wanted. It looked edible but nothing fancy, granola nuts and berries... I thought it could have been presented better since dried or fresh fruits give lots of color... the nuts they chose were rediculous (peanuts? really?)
Really this is just a nice coffee house...
Just come here for a cup of tea and a hidden place. -

Came here with a deal from scoutmob - 50% off your bill!
Customizable eggs benedict: standard 2 poached eggs on an english muffin w/ hollandaise sauce. I "customized" mine by adding avocado (extra $3.95). They basically halved a whole avocado and placed an egg in the hole of each half (photo appended). It would have been a fantastic idea if the avocado was more ripe (the one I had was slightly hard). The dish came w/ your choice of home fries, french fries, and salad. I had the home fries, which were very well done and seasoned.
Southern mix waffles: it comes w/ pure Vermont syrup, which really made the meal for me. The waffle is a very thin (like lego-my-ego thin), not crispy but not too soft either.
This place overall would not have been worth the normal price, but w/ the scoutmob coupon, I give it 3 stars. -

Tried this place on a whim while waiting for my apple appointment. Eggs Benedict was amazing. Home fries had a lot of flavor -- unions, peppers, and bacon. Fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil on focaccia was also very good. Friendly wait staff and free cookies with yelp check in. Cool ambience and good music.

I dont know if there is much more to say than that my sister and I got food poisoning here. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger while we made the mistake of ordering eggs benedict after noon. It tasted OK, nothing special, but about 15 minutes after we left the restaurant my sister and I both started have severe stomach pains. Not a fun afternoon.
We spent waay to much money here to get sick. Very disapointing as we were on vacation and had a day ruined. -

I was thoroughly disappointed in this place. How unfortunate...
I walked by it one day and thought that I found a hidden gem in the touristy neighborhood - WRONG!
It's turned out to be a major tourist trap: expensive, small portion, crappy food.
I wont go back. -

My colleague suggested this place for a brunch we wanted to have with another ex-colleague of ours. I made the reservations for Saturday brunch.
It's a cute venue which seated us promptly (plus 1 for ambiance). The brunch menu has a wide variety of brunch options to choose from which was great. My colleagues opted for omelets while I choose the eggs florentine. While the prices seemed on the higher end and the plates are smaller than most eating establishments, looks are definitely deceiving and the we were all definitely stuffed by the end.
The food was excellent, the coffee was constantly flowing, and they have a full bar for brunch cocktails if you so choose.
The food also came out really quickly which was another plus.
While this isn't one of those bottomless brunch spots, it's definitely one on my rotational brunch list now, and highly recommend it to others. -

Only been here once, had the portobello mushroom salad and it was to die for. They wouldn't give me the recipe for the marinade, so I guess I'll have to go back!

Food was fabulous (a little overpriced, but great taste). I went there with two of my friends and a TENKA deal, so I got a whole lot of food for less than the original. I don't think I would go there at a normally priced meal, but with a deal it was worth it.
Great decor and ambiance, cute brick walls and a great place to go with friends. Besides the price, which I wasn't a fan of considering everything, I think its definitely a go-to. Although we skipped dessert, it looked delicious so must try (and tell me how it was).
The fish (which is all we ate- salmon, trout, tuna) was AMAZING. The tuna was some of the best I've had (and I'm not a fan). For those who love bread baskets, the starter of pita was fresh and the olive tepenada was yumm. Also I hear its great for breakfast, so I must go back. -

To be honest there aren't a lot of sit down breakfast joints in soho/tribeca area (besides Starbucks and Au Bon Pain). I had coffee, juice, Eggs with Ricotta, tomatoes and spinach and a side of fruit. It was tasty just a little pricey but it is the area. It is a really cute quite place, and servers were nice and quick.

I had dinner with a group of nine. The food, service and atmosphere were absolutely perfect. Being an ahi tuna connoisseur it took the delight of the dish to new heights for me. Our server was absolutely perfect. He steered us to the best wines and dishes. A benchmark for service in the future. The jazz band was a cut above average - real, real good. Dinner at the Cupping Room Cafe during our last night in NY made it a truly memorable experience. Thanks Cupping Room!

I stopped into the Cupping Room Cafe on my lunch break thinking that it was just a small coffee shop. I was surprised to see that there was a big restaurant in there!
The food was really good. I had a grilled Portobello mushroom over greens and my colleagues (who were freshly off the plane from Japan and were excited to try their first "American runchie") all ordered classic burgers and sandwiches, which quickly disappeared off their plates as they chewed and proclaimed "Oishi!" I really liked this spot and although it's a little too pricy for me to come back regularly for lunch, I definitely need to try it sometime for dinner or brunch or happy hour. Our server was super nice too, which makes me even more likely to head back! -

If you're looking for a safe choice in the vicinity of SoHo, where the emphasis is placed more on shopping and not as much on food, Cupping Room is a great place to drop in for an earlier brunch. I stress earlier because by 10:45am, the masses of 40 year olds, both men and women who wake up earlier than their 20 or 30 year old counterparts, flood the scene.
I wasn't too excited about the menu as they offer the standard fare of omelettes, french toast, and pancakes. There was no surprise of the interplay of ingredients, the cooking and presentation style, nor the price. I will say that they don't skimp on cheese, where you'll find a thick and savory slice folded twice and tucked into your egg. The chicken sausage reminded me somewhat of a falafel, in both its appearance and texture, a round ball of ground meat as opposed to the usual link. Carbohydrate fiends take note that toast is not served with the omelette entree.
Service is slow just due to sheer numbers, so be prepared to play Where's Waldo with your server.Listed in: Brunch to your heart's…

SO disappointing. We had a ScoutMob coupon for 50% off here so we decided to just pop in for a quick bite. Most blah food ever.
Burger- asked for medium rare and got well done. wow fail. How do you mess up a burger?!
Monkfish with Saffron Risotto- sounded so good when the waiter mentioned it as a special but the fish was tasteless and the "risotto" just tasted like spanish rice.
So glad I had 50% off- I would never pay full price to eat here. -
Review from Jess K.
Very friendly atmosphere, the hosts are so welcoming...seated right away, if you check in on foursquare you get free cookie...airy dining space, lots of natural sunlight, smiling faces, and typical, brunch chatter.
I ordered the House Special Omelette with Jarlsberg cheese and mushrooms and delectable hash browns, all cooked perfectly and overall, very filling brunch fare. It satiates the appetite, nothing out of the ordinary, but a nice restaurant to go and be seen and in the heart of SoHo.
My friends who ordered the salads were surprised when they were served over-sized bowls filled with greens, lettuce, chicken breasts, etc... so when ordering a salad, while a healthier choice, not for the faint of heart.
I would go back if someone wanted to meet there, it's nice to walk around the shops and galleries after. -

Despite the slightly inappropriate-sounding name, my friends and I came here for their $18.95 pre-fixe dinner. It wasn't the fanciest pre-fixe (don't be deceived by the French term... I was shocked to find that not all French things are fancy), but it had salad or soup, a selection of one of four entrees, and ice cream with a brownie for dessert.
The swordfish entree was absolutely delicious! Perfectly cooked, moist, seasoned... just what it should be. It was definitely the star of the show, and well worth the price for all that the meal included.
The ambiance is unique and fun to look at, the bathrooms are teeny-tiny (if the ceiling were a bit lower I would feel like a big giant in a village of tiny people), and service is friendly. -

My time here was brief.
I had two decent glasses of house wine for a very reasonable $5.00
The place was a bit chaotic since a football game had ended and speed dating event was taking place.
(Those things scary me. How do you sell yourself in 3 minutes ? I wouldn't date me based on 3 minutes).
I would return and would recommend you check it out if you need a drink in the area.
Besides reasonable prices and space, currently the artwork of yelper Mo. P ( http://www.marysiaschu...) is on display through out the cafe and it's well worth checking out. I dig it , you may also.

I came here to celebrate the opening of my friend Marysia Shultz's http://www.marysiaschu.../ Art Show "Begin with Stability". It will be on display January-May 2011. GO SEE IT! It's fantastic!!
With that said, we came on a very busy night here. They had two speed dating events going on AND it was the Jets' playoff game. The place was packed. We managed to snag a table to eat dinner and they have a wonderful $18.95 three course prix fixe that we could not pass up.
What a steal! That price is pretty awesome for what you get and I went with the skirt steak as my main. Started with a garden salad that was fresh, green and actually quite pretty to look at AND eat! I was quite satisfied with my meal and presentation. The food was great and I barely had room for dessert. The steak was cooked perfectly! Oh and the rosemary fries were a great touch! Everything was good, I have nothing but good things to say about my meal.
Service was also pretty good here. We had a really friendly waitress and the host was also really nice and funny. We actually got a kick of the dynamics of the speed dating events going on around us. I was entertained lol Although the place was crowded, I didn't mind. We were still able to appreciate Marysia's artwork and congratulate her on having her work displayed. Also, FYI they do have live music as well, Wednesday through Saturday nights.
I like the Cupping Room Cafe, I'd come back for their prix fixe again. It's a cute place with a lively atmosphere and surprisingly good food. Recommended! -
Review from Jim U.
We went here last night for, fellow Yelper, Mo P.'s art exhibition. Unfortunately, yesterday seemed to be the day for everything! Upon our arrival, there was a bit of confusion. Apparently the bar section was overtaken, understandably, by Jets fans. The remainder two thirds of the space in the back was split between two different speed dating events. All along the walls, between these three happenings, was the exceptional artwork of one Miss Mo P.
After looking over a number of pieces of art, we opted to have dinner at the restaurant. Apparently, on Sundays they offer a 3-course dinner for $18.95 which is quite the bargain given that many of their entrees normally cost more than that alone.
For the first course, we had a choice between a couple of soups and salads. I went with the chicken vegetable soup. This was rustically prepared and not bad. There were plentiful chunks of white chicken meat and equal amounts of chopped carrots with a couple pieces of zucchini and noodles rounding out the soup. The carrots were sweet and tasty and the broth was fine. Good start.
For the main course, I had a choice of hangar steak, a chicken entree, or house-made ravioli. I went with the last choice, being a lover of pasta made by hand. These were green (spinach) ravioli stuffed with spinach and mushrooms and served in brodo. I was impressed by the "in brodo" part. I almost never encounter that. The pasta was nice, but the monochromatic dish and its singular note ultimately were only so pleasing. I might have enjoyed the hangar steak a bit more.
For dessert, we each had a brownie with a choice of either chocolate or maple ice cream. We both opted for the chocolate and were pleased.
Overall, the food was okay. Given the bargain price of the 3-course special, I say it's worth trying. The ambiance is probably a bit more subdued and interesting on less frantic nights. The service was especially friendly. In short, a cool place with remarkable art. -
Review from Alex S.
Listen, I mean, if you're in the neighborhood and that breakfast monster is growling, you can do a lot worse than the Cupping Room.
What makes this place cool is really the space. Retro tiles, bright abstract art, fresh flowers by the dessert display, sun roof, the whole deal. For those of you (like me) who are like "Who cares, I'm hungry" let me add that the servers are awesome and never rush you. Food is solid to good. Desserts always impress.
You're coming here for the ambiance. It's pretty obvious you don't show up here for the menu, where the most exciting option is probably the $18 waffles. (Da-da-da-dangerous!)
I lived right across the street for a year, so I've been here plenty of times. I'd say we're almost friends. But like the type of friends that when we bump into each other randomly we're like "haha omg why the hell haven't we been hanging out like every day. We should do that" ... and then we don't.
Well, that's it for now Cupping Room. Until I randomly bump into you again.. -

Gotta say this was a great, WARM spot to have a post 11PM meal on a Friday. I guess Tribeca empties out early on cold nights? Or just in general? I say that because this place was 90% empty at what I consider prime time on a Friday (11PMish), but I can't complain as my date and I enjoyed the relative seclusion (and the toasty fire from the antique oven).
I had the ceasar salad with salmon, which was great until I got to the 'soup bowl' of dressing that was drenching the lower half. That might be a dream for some (goodness knows I like me some balsamic vinagrette), but to me? Gag 101.
It bears mentioning that the waiter was all but absent until it came time for him to let us know he was leaving (aka "show me the tip money"), but I guess it's hard to be motivated when the number of occupied tables (3) is equivalent to the extra dollars you are leaving with (not much).
Anyhoo...all in all a good time, even if I wasn't meaningfully impressed. -

Staff is rad!
J & Mark are friendly, helpful, and just all around awesome.
The live music was a huge hit for our group. I live in Seattle where there are 20-30 live bands playing within 2-3 mile radius. So being spoiled that way, I'm happy to know of a place here in NY to catch an act or two on the fly.
Late night menu was great and filling as well. I'll need to come back for the breakfasts on my next trip.
I would love to see a mid range dopplebock beer or dunkle to mix in with their great IPA choice since I finished off their Guinness store that night
:)
I'll be back most certainly. -

OK..I'm giving my EXPERIENCE here last time 2 stars..not the food! The food is still amazing..but I wanted to talk about my experience here last weekend, as I am still pretty annoyed by it.
I made reservations for TCRC, extremely excited to take my boyfriend who lives in Maryland to this gem that I love! We got there and were seated immediately by the host. After that the experience went to hell.
We didn't have a server come to us for at least 10 minutes. We weren't offered any drinks and weren't asked if we had any questions about the menu (which we didn't, but still it's nice to be asked).
So we ordered our food and it was brought out to us as ordered. And it was completely yummy and delicious...the eggs...the stuffed french toast...all of it yummy!!
Here was my problem...the service that day was awful! Our server didn't come to our table even ONCE...not once to ask if we needed anything...still no water...and we had to ask a busboy to refill coffee and get us some water...Meanwhile our server was standing at the bar the WHOLE time chatting it up with other employees. Completely not cool. I was completely disappointed with the service and in general this experience left a bad taste in my mouth...
As much as I love this place, the city is full of new places to check out for brunch...I might have to actually start going there instead! -

Here's to a good happy hour, and the friendly blonde mirror painter and her Rob Lowe look-a-like counterpart.
Free chicken wings at the bar and 3.50 Bud lights.
No free wireless though. Live Jazz is a good substitute on this Friday night after work to meet friends.
Chicken strips looked deep fried HARD but my friend seemed to enjoy them.
I've eaten in here many years ago, so I won't speak on that here, but always a cozy atmosphere. -

I love the atmosphere in this restaurant. I came in with a group of 5 friends. We were told to wait by the bar where they had complimentary muffins and tvs to entertain you. The wait for a table of 6 was about 15 minutes. The owner always came to check in on us. Great service!
Upon ordering our food was in front of us quick. I did take a star away because of their customer restroom. It was decorated pretty cool but they had no soap and it was tiny. There was barely space for me and my purse. I ordered a burger and fries. Delicious! The burger was well seasoned and huge! Not like your over processed meat some restaurants try to feed you! I could rave about this place for hours! You have to experience it for yourselves! -

Came here the other day for breakfast. Okay. I have never had an over $40 breakfast unless it was brunch or tea time or something. The food was decent, ambiance was nice... but seriously... that's pretty pricey for a two person breakfast. My boyfriend had strawberry pancakes and I had poached eggs with bacon and a cup of tea. The food was good, but not over $40 good.

I came here for brunch one Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago with a group of my coworkers - I think there were 8 of us overall, with our 8th party joining late and we didn't have a reservation. Within about 15 minutes we were seated, having all had a chance to order drinks and sit at the bar.
The mimosas were delicious and strong! I had the grilled cheese sandwich with a salad and have no complaints, but it wasn't anything special - the prices don't really justify the quality of the food, but the portions were pretty reasonable. The coffee was fairly poor, but I wasn't expecting much.
All of us took advantage of the Foursquare special and the waitress was happy to give us a free selection of cookies for checking in!
I've also ordered the steel cut oats from here; well done yet again pricey for what it was. -

Another restaurant find based on 50% Scout Mob. Very busy even at 2/3pm on a Sunday, but luckily we didn't have to wait long at all for a table. Good service, decent brunch food. I def. recommend the build your own eggs benedict bar - my dining companion ordered the eggs benedict with melted Monterrey jack cheese, avocado, and baked salmon. It looked amazing! The accompanying homefries were good, but quite spicy (be prepared). My sandwich (avocado, sprouts, and Jarlsberg) was good, but my iced coffee was a bit watered down and over-priced. Bathroom needed some cleaning. Yikes.
