i love the fact that patrons here are all about having a good time. i came with a small group of friends and had the biggest diet redbull + vodka cocktail i've ever seen, and i'm pretty sure if i'd finished it my liver would have shriveled up and died right then and there.
the drinks are huge, reasonably priced, and decently strong. the bartenders are sweet and most of the people there were all laid back. the only thing that's a slight downer to me is the soundtrack (a bit TOO technopop for my taste).
lastly, this place has the biggest disco ball i've ever seen in a small club, glorious.
Lines at the bar?! What happened to the good ol' days when it was push-your-way-to-the-bar,-drunk when ordering a drink? Confusing. It took getting dirty (angry) looks to understand the bar policy at this club.
The music's great, the crowd not so much. I got the impression it's like 1/2 youngster, 1/2 leather daddy. Not a good look for me. One of those places you don't wanna ditch your friends at because, well, your friends are the only good looking people in the place! I kid. Kinda.
OMG strongest drinks I've had in a while. Great liquor selection. Bartenders really knew their stuff.
This place is huge! Huge out door porch area. Great dance floor. Fun people. Everyone was in such good spirits! Well I guess with all that liquor who wouldn't be. This place is great! As a straight girl I was definetly a little intimidated by the ammount of men, but no one really cared who was what. And I definelty felt at home.
Let's get one thing straight about drinks at the Cuff. They are stong. They don't fuck around. You order a drink, then you'd better be able to handle the business like it's your job, understand? Good.
I love the Cuff. Good dancing on weekends, a fun place to go with fun, (mainly)friendly patrons, and did I mention, the strong drinks. I like that there's an outdoor bar/patio where you can cool off after dancing, and I like how welcoming people are. There aren't as many ladies here as, say, at Neighbors, but whenever I go the gents are sweet as pie. There is a pool table that is pretty hoppin' all night, and a more "chill" front bar to offset the louder back bar where the dancefloor is. The Cuff is alright by me, that's for sure.
If you want role play then you go to THE CUFF!
Here's what I know about Seattle and the gays (and I can say that, being a member). There are many bars that we attend, but when it comes to what type of gay we are, there are really only three types.
There's the Neighbors type - young, twinkish, and enjoying popular dance music.
There's the R Place type - minority, young to old, and enjoying rap music.
Then there's the Cuff type. All over the age spectrum, all over the musical enjoyment spectrum, and not caring if everyone else around is just like them or not.
I happen to be a Cuff person.
Now, don't get me wrong, this place has its problems. The bathroom by the pool table - fugly mofo's looking at your wang while you pee. The facility itself is pretty heinous on the eyes. And it can get smelly (a product of the attraction of the bears). Also, if you're a girl (biologically born as such), don't expect a warm reception here. This is a gay man's place, not for his hag.
But the positives are all over. For one, strong and cheap drinks. A large dance area for those who so choose. A huge back patio. bars all over the place, so it's always easy to get a drink. Generally fun-loving clientele. And, if you happen to have had a drink or five too many, the staff will make sure that you don't fall down, don't drink anymore, will give you water and, most importantly, won't just kick you out (unless you're a dick, but that's for being a dick, not drunk).
The staff are generally great, the cover always low, and the people that come here aren't pretentious. Fugly people talk with pretty people, and it's all good.
So yeah, it's not the nicest place in the world. But dammit, it's a great place to spend a Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening!
Also, for those of you care, they have Karaoke one or two nights a week (I can't remember), and the setting is just perfect!
Ooohh Cuff.... my gay friends loved you because of the cute boys I loved you for the cute boys that kept their hands to themselves and the AMAZING techno music- why don't they play this stuff in Seattle???
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Cover charges for this? I can have a better time dancing anywhere else. Why don't people get a clue and not go anymore?

The help is generally friendly. The bar setup is ghastly and not very conducive to meeting people… Read more »
WOW -- this place kicks ass!
I went here a few months ago and never thought to review it. There's a cover charge - but that's the only negative.
It's a HUGE club with a great mixed crowd. I was really surprised at how big, and how popular it was. The music was great as were the drinks. All in all it's the best Gay bar I've been to in Seattle and the most fun I've had dancing in Seattle too.
This place is awesome! One of the best gay bars we've been to. Arrived around 3 on a Sunday afternoon. John, the bar tender, is an absolute sweetheart. There was a BBQ on the back patio staring at 4. Patrons were really friendly. As it got later, the place filled up. To my delight it was extremely diverse: different ethnicites, different nationalities, different sizes, different genders, locals and visitors. Usually gay venues are so segregated. Not here. Yay!
I even got to meet Dan (aka Puppy), the manager. He was mingling. Really nice guy!
Absolutely the trashiest place I've ever set foot. Softcore porn plays on the dancefloor, which is decorated in Christmas tinsel and metallic palm trees. The music generally consists of Madonna remixes and there's a drawing of (I kid you not) A LION HAVING SEX WITH A DUDE on the wall. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, then by all means strip off your Baby Gap T-shirt and head off to The Cuff to gyrate against some leather daddy while the DJ spins another Pet Shop Boys/Kylie Minogue mashup.
No thank you, Cuff Complex. NO THANK YOU.
While sometimes the place is a hit or miss with the music the setup of the place is really neat the way the bar is set up and dance floor with a real floor unlike R-Place. However what makes this place rock for me is that they carry root-bear since I don't drink anymore, they actually have something I can get besides just juice which totally rocks! so that made me way happy when I found that out, its usually a pretty good croud too.

I have never felt so welcome into a community as I did in this leather-daddy bar. A place where the drinks are strong, the people are friendly, and everyone knows your alias.
In my opinion, seattles best gay bar. Its a liitle much if your not acustom to the lifestyle or you shock easily. But if you dare, they offer the Meanest drinks ever & a great place to let loose on the dance floor.
The place is huge, hence Complex and has four areas to party in. They have a huge outside patio and lots of cool people milling about.
OK so I came to this place on a Sunday, and they charged me a cover 5 MINUTES BEFORE LAST CALL! I went up to the guy and asked for my money back, and he told me tough luck. I was pissed. Then some tranny tried to steal my purse. I will never come to this dump again!
My boyfriend and I were looking to reconnect with "the tribe" one Saturday night and decided to give The Cuff a shot. Bit of a levis 'n leather scene? Sure, but don't let that lead you to think it's a "Leather" bar. We're both small young-and-fit types, neither really into leather, but there's something pleasantly disarming about The Cuff's patrons -- which is as mixed of a crowd as others have suggested -- and who says Leathermen can't be Gentlemen?
As a place to go dancing on the weekend (and that's what we went for), we've been to R Place, Neighbors, and The Cuff, and when looking for some place less trendy or less, well, queeny/teen-y (respectively), we'd try The Cuff for sure.
(On Saturday when we went, $3 cover started at 9:00pm, dancefloor opened at 10:00 -- dancefloor closed Mondays, Bear-y-aoke Tuesdays... and I forgot the rest of the schedule.)
Just checked this place out last weekend visiting from out of town. I like the Bear set, Levis n Leather after that and this bar did both pretty well.
I found the patrons quite friendly as well as the staff. Had no problem getting right into the mix with some hot locals who i hope to get to know better next time I'm up there. I also got hooked up with some suprestrong drinks for me and my friends. That led to some good times afterwards ;)
The dance floor was packed both nights and the music was jumpin even though dancin is not my thing; definitely appreciate the crowd mix though and that non-bears n leather guys kick it too.
I came to Cuff's from Cece's earlier in the night and enjoyed each venue equally. Where I'm from I typically kick it at one place, so it was nice to find two places that tickled my fancy to walk back and forth.
I can't wait to get back there and hang out again, as well as meet a few select folks that showed us a good time!
Let the fun begin. Mixed drinks served in pint glasses.
Nuff said.
as an out of towner who frequents seattle's gay scene, I find the cuff right on the mark. Mixed crowd, giant venue, great outdoor patio, and fun staff.
I also love the guy in the corset style side tie shorts with crazy gymnast style tank top--if you frequent the cuff, you know who I mean.
The attitude of the clientele is pretty approachable for the most part----which I don't see at other seattle gay spots---which kind of baffles me, um you are in seattle...drop the attitude.
The cuff is fun, non pretentious and dirty.
Loves.
This is like a mish-mash of gay experiences. Leather bar on top (with boot-black stations), circuit party below and Eagle beer bust out back!
I was fortunate to visit The Cuff during a heat wave so the back patio was PACKED with homos. It's a fun venue and seems to have a bit for everyone.
Stupid pin ball machine was too fast for my lazy eyes.
I love The Cuff. I love the people. I love the scary exterior that keeps out the timid. I love the bartenders. And I love the little lady who dances in her fancy skirt on Friday nights.
Meh. It's alright. Broad mix of people... very poor drinks. It's just okay.
I had a lot of fun when I went to The Cuff because as an out-of-towner and a resident of San Francisco, it's not often you find such a big (dance) club that serves the leather/bear scene. For example, the San Francisco Eagle has a no-dance-music policy for its DJs (you know, because I guess masculinity and dick size are directly proportionate to the music you listen to here, but I digress). I was a little apprehensive about The Cuff at first because it was hosting a "White Party" and I feared being overcharged at the door and a bunch of tweakers in Calvin Klein ribbed tank tops. Fortunately cover was only $5, and the crowd was diverse and tastefully, casually outfitted. Everyone was friendly enough and surprisingly free of the attitude which is standard at most gays bars. I'd definitely go again.
This place is smelly and hot as in temp! Fruit fly in my shot for added protein I saw! They act like the Russian Army of Seattle No pictures in here for a famous person might be in the photo and hit the news! Gross Gross. It should be sold and Condos should go like it was believed at one time.
Honestly im a pretty easy going person and what I am looking for is a bar with friendly people, good music, flirting, and occasionally a number or two. This place is great for that! My favorite part about the bar is that its not twinky or queeny and is more about "dudes at a club." Of course the gay scene (that isn't pretentious) always has dick on its mind but if you know how to navigate the ever-searching elevator eyes you'll have a really great time here.
Don't be fooled by the unwelcoming exterior or over-the-hill reputation, this place is a blast! If you're gay (and we know you are) then just get in here, it may cater to the bear/leather crowd, but it really has something for everybody. Darts, dancing, very friendly staff, and plenty of hot guys to suit any taste. And they let you stay until 3 on the weekends, which is more than I can say for most of the bars in this town. My night doesn't end at last call, and neither should yours. The cuff does loose points for the background gay porn, however. Write me off as a prude, but it can be difficult to carry on a conversation with a distraction like seeing a guy getting cornholed on the big screen right in front of you.
13 years it has stood there, Getting people drunk, getting people laid, getting people to have fun. The Long time staff know how to take care of regulars and how to welcome newcomers. The better you tip the stronger the drinks. Food from the bar? No thanks, although if your drunk off yer arse then eat something, please. Sundays are disco dance all day from 4-close in the dance bar. request more old school disco and they won't play the redundant gay crap
I'd be more into this bar/club if I was into the rugged/daddy/leather/bear scene. The average age of the people that come here are probably early to mid 30s. However, I've also seen preppy guys and other types so there is a variety of gays that come here, though they are a minority. The space is actually pretty big and they have a bar, pool tables, and darts on the first floor. On Mondays all the games are free to play. The dance floor (which is decently sized) is downstairs as well as two other bars and a patio area with heaters. On some nights the music is danceable but on other nights its too techno for my taste. I like it when they play dance mixes of top 40 music. They also have tv screens that play adult entertainment (mostly chi chi larue).
momma sized drinks that left me falling on the sidewalk, served by friendly bartenders.
pool with a view (of on screen entertainment).
sss-karaoke - I walked into a full on kelly clarkson concert downstairs. she was fierce.
nice outdoor patio with cute boys, except for the wonder woman wrestling outfit.
met some nice local folk here and had a great time.
As a newcomer, this has quickly become my favorite gay bar in Seattle. Friendly staff and patrons and the drinks that are guaranteed to wipe any inhibitions far, far away (read strong). For those not into the more bear-esque aspects, just proceed past the gauntlet of grrrrr to the dancefloor down the stairs and get your drink on. Any trepidation will melt away magically and you'll find most everyone is approachable. Other places can be a bit on the frosty side but I've found The Cuff to be a good place to just hang out and meet new people.
I always had a great time at this place. Still do when I travel. The music is great, the expansion (which was done a while back), was awesome and people seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves.
Cocktails in a gay bar...always hits the spot! And this place is no exception. Very cool crowd as I found my way here this weekend to meet a "new friend" and hang out. The crowd is pretty mixed - think bears and levis - nice! Overall, fun for everyone!
Most enjoyable bar - multiple levels, a little something for everyone. It's a little on the seedy side, but that's not always a bad thing. The bartenders do pour a little on the heavyhanded side - and that is a very good thing.
Not sure what's up the last reviewers butt but I think this place is great! Decent prices and a true gay bar, not half and half like other Seattle venues. Good music, hot men, what more could you want?
Smoky, dark, and slightly dangerous is the feeling to this bar. It's not the place you take your mother and most men really enjoy that feeling the club gives off. Modestly sized dancefloor as well as an outdoor bar with a score of heaters makes the place a step above the rest. Drinks are a bit pricey but the appetizers are cheap and very tasty!
