My hubby and I stayed here for a "stay-cation" a couple years ago (before we knew what that term meant), and it was fantastic.

We stayed in one of the cottages on the north side of the pier.  It was clean, simple but cute, stocked with basic kitchen supplies, and my favorite part was our private patio directly over the ocean.  (I don't think all patios are as private, so ask if that's important to you)  I really felt like I got a nice break from reality, even though we only lived about 2 miles away.

Unfortunately they have a 2-night stay minimum, but I learned that if you call a few days in advance and they're not booked you can negotiate to just book one night.

#14 was too close to the shore for me.  At around 4:30 p.m., the gate was closed to automobiles.  I called for a quote last week but was unsure so my boyfriend and I visited the pier this weekend.  I stared at cottage A, deciding that the patio would have an obstructed view of the sunset.  It is also next to the bait shop.

I think cottage #8 has one of those dutch doors where the top half can be left open for ventilation.  The first opening in October for a one bedroom cottage on the north side of the pier was $275 on the last weekend.  Except for cottage #22, which has its windows papered up and lacks a patio, they are cute, with nautical themed (except for the Mickey Mouse silhouette on one) blue shutters.  Summer season [June 15-September 30] is probably at least $45 more, depending on the distance from the ocean or size of your cottage.  We ultimately decided that we were beachfront people.

Her Majesty & I stayed here on one of our first vacations many years ago, & it's near the top of our list of places to get back to (2000 miles away doesn't help). The cottage was not glitzy, granite, or luxurious, but they were nice, clean & comfortable. Falling asleep over the ocean w/ the sound of surf was wonderful. We strolled down to the end of the pier to watch the dolphins & the sunset, & went back to the room to enjoy coverage of our Chicago neighbors getting blizzarded under. The rates would be steep if the cottages were anywhere near the great prarie, but on short notice if they are not full, they will offer a discount.

So they have  two night min, which kinda sucks considering it's like 200$ a night in December...However, I didn't pay for it and just got to be a guest which made this place awesome indeed. How often does one get the joy of falling asleep over the ocean. The rooms are small but really nice. Not in that 5 star nice way but just nice. In the summer you could chill on the little porch and shout at people. I've never done that but I bet it's fun

It is like staying in the lap of luxury (although the price might not suggest it) but spending the night in the Crystal Pier Hotel is an experience all unto itself.

The Hotel is made up of a series small quaint cottages that are on the Crystal Pier. That's right, the facilities are directly above the ocean and when a big wave hits the Pier, you can feel it, but there is nothing like sleeping over the ocean.

It's not Four Seasons, but the interior of the cottages is pretty cute. The rooms have a maritime theme and they are equipped with a living room and kitchenette But staying at the hotel costs well over a hundred dollars no matter what time of year it is. Then again, having the opportunity to sleep over the crashing waves is well worth it.

This is a cool hotel, more of an old-time motel really, as you drive up to your cabin. The cabins are on a pier in a touristy but not over-the-top area of San Diego. The cabin I stayed in had a bedroom, full living room, kitchen, modern fixtures, and a small deck that looked out over the water. I fell asleep to the sound of water lapping against the pier.

Recommended if you like funky motels or other unusual non-Marriott places.

I don't know anything about the hotel, but the pier itself is great. Every time my family visits San Diego, we go out to eat in Pacific Beach then take a walk down the pier. If we time it just right, we get to witness the sunset.

I think you can fish from the pier, too, which is cool. You cannot, however, jump off the pier. I guess some people have hurt themselves that way. I have to admit, I still have the urge to go for it.

staying here is one of the best decisions i've made.

i lived in san diego for a time and still have family that resides in the area. every time i visit i go on and on about how someday i would stay here. i finally decided, why not? so, after spending time with my family and nearly a week at a conference (sorry manchester hyatt, you've got nothing on the crystal pier) i decided to spend two nights at the pier--solo (i made the reservation nearly six months in advance).

what a great experience. the cottages were nicer than i expected. some of the fixtures are on the older side, but everything is in working order and super clean! they provide dishes and cooking utensils, plenty of extra linen and the furniture was all very comfortable. i was even surprised to find a television with a dvd player  and cable (there went my two days of soul searching while staring at the ocean...).

i really enjoyed falling asleep and waking to the sound of the sea. i don't think that i've had two better nights of sleep in my life. and the whole cottage gently sways when a big wave hits--not enough to induce sea-sickness, but enough to remind you how incredible the ocean is.

the staff is really friendly and it's obvious that they love their surroundings. i was a little wary of the foot traffic during the day, but people were really respectful of my space, although i could tell they were curious about the interior. probably my favorite part of the experience was being able to pick up breakfast and coffee at kono's and bring it back to eat on my patio while watching the early morning surfers.

i would glady trade square footage to live here year round.
