Neighborhood: DowntownI love this place! I usually stop in on my way to work in the morning to grab a cup of tea and a crumpet if I'm in the mood. They have a great selection on tea(with unlimited refills!) and their crumpet with pesto cheese and tomato is amazing! i usually buy a pack of 6 for home. I totally recommend this place!

Looks like I'll be the 100th reviewer here. Ta-dah!
I'm just another voice in the choir of praises for this place, but oh what a place it is.
This place is the apex of family-owned, quality-ingredient, freshly-made-food restaurants. The menu is a little odd if you're seeing it for the first time, since nothing is really explained in a logical way. That said, just point and order something, as it's bound to be good.
The crumpets are quite good. I'm not sure where else I've had crumpets recently, but these are very good. The extra points come from this place's willingness to put just about anything on them. Maple butter with almonds and ricotta? Sure. Egg and ham? Done. Plain or just with honey? Sure, and that's only $1.55 if I recall.
My favorite meal is anything with the toast/bread. They make this stuff fresh, and it is some fantastic bread. They'll serve it with just butter on top, and it's the best breakfast food in the market. Have it with soup and a crumpet and you'll leave full for about $7.50.
This is way better than most tourist-centric places in the market. You must partake.

I had a delicious crumpet with salmon and cucumber. It proved a perfect savory and satisfying lunch. I washed it down with an iced chai and that was perfect too.
I also chatted with some lovely ladies from Anacortes at the table next to me. They were noshing on some hearty and tasty looking sandwiches. I'll have to try one of those next time. This place is little and cute.

I went here this morning with my sister, looking for something cheap and good for breakfast. I got all that and more with their breakfast special: a hot bowl of groats with honey, steamed milk, and dried black currants on top, with a crumpet with gooseberry preserves on top. If you eat in, they also have an all-you-can drink selection of six teas, including my favorite, Irish Breakfast.
Service was absolutely wonderful, and the groats were nice and hot. The real king of the meal, of course, was the crumpet. Hot and buttery with rich preserves, it was a one-handed feast. Every bite was better than the last. After devouring my groats and savoring my crumpet, I enjoyed many more cups of tea until it was time to hop the 49 to the hill.
ProTip: If you sit at the counter along the window, you have a great view of the crumpet-making enterprise to your right.

Genuinely good tea. Excellent crumpets (the best I've had in Seattle by far). Good jams.
Geez, what more could you want?
Reasonable price and in the middle of a huge tourist trap?
DONE!
I feel so very English when I sit here to drink my organic tea, nibble on crumpets, and talk on my mobile.
I have made a ritual of stopping here every time I go down to the nearby World Spice Merchants to stock up on loose-leaf. A bottomless cup of Irish Breakfast, perfectly brewed to satisfy even the most snob-ity of teasnobs, with a cream cheese and bitter orange marmalade crumpet... and all is right with the world once again. You can pick up all the trappings there (including that delicious marmalade) and try to recreate the experience at home, but you won't be able to make up conversations for all the tourists you see blunder by the big front window. And, really, that's half the fun.

Oh, lord. The ricotta, honey, and almond crumpet is the closest thing to heaven that one can experience. I can't rave enough about the warm, chewy, soft, utterly perfect texture and flavor of a minute-old crumpet. My mouth has been watering over the memory of this perfect breakfast item for DAYS.
The tea, on the other hand, is kinda weak.
Anyway, the second time I came by here, they were out of crumpets. 'the fuck? How is that even possible? You're the freaking CRUMPET SHOPPE (I like adding extra consonants and an E). And it's not even like, "Oh, hey, we're out of crumpets, but we'll make some more, don't worry your pretty little head about it." It was just like "We're out. Sucks to be you."
The face that I have not removed a star for this Euro-snobbery is a testament to how amazing the crumpets are.

Because I am not an aficionado of crumpets, I can't say if the crumpets were good or not, but I can say that it was denser than I imagined it to be. Also it also tasted a little bit sourdoughy to me. is it supposed to taste that way? I had a crumpet with almond butter and it was pretty good overall. I also had a bit of my boyfriends loganberry doused crumpet and that was good too. But compared to the english muffin, the density seemed a little overwhelming. It could be because it wasn't split open in half.

Fabulous light breakfast or do two crumputes for a more full breakfast. I'm a big fan of the smoked salmon cream cheese and egg crumpet and a bowl of the hot groats with currants. They seem to have a nice variety of teas too, but I'm not big on tea in the morning.

OMG CRUMPET MANIA!!!!!
I JUST LOVE THIS PLACE, I had to come back and update my reveiw. Please, this place is so awsome. but dont tell anyone, its gets too crowded!!!!
Yummy! Whether its a Ham & Cheese Crumpet or one with Preserves, they are delicious! Or, just order a plain crumpet and put some honey from over by the tea on it; it''s just as delicious. Their coffee is good as well as their selection of various teas. If you like British-style oatmeal, try a bowl of Groats. Very busy on the weekends, but worth the wait!

You could probably top one of these crumpets with Vegemite and it would be delicious. This place has perfectly pocked chewy warm delicious smelling crumpets and then they seal the deal with all kinds of amazing toppings. I can't imagine picking a favorite, but I suppose if you held a gun to my head I'd have to go with one of the pesto-cheese concoctions... though I'm pretty sure the actual trick is to come here every day so you can rotate through all of the selections...

be still my beating heart... A crumpet with raspberry jam. A nice cup of fresh tea with a dash of skim milk... oh, mama is happy!!! This place is the cutest little treasure in pike street's famous public market. It's a little crowded in doors... but if you are ok with grabbing your crumpet and tea and sitting just outside the shop... there are tables... and a fab used bookstore right next door if you want something to peruse. I have been here numerous times, and have never been disappointed with the service or quality. YUMM... boycott the english muffin and head right for the crumpet!

There was a particularly nice guy that worked there - David with red hair - he was super friendly and funny and let me sit there all morning to work. The crumpets are delicious, fresh, inexpensive, and fast, and I loved the tea.
And... they played a massive collection of Ella Fitzgerald. 100 stars!

All you can drink custom tea blends? Bowl of piping hot oat groats and a crumpet with almond butter? All for under 5 dollars as a breakfast special? yes please. Order "without butter", add jam or almond butter as a toping and you are ready to breakfast with the best of 'em.
Get here by 10am and you will be out the door to face the blustery Seattle winter by 11:00--or just stay as long as you can stand it, when the tourists start bumping you with thier elbows in this tiny nook wander next door and pick up some fresh reading material from Leftbank. Ideal way to spend an afternoon.
Seating can be hard to come by later in the day, but so's the breakfast special anyway. Early bird gets the groats.
It was love at first bite! If I ever say goodbye to Seattle, this will be the place I miss most. It's a rare treat for me since I don't often venture downtown while the sun is out, but I've got a neighbor that occasionally buys a six-pack of fresh crumpets and splits them with me. Topped with nutella or peanut butter and raspberry jam or cream cheese and raspberry jam or cream cheese and honey or peanut butter and honey...hot damn, they make me swoon.

the first time i went here a couple months ago, i tried the crumpet with nutella. anything with nutella on top can't go wrong. gasp* something's wrong- the crumpet could taste fabulous without...i can't believe i'm saying this...the nutella.
i mentioned it to the boy- although he is a local seattle peep and practically lived at pikes place, he never mentioned it to me. oh yeah...trumpet rob's parents own that place. what? who don't you know? whatever...yummmy buttery crumpet why do you hurt me so bad???
i trotted excitedly over there after sharing a cheese pizza with said boy, with the thought of yummy buttery nutella crumpet smashed in my face. as i danced up the stairs he casually strolls in....i swear to f-ing aunt jemima he knows everyone... the legendary trumpet rob calls out the boy's name. no time for introductions gimme gimme gimme!!!
gasp!!! out of crumpets!!! this is expected as it was the first weekend seattle has seen but only sun and that's when everyone comes out like roaches. think fast..think fast...boy still chatting up the homie...how about a pack to take home? out of those. *faint*
they had scones. delicious as they were...i wanted a crumpet. alas...trumpet rob to the rescue. whips out a pack of frozen ones for us to try. as i danced happily into the sunset and my boyfriend strolls slowly behind i know i love me some trumpet rob. or is it crumpet?

Before I begin, let me all inform you that I am starting the 7 day detox cleanse tomorrow. I have approximately one week left before I go to Miami and Puerto Rico, and with the kind of eating habits I got, it's going to be hard to trim these inches off this muffin top.
With that said, I wanted to splurge a little bit considering it's my last day of gluttony. So after lunch I decided that my buds needed a little sweet something to hold me up for the rest of the day. Out of my 23 years of life I have never ever had a crumpet before! Maybe I'm being over zealous but let me tell you...these little things were absolutely divine. They had so many choices of toppings on the menu, but I went with the ricotta cheese with boysenberry. Delicious! It was warm, sweet, but not too sweet, crisp and spongy, and the texture was just what my taste buds needed.
It was the perfect little treat for a cold and crisp fall day. I walked back to work with my crumpet and all the street vagrants near Pike and 1st were staring at my crumpet as if they wanted to strike me with a club and steal it! PAWS OFF MY CRUMPET!

I have to admit that part of my extreme love for The Crumpet Shop is purely sentimental. I have vivid memories of going to it when I was a kid with my family. What is even better is that it really has not changed in the last 20 years or so.
The crumpets themselves are so fresh and yummy. I usually eat them O.G. style with nothing but melted butter. However this last trip I had to get the Nutella. Heaven on a plate.

What more can I really add to the 80 reviews praising this little gem.
Sunday mornings my husband and I would wander the market, vowing to sample as much as we could for a set amount - usually a low $10 or $15 for the day. This was always a must-stop. Warm tasty crumpets for about $2!
Its usually packed but lines moves quickly and the service is nice. The egg and pesto crumpets are wonderful as are the nutella or almond butter. Hell, even plain butter is tasty if you are feeling tame. My only regret is that I haven't tried more of them.

but it's slow, people cut in line, the crumpets aren't warm unless you ask, then also leave them whole instead of cutting them, and it's the kind of "live and learn "place where explaining things to the customers is somehow below them. maybe i'm wrong, maybe i just have had bad luck. i went there three times, and was disappointed each and every... if your from B.C. then Don't Go..it's nothing like tea in victoria or gastown! i won't be going back.

TWO DOLLARS!!! The paperboy from Better Off Dead would love it here. I come here for a nice hot crumpet (made on site) with some nice real jam, and it only sets me back two bones. But if you want something fancier, they have eggs, and ham, and marmite, and nutella, and tomatoes, and tons more. Tons of tea choices, and their scones are fantastic (not too dry). And I totally agree with Mairead about the groats. On a nice day, you can sit outside too. Just a delightful place for breakfast. This is my favorite place to get breakfast in the Market. Fast, cheap, and tasty.

I hope this gem never goes away. I used to visit at least once a week when I worked downtown. I can't seem to stay away from the salmon cream cheese and cucumber - it's perfect. but when i want something sweet the nutella or even just honey hits the spot. i really don't understand why crumpets aren't more prevalent in the US. if you're into tea, they've got a killer herbal blend - and i'm usually a green tea only kinda gal.

Yeah, it's at the market and it's touristy during the summer, but everyone that works there is so nice. Now that I'm a regular, many of them greet me by name.
Crumpets aren't all they have, by the way. I usually get the Traditional English sandwich or the Salmon sandwich. Both are made on homemade bread (baked that morning, along with the crumpets) and lots of fresh veges. Filling and yummy.

Was very disappointed that they wouldn't serve me! I was on vacation to Seattle and I walked in 10 minutes before closing to order hot chocolate and crumpets. I was very excited when I found this place on yelp and I even put in on my itinerary for my trip! But when I went to the counter to order, the man at the counter said, "Sorry, we're shutting everything down." And I told him that I was on vacation and it was my last day and I really wanted to order, but still it was a no. So sad....I was really disappointed that they closed early and wouldn't help me.

After researching Seattle on yelp I knew I had to try this place. There was a line out the door when we arrived. The food was pretty good. I had the crumpet with pesto and tomato. We sat in the front and were able to watch the girl making the crumpets through the window. That was pretty entertaining to watch while we were eating. They were super slow on making an iced coffee which turned out to be disgusting and a guy stole my friends crumpet. So, the lesson we learned is come in pairs - one grabs the seats and the other stays up close to get the food otherwise you may be out of luck! And don't get your coffee here.........

Go here to at least say you've had a crumpet. Wait in the long line, be ready to fight to claim it when your order is announced (my bf got his stolen from him), bite into it and briefly imagine you know have a brief connection to Queen and Country. I would suggest taking your order to go, the place is super small, cramped, and service was slow. Good food to munch on while perusing Pike Place.

I see why people rave about this place now.
This kind of place is, I think, what lot of what people love about Seattle.
A small establishment that has been making good food for not a lot of money for years which isn't like every other place in the neighborhood.
I had a green eggs and ham crumpet. Like I had a choice. Seriously. How could I not order that. The two cups of nuclear drip coffee put an updraft under my chin from my lack of meaningful sleep.
I'll look forward to the next time I'm here again. When I next find myself downtown during the day, that is.

Just a quicky, buy a whole pack and take them home because one will not be enough. Sure, have one there with some yummy raspberry jam and loads of butter or with Nutella, and enjoy with a big hot tea or coffee. Soak up the atmosphere but take a bag to go cause your gonna miss them sweet bites when your gone, better yet buy two packages and freeze one for the long cold winter.
I'm so torn. On a good day, my favorite sandwich in the world just might be the thick slices of bread slathered with salmon cream cheese and horseradish, piled with lettuce, tomatoes, radishes and other nice yummies. On a bad day, it takes the nice but totally inept staff 20 minutes or more to make this sandwich, which leaves me irate and baffled. Baffled. What the heck is taking you so long? You should watch them spread the cream cheese. It takes minutes. MINUTES. What is WRONG with you people? Aren't you in the business of MAKING SANDWICHES? At lunchtime? For hungry people? Who don't have 20 minutes to spend?
Seriously. I love the sandwich. Love it. But good lord people, learn to move.

Before we moved to Seattle, I bought this book called "Newcomer's Guide to Seattle". It had a synopsis of all the neighborhoods, as well as restaurant listings. Because our first apartment was so close to Pike's Place, I read about The Crumpet Shop. Well, I basically envisioned myself taking strolls to the market to eat breakfast at this place when my youngest was still in a stroller. I would then shop at the market.
We finally got here and this was the first place I sought out. It was a straight-shot down 1st Avenue and I loved it. The proprietor was extremely friendly and welcoming. The crumpets were so yummy. I would order 2 crumpets with Nutella (1 for me and 1 for the youngest boy) and an Irish Breakfast Tea. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the variety of tea, although I only drink 2 or 3 kinds. I just like knowing I have the options. I also like that they are refillable. It is a small place that is often packed. They also served lunch there and the soups are quite good as well. The crumpets can be purchased there in packs but because they do not have preservatives, they will spoil. They are so good that they never stay in the refridgerator. They also sell the SUPERSIZE version of Nutella.
While the staff seems to revolve, there is one constant gentleman that is there who remembers us all the time, although we go sparingly since we are much busier now. We often return much more often in the summer when the schedules have died down, which is what we did today.
"Wow, you have the kids with you, they are HUGE!" is what he said to me today. I am always impressed by people who have a memory like this. It shows the kind of person they are. I was dissapointed that the owner wasn't there because we often said hello to her. However we weren't too dissapointed because we had delicious crumpets with nutella, 2 milks and an early grey tea for me. This was the perfect thing to start off the kid's day.

Go for the groat. Be it the hearty texture of the groat bread or the nutty flavor of the groat cereal, do not be afraid to veer away from the crumpets on their menu. Their healthy sandwiches are lined with fresh veggies and are portable-perfection. If you come early, enjoy your latte with a steaming, sweet bowl of groats. When I lived in the Market, I ordered the groats to go, savouring them as breakfast-in-bed.
Although the outta-this-world-pesto, cheddar cheese, and tomato crumpet is delicious, I suggest just snagging a bag of crumpets for a do-it-yourself weekend brunch. Have a few friends over, mix some mimosas, and set up a crumpet buffet. A few minutes of broiling will give your nutella/almond or cheddar/ham the soft heat that makes these crumpets so enticing.

I've died and gone to heaven. For the same price as a hard, tasteless scone and drip coffee from Starbucks, I can get a made to order crumpet and bottomless cup of tea or coffee with a free refill.
I had the pesto, tomato and parmesan crumpet and it was gooey, melty, toasty goodness. My new New Year's resolution is to try every item on the menu -- except for the marmite. I have no interest in marmite, but I'm impressed they serve it!

So, what exactly is a crumpet?
Turns out that it's a biscuit-sized pancake, with a slight crunch to the freshly toasted crust. Slathered on toppings are similar to bagel offerings, or maybe crepes. A must-try if you're in the Pike Place Market area.
Good lemonade, too.

Brick walls, old Alice in Wonderland-esque signs depicting tea pots and hand-scrolled lists of all the delectable jams and crumpet toppings, air pots of tea and coffee, a small bar along the side window and a few iron tables and chairs decorate this charming and cozy local haunt.
The food here, not just crumpets, is always fresh and delicious. The epitome of Seattle comfort food. The groats are warm, substantial and have the most fun texture- kind of squishy and crunchy at the same time- what oatmeal wishes it were. Delicious with warmed soymilk and honey. The crumpets are perfectly toasty, topped with butter, pesto and tomato for a light breakfast, or ricotta and nutella for a decadent treat. The teas are hot and plentiful- and it's nice to be able to help yourself. I love the chai here- perfectly sweet and spicy.
The staff, especially the family members who run the shop, are kind and will remember you when you come back. There's nothing better than going somehwere that serves delicious, comforting food- and they know your name!
