Solid 3. Its definitely not the classiest joint in town, seems kind of grungy but loads of fun when you get your bucket of crabs that you can beat, slam and eat!
Service can be hit or miss, sometimes you get great service, others - especially if it is busy - can be not so great (read: frustrating).
What you really want to do is sit outside when the weather is nice. Perfect setting for a nice Miami meal.
As for the value its just OK. Its a fun meal but not a gourmet experience.
Yep - the crummy interior need to be redone- We have had the whole spectrum of food experiences here, from very good to just OK so I think an average of 3 stars pretty much sums it up well.
Last time I was there, I took some customers to celebrate after a successful deal, it was a glorious Friday afternoon in the great South Florida fall and the outside seating was outstanding ! the drinks were just right and the whole dining experience was simply unbeatable.
You pretty much come in here and give the place 5 stars but as the experience moves on the stars begin to fall. The food is good but the relationship of price to food is a bit high.
It can be a bit pricey and I was sort of surprised because the first two times I did not pick up the tab but all in all it is a pleasant experience with good crab food which you eat with your hands and a mallet .... FUN!!!!
I wanted to take my Husband out to a real seafood buffet and I feel I got suckered into going here. I just got back home from the restaurant and I am so disgusted. I grew up eating only seafood, veggies and fruit so I think I know a little bit about fresh seafood. The food on the buffet was below sub-par. You can tell that the crabs and shrimp was frozen for a long time cause the meat sticks to the shell, well what little meat there was. There was no real selection to choose from. There was fried cod chunks, fried small shrimp, a small shrimp and tilapia dish with alfredo sauce, a rice pilaf, herbed red potatoes, corn on the cob and crab. That just doesn't look like a BUFFET to me. The salad bar was ok just not enough variety and there were no desserts but there was a little bit of fruit which wasn't very fresh. Especially for $19.99 a person excluding drinks. I will not be going back to this restaurant and since I told all my friends I was going I am sending the link to this page to them so they will know how my night went.
I really love there pasta its like crab meat and shrimps on the side, very yummy trade. It is a little pricey but its and ok place to go to.
I've been to the crab house 3 times so far and thought it was time to do a review on it.
The interior definitely can use some updating so if you're snobbish on the type of restaurant you dine at, this isn't your place as the decor is somewhat like a mix of Flanigan's (b/c of the old fishing decor) with Ruby Tuesday (b/c of the buffet bar). The outside seating is amazing: overlooks the water, generally breezy, and beautiful sunsets. Having been there 3 times, i would have to say that my favorite thing that I've had is the crab stuffed gulf snapper with crab orzo (around $27) which is delish! I've personally had some other things like the crab cake (great! no fillers), conch fritters (better elsewhere & too much filler), and the Baltimore platter (fried platter that you can make at your house and it'll be 100x better). I've been with people who've had the filet mignon (they weren't fans but hello it's a fish restaurant not steakhouse - but for $35+ you'd expect it to at least be somewhat good), the lobster (when they boil it it gets really rubbery), and the blue crabs with old bay (tasty but very little meat). They also have a buffet bar right up front that totally turns me off every time I go because its the first thing you see as the hostess seats you and it looks like it's been sitting there for days and it's very unappealing.
I'd come back here again because i like the view and the stuffed snapper but i probably would only go maybe once a year for my crab stuffed snapper craving.
Pros:
- Awesome views from the outside patio
- Great place to watch the sunset
- Decent food (off the menu)
- The starter bread is fantastic and warm
Cons:
- Inside Decor
- A little pricey for the type of place
- Food is a hit or miss (depending on your entree)
- Oddly enough the 1.25 lbs of alaskan crab legs are $43 and 1.5 lbs of crab leg's from Joe's stone Crabs (takeaway) costs around $48...i'd pick the joe's quality anyday
This review is based on my recent visit. This is my second time to The Crab House. The first time, I thought it was good. We brought my friends here last night so they can try stone crabs for $34.99 all you can eat stone crabs. I have to say that that's a very good deal. They were better than other places I've had. It had to do with their dipping sauce. I still prefer fresh, sweet, warm crabs any day. While 2 people last nite tried the stone crabs, I tried the garlic sauteed dungeness crab. I was very disappointed. I could've sworn I tried it here last time and it was good. By the time my crab arrived at the table, it was getting cold and the garlic sauce was not good. I personally think I could've made it better myself. On top of that, the crab did not taste fresh. It was a bit tough and cold. I live in California and I know how fresh Dungeness crab taste like and this was not good or fresh.
Pros: All you can eat cold Stone crab claws at $34.99 (great deal); great view of the bay
Cons: Cold seafood; mediocre garlic sauce
