We stayed at the Cottage Inn and Spa to celebrate my wife's birthday and I can't think of money better spent. The Vinyard Room had a comfortable bed, roomy jacuzzi tub with adjoining shower, great breakfast area in front of the double doors, and a roomy central space to kick back and relax.
The central courtyard provided a relaxing place to come back to after a wonderful meal. The calming fire and water fountain provided a beautiful romantic show at the end of the evening.
The fresh fruit from the farmer's market at the table, and the rose petals leading up the stairs were fantastic special touches. The breakfast in the morning consisted of French roast coffee, mimosas and a simple selection of pastries were great to wake up.
After breakfast we enjoyed a couple's massage that provided a perfect ending for our stay- a truly great massage.
Faye was friendly and helpful and made what could have been a difficult decision (I'm a bit of a tight wad), easy and without regret.

P.S.  The room had a TV too, but I honestly couldn't tell you if it worked.

Not much more I can add on top of the other amazing praise.. but to sum it up - FANTASTIC. Not only is the location great - you can walk right to the plaza - but the grounds are so beautiful you might not want to leave.

The massage services are great, as is the rest of the staff. Everything is very clean, with a very peaceful/cozy atmosphere. Its definitely more than an "inn" - as mentioned in another review, it really is a "retreat". 6 stars!

The Cottage Inn and Spa provided a peaceful, serene and romantic setting for a couple needing some serious relaxation time. The small touches of candles, fresh flowers, fluffy robes and the amazing jetted tub lent to the whole atmosphere. The central location of the Inn to the Sonoma square was another major plus.

The element that perhaps sets this Inn apart from any other standard issue hotel was the warm and friendly nature of the Innkeepers. We had a memorable experience at the Cottage Inn and we hope to be back soon.

My husband and I had a lovely overnight experience here!  We arrived to a cozy room complete with fireplace and candles.  We enjoyed a cup of tea in one of the garden areas in the late evening while warming ourselves in front of a spectacular waterfall/fire pit work of art!.  A basket full of baked goods was left on our door in the morning to enjoy with fruit and coffee/tea in our room at our leisure. We also enjoyed a relaxing couples massage in a beautiflly furnished room overlooking a zen-like rock garden.  The hotel is an oasis convenientl located 1 block off the square, so you have eateries and great shopping within walking distance.  Thank you Faye!  We will be back!

The Cottage Inn is a beautiful group of seven all-different rooms merging modern and traditional decors. It appears to be run completely by beautiful women making me feel at first that I was in a James Bond movie. A couple of men were in evidence only on our last day, doing some heavy lifting. If you stay here, and I completely recommend that you do, splurge on one of the more expensive rooms and by all means submit yourself to massage! There is an overall but unobtrusive zen theme going on here, manifesting in their use of non-toxic cleaning materials and healthy breakfast items like cereals, skim milk and fruit. The only negative, and this is probably a minus only to me, is a zen-like (I suppose) disrespect for television. Yes the rooms have TV's, but VHS players and mainly the worst warhorse cable channels (they did have the Travel Channel and Fox News, though). Loved the super comfy bed, soaking tub and open shower, but I am not allowed to post those photos! There was a sexy picture of Diana on Facebook for about 10 minutes last Monday until she thought better of it. Sorry if you missed it. Then she posted a photo of me in the tub on my blog! That's gone now too. Where was I? Oh yes, the Cottage Inn is just down the block to Sonoma's famous plaza. There are orange and pomegranate trees along the short walk. Five stars.

Simply heavenly-- beautiful grounds, fresh pastries in the morning, fruit+OJ+milk+tea/coffee already in the room, complimentary wine tastings at wineries, within walking distance to Sonoma Plaza...Oh man, I want to live there.

The best part of our stay? The upgrade! At check-in, we were informed that we were staying in the colossal Mission Suite instead of our reserved Courtyard Room.

Guess a Thursday-Saturday stay in the off season is not all that popular...

Right off the bat we were welcomed to The Cottage Inn by one of the most friendly innkeepers I have ever met. She promptly checked us in, offered to show us around the property and then took us to the room (which turned out to be larger than my current apartment).

With a full kitchen (stocked with cooking acutriments plus various breakfast items), massive living room, and a huge tub plus a wonderful outdoor patio, we were ready to spend the rest of the vacation at the inn.

While I'm guessing that not all of the suites/rooms are as large or inclusive as ours, they all do come with a bright smile and warm welcome from the tremendous staff, a basket of pastries hung by the door each morning, a terrific location only 2 blocks from Sonoma's main square, and complimentary wine tasting at over 20 Sonoma wineries.

Enough said, you can't go wrong.

This place is adorable. I stayed here on Christmas Eve and was thoroughly delighted by the attention to detail I found on the grounds and in the rooms.

I didnt get in the place until 12am so i didnt notice all the good things until the morning. Waking up Christmas morning I realized how well i slept on the very comfy bed and plump feather pillows. I really liked that they use ceiling fans versus A/C, makes for a more relaxing environment, plus a sounder sleep.

Breakfast is served before you even get in the room, with a little table pre-set for you and milk, orange juice in the fridge. Cereal is provided as well.

The bathroom is great too, the shower has two high-quality heads opposite of each other so you get that dueling shower thing going (nice if you have an SO with you).

On the grounds there is a great fire pit  with seating for a bunch of people for entertaining and such.

All in all a great experience and if youre in the area i highly recommend it.

The Cottage Inn and Spa is a quite a find in the heart of Sonoma, just a block off The Plaza, on a quiet street.
The inn is very clean and comfortable. The owners Faye and Gaeta treat you like family. The inn has 7 rooms all with different personalites. We stayed in the East Room, with fireplace, jacuzzi tub, bamboo lined patio. This is a definite for a nice relaxing/romantic weekend. Everything was exceptional, can't wait to go back!

This Inn is magical.  I have never been in a place with such a peaceful atmosphere.  The architecture of the place is stunning, so creative and original.  Every room has it's own flavor, and they are all beautiful.  There are living plants and flowers everywhere, some indigenous, some exotic, all beautifully arranged around the grounds, and in the rooms.

My husband and I were lucky enough to be the very first elopement wedding package that the Cottage Inn has ever put together, and I must say that they quite outdid themselves.  For one flat rate, the package included the Vineyard View suite, the minister, the photographer, the flowers, a cake, champagne for the toast, and a couple's massage.

Let me begin with Faye.  Faye is one of the owners of the Cottage Inn, which was designed and built by her late husband, and she was the mastermind behind our fantastic wedding.  She is amazing.  I have hereby adopted her as a family member.  She threw herself into planning our ceremony with so much love and excitement, that I know it was her infectious enthusiasm that made it so completely special and perfect.  I could tell she had a lot of fun doing it.  She is the sweetest, most peaceful woman I have ever met, and her positive vibes make it easy to enjoy yourself.

As for the room:  The Vineyard View suite is the only room located upstairs, and it has a beautiful view of one of the oldest vineyard in Sonoma County.  There is a large jacuzzi tub that faces the window with the view.  There is an adorable little breakfast nook, facing some large double doors that open onto a view of the bell tower of the inn.  The lighting that comes in through the double doors is phenomenal, it bathes the room in a heavenly glow for most of the day, and you can watch the sun set.  There are fresh floral arrangements that are changed daily (we stayed for an extra night, and were delighted to find a new, different bouquet the next day).  The bed was extraordinarily comfortable.

The food provided was light (pastries, o.j., milk, cereal, coffee) but was perfect considering the location of the Inn.  It is a 5 minute walk from downtown Sonoma, where there are countless restaurants, and many things to explore.  The last thing you would want is to be bogged down by a heavy breakfast.

The couples massage was amazing.  They have a spa room that is mostly window that faces a little rock zen garden (very private, of course).  The masseuses were incredible..  My husband was a little uncomfortable at the thought of getting a massage, as this was his first one.  By about a half hour into it, he began snoring.  Afterwards he felt like conquering the world, and I felt like melting into a comfortable chair.

The minister the Inn suggested to us was perfect.  Reverend Dalton, an Irish minister with a Catholic background (who was more than happy to do our nondenominational ceremony) provided some very inspirational words, and he was very thorough in learning about our relationship so that he could arrange the perfect ceremony for us..

The photographer that the Inn hired for our ceremony, Douglas Thompson, was SO professional, but very very fun to work with.  His work is amazing, and he recommended his extraordinary make-up artist, Stephanie Collette to do my hair and make-up, which came out perfectly.

The bouquet of flowers and my husbands boutonniere were created from the vaguest description of my dress and my flower preferences ("My dress is ivory with blue beads, and I don't know, I guess I like roses")  I could not believe how well they matched everything.  The cake was created from our description of what kind of cake we liked, and it was beautiful AND delicious.  The layout that Faye set up with the cake and champagne and candles and flowers was SO beautiful and artistic and perfect.  She is a genius.

We had our ceremony in the center lounge room, which is so amazing that it's difficult to describe.  Exotic palms trees grow tall behind 4 throne-like seats that are built into the ground.  Overhead is all open sky through a transparent dome canopy (weatherproof)  Raised up in the center of the 4 seats is the most unique fountain I have ever seen.  On top of the fountain is a huge bowl filled with broken bits of glass (from old shower doors, Faye informed us) that has a fire lit on the glass, giving the impression of fire on ice.  We had the fire lit for our ceremony, which took place at 7 at night.  I could not imagine a more perfect setting for a wedding.

I am so grateful to Faye, and everyone at the Cottage Inn, for making our special day so memorable and perfect.  We plan on staying there every year on our wedding anniversary, and I am already looking forward to going back.

My wife and I recently stayed here for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it.  The atmosphere was very romantic, with dimmers on every light and an oversized jacuzzi tub in the room.  We had cereal with fresh fruit each morning, with pastries delivered from a local bakery.  They had free wifi with good consistent signal, helpful staff, and lots of resources for local wineries and restaurants (including menus for most everywhere in the Sonoma Plaza).

I did one main compaint... we were in the Chapel Suite, which is right along the main hallway, so we heard everyone walking by as they came and went.  We just turned up our music a little louder and were fine.  Even with that, this wonderful little Inn is well deserving of five stars.

The owners of this establishment have created an exquisite retreat.  You are greeted warmly when you arrive.  We had problems with our reservation before arrival, but the staff were so apologetic, and there was no harm, so that was fine.  We stayed in the East Suite, and it was beautiful.  Great bed with great linens.  The bed looked out on a private patio for two.  There was a great soaking tub for two in the room and a nice shower separate from the tub.  The refrigerator was stocked with milk, juice and water in pitchers each day.  Fruit, jam and pastries were delivered every morning.  There was a lovely water feature in the area outside the room.  The Inn is also walking distance to the square.  A lovely getaway, worth the price.

My partner and I stayed sadly only one night at this wonderful Inn (I'm not going to call it a bed and breakfast, as calling it that may conjure up images of staying in some creepy old house with antiques, similar to the Bates house in Psycho, and I am certain everyone has experienced that at least once when staying in a "Bed and Breakfast") I would definitely call this place an Inn that serves a continental breakfast.  First let me say that the owner (Faye Behrens) is lovely, gracious and very friendly as is her business partner.  The room was spacious immaculately clean, with a very comfortable bed.  Our room even had a full kitchen, stocked with gourmet french roast coffee (already ground) herbal teas, as well as fresh squeezed orange juice and half and half for your coffee waiting in the fridge.  Fresh baked pastries and a croissant was left at our door (in a basket hung on the door) I only wished we could have stayed longer! The location cannot get any better! So close to town! (just down the street from the main plaza of the town of Sonoma!) I give this place 5 stars! Service, price! Location, friendly, caring owners! Wonderful! We will return and we will recommend this place to all of our friends and to my clients!

A little piece of heaven in Sonoma!  A beautiful B&B with top notch service, massage treatments and amazing architecture to boot.  My husband and I had a fabulous time relaxing in this little oasis for our 5th anniversary.  Faye, the lovely innkeeper, is literally the salt of the earth.  I was sad to find out that her anniversary was the same day as ours, since her husband Robert passed away not too long ago.  The massage therapists, Willow and Gianna were amazing.  The massage room is gorgeous with a view of a rock / sand sculpture and soothing zen ambiance.  Our evening ended with wine in the Paradiso room (where Faye and Robert actually got married) by the fire.  The next day, Faye set up bikes to be delivered and we biked to a few of Sonoma's wineries conveniently located near the town.  An extra bonus:  the Inn gives you a wine passport for complimentary tastings at 20 area wineries.  Highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone looking for a romantic getaway in the heart of Sonoma!!!

This is ultimately romantic. My only complaint (and sorry it is a big one) I had no one to share it with - and damn it since I am not to blame for that one (being the perfect and entertaining person that I am) I will (of course) have to blame them. REALLY stay here - you can walk to anything in downtown. Don't forget to rent a bike (store on Broadway) and cycle to some local wineries. There are many great dinner places to go to but if I was with the right person I think I would be picking up some takeout from a restaurant or the Sonoma Market and enjoying all the amentities of the room.

The Cottage Inn and Spa is a wonderful place to stay, especially for a romantic getaway or wedding! We held our elopement-style wedding at the Inn, and stayed for 2 nights. The owners of the Inn, Faye and Gaeta, are a mother-daughter team, and they have the art of innkeeping down perfectly. They are welcoming gracious hosts, but at the same time allow your complete privacy.

The rooms are luxurious and very unique. Faye tells us her late husband, an architect, is responsible for the wonderful little touches and interesting details of the Inn. The decor is soothing and clean yet not generic or hotel-like. Each room features a jacuzzi tub large enough for two, a fireplace, and a comfortable bed heaped with cushy pillows and luxurious comforter. The Mission Suite, where the groom's parents stayed, is an apartment-like suite complete with full kitchen (nicer than our kitchen at home) a private garden patio, and would be ideal for longer stays.

We stayed in the Vineyard View suite, perched at the top of the Inn, with wonderful views of the hills and the town, yet complete privacy. It's ideal as a romantic hideaway. We didn't get to see the other suites but from the photos on the website I can see they are each unique and comfortable!

Our rooms also featured mini fridges stocked with fresh milk, orange juice and bottled water while the dining table was laid out with settings for 2 and a fresh fruit plate, jars with 3 types of cereal, and coffee and tea (Might Leaf). In the morning, fresh-baked pastries appear at your door. Candles and matches were generously distributed in the rooms, and Turkish robes hung near the tub. At check in we were given wine tasting passports for free tastings at dozens of local wineries.

The Inn is right off the main square of the downtown, easy walking distance to many fine restaurants, shops and theater, in the midst of many wineries to visit. It's also right next to the main walking path bisecting Sonoma. Once you park there is no need to drive your car until you leave (and you won't want to leave!).

We didn't have a change to check out the massage services, but the massage room and garden looked very peaceful and soothing.

And finally, my favorite part is the Paradiso room. This courtyard garden is just a wonderful centerpiece to the Inn. It has a glass ceiling so it feels like the outdoors, but no danger of being rained on as we visited in early February. The fountain in the center provides a soothing waterfall sound, not a wimpy trickle. (The fountain cannot be heard inside the rooms, for those light sleepers). At sunset, the fire atop the fountain is lit - flames magically dance around atop a basin of crushed glass! Four comfortable seats for 2 surround the fountain, where you can sit alone or with friends and chat or simply gaze into the fire and water. The tropical foliage creates the feeling of a hidden oasis. The fire warms the room quite effectively when the courtyard doors are closed, we stayed on a chilly damp night and our wedding guests lingered around the fire for hours, none of us felt at all cold, we were quite cozy.

I  recommend that you contact the Inn by telephone, as my first email to them didn't seem to get through, when I called everything was straightforward. It may have just been a freak accident that my email was overlooked or someone thought they replied, but we had better luck by phone.

Highly recommended!

This place is great for a weekend away. Just far enough off of the downtown square that it is quiet and restful, but an easy 3 minute walk to everything. Wonderful rooms, well accomodated. Don't bother with the big guest house, as the smaller ones are just as great.

Relaxing,  self sustaining environment.  Rooms are very ambient with the gilded touches like soft music playing when you enter, table set for breakfast and morning delivery of goodies.  I would stay there any time.  The owner is a bit bitter though, but I like that.   It lends to the spice.
