I like to use the expression in my business "get it!"  I don't share that comment or compliment with many of my staff as you have to earn it.  As we have lived in Concord since '84 we have watched the Cheese Shop grow and change hands. Once all about cheese and bread  with a concentration on wine it has now become a spot you must go to if you like cheese, wonderful sandwiches and gourmet delights. It's very interesting how most items are sold even over in the "deli."  It's by the pound except for sandwich specials.   Today for us, we started with cheeses and as we have Pats fans coming tomorrow we started with 4 selections of spreads.  These are a cream cheese base spreads mixed with a selection of flavors that went in my bag as Sun Dried Tomato, Hot Mexican, Chablis and Crab Creole.   All delicious and perfect for pre-game snacking. We added to this a duck and fois gras pate and I got turned loose in the deli.  Nicely all cheese items were brought over for easy payment at the deli area. Many specials are right there staring you in the face which makes for an easy decision.  I opted for this round focasia sandwich that was piled high with Italian cold cuts and cheeses, roasted peppers, olive oil and sliced tomato.  The bread was cooked with cherry tomatoes buried into the bread. The bride nailed a Caprese on French bread. Selling by the pound is interesting as it does allow you to make a smaller sandwich, but then it's like going to the salad bar and loading your container up and realizing this diet special costs $10.95.  Be careful on the the size sandwich and pay close attention to the price per pound.   I haven't bought wine there for no particular reason other than every time I go in i burn through $75 to $100 and it all goes in only one bag!

Highly recommend FB liking these folks as they post daily specials on line and all the time. They really ..."get it!"  Plus they give you samples!

    Oh and this place smells............great!

This place is very impressive. It is a cheese shop, deli, wine shop, sandwich shop and they have a place to sit and eat (which I only discovered today). Today, my friend went in to buy prosciutto and cheese and we met a young man selling a prosciutto-like cured meat (can not for the life of me remember the name of it) all the way from his family place in Italy - he is only here for two weeks and this place was his first stop. We tried the samples and it was very subtle, not salty and cured to perfection. While my friend was purchasing this and some cheese, I trolled the wine section for some Riesling and a gentleman showed me an apple ice wine that is made in Harvard, MA that he said was on par with some of the more popular brands and at a decent price ($24). SOLD!
My friend bought some cheese, cured meat, olives, baguette, dolma (or what Armenian's call yelanchi - stuffed grape leaves) for about $30. For a specialty shop, I think that was a pretty good price.

    Was this review …?

This place is incredible! The cheese selection are impressive, and everything in the store is good and unique. They make their own spreads and I got the most delicious pub cheese (beer cheese) I have ever tasted. Also, I have picked up a dense dark rye bread that is very much like a polish bread. There are always people waiting in queue to have a sandwich made or prepared food. Teas, candies, jams, crackers, cheese, wines, prepared foods....so many reasons to go this place. I actually drive a good 25-30 min to get there so that's how impressed I am with this place. It is a destinations cheese shop!!

This is a fantastic fromagerie (sp?) and place to nosh in Concord that is deceptively large and also diverse in its offerings. I was not too enthusiastic when I first saw it because I was not interested in cheese enough to visit a "cheese shop" but someone suggested that it might be a good place to get lunch since they had sandwiches and soups. No kidding! The Cheese Shop has a wonderful deli in the back with fresh soups, sandwiches, hot and cold items. It is expensive, but well, it is Concord. I had a half a pound of baked haddock with zucchini and orange slices and was able to enjoy it in the small seating area. Great lunch! This place sells regional imports like maple syrup and cocoa powder from NH as well as a wide-range  of cheeses, wines, crackers, chocolate, etc. Epic!

This place is so fantastic. I've been to formaggio kitchen in cambridge and it's so full of stuff that I'm afraid I'm going to bump into everything. Plus the cheeses are all in this huge, high case where the cheesemongers have to come back and forth from behind.

Concord cheese shop is different, they have a low cheese counter and it is very orderly with a numbered waiting list on the busy days. The cheesemongers are extraordinarily knowledgable, and are willing to let your try everything if you wanted to!

My boyfriend and I go here almost once a month and splurge a little. We normally don't come out of there spending less than $40. but we get a good amount of cheese, usually bread and crackers, and sometimes pate.

We've only once had a sandwich from the deli area and i remember it being pretty good, but mostly we just go for the cheese.

My favorites brillat-savarin, st. agur, crucolo, and the pear hard cider!

Let's start my first review of the year with a great find!

I would be really sad if I ever become lactose intolerant!! Cuz I LOVE cheese!!!  I was in the area, stopped by the Cheese Shop for a sandwich and soup.  There was a couple people in line, so I went to check out the AMAZING cheese section while I was waiting.

The whole store smells like cheese heaven from the time you walk in, and the amazing choices of so many types of cheeses!!!! (see photo).

I decided to try their brie and blue cheese.  The double creme brie was the creamiest brie I ever had and the blue cheese was just wonderfully smelly :)

FYI - Store is close on Sundays.

"Oh me oh my oh my oh me I'd like to have some cheese please."

"We have Camembert and Camorla and Capri and Cheddar too.
We have aged Swiss and Asiago and several types of Bleu.
And Feta, Fontina, Havarti, and Gruyere...
    Munster, Mozzarella, and Monterrey Jack...
Once you try our Parmesan, you'll definitely be back!"

Okay, that might not be an exact quote of a conversation I may or may not have had.   They also have a deli counter with EXQUISITE looking sandwiches (saw people eating them outside) and a cute little cafe section buried among bottles and bottles of imported wines and just when it couldn't be fantastic enough...

yes, a section just for chocolate.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I love this little cheese shop. They have a great selection of cheeses and gourmet foods. I love to peruse the jars of jams and honeys, crazy crackers and chocolates from all over.  They are extra knowledgeable about the cheese and you can get samples of anything before you decide. They even make some super tasty cheese dips (the cheddar bleu is SO worth it!). Their wine selection is decent and very very well priced but for the most part isn't terribly adventurous--they tend to have the same brands all the time...you don't see much new makers finding their way into the inventory. Would be worth their while to find someone to help spice it up a bit.

Great place to grab a sandwich but really not the atmosphere to sit down and eat it, despite the couple of tables they provide. You are crammed into the wine area and it's annoying to have people shopping around you (and annoying to shop around the diners).

LOVE the Cheese Shop! In the summer salad and appies are my go to options for dinner because the last thing I want to do is turn on my oven. Since I was heading home the back way from work I found myself driving by the other day so OF COURSE I stopped in and picked a variety of cheeses.

Aged Gouda, check. Triple Creme, for sure! Cotswold, blue, and one of their suggestions later my cheese plate was set. Oh and had to buy a bag of the crackers I got to sample, they were a nice alternative to my usual baguette.

The only thing I don't love is the cheese is in coolers behind the counter so it's not as easy to browse by name. But luckily, I know most of my faves, and love to try a new one or five each time. The girl waiting on my was patient because she recommended a few I just wasn't loving, but after trying more like five I ended up with an Italian semi soft (yes, I already forgot the name) that was delish!

On our Tour De Concord, I brought Dawn in here.

Woof!  It sure smells like a cheese shop.  And, it has the best deli counter you'll find in these parts.  As well as a fantastic display of very fine wines.

It's all extremely expensive, of course.

Cheese! Cheese! No more chain grocery store cheese bin with plastic-looking cheese! The Cheese Shop is absolutely fantastic. I fell in love as soon as I entered. Having just moved to the area from southern Worcester County where nothing like this exists, I knew I hit the jackpot here. While Whole Foods has a larger cheese selection, the Concord shop's array of fromage is gosh darn heavenly. I just wish its hours of operation could be extended so my wine expert partner could come with me to choose cheeses. He would enjoy the wine area and the very knowledgeable and friendly service in that section. My first time in the shop was two weeks ago, and I met the former owner of the store who now assists in the wine department. He is very kind and has lots of great stories.

We are huge wine and cheese buffs. We were in Burgundy and the Northern Rhone last summer, so we were spoiled. That's where our obsession with cheese -- in particular Epoisse -- started. So it's just marvelous that we can foster that obsession by frequenting the Concord shop. Yae! As if you can't tell, I'm encouraging you all to go there. It's a gourmet foodie's dream!

While I do appreciate this store, and their wonderful selection of cheeses, the staff leave much to be desired when it comes to ordering a sandwich.

I was there on a busy afternoon and ordered a simple enough sandwich.  Rather than give you a number or take your name, they simply shout out what they've made and hold it above the counter.  I heard what I thought was my sandwich along with the guy behind the counter gesturing to me - so I took what he had but - since he had such a lame grip on this thing it fell over and made a mess.  I felt a right fool, along with the fact that it wasn't even my sandwich.  Why did he hand it to me!?  I was pretty ticked off and sat down and waited an inordinate amount of time until they had made my sandwich and made sure it was mine before I took it from them.

I don't like their methods here.  Disorganized and annoying.  Food is fine - just be wary.

I love this place! Used to eat here weekly when I went to high school in Concord. Their sandwiches are made to order soooo well. All the ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality. If they're ever featuring the three-cheese grilled cheese, get it! Its the best one I've ever had - caramelized onions are the kicker.

The staff is super friendly, although I don't know if any of the folks who worked there when I frequented it are still there except the owner, who is great too.

Now that I'm of age, I look forward to going back and enjoying the wine selection!

Wow, I just love this cheese shop.  I picked up a loaf of bread and some cheese on my way back from an AMC hike in Walden Pond.  This certainly has character and the whole town is just great.  You won't find a Starbucks near here and thank goodness.  Plus, you get to sample the cheese as well when you visit this place.  NICE...

On our way back into Boston we had stayed a few days in Concord at the Colonial Inn. We were just about to leave when we spotted this cheese shop off of Main St. OMG!! the selection is AWESOME! we purchased some coffee for a friend of mine and tried a wonderful tasty goat cheese from Vermont and a delicious cheddar from England.

Service was prompt and patient at the counter and they did not have the means to package it for our flight but the prices were in line with what you would expect of a specialty gourmet shop.

Compared to a lot of other places, the selection is pretty good.  The staff is friendly and attentive.  They let you try samples of everything prior to purchasing.  For Massachusetts, this is a really good cheese shop.  Of course, then you get out of Massachusetts, travel the world a bit, expand your horizons, and realize that there are far greater cheese shops out there in the world.  But still, by MA standards, it gets 5-stars.  But a little more variety would be nice.  I went here this weekend for the first time in over a decade, and they were selling some of the same cheeses they were then.  I get the "if something ain't broke, don't fix it" thing...but still, it'd be nice if they branched out in their offerings a bit.

What is even more impressive than the outstanding selection is the knowledge of the staff. They have a recommendation for any situation and an opinion -- with reasons . Hey, I can't decide on my own!!! Thanks Cheese Shop. Giving and getting your gift certificates are the best.

Oh, and there is this $6.99 bottle of Portugese Red Table Wine that they have been selling for years. I took a flier on it and now I get one every time I'm there. They keep count of how many have sold. Funny.

The service was excellent. We were allowed to taste a whole lot of cheeses before settling on the ones we wanted (an Ossau-Iraty and a 4-year-old Gouda). The cheese was fabulous, great tasting, and the baguette we got to go with it really complemented things well. We took our cheese to-go and ate at the hotel. I will definitely be going back and having a full lunch there, as well as sampling some of their wine selection whenever next I'm in Concord.

Once you get past the wickedly unfriendly counter help, Cheese Shop of Concord is a great place. Lots of imported dry goods, oils, vinegars, wines and sweets. The cheese changes frequently and is always a treat. They carry a large and ever increasing selection of true farmhouse and artisan cheeses from the US.

Hello Mr. cheese. I like your sandwiches by the pound, but I wish it wasn't so pricey. We loved the mustard. Pretty nice deli-staff, although moody at times, plenty of deliciousness to oggle over while waiting for your food. If you are craving something sweet, opt for a brownie or pecan bar at the deli - if you want pre-packaged treat, i would head over to the candy shop next door for cheaper prices.

Best place ever!  I tell all of my friends from the area that they absolutely have to go.  I live in the city, but will never complain about the relatively easy drive to the Cheese Shop.

When you arrive at the shop, you take a number - kind of like the butcher's counter at the supermarket.  When it's your turn, the person assigned to you happily assists you in finding any cheese you need or want.  I usually tell the employee what kinds of cheese I typically enjoy and they always have a number of recommendations.  I always leave with both old favorites and new discoveries.  They also have some excellent cheese dips/spreads - my boyfriend is partial to the bleu cheese one.

A must-visit for any cheese aficionado.

Look, I love Whole Foods as much as the next person, but if you're looking to buy cheese, wine, or imported candy/and similar upscale gourmet stocking stuffers, please get on Route 2 West from Boston and make the trip.  This place is all you can ask for from a beloved local business; quality, great staff, accessible parking, reasonable prices, and they are way more generous with the samples than the folks from Whole Foods.  Up there with Formaggio Kitchen as a cheese or overall foodie destination.

A small specialty shop focused on cheeses, wine and dried meats.  The quality and selection are second to none for the suburbs but it comes with a price.  The shop also features a full service kitchen for meals to go or quick grabs at lunchtime.  Every new day, brings some new hot entres choices and you can also create your dream sandwich, since everything is priced by the pound.  The staff is always very friendly and accommodating.  One of your best bets for a quality bite in Concord center.

Peter & crew really know their cheese! And wine. And all-around great food. They have an exceptional, impressive selection of fine cheese from around the world, and can steer one to the perfect one to complement to any dish wine, or event. Considering that the majority are imported, and many of those from small operations, the prices are good, too. There's also a great selection of non-American candy, condiments, treats, teas and more, which, along with the wine selection, is impressive for the size of the store. Well worth a trip, but expect to leave with more than you planned on.
