I used to go here a lot to study, esp when I got tired of fighting w/ other ppl to get seats and really needed to get some serious studying done.

Pros: close to subways, lots of seating, good spacing between seats so you're not on top of everyone else, internet access, relatively clean bathroom.

Cons: BAD coffee (everything is bad: chai tea, every flavor coffee, lattes...)

Bottom line: If you're tired of Starbucks and want to support a neighborhood coffee spot, stop here.  Expect to easily find a seat but don't expect amazing drinks.

I love how big the space is and the options for sitting: regular tables, tall tables, and couches in the back. The prices are decent, and the pastry options are certainly there. The noise level is high - in a good way, I thought - and the music is very poppy. I'd say it's a good place to meet up with friends but not necessarily to study. My one complaint was that it really didn't have any... character. It kind of reminded me of what a stripped down cafe would be like. It did the job at the time, but don't ask too much from this place.

Walking on the coldest of cold mornings to the Red Cross headquarters to do some disaster-relief training, when I find myself in a disaster. 7:30 am. I haven't had coffee. It's cold. And I keep passing Devilbucks.... I feel their burnt coffee and high prices taunting me... I flip them the birdie (not really, geez, I'm not that rude...)... and keep walking.

Thank goodness I came upon the Coffee Pot a few blocks later. The coffee was mediocre, but on that morning- it was perfect. The staff was very friendly for it being that early, and I sat for a while at the counter and people-watched, silently shooting mind bullets at the passers-by who had succumbed to the Devilbucks down the street.

A okay place to come to get a quick bagel (H&H Bagels), and a coffee, sometimes the coffee is better then other times. I like the bagel toasted with cream cheese, it is toasty and crunchy which is a bright thing to start out my day of walking.  This coffee shop could use a little sprucing up though. I like the seating you can sit by the window on the bar stools, bar stools in the inner part, regular tables and chairs or the sofas in the back at your own risk. Don't know anything about the Internet though.

The coffee is mediocre, ditto the drinks. But that's not why I come here; I come here every time I swing back into my hometown for a little piece of humane capitalism and local culture/flavor in a NY that the Republicans have otherwise sanitized into the Matrix. (Yep, just like the movie, most people who live there today don't even know it.) Maybe it's also b/c I used to go here when I was in high school, and also b/c it makes me feel just a LITTLE better that my fave cafe, Caffe Rafaella, has succumbed to the Architect...

it's a little piece of Berkeley and old boho NY. It has NOT yet succumbed to Staryucks, Inc. Hell w/ the rest of y'all hatin' on this place, for THAT alone, I give five stars to the owner for keepin this corner of Hell's Kitchen non-uber profit-oriented

And the couches are way comfy. Bathroom is a drag, though, never quite clean, though not filthy. Try to find some other cafe you can go, sit, and be comfy for hours. In Manhattan? Yeah, fuhged abowd id.

I was looking for a non-Starbucks coffee shop to meet up with a friend.  We enjoyed our teas.

There seemed to be a decent amount of tables and chairs, as well as a couple of couches.

I can't speak to the quality of the coffee (didn't try it), but glad to see some variety in Manhattan coffee shops.

My new favorite coffee shop in NYC. Lots of space for seating, whether to chat with friends or study. I love their vanilla chai latte. Yum!

I was happy to find this place after being stuck in NYC, due to snow in Boston. The Coffee Pot is warm and inviting. There's plenty of seating: tables, window bar, and couches in the back.

I was very happy to see that there are computer terminals to check your yelp account at ;-). There isn't free wifi, as a previous reviewer had mentioned BUT there is paid wifi (however, I was able to pick up unlocked wifi, VERY NICE). Outlets are a bit scarce.

They have a decent tea-bag and coffee selection, as well as lots of baked goodies and sandwiches. I wish it was loose leaf tea and in a pot, so minus one. My "berry full" muffin was moist and tasty, and the morocan mint tea hit the spot. Staff was friendly.

Note, this place is cash only.

What the hell is wrong with you people? This is a great place! I was actually shocked to find it. I work not too far and worked a little further uptown but in the same kinda area for a long time. I went walking from my new job in the horrific Times Square-type area in search of a coffee shop (a real one, not a Starbucks corporate fuckhole like it seems like most of yelp would prefer) and thought I'd have to settle for a deli.

I was happy to come across the Coffee Pot. The coffee was good and cheaper than Starbucks and features a lot of the same kind of stuff you could get there -- lattes and the like. They also have pie and various things to eat. I also got a rice krispy treat and guess what? It tasted good.

I haven't sat on the sofas in the back but they look no more dirty than all the lounges you people give 5 stars. What's the problem? Light of day? Not stumbling around drunk? I can't believe these negative reviews. Are we such a prissy city? I guess so.

Go pay 10 dollars for a cup of coffee and hang out in Times Square. Go eat at the Olive Garden. Enjoy it. I'll get a real cup of coffee here instead.

IDK what to think.
There's Starbucks down the block- so when I pass it I think "you know what- i'm going to a better coffee shop in hells kitchen"  so I do- and I find "The Coffee Pot".... it's pretty cool- there's a fun scene and lighting, a lot of locals, some flavor... but the coffee, well the drinks, is not that good.

I really really really really reallllyyyyy tried to love this place.  I tried to come up with excuses for the horrible iced white mocha I ordered, but even denial couldn't get me to like it.  My drink tasted like burnt espresso beans in room temperature milk - I ordered an ICED beverage mind you.

Hooking up to the internet is not free, but depending on where you sit you can access free wifi from the surrounding buildings haha.  It's a nice place to sit, hangout, read, etc. It's just too bad my drink wasn't, well, drinkable.  I threw it out after a few sips.

One star for not being a starbucks and another star for hoping my second trip back will be a better experience.  I'll try a different drink, something to eat, and I'll let you all know if it gets any better :)

The Coffee Pot is a west side institution.  Ask anyone who has grown up on, lived by, worked around, visited the 9th Avenue corrider.  The coffee is not great, most of the pastries leave a rock in one's stomach, but the seats are cushy and they let you sit there through an entire Sunday Times.  The iced coffee is good.

Stop by, hook up your laptop and check it out.

A nice little place to either hang out with friends, grab coffee before work, or read/work. Lots of places to sit, friendly staff, Internet access. Sandwiches, muffins, and coffee are average, but tasty.

The only downside is the bathroom, where the floor is always a little messy. Otherwise, I recommend this spot.

At first glance this is a nice place but I promise you that your eyes deceive you, and I know why.  It's because there aren't a lot of good coffee shops in this area so it's like a bucket of dirty water after a trek across the desert.  The coffee here is nothing special at all but it is drinkable (see bucket metaphor above) and their food selections are standard and unremarkable.  I really can't bear that TV in the corner with some assenine 24 hour cable news playing.  Yeah, there are couches here but I have a 24 hour news flash for you: most cafes have them, it's not a big deal anymore.  And the couches in this place might as well not exist because EVERY time I go here, there are the same two guys asleep on the couch, taking up space and clearly not buying anything from the cafe.  True, I usually go there in the middle of the afternoon and these guys probably just got out of work, but still...go to a bar and drink your sorrows away, just get off the couch!

I want to give the Coffee Pot 3 stars instead of 2 just for existing in a place with very few coffee shops but eh, feelin' stingy.

Ewww. I used to go here all the time when I lived in the neighborhood because it was the only alternative to Starbucks. I support independent coffeehouses, but this place was pretty grimy.  Ack! I prefer hanging downtown in a clean coffeehouse.

The Coffee Pot gets 3 stars because when I am in the Hells Kitchen/ Times Square / Midtown Bermuda Triangle and need a place to hang between auditions or before a show I can come here instead of Starbucks...it's ok, not great. Am I crazy or did it use to be so much better? I remember liking coming to The Coffee Pot a few years ago but the last time I was here the place was dirty, there were some kind of odd men sleeping on the couches and although I do not claim to be a coffee aficionado the coffee is just ok and has me running for the bathroom, which isn't so clean.

This is a very handy place to meet people.  I sat in the corner on the cushioned banquette about a year ago for about an hour, hanging out with my friend Alissa and waiting to meet a blind date.  The next morning my ankles were covered with red welts.  Can you say gross?  I have never been back.

Cozy neighborhood coffeehouse that stands strong against all the Starbucks around it.  It maintains it's homey, local feel.  Comfy place to spend an afternoon reading papers, books, work on your laptop.

I am all for supporting independent coffee houses but the Coffee Pot fails to deliver anything special. Coffee is "decent" and nothing more; the pastries "okay" and the pre-packaged sandwhiches "rancid." Its useful as a meeting place (and for scoping cute neighborhood boys), but the dingy white couches and sometimes rank clientele do not invite you to stay.

I go here to work with my laptop. The staff is great, the clientele is interesting and there's lots of space. However the coffee could be better and the fare isn't so scrumptious. After sitting on the deceptively looking couches for prolonged periods of time, my ass fell asleep. The music is also touch and go - sometimes it's nice background music, other times it's blaring freestyle with Judy Torres singing in your ear taking you back to a time you might not be ready to visit. Overall a good alternative to Starbucks.

Great place to just sit for a few hours and read a book or talk with friends. The food and coffee are fairly average in both taste and price, but anywhere that you can escape the busy city for awhile is worth it. They do however have really good banana nut muffins, so grab one with your coffee.

I'm not very impressed with The Coffee Pot.  Sure, it is pretty spacious and has decent food, but it feels too much like a Deli attempting to mimic a cafe and not doing well on either front.  The couches are horrendously uncomfortable, the chairs not much better, and the outlet situation is the pits.  Also, the wifi is not free and that, my friends, is the proverbial straw.

Hell's Kitchen is lacking in great coffe lounges like Park Slope's Tea Lounge. The Coffee Pot is nearly all we got and it's just a stone's throw from our apartment door. I tend to think the coffee is fairly decent, but haven't perused much of the treats or other food. Coffee price however seems a bit steep, but then I am there to draw and can spend a couple hours there on about two cups so it won't break my piggay bank.

This place is one step above Starbucks.   Too bright, too corporatey, too uncomfortable.  I demand more from a neighborhood coffee shop!  I'm taking my frustration on the lack of good coffee shops in Hell's Kitchen out on this poor little mediocre place--which could be so much more.   And I heard they just underwent a renovation, which made me cringe.  I mean...the $60 IKEA loveseats are a nice touch, but the overall atmosphere is cold and the seating is crapmed, despite the spaciousness of the place.  If they had free wifi I might tolerate the atmosphere, but with only half-decent coffee and food I'll keep taking the subway when I want to spend an afternoon in a coffee shop.  And last time I was there, they didn't take credit cards.  Always annoying.
