I'm not a dancer, not into Techno, not a fan of the under 21 crowd, but I actually enjoyed this place. The atmosphere is amazing, I mean it is located in an old church after all. Theres nothing like taking some E, putting on some slutty clothes and dancing your ass off all while a stained glass potrait of Jesus watches over you.

I did find it rather difficult to get around considering everybody dances like they're an epileptic. I think I got smacked in the face numerous times...I even got shoved into a metal pole and bruised my arm pretty bad. I guess I'm getting too old for this kinda stuff (the music was SOOO loud!)...however you can pretty much dance however you want and nobody is going to make fun of you.

All the 18 year old girls wearing slutty outfits made my boyfriend extremely happy and me laugh my ass off so I guess it was a win-win situation.

Overall I had a good time, and I'll probably come back.... once my hearing returns

I hate the club, any club, in all honesty. I feel like it's always the same crowded, sweaty competition with the soundtrack of either an endless techno loop or hip-hop music I havent heard (because I dont listen to hip-hop much).

But I enjoy the church only on one night of the week. I used to religiously go for the gothic/industrial night on Sundays, and always loved the crowd, the music, the atmosphere. Then, it changed to 21+ and I was 19 at the time, so goodbye goth night :(

I just moved back from Florida and I've been going on Fridays, when they have a DJ spinning gothic/industrial tunes in half of the basement. Not near the eccentric crowd on fridays, but whatever because they play the music that I want to hear and dance to.

I just can't wait until I turn 21 (only a few more months!) so that I can return on sunday nights.

It IS a plus that it's 18+ for those of you who arent 21 yet. If you get there before 10 it's $10 and $15 after 10, whilst being free for people 21 and up.

I wanted to love this place....really wanted to. The atmosphere is cool, it's a church for Christ's sake!

However, the crowd is so strange in my opinion. Fresh faced, just turned 18 year olds; and techno dancers....I didn't see much in between. And the cover?!?! $15?! You guys are crazy for paying that.

Thank god I'm not under 21 anymore...

This place has an awesome atmosphere and dance music. All of the multi levels and small rooms play different music. Sometimes they get some really great DJ's here as well. Like The Crystal Method for example as well as a host of others. Cover charge may be a bit steep sometimes. My only real complaint is that with such a great atmosphere the attendees don't seem to match the atmosphere that much. This place is probably to expensive for the people that would make great people watching like goths or drag queens and such. Just a lot of social climbers and people wanting to sack someone for the night-but for straight people(but what straight bar is not like this or a gay one for that matter). I hear they serve sushi here, might be worth a try.

Whoa. I went there in 2005 and saw Fat Boy Slim...it was amazing except for the place being packed to the hilt (like fire-marshall-should-be-contacted-packed) and empty glasses all over the floor.

Crowded place + random empty glasses = broken ankle city!

ANYWHO...went back in 2007 with my then fiance on a Saturday night, paid the 10 dollar cover, and there was NO ONE in there...maybe 10 random guys standing around in the "smoky" main dance area. Lame alert.

Avoid this place, unless a big namer comes into town that sells out the joint. If so, watch the floor for debris.

It has the potential to be AMAZING.  C'mon, grand debauchery in a former church???  How can you go wrong?

But The Church does.  Very, very wrong.

The best and worst part about this place is the all-ages approach.  It was terrific when my 18-year-old sister visited and I could take her clubbing with me (there's a 10-year difference between us), but the other times I've been (my friends like this place) have been eh.

Getting hit on by a barely legal boy who can't buy me a drink is, frankly, rather annoying.  Asking one of them - in front of his boys (and I use this term strongly) - if he's sure he isn't a latent homosexual, however, is highly amusing.  But then the Mama Bear in me came out after his boys teased him relentlesly and I proclaimed loudly, "no, no, what the hell am I saying?  You look like a man who gets all the bitches!"  In retrospect, perhaps I should've given him a pity kiss or something ... to save him from being verbally destroyed by his friends.  Ah, such is life.  Karma.  I'll get mine.

But anyway.  I like the different themes in the various parts of the Church, especially the hip hop room.  I like to climb on stage and shake it -- plus, Im out of reach from all the aforementioned barely legal boys.

This place is fantastic if you're 18!  Or if you're bringing your 18-year-old sister out ... but, eh, I guess I'm pretty much over it.

"Um, wait, you don't have a wrist band.  You can't buy me a drink.  Why, exactly, are you talking to me?"  ;)

The only reason why I would step into this Church is to see one of my favorite artists.  I can't say I'm scared of many things but old churches top my list.  The idea is unique, go clubbing in an old church but so not for me and kinda freaks me out.  Saying that Moby will be playing there tonight.  I would SO go to see him do his thing.  I heart Moby.

There is something about being slightly drunk facing this huge stained glass piece of Jesus, bearing down on you, that ruins your night.

I'm not really a fan. I just like the resident DJs there enough to not want to maim the crowd. And rumor has it that the Greek guy who runs this place and all of SoCo doesn't like the French-guy who staked his claims in LoDo. Maybe one day I'll see a fight break out that would be worth watching.

Like the sentence next to the two stars when choosing the two star rating says, "Meh. I've experienced better."

After a much anticipated night this past week with Ed Rush + Optical and Frankie Bones and DJ Swamp, I gotta say this place is somewhat disappointing. The sound sucks. Period. Sucks big time, in fact. A previous review said there's no attitude here, but I found it to be somewhat pretentious. And the music could've been better for who the DJs were on this particular night. The place was somewhat empty as well, which is just ore evidence that this city seriously needs an EDM scene.

The bartenders were cool, and drinks are actually reasonably priced. I do like the layout as well, with all the different staircases and the outdoor chill areas - outdoor chill areas are always big bonuses.

So the venue itself is pretty cool (How could it not be as an old place of worship? There's something deliciously ironic about partying in a church.), but what goes on inside it not so much.

For some reason I used to like this place... I can't figure out why though. I mean when I was underage the place was awesome to me. Now that I have had the honor to club it up all over the city I am kinda like woah...
Drinks---uber expensive, unless you know a bartender then its not tooo bad...
The crowd... its a little intense. I feel like everyone is on the hunt for their next bad mistake after hours... I feel slightly molested when I come here... at least when I venture to the Hip-Hop room.  Shouldn't you ask a girl if she wants to dance instead of attack her?  Is chivalry dead?  AND for all you guys out there who attempt to swoon me with a free shot..? Save you cash and go talk to the girl with the booty shorts and heels... cause this girl IS NOT GOING TO TAKE IT!... phew..
anyways....
Its loud!!!!! O SO LOUD... I fee like I am getting old or something and I am not old at all. I like seeing my fav djs here and try to swindle my way to VIP cause that is soooo much better than hanging out with the masses.
EVERY-TIME I have been here someone asks me to buy some pills or white powder...and quite frankly that kinda drives me nutso!! ehhhh I hate that so...
Sometimes they have some pretty interesting entertainment... like a mini vegas show.  Watching people break dance is pretty awesome too!
All in all----its ok... i have been to better places!
Buy a few bottles and watch all the kids you babysat dance and act a fool(this happened to me)... its worth the laugh.

If there is a God, I need to come up with a really good excuse to explain the things I've done in this place.  I just don't see that happening.... I'm sorry.

I was here when I still lived in Denver almost every Friday and Sunday... ( I worked a kick back job) and we never held back.  Just writing this brings a smile to my face remember all the shenanigans we got into here... I've been thrown out more then a few times, not let in, and spent more money and time not knowing what in the world was going on then I wish I had.  I enjoyed every last minute of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is an old church... the alter torn out and a bar put in its place.  At least they took out the crosses.  Cheap strong drinks... long island was my all time favorite here @ $5.

Ok, must stop writing... this review is going to turn into a confession soon... whats the statute of limitations on stupidity?

Oh, be careful.... the bouncers are good here, (first hand experience) they walk up to you like your buddy and by the time they do, your usually to the point where you can't tell the difference... they ask to talk to you, ask you to walk with them... and BAM before you know what's happened... your standing outside!!!!  Sometimes in the snow.   DAMNIT.  I should of caught on to this trick after the first time.

Strong drinks and friendly club-goers keep me coming back to this place...along with the classy Prog House on Fridays.

I was worried about the 18+ feature of this club. It's really not a problem. Even the younger crowd seems pretty nice and responsible.

You have to see the trapeze act at this place. What other club in Denver has that?!?!?

You ever say to yourself *Damn I would go to church way more often if they served booze, played good dance music, had the occasional live band, had hot go go dancers up on podiums, and there were tons of very friendly attractive scantily dressed girls all over the place!*  Well this was the church that luis m attended in Denver for a week while on a business trip about 5 years ago.

Highly recommended by a Colorado native co-worker I made my way here on the very first night I arrived in Denver.  The cab driver let me know I was going to the right place if I was really into dancing and meeting new people.  I didn't know to interpret that as an honest passing along of info or some line that he gave to all the tourists that must ask about the place.  Surprisingly enough I came to find out that he was right.  I think I came to this club every night but Wednesday (currently I think they are only open Thursday thru Sunday).

Everyone I met was really friendly, enjoyed dancing, and enjoyed having good conversation.  I did have one surreal experience with a girl running up to me, pulling me in for a big bear hug, and proclaiming *OMG you're Filipino!*  Yikes...sorry I'm not...  Oh well.  Is there much of a Filipino community in Denver?  I durno, but this one sure did seem lonely.  She was my club buddy for the rest of the week even though I wasn't of her people.

It's hard to believe that someone took a high ceiling, stone walled, cathedral style church and turned it into a club...while still leaving much of the church intact.  There is still an altar, but instead of communion wafers and the blood of christ it serves shots of patron and training wheels (lime and salt for you rookies).  Many of the original church artifacts like statues, the glass stained windows, holy water thingies, and pews are still there making for one interesting night of boozing, dancing, and friendly interaction with the opposite sex.

The place has plenty of real estate to explore with several dance floors, several different lounge areas, and enough bars to keep the liquor flowing for everyone.  If you find yourself in Denver and you like dancing, flirting, and having a great time then I suggest stopping by this place.  Really, getting drunk at church should be enough reason to stop by this place for at least one night.

Forgive me father, for I have sinned...and loved every minute of it.

I went here to strictly makeout... The music was lame and God was calling, but I could find him because the 18-year old next to me kept shaking her big booty and I couldn't see past it.

My new boyfriend and I at the time went upstairs to a swanky couch and made-out some more and then I whispered that I felt so enlightened and he just stared at me blankly and took that as a sign start break dancing to the tehno DJ... When he was spinning on the  floor I escaped to the bathroom.  I found him when I came back sitting on the couch and praying... hmmm...

The Church is a cool place for a dance club in general, but I think that the shows usually suck and the crowd is usually 16 going on 19.... It can get crowded, but every time I have gone it has been like getting to the school dance right when it begins.... People stand in small groups or by themselves and the dance floor might have one couple and that one weirdo, but no one else.

* Star one is for taking a great urban location church and turning it into a dance club....So sexy!
** Star two is for live music.... Gotta groove
*** Star three is for letting me shake my tush and feel sexy and I got to makeout... yumm

The good, the bad, the beautiful--you'll find it all at the Church. I'm not a fan of techno, or clubbing in general, so this isn't the first place I think of going to on a night out. However, this is a really cool place, and I've enjoyed it every time I've been there.

What's coolest about this place is the multiple rooms. You're bound to find something you like here. They host big-time acts in the big auditorium room, but my favorite is the Goth room.

The down side, of course, is the bloated prices.

The Church is a good last-stop.  Go to a quality bar and get buzzed up beforehand, but don't show up late enough to regret paying $10 to get in.  And no, the drinks aren't discounted because of the cover charge.

Ahh... I just can't seem to resist the corny, least-crowded room downstairs where they play classic wedding reception songs.  I'm talking songs from the archive that I had completely wiped from my memory.  I'm pretty sure they played the electric slide.  The hip-hop room is aaaalways ridiculously and uncomfortably crowded (though I have elbowed my way to dancing on top of the huge speakers before...) and the upstairs techno area is mostly fun to stand around in and people watch.  If the weather's nice, spend your time on the patio, especially close to closing time... there's bound to be some entertaining drama on the streets!

This place is hit or miss. When all of the rooms are hopping it can be fun to transcend the staircase from techno to hip hop. I found the crowd to be sweaty and way to eager to grind on strangers. The music can really suck, but is tolerable when inebriated. A unique thing about this place, however, are the go-go girls who dance on platforms and swing from hoops above the dance floor. It is a good place for 18+ night if you're not 21 and want to find a social scene.

Honestly the best electronic music in town.  They may not always have the biggest name DJ's, but who they do book, the crowd always loves it, and everyone leaves really happy.  The drinks are very well-priced compared to the LoDo competition, and the bartenders are always friendly.  If you go to this club for good music and a chill crowd, you will have a great time!

At the end of the new testement Paul the Apostle talks a lot about how the church (of Jesus Christ) should be a place were are all are accepted for who they are.

Well after spending many a sunday morning at church with my family and many saturday night on a dancefloor I can tell you that 'The Church' Nightclub is much closer to Paul the Apostles definition than many a religious establishment I have visited.

You will expierence the irony of the last paragraph if you ever spend a night under the laser beams at this discoteque.  Being as this is a nightclub you will find a lot of 'Denver's Cool Kids' here, but the pretentious atitude is gone somehow.  The gyrating congregation accepts all whether they be wearing striped shirts, 3 sizes to large white tees, pinstriped-suits, glowsticks, leather pants, cowboy hats, cocktail dresses, J's, Sandals or bikini's.  Whether you smoke or not I highly recomend venturing out to either of the massive patios the church has just to find out what kind of interesting people you are going to end up meeting.

I gotta take address the haters... Electronica, House, Drum & Base, breakbeats, Trance or if you are musically uneducated, 'techno' is THE next evolution of music.  Those educated about music know that the cutting edge of music is always criticsized by the older, closed minded members of society.  Most of the pop & commercailized hip hop beats you hear on the radio are actaully instrumental, most of them are synthisized, modulated bass heavy, electronic beats very similar to the kind of music that has been rocking rave dancefloors for the past 20 years.  Producing Hip Hop or Rock music is incredibly easy compared with what it takes to produce a good electronic piece of music.  Your average Hip Hop, Rock, Latino or Jazz song has a maximium of 2 unique beats throughout the song, where as an electronica has between 10-15 beats througout the course of a 6 minute track.  When someone does ecstacy at a rave it speeds up their brains ability to process and comprehend the more 'complicated' music they are listening to.  This is the reason why electronica is such an 'aquired taste', most people's brains are only used too comprehending simplistic hip hop or rock beats.  You don't need to do drugs to 'get' techno, be little open minded and give it a chance.

I really can't think of a better place than the church to do that.  The Church is a unique nightlife expierence, this is one of the very few clubs at Denver that sometimes has a 'legitimate' line to get in.  As you pass through the foyer, saints immortalized in stone and stainglass will stare down at you.  Speakers the size of SUVs emit soul rattleing bass across a football field sized dancefloor.  Erily illuminated Go Go Dancers gyrate.  Far on one side of the cavernous room is a large VIP area elevated high above the the dancerfloor.  Convientent lounges and seating areas occupy the corners of the club.

In the mood for some Hip Hop or Rock? Venture downstairs and you will find a more 'urban' crowd bump'n grinding away to some of our city's best hip hop DJs.  This area is MC'd by and sometimes features club banging performances by local rappers.

Thurs - Great night for techno fans as they bring in big name international DJs
Fri -  The biggest clubnight in Colorado, I actaully don't mind paying cover (when i'm not on guestlist) the Traid Dragons bring in big house & trance DJs, the production of this night is really off the hook, its not unusaul to see gorgeous go go dancers, stilt walkers, lasers & acrobats suspended from the ceiling... get their early on some nights & you can get free tixs to concerts
Sat - Latino night on all three dancefloors, bring a date!!
Sun - If ur a goth this is the spot to be!! Hip Hop is played on the main floor & it is def hit or miss

When I was in super-hoochie post-break-up club mode this past summer I was frequenting the Church fairly often; most Friday nights. On Friday nights ladies over 21 get in free, which is the main incentive for going. The main floor is generally house/techno, the basement is split; one side playing hip-hop and the other playing danceable pop. The pop room is generally deserted or filled with the people who came on a whim but are a little too old for the scene. The hip-hop room is repulsive but generally packed; packed that is of shlumpy thugs in over-sized t-shirts and over-powering cologne. Lean against any wall or start dancing for more than 5 seconds and the hip-hop fellas will sidle up next to you and give you "seductive" murmurs like, "Hey, girl...damn you look good." Or even better, they mildly molest you as they go through the crowd by grazing your side-boob or sliding their hands along your ass. So if you are a stinky hoochie with wrap-up high-heels to your thighs; head downstairs.  I prefer the techno room, its the easiest to dance to....so to all the Caucasians: TECHNO ROOM.  The music is hit-or-miss, so just go loaded and single. It's great fun for ladies night since the Church brings out the man-hating cynic in me.

Here I go again, just not able to let the second-to-the-last reviewer (and same person who dissed on the Streets of London Pub-another new favorite place of mine) stand or maybe waver.  It is so funny how different people have different perspectives.  Anyhow, I would be going to The Church way more often if my fav nite there wasn't Sundays when I have to get up the next day at 5:30 a.m. to go to work.  My crowd hangs out in the basement on the active side.  All I've ever noticed about the quiet side is that it's a nice place to sit and talk if you actually want to have a conversation without yelling - I would never say any part of the Church is full of "old people" - talk about drinking yourself blind.  I have also met one of the cutest men I have ever seen in Denver in the basement (look for an old pic of Robert Redford when he was young) so as far as the reference to old people, hmmm, I really don't get it.  The gentleman I refer to couldn't have been older than 25 if even that.  On Sundays the basement music is goth-techno although on Friday nights, I really dont' have clue.  I'm not a hip-hopper - I have no problems slapping a man's face who cops a feel and it wouldn't be the first time but that's why I have never patronized the hip-hop scene, like it's hip to commit battery on a person (unlawful touching of another person without their permission) or try to hop on any lady who happens to be in eyeshot.  I do have a friend who is goth who goes on Fridays as well but I have never been on that night.  There are a lot of cool people who don't care what you look like - this crowd is not judgmental - if you like vanilla homogenized pigeon-holed martini and wine bars in Lodo, you will likely not like this lovely standby of the Denver goth scene, it will make you uncomfortable to be around forward-thinking people who don't fit into the square hole - if you are focused more on the spiritual nature of people ahead of how cool they look, then the Church basement on Sundays is for you - although a lot of folks in the basement are very original fashionistas and go for the high goth look, they don't care if you come in a suit and tie or jeans or whatever as long as you have a fun and open attitude.  How refreshing!  Lady Farin
