Oh my. Make sure you get some milk!
Between the three of us, we got some scrumptious chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream and two spicy hot chocolates. It was a real treat. We had to wait 15 minutes for our table, but it was totally worth the wait.
The cake - to die for. I couldn't quite describe it as velvety...but how to best describe it? Like a chocolate cloud melting on your tongue maybe?
Our one thought for future amendments would be to serve the chili hot chocolate in an espresso cup, as the full tea cup was overwhelmingly rich. Niether of us could finish it. The other recommendation to cut down on it's suffocating richness was to serve it with a side of vanilla ice cream.
I bought my boyfriend a box of 25 chocolates at $1.50 a piece. As a non-New Yorker, that seemed kind of steep, but I hope they're as wonderful as they appeared... 'Cause my boyfriend's worth millions. -

Uhhhh.. This place just isn't for me.
Came with a group of 7, and we were seated after about 20 minutes, which really wasn't bad. The host was really friendly and polite. Because of that, I really wanted to like the place, but I just don't.
The decor wasn't impressive, and the food and drinks were all not that memorable. The Cafe Lou was just like a thick cup of bland muddy water. The chocolate cake was moist, but nothing about it really stood out. The banana split and brownie sundae were both ok, again, nothing I would recommend.
I wish everything was mind-blowing so I could have a nice dessert place to go to, but I can even make desserts at home better than this. -
Review from Henry T.
We came here the day after New Year's but it was closed. So we came back the next day and had hot chocolate with some of their cake. While the servers are very nice and friendly, they aren't the quickest workers out there. We ordered 2 classic hot chocolate (1 with marshmallow, 1 with whipped cream), 1 dark chocolate and 1 dark chocolate spiced. It took them about 15 minutes to get the classic hot chocolate out, and about 30-35 minutes for the dark chocolates. What the hell took them so long? It's not like it was packed either. The slice of cakes came out with the dark chocolate cups.
My friends thought the classic hot chocolate was rich and sweet, but my impressions of the dark chocolate was mediocre at best. The spices burns your throat, sort of, and it's just not a burn you want with your hot chocolate. It just doesn't mix well with the dark chocolate sweetness and the sweetness from a marshmallow. If you do end up getting the dark chocolate spice, I'd recommend trying it with whipped cream, because the marshmallow didn't go well with the spices.
The cakes were decent. We shared the double chocolate cake (which comes in a slice) and a raspberry cake (which comes in a cupcake shape on a plate surrounded with raspberry syrup). Nothing spectacular about the taste/flavor, nothing you can't taste/find elsewhere. They were well baked and moist, though..which is a huge plus.
Ambience is nice. Faintly lit and quiet. Nice place to have a conversation with a date or an old friend.
Food/Drinks: 3/5
Service: 1/5
Ambience: 4/5 -

Reviews that say, "this is the best (insert item) I've ever had is not really that helpful". But their ice cream really is incredible.
Go have a scoop of the Bavarian Chocolate with a scoop of the Fresh Mint Chip. You will be so happy you did.
The sales/wait staff was really friendly and helped guide me purchase some chocolate bars to take with me too.
Well worth your time and money. -

Cutest place and delicious. I loved the ambiance too. We had to wait about 20 mins to be seated on a Friday night, so I can't complain. The almond cake that they gave us a sample of was tasty...very moist. If there is one word I can use that describes the desserts it's RICH. They don't give you a huge portion, but it is not needed. If you go with a group, i think everyone should get something different. I went with a group of fourths tried everything.
Flourless Chocolate cake with raspberry sauce...DEVINE
Black bottom butterscotch pudding, sweet and satisfying
Brownie sundae : rich, warm brownie with homemade ice cream...can't say anything bad about that
Hot chocolate float: I don't think ever had such rich hot chocolate before. I was thankful for the ice cream that was I there, but it was still fantastic.
Go here! It beats any restaurant dessert. -

Mmm-mmm! Have tried a couple of things here so far:
Black bottom Butterscotch- This one is my FAVORITE!! Light, creamy butterscotch with warm, melted chocolate at the bottom of the ramekin, all topped off with a dollop of coconut cream. All the flavors go so well together - the light texture makes you feel a little less guilty (although it's probably nowhere near "less fattening"). LOVE
Brownie Sundae- I feel this one is a traditional favorite sort of thing. Such a simple concept yet created in the most extravagant of ways. How do they do this??
Hot chocolate float- Why didn't I think of this before? Dark hot chocolate with ice cream is heavenly.
Black Chocolate stout- I'm not a fan of dark beer. So I don't know why I ordered it, but I passed it to my friend who drinks dark beer and he said it was good.
Chocolate chip almond cake- A must try! Has a cake-ish brownie texture to it. Delightful.
My goal is to try everything on the menu :P So I will be back. Again. -

It's cozy, they're accommodating and the fondue is really tasty. The Malbec wine was also reasonably good tasting.
Good for 4 people or a quiet date for two.
Flourless Chocolate Tort with raspberry sauce was exceptional as well. -

SO GOOD! My friend and I split the chocolate chip almond cake a la monde. I liked the texture of the cake. I was afraid it would be like marzipan or something but it wasnt it was delicious very decadent and the ice cream was creamy addition to the cake, it added moisture to it. I wanted to get some wine but I only saw the dessert wines and I dont like sweet wines but I decided to try the Framboise, the waitress said it was the end of the bottle and that I could have it for free, which is good because I didnt really like it. It tasted like a wine fruit shake.

This place is, like, the words "holy fucking balls" expressed in chocolate form.
I could simply end my review there, but my desire to express how good this place is won't let me. We walked in here at 10pm on a Saturday and were told we needed to wait 20 minutes. Normally I'd have just left, but this placed smelled soooooo good and it looked sooooooo cozy that my girlfriend and I decided to wait it out.
In only 10 minutes our table was ready. The staff is young, energetic, and seem to be insanely happy to work here. I don't blame them. My waiter called me by my first name all night (who does that?!) and checked up on us all the time to see how we were battling the array of dessert in front of us.
Speaking of which, we ordered the chocolate fondue, which was delicious. What really shines through here is the drink menu, though - in addition to a full array of ports and after-dinner drinks, they have CHOCOLATE BEER (wtf!!!), and an incredible menu of custom hand-made hot chocolates. I had a "Cafe Lou" which is half coffee and half dark drinking chocolate. My girlfriend had something else that was almost a fondue in and of itself; it was like dark drinking chocolate with cloves and cardamom and other crazy shit. It was awesome.
Service is quick and painless. The tables are cramped but it's more fun that way, trust me. The one downside is that it's expensive, but it's WELL worth it.
Go now. -

Go to a corner store & buy a pint of Ben & Jerry's and save yourself the $$$!! Uggghhh, this place... 1st the hostess looked at us like we were from another planet when we said we wanted a table for 4 at 7:30 on a saturday night. 15 min wait, not bad. We wait. 2 seconds later she comes back to me & asked me again if i would like a table!!! Ummmm, hellooooo, you just asked me 2.5 seconds ago you freak!! YES! TABLE for 4!!! They seat us, tiny little place, LOUD as HELL. We wait, and wait... and wait... kinda like a cartoon where they show the words over the screen 6 WEEKS LATER... we wait. They give us menus, we order 2 brownie sundaes@ $8.95 each, a strawberry icecream for $4 & a glass of proseco $8... and wait, and wait, and wait... It arrives, it's good, very RICH, very SWEET, VERY SMALL!!! We eat & WAITTTTTTTTTTTT for the bill.... we pay & WAITTTTTTTTTTT for the change... as we wait some guy comes over to our table & says I hate to say this, but if you are done I need your table!! WHAT????? we are waiting to get the frig outta here you weirdo!!! No wonder the lines out the door (I'm sure it's because of the wait & not the icecream)!!! Unreal! NEVER AGAIN!!! BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

A room of all chocolate? This place is a dream!
They have wine pairings for cake- so fancy it seems.
Come sit at the bar and they'll let you watch creation-
But you'll surely leave with a sugar-high sensation! -
Review from Vivian H.
After having dinner at Dao Palate, it was time for dessert. But I was the only one having dessert, so sad. Desserts are just that much better shared.
At 10pm, this place was packed with people. There was even a wait to be seated. Luckily, the wait was only 10 minutes. After said time of wait, the waiter called for us. "Now where is my Vivian?" I beamed and chimed in, "Your Vivian is right here." He deserved a kiss on the cheek!
We sat down and the waiter came by with our waters. Immediately, I had this feeling I knew the waiter from somewhere. But I couldn't quite place it. So for the next hour or so, I was racking my brain trying to figure it out. And in the meantime, I ordered a chocolate layer cake and my date had the chocolate tea by Harney and Sons. The tea smelled so good and it was quite alluring. Before my slice of cake came out, the waiter brought us a morsel of almond cake. It was the amuse bouche. Wow, this place was no joke.
The chocolate layer cake was heavenly. Moist and not too sweet. I had a few bites and had the rest wrapped up for home. I can proudly say that I enjoyed some two days later and it was still very good.
I finally figured out where I knew the waiter from. I asked if he worked at the Greene Grape and indeed he did! Voila! Mystery solved! He is one of the nice baristas and I always see him there in the morning. He said he recognized me also (could be bunch of bullocks), but it was nice to figure things out. I'll be sure to holla at him at GG soon!
This is a great date spot. Perfect for a first date or for the ball-and-chain also. Romantic and cozy. And besides, who doesn't love chocolate? Chocolate can bring world peace... -

Been here twice now. The first time, I had the chocolate layer cake. It was generous slice, but not huge. I thought it was light, packed full of chocolate, and not too sweet. I'm normally not a fan of so much chocolate or the frosting but I would definitely eat a jar of the frosting alone. You definitely need to order coffee or a glass of milk to go with it, water just won't do. The second time, I had the flourless chocolate cake with the raspberry sauce. It was a bit grainy and not all that good. I was a bit disappointed and wish I would have stuck to the chocolate layer cake. A bit small but an intimate environment.

if you love chocolate, this is the place to go!
Shared the chocolate fondu, comes with peanutbutter, marshmellow, banana, cheesecake and strawberries. it was great! All of the chocolate is made in house, and so is the ice cream. when you sit down, they give you a small sample of something off the menu. really cute. -

Boss took the office here to celebrate...I'm not sure what, but who cares?! Complementary tiny scoops of chocolate sorbet to start off with; very very delicious. And free, which made it even yummier. Really rich and smooth taste without being so strong that your mouth forever tastes like chocolate. The dessert to my dessert was the brownie sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Oh. My. God.
This was quite possibly the best mint chocolate chip ice cream I HAVE EVER HAD. It actually tasted like peppermint that you buy in a supermarket, not like whatever is marketed as "mint" nowadays. A very rich, lowkey flavor that complimented the strong chocolate in the brownie very well. Again, not only was the chocolate flavor rich, but it wasn't overpowering or overly sweet. And the cherry was an actual cherry! Not those disgusting maraschino cherries no one really likes anyway!
Someone else in our group got the special of the day, which was a chocolate almond cake that she ordered because she isn't a fan of solid-chocolate anything. She was talking about how amazing that cake was for days, so I'm guessing it was a'ight. :)
I bought a little baggie of chocolate covered ginger to go, and my family tore into it like a pack of rabid dogs, so I'm guessing that was good, too.
If you have a sweet tooth (or in my case, a mouth of sweet teeth), definitely come in one day and try EVERYTHING. -
Review from Julia B.
I was born in Switzerland so I was born with the natural instinct to (a) love chocolate and (b) love quality chocolate. None of that Hersheys crap.
Needing a place for dessert after the Chip Shop, my friend and I wandered down 5th Ave to this lovely place. The moment you walk in, you are surrounded by all things chocolate and a display of delicious looking chocolates, truffles and ganache.
A few moments after we were seated in the back, we were given a small scoop of chocolate sorbet. To me, sorbet and chocolate don't go together but it was rather good! What a treat!
My girlfriend and I shared the Chocolate Layer Cake and the Chocolate Pudding, both decadent, rich and tasty! I love that each dessert on the menu can be paired with vino, which I'd love to give a try next time. I must say that when my Chocolate Pudding arrived, I noticed a small spider on the whip cream. I wasn't too bothered by it but my friend insisted we tell them so we did and they not only replaced it but even took it off our bill. Much appreciated!
This is a great place to catch up with a friend or treat a date. It's small, cozy with friendly service! -

I had a groupon coupon I used to purchase some hot chocolate. As soon as I walked in the establishment, I felt like I was in heaven with the wonderful aromas of chocolate. I ordered the milk hot chocolate with marshmallows and it was okay. The taste was very rich and still had the dark chocolate taste that I don't prefer. I also ordered a chocolate cupcake that was just okay as well. The chocolate was very rich and reminded me of dark chocolate. They have a small seating area where you can sit and eat your desserts. I love chocolate and would return to sample some other goodies.

A gorgeous room, dimly lit by lamp light and rich with dark woods & French Bistro-chic accoutrements. There's a bar and tables, but the space is intimate and cozy. Read, take your special someone when you're trying to set a mood. They have a list of desert wines & ports as well as "seasonal" beers...but that's not really me.
The deserts are expensive but that's part of the destination desert concept.
Chocolate pudding was rich & delicious but left me wanting something. The three layer chocolate cake was divine. Without a question the best I've ever had (though Midtown Cafe in Binghamton comes close, and that slice is $3.75. I'm telling you food made with love tastes better).
The chocolate brownie sunday made with chocolate sorbet was unthrilling. Hot Chocolate is cracklike but intense, & I would dissuade anyone from ordering the frozen version. Bring extra cigarettes to kill the residual fat on your palate, you'll have a lot. -

Let me give you three scenarios:
First. You're in Park Slope and just finished dinner. It's too early to go home, but you're not in the mood for just a bar. Your girlfriend or boyfriend has a chocolate problem. You have a drinking problem. Let's combine both of your problems.
Second. You're 11 and your parents are damn cool. It's your birthday and they forgot to make a cake. To compensate they have decided to take you and six friends to The Chocolate Room for an indulgence of your choice.
Three. You love Oprah. Oprah loves cake. She loves the Chocolate cake here. You will try anything she endorses.
But seriously, this place makes a mean chocolate layer cake, banana split, chocolate peanut butter cake with pretzel crumbs, etc. The hot chocolate is like syrup. Not to mention, they have suggested alcohol pairings for each desert. My favorite drooling spot is the back counter watching the magic happen. How's that for a night cap? -

so after brunch we went to get dessert, i been to the other chocolate room year ago , never got to review it.. so here we go.
Flourless chocolate cake - this was on special, very rich and satisfying, with a great berry sause
Brownie sundae coffee ice cream - this was delishes with the brownie encompassing all the other tastes together
Butterscotch custard - i am not a fan of butterscottch but this was mell made.. and the cookie cracker was very good, of course it had "chocolate room" written on it.
good spot to come and get your sweet on. -

It's okay... do NOT get the over-hyped chocolate cake. Even with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, it's still dry... and dry.
The little scoop of chocolate sorbet they start you off with was the best thing I've tried here- super dark chocolate! -

When your blood sugar is low this is definitely the place to go! I am not a sweets kind of guy but when I am FORCED to partake in my share of empty calories I'd rather do it at the Chocolate Room.
I highly recommend the brownie sundae and chocolate layer cake. -

Can't believe I forgot to write a review for one of my favorite joints!!
Going to Chocolate Room is always a special treat. Their food makes me feel like I died and gone to heaven. We definitely need more dessert places like this.
EVERYTHING at the Chocolate Room is delicious. I love how they start with a nice amuse bouche treat of sorbet or almond cake depending on the season
My favorites are the Chocolate Cake, the Brownie Sundae and the Butterscotch Custard.
I also ALWAYS order the Almond Cake when it is on the menu. I wish they would make this a regular item
Run to the Chocolate Room and you won't be disappointed!
Great date place -

It's a little fancy, but life-altering. I don't even love chocolate and I measure time in increments of Time-Lapsed-Since-Last Chocolate Room-Visit.
Buy by the bite-sized piece. Overload on hot cocoa. Get crazy with the chocolate port. And everyone's nice! -
Review from Nicole C.
It's almost TOO obvious that I would love a place like The Chocolate Room.
When you first walk in you're greeted by a display case of gorgeous chocolate truffles & bonbons. As you further inside, you realize that the cafe is much larger than it seems from the outside. Brick walls with French decor and dark wooden furniture makes this place cozy and intimate, without being overly romantic.
We were seated right away at 5pm on a Sunday evening and were given a complimentary amuse-bouche of Chocolate Sorbet. What a great way to start!
Their 3-Layer Chocolate Cake has been featured in Oprah's O Magazine, but we were sold on the Chocolate Fondue for Two-- 60% Belgian chocolate with fresh fruit, pound cake, and homemade marshmallows.
Repeat: Homemade marshmallows! The other dippers did a nice job of complimenting the luscious fondue-- the chocolate was very dark. MMM.. just how I like it. My only minor complaint is that I wish the flame was a little stronger to keep the chocolate melted. It started to cool and thicken up soon after it arrived at the table.
I also tried a sip of the Cafe Torino- a cup of bittersweet hot chocolate with a shot of espresso topped with steamed milk. I don't think I need to describe how amazing this was. A DREAM for any chocolate & coffee lover.
Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and helpful. We were allowed to sit and chat for as long as we wanted without feeling rushed. I also love that they carry a large selection of wines, ports, and chocolate stouts, and the menu suggests pairings for each dessert. I'll definitely be back for that! -

The staff here was just lovely. I had the creme brulee and my friend ordered the chocolate layered cake. It was superb! Great ambiance. Try the counter seating. You get the best view in the house because that is where all the desserts are prepared! Once again 2 thumbs up to the people that run this place!

"Don't tell me there's any good Chocolatier in NYC, and don't tell me that's that bald guy's place in Union Sq"
My friend was very doubtful when I tried to hook him up for Chocolate Room. He is not a snob that always wants to stay in Manhattan, but he is very picky when it comes to chocolate. I wonder why he doesn't have a lot of pimples. Gotta ask him.
Anyhoo, my latest visit was on last Thursday night. On weekends this place is ridiculously packed. Chocolate isn't a seasonal business, so no matter how hot/cold outside this place is not really empty. But we came in an hour before they close up so it wasn't so packed.
We sat on a bar space, which is my fave place because it is always entertaining to see how the creation is made.
I ordered shake with coffee n chocolate ice cream.
My buddy ordered hot brownie with vanilla ice cream.
He wanted to try their infamous chocolate layer cake, and I told him it would be too much since he ordered hot brownie but he didn't care so we ended up order it.
How this choco critic love what he ordered? It satisfied him.
For me, their chocolate is very fresh. I can smell n taste it. Well, cacao is imported so it's almost impossible to sense the freshness of cacao, but this place make it real good.
Next day, I got txt from him saying - "I think I have a chocolate hangover!!!"
You know how good it was. -

Great spot for chocolately desserts. Don't miss the Black Bottom Butterscotch pudding, unless you must have the chocolate layer cake, which is excellent and classic. It's small and has few tables so you will likely have to wait if you walk in during peak hours. But takeout works just fine :)

Review from Neil B.
I date a chocolate fanatic and I think I finally have learned how to truly make her happy...bring her to the Chocolate Room! And while I am less than obsessed with chocolate, this place made me a fan as well!
The first thing that impressed me when we arrived was the friendliness of the people who work there. It was a rainy busy night and perhaps it is the power of chocolate but it was like landing in good mood land! There was not a soul in the place who was not smiling and in a good mood (though maybe this morning when some of them got on the scale, their facial expressions may have changed!).
We were given free samples of their homemade chocolate sorbet which was amazing and when you give me free samples without my having to ask, you've won! So for me it was a no brainer and I ordered a delicious scoop of chocolate sorbet. For my friend, it was chocolate almond cake (that comes with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream). It was so rich that I was able to grab the last three forkfuls when she wanted to, but could not finish!
I don't rate a lot of places a 5, but The Chocolate Room has earned my vote! -

We went to a restaurant nearby and decided to skip dessert and have dessert in the Chocolate room. Best decision ever.
Before we even looked at the menu, each of us got a free sample of chocolate ice cream. It was delicious. We tried the Butterscotch Custard and the Chocolate Flourless cake with raspberry sauce. One of my friends has never liked Flourless cake before and said it was amazing! We replaced the coconut whipped cream with regular whip cream (there was a veto against coconut in our party) and the butterscotch custard was perfect. Needless to say, there was not a scrap left on our plate.
The cost of the desserts were about the same price you would get when ordering dessert in a restaurant. Definitely skip dessert at the restaurant and come here! -

You are initially met with water and a small helping of ice cream / gelato, chocolate. Deep, rich, high cacao concentration, wonderfully blended with the lightness of ice cream.
The Chocolate Room is what Max Brenner's would be if it wasn't a tourist choked mess. The Chocolate Room offers a much more pleasant atmosphere and thus is a much better place for getting your chocolate on.
I tried the Young's Double Chocolate Stout. It's a solid stout, with notes of chocolate, and I enjoyed it immensely. However if you're in for a serious chocolate fix, this is a good pairing, but won't really fulfill the craving.
You can purchase chocolate by the individual piece for reasonable prices. They had a Chilean Chocolate spike... amazing. It hit both my dark chocolate button and my spicy food button. =D
The one downside is the music. They play irritatingly up beat bass music on loop. It's like being serenaded by a fat Oompa Loompa with a cheerful gas problem. -

Finally went to the Chocolate Room. It's a nice quaint place. The desserts are rich and filling. It's not only chocolate that they have there, so there are options for non-chocolate. Their root beer float is really good. There was a chocolate ganache cake that we ordered and it melted in my mouth. We went on an off day, where there were not too much people as others have mentioned, so we took advantage of asking the waitress what was good. There were so many options, but we had to limit ourselves.
We went to the one on Park Slope, Brooklyn. -

If there were such a thing as perfect ambiance, then this place has it. From the dim lighting, the hushed voices of both the customers and staff, and glasses of champagne accompanied with decadant chocolate cake, this place is perfect. I walked in after a night of rock climbing at a local gym and couldn't have felt more out of place in what I was wearing. This is definitely a hip local spot. Guys (and girls) brings your girlfriends. You will not regret it.
