Where is the shrimp?
Happened to be in the area and decided to give it a try when we walked by. Not so friendly greeting, actually no greeting, but that is what it is. The test for us is always the shrimp fried rice. The flavor was good but seriously lacking shrimp. I think that there were maybe 5 in the pint. All in all "eh" and would not go out of the way to go again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Frances M.California City, CA746121Feb 26, 2024
El pollo de naranja estaba picoso y rico. Hot tea, white rice and Orange chicken-spicy! Small space, great prices, fast service, parking in front too.

This little place is the quintessential Mom and Pop Chinese restaurant. I really don't like reviewing food to go, but it looks like to-go food is their primary market. I went with some chow fun and some chow mein. The chow fun had the best actual noodles I have had in some time - multiple layers and more noodles than meat and vegetable. The flavor was a little bland and the dish was missing that wok hei flavoring. The chow mein was similar - a little bland and I actually prefer thinner noodles. Still, the cost was right (just around $20 for two dishes) and it does look like they are really trying. I'll probably be back to see what other dishes are like. This was the third time trying to get food (they were closed previously), so be aware that they appear to keep inconsistent hours.

Excellent food tonight . The sautéed Chinese greens, ginger onion prawns, foil chicken and hot amd sour soup were all super delicious. People that work here are always very nice too

I was craving Chinese food and so happy to have found this restaurant!
I ordered chicken chow mean, sweet and sour chicken, beef broccoli, and pork fried rice. They crammed those little boxes filled with steamy food goodness. Everything was hot and fresh!
They do party trays but you have to call a day ahead for notice. The food is perfect for a party so I'm planning to go back!
I sat and waited for my food and could hear the sizzling sounds in the kitchen.
Inside there are about 5-6 small tables to sit.
The manager's name is Waylin and he was very nice!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cathy N.Concord, CA7104Oct 9, 2023

The perfect little family owned Chinese restaurant. My wife and boys decided to try this place tonight and I'm glad we did. We tried several items on the menu, including the salt and pepper chicken wings, the orange chicken, shrimp chow men, Mongolian beef and egg rolls. Everything we had was good. the orange chicken was especially notable, as it seems that not everyone gets the flavor right and this orange chicken had a big crunch to it, with super tender chicken on the inside (just as the wings did).
The service there was very nice as well. The owner served us and was especially sweet with us. My infant was dropping things and the owner offered to wash his bottle cap when he saw that it had made it to the floor. Additionally, something you don't see much anymore, he packed out leftovers for us , which was super helpful since the kids were a handful.
One aspect that we appreciated were the classic notes in the decor. There was a DVD TV combo on next to the cashier desk, which we chuckled about since it had been decades since we had the same TV in our own bedrooms. They also put our youngest in an old school high chair which was wild to see.
We will be back (often)!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 439373213Apr 9, 2023
Hidden gem. Food was delicious and portions were good. You do have to wait 20-30 mins but it's well worth it.

The Chinese Kitchen is right off of Clayton Rd, in a stretch of shopping centers that are fairly older, and many people would probably just drive right by if they're not familiar with the area. There's actually a couple of places here that I would visit from time to time, but for some reason, I just never been down to The Chinese Kitchen even though they've been here for some time now.
From the outside, it really doesn't look like much, but once you get inside, well, it probably actually looks even worse, so be warned, lol. It's definitely a family run style restaurant, and it doesn't appear they offer dine-in currently and just focused on takeout, so in that sense I guess the decor doesn't really matter.
The staff here are pretty friendly though. The lady at the front was helpful.
The menu here is a pretty typical Chinese restaurant menu. The prices are okay. A bit pricier than I had expected for a place like this, but at least the portions here are good so it makes up for it. It's comparable to at least New Lim's just down the street off Clayton Rd as well.
I ordered a couple of things today, the combination chow mein, and a hot and sour soup.
The hot and sour soup was pretty good actually. Just enough flavor of both the hot and the sour, and the stuff inside the soup was plentiful. If you're someone who likes tofu, they put quite a bit of it in here. They also put in a couple of shrimps, and the other usual ingredients that would come in this soup. It won't blow you away by any means, but it's a solid hot and sour soup. And as someone who has had a lot of hot and sour soup, this one is definitely on the better of the spectrum.
The combination chow mein was not bad. The ingredients were plentiful inside there. Plenty of meats and such to accompany the noodles itself. Makes for a tasty dish, and there was a lot more of it than I expected, so the pricing aspect was at least reasonable in the end. I do feel that the noodles themselves felt a bit overcooked, as it came out a bit mushier than I would prefer and doesn't have that same kind of doughiness you would like from the thick noodles. Either that or the noodles they're using were not fresh. I mean, it wasn't bad, just could've been better. The ingredients other than the noodles were good though.
Certainly one of those situations where you don't judge a book by its cover. While the decor is very runned down, and probably not a place you would walk into casually, the food they offer does leave something to be desired. I haven't tried some of their other dishes yet, but flavor wise, they are there. I would want to come back and try some of their other dishes in the future.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle M.Livermore, CA1326141Apr 16, 2023
In Concord looking for some good Chinese food so so ordered shrimp fried rice, dried fried pork and neither one was a hit. I grew up on Chinese food from Oakland, this stuff here was dry and nothing like a taste I was looking for, sadly. Too bad too sad this won't be a spot aI frequent.
I'll be on the hunt for good Chinese food in the Concord area. Any tips or suggestions, hmu & let me know.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
