2 reviews for The Cherry on Top
I got Harpoon IPA for $1.50! The sandwiches seem expensive but are HUGE! Stuffed with meat! I've only seen something like it in New York.
The owner was very nice as was the staff. They even brought water out for my dog! Great potential!
In addition, they have European candy! POLISH CHOCOLATE! Impossible to get in miami..til now.
Favorite place in the grove!
After finding out that the new owners of "The Gastropub at Jake's" were opening a new spot that offered an "...extensive wine list" and supposedly hard to find meats and cheeses, I was excited about this so-called "wine bar with a twist".
The flyer promoted this very unique place that Miami seems to lack, with promises that would make any wine and food connoisseur cheer with utter excitement. My wife and I ended up swinging by one night only to find out that the advertisement was far, far, far from any promises.
Their "extensive wine list" screamed sheer mediocrity. I have found better wine list at places like "The Cheesecake Factory" and that's not saying much. The place is a joke, from the over priced food found in the lower floor, to the disgusting premade sandwiches inside their fridge. The cheeses on the deli were more then unacceptable, I even found MOLD growing on one of them.
The wine bar upstairs was another story, cute, elegant, small, private, however, a little bit bright but OK. It seemed like the disappointment from downstairs was starting to be forgotten. Until that's is, the place next-door "Aladdin's" began their belly dancing shows. The private, quiet, elegant place upstairs became a loud, obnoxious headache. The music is so loud it kills the mood to everything that place "claims" to be.
In the end "The Cherry on Top" failed to deliver anything it promised. The supposed "wine bar with a twist" ending up being a wine bar with disappointment. There was nothing really unique that set this place apart from other places that I have visited before. It all sounds great on paper and even in pictures it looks promising. But beware, The Cherry on top is a fine example of; if it sounds and looks too good to be true...it probably is!

History
Established in 2009
The Cherry on Top is the creation of owners Alisa and Baruch Pletner, who have been working on it since February. It is a unique (for Miami!) concept combining a gourmet market and wine shop with an intimate and elegant upstairs wine bar. We hope that it will be a great place for people to shop for hard to find chocolates, cheeses, carcuterie, and wines and a refuge from the everyday hustle and bustle of the Grove.
