What an awesome place!

Any place that condones sampling of every cheese/meat in their shop, I am all for! Right when you walk in you have the employees just giving you cheeses after cheeses. You ask about a certain cheese and after giving you a wonderful explanation, they're offering you a toothpick with a sample! We came here and ordered some Cranberry Chipotle cheddar, French herb salami, Applewood smoked cheddar, Vlaskaas (probably my favorite), and Toscano Salami (my fav meat).

I would definitely come here if you are a cheese/meat fan! Their landjaegers are also very tasty and only $1.50 a piece.

Screw Kraft Macaroni and Cheese... this place is the cheesiest.

Being an individual that loves to try new things, The Cheesemonger's Shop is a godsend for branching out in the world of cheeses.

We had not even completed our descent form the street level above before being greeted by a cheery individual behind the counter.  Applewood-smoked cheddar was the first poison and it was a dangerous one. I could only picture a fantastic cheeseburger being made with this stuff! So great. We followed this up with the cotswold which was not unlike Lays sour cream and onion potato chips. Would be wonderful as a dip.

It seems that leaving this retail space with a mere two tastings would be next to impossible, so we were happily greeted with more. One being a mixture of gouda and a stout beer. Interestingly smokey, yet amazing.

Couple more tastings aside - both smoked and aged goudas, cheddars, and more - we walked out with our selection of an aged gouda and spreadable "Le Roule" alongside some crackers, and a blood orange sparkling beverage thingy. All at reasonable prices.

Oh, and I'm somewhat glad I was able to control myself and not drop a ton of money on their great German beer selection... but if I ever head to Leavenworth again - I'll be back.

I love cheese! I also love salami!

This is a must stop while in town even if you just want to sample cheese.  But I bet you won't leave empty handed!

They also have a huge selection of bottled beer and wines to purchase along with other cheese related gadgets.

Give it a go!

Possibly the best store in leavenworth.
When you Walk down the stairs to the basement it smells like old socks, other than that -this store is great. The cheeses are about $20/pound. So the smart thing to do is buy 1/4lbs and take different ones home. These are not the kind of cheeses you make sandwiches out of- these are the kind of cheeses you savor with a glass of wine. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable, oh and has it been mentioned they give out free samples?? LOTS of samples, maybe that's why the cheese is so pricey. However, if you yourself are a cheesemonger this place is heaven.

I dig this shop.

I walked downstairs to the Cheesemonger's Shop, and for it being middle of winter, the smell that arose from this place was still very ripe!

The staff was very helpful, and won't let you wonder around the shop until you've had multiple samples of cheese.  Full of cheese?  Then a sample of meat.  No?  How about mustard?

I actually didn't buy any cheese, only because I couldn't think what I would use with it.  The samples were tasty though, thanks!

We did buy a few bottles of wine.  It was the only place on Sunday morning that was selling wine.  Can't a girl get some vino 10:00am on Sunday?!

I was thinkin' of my bud K-Town while here and how she probably would have eatin' all this delicious cheese... and then paid the price later.

What did the Sushi say to the Bee?

Wassssaaaabi!?

You know you at least smirked, it's ok, so did I after the friendly counter attendant dropped this bomb on me. (she was giving me a sample of wassabi cheese, which was delicious) The staff in general was extremely sweet, efficient, and helpful.

In addition to various imported cheeses (they don't make any of their own, which would be nice, someone should get on that!) they also offer various cured meats (get some landjaegers, you'll thank me later), sauces and a VERY good selection of imported and craft beers (that you buy by the bottle). They had various imports I haven't seen anywhere else in Washington and at surprisingly reasonable prices (even if you were to buy them somewhere other than a tourist town).

Keep up the good work guys, and thanks for making me feel welcome!

This is a great little shop in Leavenworth.  They have a large array of cheeses, and a friendly staff eager to help you sample the cheeses until you find something that you just have to have.

We are big blue cheese fans, so we sampled several.  In the end, we left with a 1/4 lb chunk of the smoked blue cheese...which was amazing.  We ate every bit of it in our hotel room before the night was even over... complete with a plastic knife, a paper plate, and a bottle of Lindemans Lambic Peche :)

There were also some amazing looking meats in the case that I wish we would have had the chance to try.  Maybe next time!

The store also boasts a large array of beers (sold individually, so you branch out and try some new things) and local wines.  You can grab other small items like crackers, sauces, and mustards, too.  Btw, the gal helping us even offered us a small plate and knife since we were staying in a hotel.

In you are in Leavenworth, make sure and stop by this place.  We loved it!

They have excellent cheeses!  So very yummy.  I love their Cotswold.   They also have great Gouda.  I bought some cheese there and let me tell you it barely lasted two days.   You must visit!

Wanting to be the most wonderful daughter in my father's eyes I took him to The Cheesemonger's Shop.  I remembered from the last time I was there they had Seltzer's Lebanon Bologna which I find to be totally disgusting but than again I don't eat beef, actually even before I didn't eat beef I found Lebanon Bologna to be disgusting anyways.

My father LOVES the stuff so again wanting to be the wonderful, perfect, amazing daughter I took him down the stairs to The Cheesemonger's Shop.  There it was in the sausage case sweet and summer Seltzer's Lebanon Bologna!  Ding!  Ding!  Ding!  I win best daughter of the day for getting my father something he craves and loves and can't find back home in San Diego!  He grew up just miles form Seltzer's so it was a real treat for him to buy some and snack on it while he and I roamed the streets of Leavenworth.

However I do have to knock a star off for the fact that they are not handicapped accessible my mother said she was fine sitting on a bench and waiting for us but I wish she would have been able to go in and join us down there.

Worth the trip out to Leavenworth.

This shop was definitely on the top of my list if I ever got to Leavenworth.  Of course it was a little insane to try to truly enjoy a shop like this at Oktoberfest.  Very crowded, hard to see everything, but a great staff giving samples and taking care of anything you need.  Impressive in that sea of people.

The real reason you come here is for the cheese case.  It boasts beautiful cheeses and a few select meats.  You will feel overwhelmed with the choices but trust me, it's a good thing.

The wine and beer choices are very complimentary.  And they do include a few hard to find choices.  They also had a nice variety of crackers, jams, mustards to go with your purchase.

And the staff was very nice even with the crowds of people.  A definite stop.

Oh boy, oh boy do I love cheese. If you are a cheese lover like me, then you need to check this place out when you are in Leavenworth. They will give you a little sample of any cheese you'd like. The woman who was helping us was very helpful and knowledgeable about her cheeses. I was so blown away I decided to get a half pound of their Whiskey Cheddar. Now it is in my refrigerator and you can't have any. Well, maybe you because you are kind of cute, but not you.

I want to LIVE here.

It's best for my waistline (and their business) that I don't live here, but this is the must hit in Leavenworth for me.  Cheese.  Meat.  Wine.  I don't need anything else, I'll tell you that.

Except those little chocolate eggs with the toys inside.  OH WAIT, THEY HAVE THOSE TOO!

The Cheesemonger's Shop is small and a little hard to find (down a narrow stairway - look for the hanging sign), but definitely worth finding.  For such a small place, they have so many different cheeses, plus sausages, and a good beer and wine selection.

I generally end up hitting this place at least twice when I visit Leavenworth because I end up eating all the cheese I buy meaning to take home...

I truly enjoyed this place.  They give out samples when you ask, the staff is knowledgeable, and they don't pressure you to try stuff you don't want just because they think it's fabulous.

For you lactose intolerant people they have a pretty great selection of non-cow's milk cheese.  Some of their prices are a bit high but there are some great buys there too.

Also, if you're like me and end up with the drive back to Seattle in 90 degree temperatures in your future but you really want some cheese, no problems.  For $2.50 they'll sell you a reusable insulated bag with an ice pack.  Our cheese survived fine on one of the hottest days of the year (thus far) with an hour stop at a friends house even!

Say Cheese!!!
The Cheesemonger's shop is nestled high in Washington's Cascade Mountains in the 'Bavarian Village' of Leavenworth. Come breath the clear mountain air and soak in the sweeping vistas. Walk down the short flight of stairs into the cool stone basement that houses The Cheesemonger's Shop, a haven of gourmet cheeses and fine foods.....A sampler's paradise =)

You must try the Irish Dubliner - Wow! This Irish cheese is a very robust cheese. It is sharp and very nutty, with a sweetness that gives it a very unique quality. Pairs well with all beers, sweet white and robust red wines. It also pairs well with yummy Ritz Crackers, I finished the whole box once lol..

They even have Limburger- Imported from Germany- this stinky washed rind cheese has a soft and mild interior. It reminds me of the cheese from LoonyToons..

German Butterkase- This very mild and creamy German farmer's cheese is The Cheesemonger's Shop's number one best seller. It has a light cream color, large number of small eyes, and a smooth and buttery flavor. A children's favorite.

This place is great!!! From Imported cheeses, wine, sausages, and various other imported goodies....and I repeat wonderful customer service.

+++WARNING.....from the moment you start taking samples you'll be wondering why your carrying one block of cheese in each hand and wondering why you cant stop smiling. =)

Now If only I had time, I would stop by here every week to stock up on Cheese.

I was sent here on the recommendation of fellow yelpers and I am really glad I went. Yes, it was crowded in Leavenworth on a Saturday and we had to wait to get in, but the lady manning the door was really nice... and once we got in, we were given a sample of cheese and sent on our way down to my idea of heaven.
The ladies behind the counter were sooooo friendly and one of my friends wanted to try some goat cheese, and I said, this cheese is super good with fig spread, and wal la... she brings out fig spread to taste with it! So friendly. The selection of food, wine, etc is amazing and the extra helpful staff made it highly enjoyable. YEAH CHEESE! :)

Feels like Christmas when I'm in this cute little store!  well...probably because I'm always here during christmas after riding the snow train for the lighting ceremony.   But they definitly have a great variety of cheeses to try and purchase as well as some yummy meats and a few choice wines!

I think my favorite cheese here is the Black Mountain Cheddar!!!  Mmmm!!!!  of course if you don't like garlic you may have a different opinion about this cheese!  it's actually a very difficult cheese to find anywhere else!  the only other location that I have found this cheese is at Pike Place and I don't make it out there very often either!

Can't wait to go back and pick me up more cheese!!  =)  and the rest of the town is adorable so it's worth the trip out there!

OMGOMGOMG This is heaven. Oh how I love cheese! Cheese everywhere! Every kind of cheese you could imagine! And you can sample just about all of it! They also have specialty meats such as liverwurst which is my fave. (oh hush!) They also have wine and sauces there as well. The staff is really cool- young yet knowledgable. I got 1/4 lb. of Salmon Smoked Cheddar and I ate it all by dinner time. James got some Jalepeno Cheddar- still working on that, but even though it has a rela kick, it's addicting.

The best thing about this shop is the samples.  You are welcome to try any cheese they sell--and they aren't stingy with the size of the samples.  The prices can be a bit steep, but after sampling a few flavors you will leave knowing that you are going home with cheeses you will love.  I'll take that any day over the crap shoot that your local market can be.

They have an amazing array of cheese and beer. Lots of options and they will let you try almost everything. Last time I was there they had a Irish cheese made with whiskey which was amazing. It can be a little pricey so don't expect your going to buy a pound of cheese with the same cost as your local grocery store.

I don't know a lot about cheese, but we sampled some gooood cheese here.  The ladies were really nice, handing out samples of anything people asked for. It's a tiny place though, and was super-crowded the Saturday we stopped by.  It might have been hard to actually buy cheese if we had wanted to!

Every time you walk down into this little shop you are instantly handed a yummy little sample of something tasty, like english cotswold, aged irish white cheddar or garlic and basil gouda (yummm!!!). The pickier you are, the more samples you get. Sometimes I just do lunch down there. They also have a pretty good selection of mustards and odd beers.

Went to the Cheesemonger's shop after reading some of the recommendations. Fell in love with the Vlaskaas cheese and bought a couple other cheeses as well. Christy, from behind the counter, helped us understand the subtleties of various cheeses and was very enthusiastic in showing us different varieties. It has been a while since I have seen such enthusiasm from anyone selling anything these days. Was very happy with the experience as a whole. They have a good collection of beers as well (yes they sell Maredsous).  The only drawback is that you have to go a flight of stairs down to reach the shop. But hey... for some good cheese and awesome customer service we were happy to take our baby stroller down as well !!
