I came here to meet a friend for drinks one weekend night. The bar was tinier than I expected and full of a collection of random people.
As I waited, it was obvious that some skeevy guys were checking me out (poor girl, by herself - she must need saving). Finally, my friend came and she knew the bartender lady so we got some drinks and scored two seats at the bar. Where we were immediately hit on by two older, married men who tried to impress us with their knowledge of champagne but obviously knew nothing. However, we were also bought two shots by several guys closer to our age but when we showed we weren't interested in anything further, moved on to some other girls who were definitely looking for some attention. The whole feel was strange and my friend even commented on how it normally is not like that.
However, the drinks were good if a bit pricey and the bar itself looked pretty cool. I'd like to go back and see how it can be minus all those crazy people.
During my college years I would search books, magazines, and even websites for "mood" images for my school projects. When I found Charlesmark's wide angle photos online I was amazed.
During my Boston trip, we parked along Boylston street and walked up and down the street where locals played. I read each sign of every restaurant, bar, and shop. When my eyes read Charlesmark hotel, I screamed!! I couldn't believe I was standing in front of one of my "mood" inspirations!!! I had forgotten to look up the address before my trip. It was meant to happen =)
Charlesmark is a small boutique hotel. Once inside you can see all of the restaurant, bar, and lounge area from the entry. I looked around and saw a desk with Internet access for guests. I peeked inside the lobby restroom. A design isn't complete if the restrooms do not match the decor! Sure enough, shiny red tiles, metal finishes, and bright lights. My favorite elements of the hotel were the leather zig zag wall pattern above the lounge area. Ekk still can't believe it!!
Okay so I have never shagged at this hotel, have never taken a date to their restaurant, never cruised their bathrooms, never recieved a facial in their spa (if they even have one), and have never flirted with a room service server. I did, however, have cocktails in their bar, which was pretty good but nothing really over the top.
I am a rum lover and they have one cocktail on the menu called "Sailor Jerry's Last Kiss'. Rum, amazing. Spiced Rum, incredible. Spiced rum in a martini glass shaken with Amaretto and Pineapple Juice, remarkable to down-right orgasmic. I ended up having three of them and loved each one more than the last....oh gee...
I went on a Sunday night (industry night at many other places) and so this place was pretty dead. The bartender was as dry as the nuts we never got (in all fairness I don't even know if they serve nuts but the bottom line is that the bartender sort of had no personality). Am I being to harsh? C'mon, I loved the cocktails! And if they don't serve nuts in their bar, they should, at least something.
Decor and music was very swanky. This was a lounge that was crying for attention, and a break, from the couple smacking face in the back corner. I know, it's none of my business, but damn folks, their are rooms upstairs. Get one. And take a "Last Kiss" with you.
I like this place but don't love it
3 stars = A-ok with is fine with me
Nice layout, looks cool from the street. Nothing that stands out inside. Drinks are standard fare. Upwards lounge is comfortable kind of cool with flat screen tvs but not inviting and feels like a diva LA seatspace
Close to a 4 star bar
Just missing something
A comfortable hotel, in what seems to be a trendy area of Boston (Back Bay), just steps from transportation and Copley Square. Also very close to lots of shops, restaurants and bars. The room was clean, cozy and simple, with modern decor - great for one or two people. There was one double bed, a very nice bathroom (shower only, no tub, which was fine for me), and plenty of drawers/spaces to hold a long weekend's worth of clothes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that in addition to cable tv, there was satellite radio in the room. Oh, and free wireless internet - a big plus! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also provided continental breakfast in the downstairs lounge. In the evening, this same bar/lounge turned into a pretty happenin' hotspot for the locals, and a nice place to have a drink and relax after a long day of walking around Boston. All in all, a great hotel for folks that like to keep it simple, because how much time are you going to really spend in the hotel anyway?
a solid 4.5 stars. I've been back numerous times now, and I can't stop coming here! The bartenders are friendly, and the space is amazing. I know I can come here to unwind with my girlfriends and have a quiet corner to talk without having to shout.
and I LOVE the dancing bear martini. YUM

We're staying here for a convention and wow. Very modern room. I walk in to some classical piano playing which just set me into a fit of glee.
The room is spaced well, chic furniture and VERY comfy pillows/bed. Modern look and paintings about it. I haven't stayed anywhere else so I don't know how it compares but for the price in a city, I'm lovin' it!
This really is a darling hotel. Its very tiny though and we really understood the meaning of tiny when we walked into the room...
For what we needed at the time it was cool, cute and tiny. But in all honestly once we got bridesmaids dresses and make up and hair shit, oh and 10 girls inthere... not so cool any more. We also didn't like getting fussed at by the fucking house keeper. Saying that there was too much stuff in the room and that it was dangerous.... my girl went off on her. But the skank put our dresses in the cramped closet after they were obviously hung so that they wouldn't get wrinkled....seriously that bitch should be cut.
Thanks hotel peeps for letting us use ur lobby area as a make-up station and for holding my bags well past happy hour!
Great place to drop in for a drink after work. A few of us grabbed a table at the end of the lower level, near the end of the bar, and had fantastic drink service the entire time we were there. By 7:30, the place began to fill in with an eclectic, mostly middle-aged mix of tourists and suits.
Highly recommend coming with a group. If you can't get a table near the bar, there is quite a bit more modern lounge seating in the elevated space to the back. Nice area, except when I was there on an icy February evening, they were actually pumping A/C into the lounge. Needless to say, we retreated back down to the bar area.
Overall, great service, tastefully modern decor, and an intriguing mix of patrons warrants high marks for the Charlesmark.
LOVE this place. the drinks here are amazing. the bartenders are cute and can make a solid drink - what more can a girl ask for? The place draws a good crowd too - no guidos, no frat boys, no trashy drunk girls..wait? am i in boston still??
I went here for the first time a few weeks back for pre-game of my 21st birthday. 20 of your finest, bubbliest, freshest and most attractive, all clad in their evening's best attire, ready for a night on the town. Since then I think I've been back every weekend and have thoroughly enjoyed it everytime.
Charlesmark is a wonderful place to go and enjoy an evening without any hustle and bustle, big crowds, or any of the crap that goes along with an evening on a weekend. Excellent, friendly bartenders, and the lounge in the back looks decieving in size, but it's really frickin big. Dimly lit, walls decked out in a dark, sharp ambience. Drinks, for the most part have always been pretty consistent. I'm a cocktail man, always on the prowl for something new and different, and they deliver.
I've gone with a huge party, and I've gone with just one other and have enjoyed it just as much. So, get your ass up in there already!
Love the bar area. Very intimate and modern. It's very red and white and black colored here.
But the rooms, the rooms unfortunately are way to small and uncomfortable for my taste.
Expect a full sized bed, about 1 and a half feet on each side for walking and a huge mirror about 2 feet from the bed that basically serves the purpose of making the room feel bigger than what it actually is.
The pros:
Nice tv, you can rent VHS tapes from the hotel for free, there is a great radio that plays music in the room as well as the bathroom.
I think it's a fine place if you are just coming by yourself, but with 2 people, the bedrooms are a bit too small for comfort.
Free continental breakfast and a nice lounge area with free wi-fi which is what I'm using right now to write this review.
Good location. Within walking distance to Prudential, Copley Square, Boston Commons, Beacon Hill, etc..
Also, keep in mind this a boutique hotel, so I really shouldn't be comparing it to a Westin.
So for a hotel I give it a 3, but for a boutique hotel I give it a 4. It's very convenient and cute, just way too small for my taste.
If a zero existed, that's what I would give for the Charlesmark.
Stopped by here with a friend on our walk around Copley thinking we could get a nice drink in what looked to be a trendy bar. Sat AT the bar in front of TWO bartenders with a waitress on the side chitchatting with another patron. We sat for a good 10 minutes, none of them acknowledging our presence or looking in our direction. (Usually, bartenders will say, "i'll be right with you", "how's it going, be right back", that type of thing. Didn't happen here. The bar is NOT very big, so there's no reason for them not to notice us.
We thought, maybe it's our appearance? This was around 6pm and there were other people there. We weren't scantily clad nor dressed in business attire. Just regular summer clothes, so no reason for them to ignore us.
We felt extremely neglected and unjustified for the wait since it wasn't as hectic as a hot night at what used to be Avalon.
We decided none of their $10 drinks was worth the hassle and the wait, so got off our asses to leave. As we were doing so, we noticed a couple at the other end of the bar do the same. Apparently we weren't the only ones neglected.
NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN.
I will give most of the credit to the margerita, from there, I was lost.
The outdoor patio is great, but you've got to order food to sit there.
So a few apps later, a very awkward (and frequently absent) waitress places a plate of spring rolls and tempura on our table.
I almost hesitate to say this but it was the WORST plating that I think I've seen at a seemingly "upscale" place. How they made 4 spring rolls and one cup of sauce look so terrible, I will never know.
The food is from Bangkok Blue next door and is pretty standard asian/american fare.
I didn't hate it, all I can really say is, eh...
Everyone seems to like the bar, but the rooms are a rip off. Not suitable for two people staying 4 nights (@ $200 a night). Basically no closet, no place to unpack, and not even room to put 2 suitcases on the floor. Plastic glasses. They could save a ton of money by turning down the water temperature and putting a flow regulator on the shower
Will not return.
Pleasantly surprised! I stayed here on Memorial Day weekend. It was all about location location location for me, and being a stone's throw from the Copley T-station, it was convenient for to make quick stops during my stay. For Memorial Day weekend, it was also the most affordable hotel in the area, so I didn't expect that much of the room. When I arrived, I was disappointed that my room was on the same floor as the bar separated only by a door, so I thought I wouldn't get much sleep. Boy, was I shocked to find that it was fairly soundproof. Plus the room is at the back of the hotel so it didn't get any street noise. This place is a boutique hotel and i loved how it felt like one. The decor was modern and fun. I liked the classical music playing in the room when I entered and having speakers in the bathroom too. They also gave us free spring water on the first day and lollipops in the bathroom. I thought they were nice touches. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The bar at the front was trendy, and drinks were expensive. But the place had nice atmosphere and the big cushiony couches were comfortable. Great place all around.
Typical hotel bar... better than it's neighbors. Swanky, pricey, dimly lit... but not too crowded, fast service, friendly door staff. I'd recommend it to start your evening off, or end it. Part of the reason I liked it is it's convenient, right on Boylston St.
They're gummy bear martini is good too.
I joined Daniel S. here for cocktails & cocktales one lovely evening after work.
The bar itself has a modern style with a clean and simple appearance. The drink menu is original without being overwhelming. There's nothing I hate more than menus that are novels with complex descriptions that require 2 historians, an engineer, and a Catholic Priest to decipher.
I don't remember the names of the drinks I ordered but I know that I had two different ones which were both delicious. The second one was a copycat order inspired by Daniel--his drink came with gummy bears! The bears were actually a delicious compliment to the drink as well as my waistline! They were also an idea I happily used at a recent Christmas party I co-hosted--gummy bears in all the champagne glasses!
There isn't much else to say about this bar other than the fact it DID have good drinks, it DID have good service, and I WILL return for alcoholic beverages whether for business or pleasure.
One noteworthy item would be that it was as if Daniel and I stopped in on a 'gay' night--we were sitting amongst all gay men...well I mean I didn't ASK if they were gay...but c'mon...COME. ON.
Me: Daniel, is this a gay bar?
Daniel: No...why?
Me: Look around, it's all gay men.
Daniel: That's weird.
Me: We're the hottest.
Daniel: I know.
If you're looking for a spacious and luxurious hotel room, the Charlesmark is definitely not for you. If you're like me and my hon of hons husband, and you are just in town for a couple of nights, the Charlesmark will do you up just fine. The location simply cannot be beat - it's across from the Public Library and steps from Copley Plaza and Newbury Street.
Dig it:
The Charlesmark is a narrow, 7-story building with the tiniest of lobbies. There's a bar and lounge on the other side of the lobby that were really hopping, all the way to closing time. Our room was on the 5th floor, right across from the elevator, so of course I figured it would be noisy and asked to be switched. No dice, as the place was sold out and we were the last guests to arrive that evening. As it turned out, it really didn't matter since the place was quiet as a tomb.
Our room was really, really small, but managed to accommodate a queen bed, nightstands, shelving unit and desk that appeared to be custom-built for the room. We even had a flat-screen TV mounted on the wall, and a radio/CD player that had speakers in the sleeping room and bathroom.
The bathroom was spectacular, and almost as large as the sleeping room - marble everywhere, slate walls - very chic. Unfortunately, the towels were nothing great, but the moment was saved by the heavenly toiletries.
The hotel also has a continental breakfast that was pretty lame, but all we wanted was coffee anyway. And they give you little Hershey bars when you check out - yay!
This review is about the lounge/bar, rather than the hotel itself as I've never stayed there.
I love the decor - it's dark, sleek, modern, and full of chic ambiance. They play a really good mix of music, and they have yummy drinks. Service is okay, but it depends on which staff member you get - as with many places, some are better than others. The food is okay - I love Thai food so I do like that they have a pretty decent menu, but there is much better Thai around than the food they have (which is catered from Bangkok Blue next door to them). Still, while there is better, their food is definitely not bad, and it wouldn't stop me from going back to have a drink and a few bites at the Charlesmark Hotel's lounge. They have an excellent patio too!
I've seen a lot of private events/parties happening in here, so if you have your heart set on going, call in advance just to make sure they're not closed for a private function. I once went when the indoor section was closed for a private party, but the patio was still open to the public anyway and it was lovely!
Bonus: Last time I was on their patio, they had little citronella-esque candles on the tables - fantastic for people like me, who's blood is wonderfully appealing for mosquitos to suck on. I believe they also have those nifty little warming lamps on the outdoor tables during colder weather also, which is always welcome.
Never stayed here but I'm a regular at the bar. It's one of my favorites - the drinks are great (the gummy bear martini rocks my world), bartenders know their regulars and are great, sitting on the patio on a nice day with a cocktail and an appetizer - doesn't get better than that. They accomodate requests - my friends and I booked a little private area for a birthday and they had signs up for her and had set set off a lounge spot for us. Just a great bar, great drinks, great location!
This review is for the Charlesmark Hotel bar/lounge. Decor is minimalist/modern. One thing that is quirky about this place is a lot of the furniture is square. Square benches by the bar, square couches. Really not much to report other than that. The lighting is dim wiht little colored spotlights. The main bar area is downstairs. Stairs lead to a second level with a much bigger lounge area. There is an outdoors area that is good for the summertime and smokers. The problem I see here is Boylston is just perpetually busy so sit outside at your own accord.
I was here for an engagement party. We had the place all to ourselves and it was intimate and nice. The size of this place is really deceiving because the upper area is quite roomy. I recommend this place for small parties and get togethers.
The Charlesmark Louge is very euro without the trash. The red tall bar stools are the focal point of the ambiance. Drinks are on the pricey side, but are delicious. The food menu is from the Thai restaurant next door, Bangkok Blue, so you won't be disappointed.
The music is a wacky hodgepodge of non-descript jazz and religious Indian music. I'd try them out before it becomes another crowded Boston bar where it takes you a while to make a drink order and the music is so loud you can barely have a conversation.
Oh, and they have a great chocolate dessert.
Dropped in on a weekend evening to grab an appetizer and drink. They place all their food orders through the neighboring thai restaurant, and I think they should stop doing that. really. soon. My tofu triangles came with the wrong sauce, and my girlfriend's little bags came out as little bags of oil dipped in oil with an oil dressing.
But my beer was good. It came in a frozen frosty glass, which is a bit strange when you have little specs of ice in your glass. But it was a beer. That's hard to screw up.
Oh, the service here on this night was horrendous. Like, exceptionally bad. We waited outside for about 5 minutes before we were able to be seated (there were about 10 open tables on the patio, but no host in sight to let us sit down). The service thereafter was equally as sporadic. He forgot our water, then disappears for ages so we couldn't ask him to get it for us. The previous time we were there though, the service was awesome and we got about 5 helpings of bar nuts to tide us over before we went elsewhere for dinner. So I guess the experience really depends on who your server is, because we had a lot of fun (and more than one drink) when we had a better server.
I'd maybe go here on a weekend evening before dinner and have a drink, but I'd never seek this place out.
I stopped in here tonight waiting for Jesse to get off work and it was just okay. I really wanted to see what they had on the drink menu, and I left feeling a little underwhelmed. I ordered the Ruby Slipper, which I chose purely by cute name, and it really had the flavor of sweet tarts, which came from a float of sugar free red bull. Can't win them all. The service wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. I waited a while for her to close out my bill, even though I handed her my card right away.
The food menu seems to be from Bankok Blue, which is right next door. While tasty, it'd be nice to see something more exciting and different than Thai.....there's so much of it on Boylston!
Initial reaction to the room was overwhelmingly good. The rooms, while certainly not large, are not too small so long as it's a short stay; two or three days max in all likelihood. More than two people would also seem claustrophobic and overwhelm the space. It was, however, very well appointed and tasteful, and quite cozy. First complaint is that the bed was a bit too hard, and I like a firm mattress. My girlfriend, however, was less than pleased; and fellas, as we too well know, if she's not happy, you're not happy. Second complaint goes to the television positioning; it was on the top of a very high shelf, which made viewing a movie from their rather huge (if unorganized) free dvd and vhs collection difficult. In-wall and in-shower speakers were a great touch; but they stopped working not long after we checked in.
Bathrooms were charming in an attractive dark green tile. The sink, it must be noted, has a joystick-style faucet; I felt like I was playing Super Mario Shaving in the morning. Shower was huge for one...not quite big enough for two, sadly. Our particular shower had some holes in the wall, and the nozzle was cracked, though I am more than certain this is the exception rather than the rule; possibly some rowdier renters had caused some damage and it had not yet been repaired.
Service hit both ends of the spectrum. Our night clerk was curt and seemingly self-righteous, thought not outright rude. He was the kind of fellow who would go the extra mile and make sure you knew he was doing so. Other attendants were much friendlier; the woman who answered the phone knew just about everything when trying to get there and was gracious in giving out her advice.
And now, the bar. Tasteful, thematic, very clean, although easily crowded: it's a good thing it doesn't get too busy. Bartenders were friendly, but seemed to lack knowledge of their stock and of cocktails. Then again, I suppose my personal standards are far too high, being a very good barman myself; to most others with no such strange requests as mine, I'm sure they're more than satisfactory. The bar also makes it feel somewhat strange checking in; the bottom floor is almost completely given over to the dining and drinking area, with nothing more than a tiny desk for the clerk to sit behind.
It's a moderate-sized, very well priced hotel for the area which does a lot of things right. I think most of the issues I had were due to that it is a much smaller, less corporate hotel; fine for character, but many of the little things can go unnoticed in such a business. However, very recommended for any group of two or less staying in Boston.
I would avoid the hotel. It's sketchier than hell. There's barely a front desk. It's more like a front booth with some dude who looks like a bouncer. There are stains all over the common hallway carpets. There's nothing quaint, nice, or hip about the hotel itself, though the lounge looked like a great place to overpay for questionable cocktails (their definition of a Manhattan does not include bitters) and the opportunity to meet eurohipsters.
If you are older than 25 and you have not seen this hotel, I would seriously think twice before reserving it. However, the rooms themselves, though small, are decent.
I went to the Charlesmark recently on warm Friday evening with my fiance and another couple. The patio was what drew us in. Although it was full, it was not crowded. A woman greeted us at the front desk, which also seemed to serve as a hostess stand, and directed us to simply take any open table. One thing to note is that you have to order some type of food if you are having drinks on the patio, and the kitchen closes at 10 pm. Despite the fact that we arrived at 9:55, our server graciously placed an order for us so that we could sit and enjoy our drinks outside.
We eventually moved inside to the comfortable lounge seating in the back. The drinks were well made and the service was attentive. We recommend this location as a good spot to meet up before going out, or for an after dinner drink.
Averages out to 3.5 stars
The last time I was at Charlesmark (either on Friday or Saturday), the place was pretty dead despite it being only 12:30ish or so. The service and the drinks were decent enough, but it was kind of unsettling that it was so dead at such a peak time so I hadn't thought about going back for a long while.... but I found myself in the area recently and decided to give it another shot.
This time, the place seemed a lot livelier (not to the point where it gets obnoxiously loud and I can't hear the person a foot away from me despite their yelling). We didn't really intend to stay, but we ended up lounging there for a while and it was relaxing. Also, the blueberry lemonade = deliciousness. I can't believe I didn't notice that on the menu before. I don't frequent the place so can't say what the usual crowd is like... but averaging out my experiences... Charlesmark was ok
Review is for the hotel bar only: This bar has a modern yet cozy flair - square bar stools with dark lighting. An excellent after work spot to grab a few drinks, the best part about the bar is Vanessa. She is very friendly and well-traveled, with an exceptional taste in lounge music that keeps the ambience relaxed and cool.
A somewhat sleek and small bar with a good amount of lounging space is offered. This is a great alternative to sports and Irish bars to watch a game. They have a huge screen in the back. I was there for the JAC @ NE game and they had free pizza from Upper Crust!! The bar service and the drinks are OK. I guess I was expecting more professional service and better tasting drinks. I had a margarita but the sour mix was of poor quality; I then just stuck to beer.
FYI: they offer food from the Bangkok Blue next door.
I actually love the bar/lounge area here. The bartenders are super friendly. The food comes from the place next door I think (asian food) but I like it a lot. I went to a private party here once as well which was very well staffed and well-run. It's a nicely done place and it seems to be overlooked so you can always get a small group of people in with no trouble -- even on a Friday/Saturday.
The Charlesmark is a nice alternative to the outdoor drink spots on Newbury St. The people-watching here is excellent, except that sadly there are a lot of homeless people camped out at the Boston Public Library 24-7.
The server here was confused but generally nice. I like Bangkok Blue's food, so I was happy to munch on that with my cocktail.
I may come back, but there is a lot of competition in the area...Bar 10 makes a mean martini, City Bar is half a block away, Top of the Hub is close by and of course Newbury St. has lots to offer.
My roommate and I rolled into the Lenox to grab some Sunday Funday drinks, but City Bar did not open until 4, so we ended up at The Charlesmark, right across the street. Walking through the front doors, the bar is located to the left of the lobby, and it includes a big ass window façade overlooking Boylston St., which affords excellent people watching. The bar was 99% empty on this particular Sunday afternoon, and the sox game was on the TV behind the bar, so that was just fine. The bar is totally going for that urban boutique feel, but a few notes were missing. Music, for example, was not playing. Being in a quiet empty bar is always odd, even if we are talking about a Sunday afternoon. The cocktail list consisted of about 12 different martinis, and a decent wine selection. My roommate and I both tried ordering a Dark and Stormy, but the bartender informed us there was no Ginger Beer. Now, I've been noticing this tasty concoction on lots of drink menus lately, so I asked the bartender to suggest to the manager that it be added to the list. She then informed me that the manager has not/does not change the cocktail list, which is completely strange and backwards. Anyhow, the bartender was friendly, and she shook up some quality drinks. Oh, except for the first martini, that included two floating hairs. NASTY. She ended up not charging us for one drink, but still, c'mon, it's one thing finding a hair in food, but floating in a drink like it's some kind of new age garnish? BOGUS.
All hairs aside, I'll probably be back on a busier night, as they have a decent size sidewalk patio that's worth a check when waitresses are working. Holler.
I went to the Charlesmark with a friend for some cocktails as a precursor to an evening of clubbing. I found the interior design to be pretend chic and largely disappointing. The seating is awkward and the wait staff lack any sort of character or depth. The glass windows were dirty and my pear martini was mediocre at best. The demo was mostly thirty-somethings whose choice to drink there was probably a reflection of their lack of taste. I never want to go back here. Sorry for the pretense.
i love a good hotel bar, and this review is for the bar only. let's face it, the drinks are a little pricey and the bartenders know this. they also know you're most likely in from out of town and are looking to have one or two drinks to get stiff then you're either going back to your room or out to a nudie bar. either way. this knowledge causes them to make real drinks. get a scotch, and the glass is full; get a rum and coke and the coke is for color only.
the charlesmark is no different. trendy decor with good service. there is a lounge area upstairs, but i usually sit by the bar. i've always had good service, even when the bar was somewhat crowded.
can't tell you anything about the hotel itself. i live in boston, so i tend not to stay at hotels. i can, however, assure you the bar serves alcohol (not sure about the no alcohol votes).
Besides the great price and excellent location, the #1 reason to stay at the Charlesmark? Surround sound in the room and speakers in the bathroom!! Listening to "classic alternative" satellite radio in the shower? Awesome! Nothing like a little Joy Division to start the day off right!
After passing by this funky little hotel patio many times, i finally decided to go in and was even more pleased to see that the lounge in the back and bar was decorated with such modern class. The drinks are fun and the bartenders and owner is even more fun! I recently held a 90 person event at the hotel lounge/bar/patio and it turned out AMAZING! Everyone was so helpful and accommodating, the food was great and most of all the guests had the best night ever! The rooms are cute and modern just how they should be- i would totally recommend this place!
Spent 3 nights there in December. Our flight arrived at 7am, so we got to the hotel before 8 and of course our room wasn't ready...check-in was at 3!! We left our bags at the hotel (which I was a little worried to learn that because the place is so small, the bags were kept chained under the counter inside the bar!). Having just left 70 degree weather in LA and getting smacked in the face with 17 degree weather, and nothing being open yet, we tried to stay warm as we walked the streets of Boston, waiting for stores to open so we could buy gloves and ear muffs!
Anyway, yes, this place is small, but it is also very affordable and centrally located to so many great things, including a T station, Newbury street, and a Dunkin Donuts. The shower is nice, and the bathroom has speakers from the TV! Speaking of, since the room was so small, the TV was placed in a very akward location, making TV-watching rather hard on the neck. It's probably ideal for someone traveling alone, as it was challenging staying there as 2 grown men with luggage.
I wish the front desk staff were a little nicer and friendlier, but they did take care of all our needs, so I guess I am being a little nit-picky.
Having said all that, I'd probably stay there again.
My wife and I just went to the bar/lounge part of the hotel since we live in Boston. The bartender was very friendly and happy to serve us. The drink menu is creative and extensive, but they only have four beers on tap.
You can order food, but it comes from (3-star) Bangkok Blue Thai Restaurant right next door. The prices are slightly inflated, but the bartender literally walks next door to get your food.
The bar has modern lines and because it's in a hotel, there's free internet access in the back (if you're desperate).
