8 reviews for The Cellar Door
The Cellar Door is excellent for Visalia. It occupies what once was a god for saken Chinese restaurant. Thankfully, it has been turned into something more useful. An alcohol establishment.
There is usually a cover after 9pm, i believe. It's around $5, though, that changes if there is a band playing. The space is excellent, with modern dim, yet warm lighting with beautifully exposed brick walls. It's wide and open with couches and chairs along the walls near their new large windows and their new selection of gorgeous paintings. The center of the space has an elevated stage where at the end of it, is set up for live music. The front end of the stage has stool seating available.
The bar itself is excellent as well with a wide variety of wines and beers. It is not a full bar so don't expect to order a cocktail. But that's ok. I like beer and wine just fine. Speaking of, their beer selection, on top of being wide, is excellent as far as choices. From domestic, to imported, to premium, they got all the good basics and beyond covered. However, i do have to say that i was very dissapointed with my experience with Boddington's here. Not the beer itself, but the travesty that they did not have it on tap. After i ordered from the bartender, i heard the sacreligious snap of a aluminum can and i knew i had been tricked. Blasphoemy!
I reccommend Cellar Door to anyone living or visiting Visalia. It is quite good. Why wasnt Downtown Visalia cute and yupi when i was growing up there.

Very classy bar, amazing selection. Unfortunately I might be biased because the five stars is mostly a result of the PHENOMENAL consistent line up of outstanding live performances that take place here. Great staff and ambiance.
Very cool place to chill and have nice conversation with those you love...until the band comes in and blows you across the street to the VBC!
No, but really though, good selection of wines and beers from around the world and the place is big enough to house many people at once.
If you get here early enough, you might be able to bag a comfortable couch or table near the windows were you can totally slip into relaxation while looking chic with a nice glass of merlot

Great place for wine. Bountiful variety of tasty wines to try, with friendly wine servers, and good glasses! With nice opaque glass refrigerator doors to chill and display the wine.
Great place for music. A nice stage area, so that nobody in the place has a bad seat. There was also a awesome band playing that had a Bob Dylan, Meg White feel to it, (just so HAPPENS to be my sister playing that night! :)
Great place to see people. Coming from Visalia, it's always nice to see cousins and friends from high school.
My hubby also liked the art...nice boobies and butt painting!

The Cellar Door seems to be central to anything and everything going on in Visalia. We drove out here from Oakland to see one of my favorite bands, British Sea Power, and were very curious as to how a rock band from the UK would play in a wine bar.
The place is bigger than I'd thought it would be. After the entrance there is an extra room on the right that sold straight up crappy beer for concertgoers, but the real wine bar is past that on the right. The bar is a nice big L shape and the wines are displayed in temperature control cabinets at the rear. The menu is well thought out and the descriptions fit the wines. They have something for everybody, from expensive bottles of bubbly to a nice Australian Shiraz I'd been meaning to try.
In the middle of the room during the show was the stage. Actually, that's a lie since there really isn't a stage, just a separate floor for band and audience to stand on at the same level. The PA wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and the band were awesome (but this isn't a British Sea Power review, is it?)
On the left side of the room was a nice lounge area with large windows so you can check out the surprisingly hopping weekend Downtown Visalia action outside.
Visalia is lucky to have a place like the Cellar Door. It's not the perfect music venue, but the fact that they served wine in nice, big glasses in the middle a spastic rock show showed they are a brave lot.

This is one of the fanciest/better looking bars I have been to, though I wouldn't really stop much by as it wasn't my kind of crowd. I went to see Pinback at this bar and since it was a bigger show, the "stage" area was really crowded, and since the band is at the same level as the audience, I couldn't see anything. I ended up standing at the bottom level and listened to the music from there. It wasn't such a great experience for me, but the bar was really nice looking. The owners walk around throughout the night picking up bottles and checking to see what's going on. I can imagine myself going if another band I enjoy happens to be playing here, but I can't see myself just stopping by for a drink.

Great place to go and have a drink with friends. They have good live shows from time to time. Good sized wine list and strong selection of bottled beers. Tops for Visalia.
I love this place! it's got a swanky feel and hosts some quality shows thanks to N Vision Mag! The lineups are stellar and it's just an amazing venue! The stage setup can be a bit cumbersome when it's crowded, but it's quite cozy and the locals are super friendly!
