Review from Al C.
This place is great. My wife and I first stayed here in 2006 as our wedding hotel...we got married in Truckee. This has become our regular place when we come visit fam especially during Christmas. The place is nice, the rooms are very comfortable and modern. The restaurant has good food for breakfast. The staff has always been super friendly in all my interactions with them. Maybe it's the small town hospitality compared to the traditionally rude people that make-up the Silicon Valley I encounter daily. The price is up there, especially for being in a town like Truckee...but, the accommodations and staff make it a good place to stay.

I rest my case- the Hotel owners want to tell Clients they're wrong, question their motives and do anything but make the experience comfortable and inviting for guests.
They have lost a guest for life, and are guaranteed to get much bad press until they get a handle on the "guest is always right" concept ;/1 Previous Review: Show all »

No Place Like It!
We love this place. The architecture is absolutely amazing. Typically the pictures on the website are deceiving when you check out a hotel online, but the Cedar House is just the opposite. The pictures don't do it justice. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Patty, the owner, is almost always available for anything you need, and is very knowledgeable about the area and local services.
The restaurant, Stella, is about as good as it gets. The menu is a little pricey, but entirely worth every penny. Chef Jacob Burton certainly delivers the goods, and has a menu item for every palate. Menu items ranged from Butterleaf Lettuce Salad and Pan Roasted Halibut to Frog Soup and Sweet Breads. I had the Sous Vide Ribeye, and it was far and away the best steak I've ever had. And I would never say such a thing in a public forum if it weren't true. The complimentary breakfast will be so far above your expectations, it alone is worth staying here.
The Good: Hotel is gorgeous, staff is friendly and helpful, Stella is open for breakfast (for guests only) and dinner (guests and public), and the food is incredible. Wine list had an unfamiliar line-up, but the suggested pairings were delicious and spot-on.
The Bad: Showers have a half door which can be chilly in the winter, alarm clocks are not ipod/mp3 compatible, flat-panel tvs are not HDMI compatible (Composite & S-Vid only) and there is no DVD player in room. Not all rooms have balconies so check before you book. Spa hours are like 4:30pm - 9:30pm?
Overall: If you want to stay in a beautiful hotel with great service, amazing food, and don't mind a minimalist style in your room, this is the one. -

My wife, 13 year old, and I stayed there for a weekend in July. Super nice and friendly staff.
Fantastic cookies and coffee in the lobby during the afternoon.
Nice rooms with comfy beds and an easy location a few minutes car ride from Historic Truckee. -

The hotel restaurant Stella is an incredible restaurant. The service is always first rate, the wait staff will tell you that they are so pleased to work there. I would come to this restaurant just for the bread. They make and bake this crusty heavenly bread in their brick oven.
Tonight I had an Ahi tuna sashimi on a bed of thinly sliced cucumber with rice wine vinegar, seaweed salad and topped with a faux caviar made from watermelon juice with ponzu and dehydrated sesame. The dish was absolutely fabulous!
Everyone had a different entrée - Chilean sea bass, Muscovy duck, stuffed pork chop, and beef filet. All were very good, fairly priced and very tasty. They also have a great wine list.
This has become my favorite Tahoe/Truckee restaurant. Try it and I am confident you will be favorably impressed. -

Okay, this is a very nice hotel managed and staffed by great people. I only stayed one night and that was also my first night in Truckee, so here's the quick and dirty:
-very new, clean, and modern, but no wireless internet!
-great bar, free hot tub, and a nice continental breakfast
-$250 bucks in Truckee? Yikes, maybe over-priced
-German style bedding... i.e., a king bed with nothing on it but 2 single size duvees and 6 pillows so large they might be recycled couch cushions. I have slept many nights on German bedding, and despise it- really, there's no excuse for those effing pillow. None. -

Hands down, they best place to stay in Truckee. I have stayed in many places in the area due to the fact that my sister lives here and we visit often. When we checked in, he informed me that they upgraded our room and he dropped our rates when I asked if they offer AAA discount. This place is really dog friendly, even though we don't have one, was cool to see them walking around.
The room was fantastic, Scandinavian design, with awesome bed with separate feather down comforter, and really fluffy pillows. I wanted to take them home :-) The bathroom was on the small side, but was perfect. Shower was great once you got the controls figured out.
The restaurant on site, Stella, offers a complimentary breakfast, which I would not call continental. They had oatmeal, cereal, bacon, potatoes, 2 types of scrambled eggs, toast, fruit, and my favorite, huge slices of heirloom tomatoes with a lite vinegrette. They also offer, coffee, tea, juices and milk. We raved about the food that we partook every morning. The staff was so friendly, came by the table to make sure everything was alright. Unfortunately, we missed the opportunity to have the dinners at Stella.
We got a chance to hang out in the bar one night and had a great time with Kyle and owner, Jeff and of course Leslie!! Wonderful people.
As far as rates, I was astonished to find that the price of this place is the same as the Best Western down the street, which is awful.
I cannot wait to come back and stay here again. This will be the only place that we stay at in Truckee. -

If you want to stay in Truckee -- this is your place. Incredibly hospitable staff, cool spa-like rooms and a sweet property -- all within a stones throw of Fifty Fifty Brewing!! The breakfast was far better than most 'included' breakfasts and we were given a complimentary room upgrade (despite booking at the very last minute). This eco-hotel offers a bit of affordable luxury for everyone who loves to truly 'experience' their travel.
Stella is a good option for dinner if you don't want to leave the property... but could use a bit more character. The bread really is that good. -

My guy surprised me with a getaway for my birthday, and our first stop was checking in at this amazing hotel!
Cedar House Sport Hotel (CHSH) has total curb appeal. It's very colorado-sportsy-woodsy-modernesqe. Everything is wooded and there are trees everywhere. gorgeous! The front desk staff was super polite, and didn't mind at all that we checked in an hour early (In fact, they didn't even say anything) They gave us a complimentary upgrade (score!) They showed us the features of the room (helpful!) and let us get settled in. The other reviews covered the rooms pretty well - and let me confirm, LOVED the bedding - feather down comforters are heaven!
Okay, now that I've gushed over them here are my reasonings for taking off a star, and mind me I'm picky when we shell out a chunk of change to stay somewhere:
--lack of finishing touches. the water gets all over the bathroom floor when you take a shower. the electrical outlet had clearly had a hole cut out too large for it making it tricky to plug anything in. there were stains that you saw when the light came in on the bottom of the wall in the bathroom. other minor stuff of that nature, but that wasn't a deal breaker, but again, the little things were sort of added up.
--in their "welcome binder" they boasted how they had plenty of items you could call and have them bring to you if you needed a snack (room service of sorts) i was starving and it was past meal time, so i hand the love walk down to the front desk, and the guy seemed really weirded out and insisted they didn't do any sort of room service or have food to offer.
--their website said they offered pay-per-view. i could find nothing in the room/on the tv to do it. the tv was fuzzy and had lines through it. sort of killed the whole flat screen on the wall thing. their channel guide that they had so handily printed up for you had errors on it. annoying.
--there's a mobile home park next store. it kinda kills the view if you turn to the left.
--SHUT THE BLINDS and pull them up a little if you are staying on the side of the hotel that the sun rises. We shut them the first night and were blinded when the sun rose. Apparently, the trick is to pull them up a little.
Overall, amazing place. I realize I am picky and have high standards. I posted this review mostly so those who were picky would get a full picture. For the price, I would consider seeing the competition the next time I was in the area, but would not rule this place out. -
Review from Rachel S.
This is probably the most amazing place I have ever stayed. It is gorgeous, modern, and eco-friendly, too!
First steps...:
Their lobby is stunning, and they have a really nice snack platter that they put out every evening. I usually come here to get away from the city and relax, but I don't have to stay locked away in my room to get work done. I've spent hours in the lobby, and they never mind.
Rooms:
Despite looking very streamlined and modern, everything is soooooo comfortable! I got the best sleep of my life in those beds, and the floors are HEATED! I'm from Southern California (where winter doesn't exist), and I was warm and toasty my entire stay. Also, they have a storage shed for your sports gear, so you don't have to keep it in your room.
Staff:
Jeff and Patty, the owners, give the hotel a very personal touch. They are welcoming, they remember your name if you're a repeat visitor, and they're always around. The front desk staff are friendly and really knowledgeable about the area. They are totally prepared, and have an entire binder full of menus from the restaurants around town (and not just the super pricey places, either!). Also, Kyle made the best damn Midori Sour I've ever had in my life.
Food:
The breakfast was incredible. I have never felt so satisfied by a "continental" breakfast. Delicious! Dinner at Stella is also a must. A bit expensive, but well worth it. Share dishes if you have to, but go!
Location:
The location is fantastic. Downtown Truckee is a minute drive away, and there's a nice park across the street that has a local ice rink in the winter (and let me tell you, the Northstar one sucks, don't even bother!). It's only about 20ish minutes from King's Beach on Lake Tahoe, and very close to the ski resorts for winter sport folks (it IS a sport hotel).
The hotel is also pet-friendly! I am a dog person so I love all the four-legged friends running around.
It's their goal to make the Cedar House feel like a home away from home, and they succeed!Listed in: Swirly Green Sugarbombs

We brought our dog - Yea!! The room was fine. Modern, beds comfortable. Sliding door to bathroom was broken, but they fixed that. So, having not stayed in any other pet-friendly hotel in truckee (if there are any), this was really good.
Morning breakfast, however, was terrible, IMHO. I had a breakfast fritatta, which I couldn't even eat. It tasted like a rubber band!! And I noticed at the other tables, that no on else had eaten theirs - just picked at it. The coffee, however, was great. So maybe it was just a bad choice or something. Can't give it glowing reviews for such a highly-touted restaurant. -
Review from Gina M.
The Cedar House is a very nice modern hotel and the service is phenomenal. You can tell that the staff would do anything to make guests happy and they are always smiling. I really liked the overall architecture and the decor. The afternoon snacks, heated tiles in the bathrooms, and hot tub were added bonuses.
Contrary to other reviewers, we actually didn't think the bed was comfortable at all. The bed has a pillowtop but the actual mattress was rock hard. I didn't find the couch to be comfortable either - the coach is very modern and doesn't have backrests. We were disappointed that the room didn't have a DVD player or the option to rent movies on the TV. It was also odd that the room didn't have an iron and ironing board, although the staff did bring quickly bring both when we asked.
I probably won't visit the hotel again because there are so many other options in Tahoe. It was nice to stay in an environmentally friendly hotel for a change. -

OooooOooooOOOOoooo!!! That is my ridiculous moaning sound!
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!
I'm getting excited even as I type about it!
The customer service was awesome! They're even patient with certain last second individuals who don't plan ahead *cough*. Ready for it? It's story time...
My man and I rushed out the door one sunny weekend in July and decided to take a SPUR of the moment trip to Tahoe. WELLLLLLLLLL.. Spur of the moment, took on a whole new meaning! We drove around for HOURS looking for a place to stay. And when I say hours, I mean HOURS! We actually got to Tahoe in the daylight hours, yet didn't manage to find anything even into the late hours of the night. Luckily, I had resources. I called the most trust worthy source I knew, which was... my mom. She called around and BAM found a location in Truckee.
Great, how great. My mom found us a place, but it's probably some dump in the boondocks. It'll probably be one of those serial killer dives that are waiting to be discovered by Steven King. Not to mention, we were in South Lake Tahoe, that meant we had an hour trek ahead of us. Lovely, but we were desperate! We felt like Mary and Joseph trying to find a place to stay in 110 degree heat and no food. So, our drive began. Of course we got lost for a while and we took a few wrong turns and needed to get gas.. in the dark.. in the mountains.. but we made it!
When we finally did, it was a gasp of "Awwwwwh, this is nice!"
It was one "Awwww" after the other.
The lobby = gorgeous
The service = perfect
The bed = perfect, comfy, cushy!
The bathroom = outstanding!
The shower = so cool & functional!
The TV = flat panel!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though, who puts a flat panel in a hotel room.. THEY DO!!! And it has major cable!
The cost = very worth it!
The comfort level = 100%
The gadgets = seriously, just go for the gadgets. They rock!
Overall = Do I even need to say it?? 10 STARS!!! Yea, I said it. 10!!! I want to go back. Right now!
I even took a picture of the "restroom" in our room. It was that good! -

The Cedar House is a fantastic place. Why? The staff here is wonderful! Dillon (working the front desk) was fantastic. He called and made a reservation for us at Pianeta. He called a cab company to schedule our ride to the restaurant. When he noticed that I had hurt my wrist out snowboarding - he immediately found a cold wrap for me. Later when we were waiting for a cab in the lobby - he offered to get us coffee from next door. Hell, all I expect from hotel staff is that they are polite - Dillon really far exceeded that expectation.
The rooms are stylish, cute and comfortable. The breakfast, although the options are somewhat limited, is quite tasty. You have a menu with 4-5 options: Egg and Mushroom Frittata, Oatmeal with fresh fruit, Bagel with Lox, etc.
A wonderful place. -
Review from Cath M.
We were here for 5 nights and it was really nice. The boy and I had a "king suite" and it was really nice...good large king bed and the bathroom was spacious. Unfortunately, we had no idea that there wasn't an AC in any of the rooms! We, of course, thought that every hotel now had AC in their rooms but not this one.
Other than the AC factor, everything else was good. They serve good continental breakfast and the boy and I loved their chocolate croissants. Definitely saved us some dinero to enjoy other activities and explore the area and allowed us to splurge on food!
Although, the boy and I are still trying to grasp the idea of them being a "sport" hotel, without having their own gym and perhaps swimming pool. They did have a jacuzzi...other than that, there was no point in having "SPORT" in their name.
Will try to go here again, perhaps, in the winter time, when we could use the "HEATER" only in the room. -

I just came back after staying at The Cedar House. We brought our dog, Nigel, and he was very grateful to them for allowing him. Being 7 months pregnant, I couldn't accompany my husband on the slopes, so I was at the hotel all day with no car. At first, I was disappointed to see that they didn't really serve lunch from their restaurant BUT, they were so awesome, they brought over a beautiful plate of food over to my room. Whatever your needs, just ask and they will help because the staff is uber friendly and helpful!
Oh, and the style of the hotel and rooms: Modern, hip, European, and not annoying at all. As I relaxed on our comfy king bed, I looked around and pleasantly found NO artwork on the walls. I looooove this. I hate going to hotel rooms and looking at cheesy-ass artwork. You will find none of this here. Also, Nigel kept finding spots around the floor in the room and in the tiled bathroom to sleep on because the floors are heated. How freakin' cool is that? Being 7 months preg-o, I have to use the bathroom 15 times a day, and walking into one without having to put on my socks from the cold tiles was niiiiiiiice. -

I will definitely be back!
Yes, a bit pricey ... but they cover it all!! They love dogs!! They even provided a lil doggy bed, complimentary doggy treats in a lil doggy bag and low beds for our short companions!! Its a $50 extra charge for pets but so worth it with such great customer service!! Even the continental breakfast was wonderful!! We both had omelettes and danishes with fresh squeezed orange juice!! Oh and yummmmmy cookies for happy hour! The rooms are so modern and comfortable with state of the art tvs and a bathroom that could be featured in a magazine!! I was very happy with my stay as was my pooch! -

AWESOME. Everyone here makes you feel welcome and the accomodations are wonderful. European sytling and Trukee hospitality make this hotel a great choice for your stay. Evening appetizers and cookies, morning breakfast spreads, and lattes were all delciosu and served with a nice gourmet touch. They don't skimp on the options! Smoked salmon, oatmeal, pastries, sliced fruit, yogurt, and my favorite...heirloom tomatoes for their superb breakfast is a really good reason to get up and wander to the lobby.
The rooms are comfy and extremly clean, so all in all a winner! It doesn't hurt that they are green too! Recycle bins are in every room, they use corn based cups, and the whole hotel is built to maximize the runoff from rainwater to water the plants! Loves it! -

The Cedar House Sport Hotel is hands down the best place to stay in Truckee. Some of the negative reviews posted are "understandable" if you aren't used to staying at boutique hotels, but overall, I'm certain most guests would be pleased with the experience. If you have high expectations of service and friendliness, this is most definitely the place for you.
First of all, it's a green hotel. How much better can it get? Tahoe is full of run down crummy hotels, and motels. Having one that is environmentally conscious is a huge benefit for the area, and I can only hope this trend will continue. Nothing is "over-done" in this hotel. It's simple, and rustic feeling, but incredibly comfortable. You certainly don't feel like you are living a minimalist life when you stay at Cedar House. The construction of the hotel is beautiful, and the landscape is immaculate.
There is a complimentary breakfast, and yes if you happen to be the unlucky person who doesn't get the fresh egg scramble, then it isn't that great. My word of advice?? If it doesn't look good, just tell the chef. Both days we were there this weekend, a very nice young lady was the chef, and she kindly greeted us, asked us how the food was, and was happy to make something special for kids... (not ours, someone else's). In the afternoon, there is also a complimentary cheese and meat plate in the lobby. Grab a glass of wine, and some snacks, and hang out in front of the fireplace for an hour before dinner. We didn't eat at Stella for dinner, but a really nice waiter made us some after dinner coffee drinks upon our return to the hotel. AND there are cookies in the evening!! For those with a sweet tooth, you'll absolutely love getting an night cap, and a cookie to take back to your room!!
The hotel is dog friendly ($50 p/stay? Or night?). This might seem a little steep, but when you consider the mess a dog can make in a hotel room, it's understandable.
Lastly there is SECURE bike and ski/broad storage. The gal I talked to on the phone said we could also keep our bikes in our room if we didn't feel comfortable. Anyone who's been to Whistler for a riding vacation knows, MOST hotels won't let you do this.
We stayed in a Premier King room, which is a little smaller than a King Suite, but still plenty of room for a couple. The room was clean, and yes the bedding is Euro style (no top sheet, and two twin comforters), but we brought our own king down comforter just in case. I can't say I agree with one of the reviews regarding the furniture. It is reminiscent of IKEA furniture, but only because of the style. It's not a style I'd put in my own home, but it in no way felt cheap. It was comfortable, and consistent with any boutique hotel. The bathroom has a walk in shower, and I know one reviewer had a hard time with water "getting all over the place", but I just pointed the shower head all the way down, not out, and there were no issues. I did feel like the sink was a little low, but maybe I'm just really tall??
My two complaints about the room; the TV was right in front of the bed, and we had to unplug it at night, since the blue power light lit up the room like a Christmas tree. There are only 7 channels, so good thing we went to Northstar for dinner to watch the Giants/Phillies game
You should be enjoying the outdoors when you come to Tahoe, but we were forced to watch Antique Roadshow while we enjoyed our nightcaps, and that was a little disappointing. Secondly, the safe was far from safe. Sure it worked, but it wasn't secured to the cabinet it was placed in. If someone wanted to, they could just take the safe and figure out how to open it later. A lot of work I know, but leaving your laptop in the safe feels less than... well safe.
When you book, call to make sure you are on the second floor, facing the courtyard. I can't imagine what the folks who aren't facing the courtyard are looking at. One side of the hotel has a trailer park, the other faces someone's property, and the other, I'm not sure.... Just buildings. At least the courtyard rooms give you something nice to look at. But be wary, the first floor is close to the seating for the courtyard, and at happy hour, there were some rather loud women "enjoying" their wine.
Everyone who works at Cedar House is incredibly service focused. From check-in, to breakfast, to our nightcaps; we have never felt so welcome, or enjoyed our stay as much as we did at Cedar House. We have stayed at plenty of five star resorts, and none have compared to this. Even the nice places we stay at in Whistler aren't this accommodating.
We will definitely return in the spring with our dogs for a long weekend of downhill park action, eating, and drinking to our hearts delight. I'm so thrilled to have found such a gem in the Tahoe area!!! -

Loved this comfy, boutique, and modern place for a weekend getaway - we went for the New Years weekend. Absolutely loved the complimentary breakfast, afternoon appetizers (cured meats, cheeses, veggies, and cookies perfect for post-skiing), and the hot tub. The bed was very comfortable and I actually just loved the separate comforters! I highly recommend this place over any in Truckee - it's close to all the restaurants and so many ski resorts.

Very pleasantly surprised with this Hotel. Cool modern rooms with thoughtful ammenities and beautiful views.
We came to celebrate my birthday and the hosts put a note in the room for when we arrived with two free drink coupons. Also, they coordinated the flowers my wife purchased ahead of time!
Excellent dinner at a reasonable price. The breakfast was included and despite comments on Yelp to the contrary, it was amazing and filling. -

I spent two amazing nights at this hotel. Beautiful modern design timber/concrete, spacious and comfortable rooms.
From the time we arrived, we were made to feel extremely comfortable and welcomed, the lobby is awesome, a nice little bar out the back and a great outdoor dining area.
If you want a totally unpretentious getaway/hideout, this is the place for you! -

San Jose, CA
Just stayed here this past weekend. Good price for such a stylish and cozy place. Priced better than many other places and it was a lot nicer than some that were only a little cheaper. Plus, it includes a nice continental breakfast with lots of protein options and not just sugary carbs--lox, cheese, hardboiled eggs, pastries, cereal, etc. Also included are espresso drinks!
Room was cozy with fluffy pillows and blankets. They use a "German" bedding style so there is no top sheet and the queen bed had a separate twin-sized blanket for each person which took a little getting used to. They do say you can request a top sheet and I might do that the next time so my feet don't keep sticking out. One odd thing is that there is no mirror in the actual room, only in the bathroom and that one is not that big. Makes it tricky to get ready when you're sharing with another couple.
The lobby here is super cozy too with a gas fireplace that gives off lots of heat and a nice bar. After a trip to the hot tub, the four of us hung out in the lobby in the terry bathrobes they provide and had some drinks. Bartender was very friendly and no one minded that we were in bathrobes. It was nice to stay in a place that felt homey enough to do that.
I will definitely be staying here again! -

Charming, Euro inspired, attentive, lovely breakfast thats included, accepted our dog family member. Seems to attract guests who don't mind being around each other. Both times we have been there, we meet nice people in the lobby fireplace area. A teeny bit spartan, but hey, its a sport hotel and the price reflects this.

first off, this is my choice hotel in Truckee. not over the top luxe (it's NOT a large luxury resort, but it IS a nice eco-friendly boutique hotel), and our recent stay was very enjoyable.
saturday night stay in a "luxury suite":
- mid June appears pretty quiet all around - 70's and warm in the day, 40's and cold when the sun drops. definitely not peak busy season. i like it quite, so this was perfect.
- stayed in an upstairs end unit (worth the extra $ for a lot more room). noise level was perfectly fine. [last time we stayed in March in one of the smaller rooms on the bottom floor and it was quite busy & noisy.] noticed if the sliding door was open, we could hear the cars driving by (views of the main road from our balcony) - fairly quiet with the windows closed.
- furniture in the room was nice to look at, but not so comfy to lounge around on, but comfy enough.
- shower is roomy (no tub), and double sinks are outside the area (appreciated plenty of counter space - easier for 2 people to get ready at the same time in the AM.)
- galley kitchen was perfect for our needs. little coffee maker doubled as a tea maker. small fridge was good to keep beverages chilled.
- free WIFI available, although sometimes spotty in the room.
- bedding - super comfy & cozy. king bed with 2 separate comforters, encased in duvets, no top sheet. (what's the big deal here?? duvets are cleaned liked sheets, so why do you need a top sheet?!) i actually like the idea of 2 comforters w duvets - no fighting for covers or tangled in the top sheet...
grounds:
- lobby entrance - friendly staff. friendly dog hanging out with staff.
- full bar next to lobby entrance. they also serve complimentary snacks in the late afternoon (cheese/meat/crackers/fruit/cookies). also, extra tea packets for the room if you want (i wanted!).
Stella (restaurant onsite):
- dinner on the property (no driving necessary!) - Stella (this wasn't even built last time we were here). food was fantastic and prices were extremely reasonable. they don't have a lot of tables so reservations would be good. people that don't stay at the hotel seem to come to eat -- it's clearly a real restaurant (not just hotel dining), and a good restaurant at that. we had an outdoor table and weather was perfect (with a heat lamp) and we watched the sun set while we ate.
breakfast is also included with your room (at Stella) -- a few hot items (scrambled eggs & bacon was great), as well as yogurt, breads, jams (loved the bread & jam too). plus coffee was good (much needed). i suppose you can say it's a limited selection, but i don't care for the continental type breakfasts at big hotels, where you have lots of choices, but everything is mediocre -- i'd much rather have a smaller selection, and everything is great. well done!
overall, really enjoyed our stay and would stay again, but probably not when it's busy season (i can see how it can get noisy when all the rooms are filled). -

I booked a room here, was meeting my parents there for my Moms bday. I called and switched nights with a short notice, there was nooo problem, very nice about it. Then got there, checked it, and was AMAZED that it was VERY upscale (uh, come on..its TRUCKEE, I lived there before!) 5 star everything - linens, ammenties in the room, just beautiful.
I ended up not only leaving my room after I had been in it for an hour, at no charge (was going to give it to my Dad, he had snored all night before and kept MA UP), but then they offered a room to them next to each other. And didnt blink an eye. We were honestly the customers from HELL, and they were beyond nice about it. I will go back, and tell everyone I know about this place. Oh, and killer location too. VERY IMPRESSED!! -

This place is great. The home-made oatmeal in the complimentary breakfast was top-notch, and that was just a minor perk. If you don't enjoy the awesome architecture of the buildings and the sustainable, green design, there's always the hot tub that's open late, shuttles to the ski resorts, free wi-fi, and a great staff. One also can't forget the evening snack buffet in the lobby, complete with a full bar, chess and checkers, and comfortable, modern seating. The design of the rooms is a bit different, but it's more than functional, and definitely added to the appeal of the hotel. I wandered around for over an hour both at night and then again the next day taking photos of the architecture and lighting, and the dog-friendly policy made me smile that much more.

This is an awesome place! I am proud to say that I took my boyfriend here on his birthday solely based on reading the reviews I found here on Yelp! We were both very impressed. This place has the rustic sierra feel but with modern ambiance. The room decor is very modern european, I felt like we were staying in IKEA. The owners live on site, the staff is very accomodating and welcoming.
We attended the Truckee Wine Walk fest (awesome!) when we stayed at the Cedar House and it was the perfect location. -

We popped into this BEAUTIFUL hotel to see if the price was low enough to warrant not driving back down the hill...it was!! They offered a very resonable price and the included breakfast the next day made the price more wonderful! Slept great, hot tub was nice and hot (not always a given!), had nice showers and a great breakfast.....YAY!!! I will stay here first when in the Truckee area! The staff was friendly and professional.

I recently went on a snowboarding trip with a big group of my family and we stayed at the Cedar House Sport Hotel. The hotel is a little outside of old town Truckee on the road to Tahoe. As its Web site says, it "fuses innovative architecture with the best of contemporary design ... in a hip European style." Some of the innovations worked better for me than others, and what I liked best is that it does the old-fashioned stuff quite well. One European touch I didn't like: The bed had only a bottom sheet and duvet. In winter it was fine, but in summer you might have a hard time regulating your warmth. My room had a wall-mounted 32-inch-wide-screen LCD TV, with a ton of channels. There's free Wi-Fi and also a high-speed Internet connection. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The morning breakfast (included) was truly outstanding and not be missed. You're less than 20 minutes from Northstar, and just a little farther from Alpine Meadows. Free shuttle buses to these resorts stop at the hotel. We rode the free shuttle to Northstar one day and drove the other, and the shuttle was a couple of minutes faster. When I plan my next trip to N. Tahoe, I'm staying at the Cedar House, and I won't go anywhere else.
I recommend this hotel for young singles, a romantic getaway, families with young children and pets.
Pros: An environmentally friendly facility that's also comfortable and hip. Pet friendly too!
Cons: Some bathrooms are on the small side. -

This is one of the local great finds in my book. Of course if you live in Reno you might not be staying overnight here, but from the reviews that's a great option. This place seems to cater to the outdoor loving people with lots of money. Me...I'm working on the money part. But anyhow we came for the wine pairing and cooking demo dinner. The cost was reasonable $65 or $70...per person. I forgot exactly how much, I wasn't the one paying. But....the whole dinner demo was excellent and I highly reccomend doing it when they offer. Check the website for times. The dinner is limited to like 20 or so diners. If you do the dinner they offer discouinted room rates. Great romantic weekend get away...hint hint...

I like modern design so I loved this hotel. Puppy also got to come since this is a pet friendly hotel. There was a big dog bed, food bowls, and treats waiting for him when we got there. The room I stayed in had a big walk-in shower which was cool. The mattress was too soft for my liking. Free breakfast was just okay. We didn't want to leave the dog alone when eating breakfast at the hotel restaurant so they packed up our food on a tray and let us bring it to our room which was nice. I would totally stay here again!

Take everything cool about a W hotel, remove all the pretentiousness, then drop it in Truckee. bingo: Cedar House. Been coming here for a few years and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Tahoe.

My partner and I just spent last weekend (4/14 - 4/17...3 night Winter Weekend Special) at this hotel and had a great time. I loved this hotel because of the hotel amenities (architectural design, minimal modern furnishings, great breakfast included with room cost, afternoon nosh with the best homemade cookies, hot tub, free WiFi and great service). I especially chose this hotel because of all the above and because I was skiing at Northstar which was only 10-15 minutes away. This hotel is also very close to Truckee. I will most certainly be recommending this hotel and will stay here again.

Our new favorite place to stay for all visits to Truckee! Fabulous eco friendly hotel and restaurant. Rooms are spacious, clean and have great walk in showers. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Hot tub is a fabulous end of day at the slopes treat!!! The lovely sit down breakfast is included in the cost of the reasonably priced rooms.

A beacon of comfort and good taste in what is arguably the ugliest town in the Sierra. Cedar House is modern, clean, stylish, and not too extravagantly priced. Rooms are quite comfortable and the staff is warm and welcoming. Also included in the price is a nice breakfast buffet reminiscent of European hotels. If you absolutely have to stay in Truckee, Cedar House Sport Hotel would be a good choice.

I was recently contacted by the hotel. While they were not able to turn back the clock and make sure my situation was handled differently, they made amends in a way that made me feel like they understood that we did not have a great experience. I learned (and believe) that our experience was a one-time event related to an especially loud guest who admitted to stomping around the room above me. Unlike many businesses that claim to pride themselves on customer service, I think the owner-once made aware of the full extent of our experience- was truly sorry about how things turned out and went about to make it right.
