Great food, and friendly service, came here with a large group (about 20 people) the owner treated us all to free food / dessert great guy!

Excellent experience, have come back since and has been constantly the same high level every time.

I've been here 4 times now and not once have I had an all around great dining experience. The best thing about this place are probably the appetizers. The cold seafood tower is great; the shrimp are big and fresh, oysters are delicious, and the lobster is great. My favorite appetizer by far though is their calamari. It is pan fried and served with hot cherry peppers mixed with it which makes it spicy but also delicious. Just the right amount of heat, not too much to overwhelm the flavor of the calamari. Really excellent.

As for entrees: One time the steak I ordered au poivre was downright terrible. It was a sirloin, which I usually never order because of the low quality of the sirloin cut, but this just reinforced my hesitations. It was tough, FAR too tough for the price, and worst of all the peppercorns on top were coated on so think that every bite I took tasted overwhelmingly of pepper, so much so that I needed to take a drink after every bite. I wasn't even paying for this meal (it was a business dinner), so I was far less critical than if I had been paying for it out of my own pocket, and it was still terrible. Another time I went I had the seared filet with butter poached lobster. It was decent; that's it. Not good, not great, and certainly short of any expectations I had for it from reading the description on the menu. My dining companion's steaks, however, were served LUKEWARM. ALL of their steaks had clearly been sitting around for too long. Credit to the restaurant for trying to make this right (free desserts/after dinner drinks), but it's really just unacceptable when you're paying top dollar like this.

Service was good, but not as good as other places that charge this much for a meal. I'd consider it below average for its peer group.

All in all, I wouldn't return as long as I have better options for a steak in this city. Carnevor, Mo's, The Milwaukee Chophouse, Dream Dance Steak, Five O'Clock Club, Eddie Martini's. All far superior food and overall dining experiences.

Excellent service and although I'm not a big red meat eater I've always gotten a consistently great steak.

If you're planning a special event (birthday, anniversary, promotion celebration, etc.) be sure to tell them when you make the reservation so they can give you a little special attention.

Capital Grilles aren't cheap but they a noticeable cut above the other Darden restaurants (Longhorn, Olive Garden, Red Lobster) and I've never felt like I didn't get good value for my money.

Impeccable food, unparalleled service, ambience that oozes class and style. You will be treated like a C level executive everytime here.

The staff pays particular attention to special requests. My wife and I dined there, and as per my request for "a special evening for our night out", they seated in a side room away from the main dining room. A romantic corner table and attentive yet unobtrusive service were a perfect compliment to smoked salmon, fillet mignon, and bottle of cabernet.

The wine list is truly dizzying. Highly recommended.

Decor was beautiful, like a traditional steak house. Service was outstanding, and the food was fantastic. I agree with prior reviewers that this location is managed better than others I've been to.

Went here for a business dinner and at first was a bit apprehensive that my host suggested it as I had dined at one in Vegas and it was ok, not great. Milwaukee's location takes pride in service and while I usually order a sirloin or NY cut as it is, I took the servers suggestion on the kona crusted dry aged sirloin with the shallot butter sauce. It was off the hook.  Basic mashed potatoes: solid. Creamed spinach: old school fantastic. Great service as I mentioned earlier in that it was attentive and suggestive without being over the top. People are friendly in Milwaukee.

It's a chain people. Act and review accordingly.

Good for all the conventioners, but please, why is everyone flipping cartwheels over this place?

Good food and nice looks...but it 's out of place in Milwaukee. Visit the Cap Grill in Miami and you'll see what I mean...they only opened here to appeal to seminar participants and expo show-goers, so please, homers, go somewhere else.

When the parental units visited San Francisco last July, my dad couldn't stop raving about his new favorite restaurant, a place called the Capital Grille that he discovered in Washington D.C. The 'rents had been to the one in New York, too, and upon arriving at my apartment, started searching rumors on the Internets to see if one existed in San Francisco. We were out of luck then, but during my visit to Milwaukee over Thanksgiving, sure enough, a meal at the new Capital Grille made its way onto our agenda. With all I'd heard about this place, I prepared to see what all the fuss was over.

Well, this joint delivers on its name, and then some. A classy restaurant that you'll still feel relaxed in, The Cap presents a brief but potent menu of meats and seafood, including steaks, lamb and swordfish, plus a small variety of apps, soups, and salads. I almost forgot--and a boatload of wine! My wedge salad was a meal in itself: a crunchy cut of iceberg lettuce with tangy chunks of bleu cheese and perfectly ripened tomatoes. John, the waiter, told me they use Nueske's Hillcrest Farm bacon. "You may think bacon is just bacon," he said, "until you've had Nueske's." And I happily agreed with him later.

I ordered a sirloin steak with The Cap's special Kona rub--a blend of Hawai'ian coffee and other sweet seasonings. It sounds exotic, but is really very traditional, John informed me. It's also crazy delicious. Some sides we all shared (my parents and I, not John) included fresh asparagus and onion rings. These weren't too special, but the 12 year Glenfiddich I had sure was! And this may not seem like that much food, but I actually took half of my steak to go. Large portions is how they roll at The Cap, and for the price--a couple hundred for three people--we got a really great deal.

(Oh, and here's a special side-note: As I write this I'm looking at the business card our waiter, John P. Gresser, gave us. A graphic designer myself, I applaud The Cap for printing separate cards for each of its servers, no doubt spending some dough to add the personal touch of knowing your server's full name and contact info at the restaurant. I've never seen this done before. Pretty damn cool! Okay, back to our regular programming....)

The atmosphere is elegant, and the quality of food: simply stupendous. According to my mom, Consumer Reports rated The Cap's lunchtime hamburger offering as the very best available (in the city, state, or country, I'm not sure, however). I'll verify that at Christmas and report back about it to the Yelp Nation. Until then, check out one of the twenty-some Caps around the country and treat yourself to some great food on your next vacation!

This place is fantastic. The food was amazing and the service was truly impressive.
I booked a reservation over the phone, the woman on the other end asked me if I was celebrating anything... I thought it was strange, because  I Actually  Was celebrating something (my 2 year anniversary, with my girlfriend). This question got me thinking about all of the times I have taken either my girlfriend, friends, or family out to dinner to celebrate something and yet never had a restaurant ask me about it. So, it really surprised me when I told them I was celebrating my anniversary and asked what I should expect... they said that would ruin the surprise... Awesome!
So... I put this aside and headed out. When we showed up the hostesses knew who we were immediately (I'm not quite sure how they knew who we were) but they beamed smiles at us and said "Oh, we've been waiting for you... happy anniversary Mr. Z!" When we got to our table there was a freshly cut rose, some "happy anniversary" glitter things, and a card signed by the whole wait staff congratulating us on our anniversary. The only minor gaff is that they refered to us as "Mr. and Mrs. Z," which... we aren't... but I didn't hold it against them and my girlfriend really enjoyed watching me squirm a little.

Then the waitress brought us champagne.... complimentary champagne! It was delicious and really kicked us off in a great way.

So, we decided to get some steaks and a few seafood items.
Wine: We decided to throw caution to the wind and let our waitress choose our wine based on our entrees. The waitress told us that she was still a trainee but still recommended a bottle that was really out of sight, it was airy and matched perfectly with our selections. She even went off to consult with the chefs to make sure it would highlight the meal to come... pretty impressive stuff

Apps:
The Lobster and Crab cakes were fresh and flaky... a bit heavy on the lobster side but very delicious: the tartar sacue was light and delicate and a fresh corn relish that was crisp and tasty. After we ate this the waitress suprised us by brining us something the kitchen came up with that would match our meal... a personal creation of the chef! a crispy cruton with spinach pruee, lobster meat, fresh parm. and topped with some microgreens.. amazing stuff.

Entree: My girlfriend got the special: Filet Mignon with a spinach fillo pastry. Her filet was perfectly cooked to her specifications, the only complaint was the spinach pastry was a bit heavy on basil, I liked it but she wasn't thrilled.

I got the porterhouse which was really fantastic, perfectly cooked and incredibly tender... my favorite piece of meat and this reminded me why.

We split two sides: ***GET THIS SIDE***

Lobster Macaroni & Cheese... wow, this was really amazing stuff. Huge chunks of lobster placed into a light creamy cheese sauce and topped off with panko breadcrumbs.. this side was like no macaroni I have ever had... simply amazing.

The Butternut squat puree was a little too sweet for our tastes and went pretty much uneaten, mostly due to the incredibly macaroni.

We finished up with a COMPLIMENTARY Creme Brulee.. which we were planning on ordering anyway... everything about our experience was great... I highly recommended this place to celebrate your next event... definatley a highlihght of Milwaukee

I was recently treated to a business lunch at the Capital Grille and was thoroughly impressed by the service. From the fact that you can actually make your reservation online to the serving staff carefully placing linen napkins in your lap, this place has service figured out. And for those really high rollers: You can have your own booze locker with a brass plate proclaiming your property in the entry area. I had a steak salad special for my lunch; the meat was extraordinarily tender, the veggies were perfectly crisp, and the dressing was exactly enough to add flavor without drowning the subtleties of the delicate greens. Plus, as Pat notes... There is no such thing as a wimpy portion here. Even though we were only served lunches, nobody had room enough to venture on to dessert--though that menu looked fabulous as well.

Even with $200 in gift cards from management to return from our last debacle they couldn't get it right.  I only mean to say that if you intend to be placed in the category of the best restaurants in the city, you better have your finest points covered more than basic service.  To not know the wine list or be comfortable with pairings or not change the linen with each guest, you get dropped down a couple of rungs.

My Husband took me here for my Birthday.  Service was the best, absolutely what you would expect of a 5 star resaurant. However, we went here for a five star steak and that didn't hit the mark.  My Husband had a New York Strip and I had a petite filet.  Both were ordered medium, but came to the table on the border between medium rare and rare.  Worst was that they were both only warm.  There is nothing better than a freshly grilled, still sizzling warm steak which is what I expect in first class restaurants.  These steaks had been sitting somewhere for awhile before they got to our table.
