If you need a place for a special occasion where you need to guarantee a good meal and good service this is it.
This is one of the few places where I have never had a bad meal or bad service.
For my appetizer I always get the seafood sampler (yeah it's a lot of food for one person, but we don't get the chance to dine here very often and my wife does not eat shell fish)
The steaks are always amazing, but I do wish they would add a wagyu steak to the menu. (other than the appetizer)
In addition they always seem to have a nice piece of fish and some nice salads on the menu for the non beef eaters.
They have a nice selection of sides and they are big enough for two people. The truffle fries are awsome.
The desserts are always good and you never leave hungry.
I had high expectations for the steak given the reviews, but I was sadly unimpressed with the Filet Mignon last summer during Restaurant Week. The flavor was pretty good, but the texture and juiciness were both lacking. It's worth around $18-22 tops and I'm glad I was able to steer clear of having to pay full price. Perhaps they lowered their standards for Restaurant Week, but such an action would be truly unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber. Food-wise, everything else was forgettable.
On the plus side though, Capital Grille has a lovely interior and good service. I just wish they were worth the money b/c the food clearly was not.
Came here for my fathers birthday while home for thanksgiving and I think I'm the one whose wish came true. Three words... "nom nom nom"
This is what a steak should be. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor. Not a single bad bite to be had, and the steak was cooked extremely consistently. But let's not leave out the fantastic salad, with fresh crutons that must have just come out of the oven. Or the garlic mashed potatoes. Yum.
It was a really difficult task to convince myself to stop and save the rest for another day. My stomach was saying "I know I'm full, but I don't care, the steak is just that good." I managed to resist and saved the rest for leftovers the next day for lunch. And it was almost as good the second time around.
Mix in an exquisite atmosphere, stellar wine selection, and professional and attentive staff and you've got it.
I'm drooling just writing this review thinking about it... Who wants to go this weekend?
Definitely in the top 5 steaks I've ever had.. only two of which were of the non restaurant variety.
This is simple: Great Location, average food, awesome service. Nice place to meet for drinks or have a light dinner. If you are looking for an AMAZING steak dont come here if your looking for an above avewrage choice of meat then Capital Grille is the place to be
The price of steak. Capital Grille is a wonderful place and you won't get a bad meal here. Great service and the food (steaks) are mouthwatering. I believe that the quality of this product deserves the price. I have had expensive steaks at well known steakhouses and left with a "meh?" feeling, you won't get that here. Everything is well prepared and cooked to perfection according to your desire. A medium rare is a medium rare - red warm center. This is not a place where I need to send back food.
The steaks, food, and service are all top notch. And the best drinks I've had at a steakhouse in Boston (they even infuse their own alcohols).
They also do a killer restaurant week (3 courses, including filet and another good cut, which I can only remember was even better than the filet, and attentive service).
As they say in the restaurant biz, this is one classy joint.
My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary and we loved it.
We both thought the calamari appetizer was fantastic (huge, tender pieces) but we didn't care much for the lobster mac & cheese appetizer. She loved her filet mignon and I really enjoyed my crab legs and steak.
The service was top notch as well. My girlfriend had several questions and the server clearly knew the menu inside and out and was able to describe everything.
Overall we felt that it was probably a bit overpriced for what it was compared to other top places (Ruths Chris, Abe & Louie's, Top of the Hub...) but the food and service were excellent and we will probably go back for special occasions.
Capitol Grille has by far the BEST martini in Boston! The Stoli Doli is heavenly, and their signature drink. Its simplicity is simply elegant. Pineapple-infused Stoli vodka, straight up. (This is no "Moose Juice" - the rip off served at Bugaboo Creek.)
My fiance is not a martini fan, other than an occasional dirty martini. But he LOVED this one and ordered a couple for himself. This martini is so frothy and delicious. It is the best martini outside of New York City. Truly - you will love it, especially if you are a fan of real pineapple!!
Although we haven't eaten at this Capitol Grille, we have eaten at the one in Washington, DC. I can only believe that the steaks are just as phenomenal at the Boston establishment as well. Enjoy!!
Being a foodie the number one rule is never eat out on Christmas or new years eve ...well now you can !
5 friends and myself got there at 5 p.m were seated right away and got Adam as our waiter ( there is a 10 right there ! ) we got the seafood app. each bite was just a little better then the last . But my friends then came the Koma steak ...yes there is A God ,and he was good to us all when he let Chef David Cox make this one of a kind meal for us ....in my 30 years of eatting out one of the best steaks I have had .
We also had every side dish they make ALL OF THEM were to die for ....be the capper was the dessert once more we had them all and they were all great .
Now lets talk about one of the best staffs in Boston even the busser was fun to the point we had to call a good part of the staff out to thank them for a wonderful time and maybe even some new friends we made that night . GO THERE AND ENJOY YOUR SELF ! ! !
I brought my bf here for his birthday last year and it was a great experience. If you're looking for romantic ambiance, I would definitely recommend Capital Grille.
Bf ordered a surf and turf, cooked medium-rare and I went with a medium-cooked filet mignon. The only problem was that they mixed up the doneness of our steaks. It wasn't a big deal to us; we just switched them. I wasn't going to finish my 10 oz. anyway and his was a 6 oz.? The filet was very beefy, and saucier than the meat at other steakhouses. I actually prefer Fleming's and Ruth's Chris over Capital. Yayyy for chocolate birthday cake though :)
The extra star goes to our fabulous waiter. I forgot his name but he was rather young with very short to no hair. He was informative without being rude. He came by our table at all the right times. He made sure we felt very comfortable. Simply put, he dazzled us.
When Amex mails me promotional stuff I usually just toss it out, but when I received a $50 discount to Capital Grill I decided to take them up on it. I'd been here a few times before but it'd been a while so I figured why not?
For a Tuesday night dinner out the place was packed! Over a 25 minute wait I enjoyed a dirty martini that was just ok. (If you're wondering how one can make an "ok" dirty martini don't ask me. All I'm saying is that I've had better). Once seated I split a nice 1/2 bottle of chianti and rather tasty chopped salad while snacking on an assortment of bread. The waitress recommended the lamb, a kona sirloin and the porterhouse. My dinner date ordered the porterhouse and I order the kona. I'm just going to put it out there-- the Kona Crusted Dry Aged Sirloin was amazing. It's some "secret" blend of kona coffee and spices that completely satisfies. Tip: don't share it with any else until the end. You'll just ruin their meal. I was kind enough to share a few bites with my dinner date, and it only left him jonesin for more. [Sigh] Poor little porterhouse.
I also have to add that three days later I received a note in the mail from my waitress telling me that it was a pleasure to serve us, she was glad I loved the kona and that next time I should try the lamb. What can I say? I was really impressed and I will be back for sure.
Don't over look the Capital Grille for week-day meals. If you do it right, you won't break your budget and its worth every bite.
4 1/2 Stars,
Steaks were great, sides were amazing, and service was excellent. Lots of bottles of wine to choose from around $30 which is nice option to have. My only complaint is we showed up to the bar about 30 minutes before our reservation and ordered drinks. Im not trying to be snobby or anything but when you go to a place like that and pay $30 for two drinks, I expect chips or nuts with the drinks. Really its the only reason Im not giving it 5 stars.
Amazing dining experience. Bottom line.
Most of the credit for the great experience we had there lies with our waiter, Levi. His recommendations were spot on. He helped us pick an excellent wine (which was marked down by almost $100 per bottle), and pointed out the best entrees for our tastes.
I ordered off the restaurant week, got the Kona sirloin. It was perfect. One of the best meals I've ever had.
I'd be willing to go back here and spend a whole lot of money.
This is my favorite restaurant in Boston. I cannot get enough. It's pricey, but I think absolutely worth it. I hate to say it, but I like my steak well-done. And this place knows how to do a well-done steak. The filet mignon is always moist and delicious.
That atmosphere is great and the servers are more than attentive. The most recent server we had gave us his card - I guess we can call him to satisfy all of our steak needs from now on!
First of all - Restaurant Week is definitely the best thing to happen to Boston.
Now, onto the Capital Grille...the Kona Encrusted Steak was one of the best steaks I have ever had. The filet mignon was done well (which is tough to do), and everything was cooked perfectly. So, I give them 5 for trying.
The menu is huge (which is awesome for an expensive restaurant - I feel like the higher the price the smaller the menu gets - but the prices of the regular menu are ridiculous, and that's why I had to settle for 4 stars. They had a nice restaurant, great service, and good food, but no steak alone is worth $40 at regular price. That's not even including a side!!
None the less, if you can get a reservation for Restaurant Week, or if you're dying to blow your money after this week is over, you definitely need to go!! NOW!!
Excellent! We went to the Chestnut Hill location for our anniversary which we mentioned upon reserving. we were given one of the best tables that had rose petals strewn all over it, a signed card from the house, and a coupon for a free app. On our bill we were also given a comped dessert. The food was incredible-try the truffle fries-amazing!
Truly a great night. We'll go back for sure.
This place is the best all around steakhouse I have been to in Boston. Everything they have here is delicious, including their drinks. The wedge salad has these amazingly thick, large chunks of bacon to complement the sharp bleu cheese dressing. My porterhouse has always been cooked medium-rare, just the way I like it. The creamed spinach is well balanced and smooth on the tongue. We also drank this fabulous wine that only Capital Grille has and it made our steaks taste even better.
Now, my fiance always thinks that the side dishes really make or break a dish sometimes. I have to agree with him just this once because the lobster mac and cheese was orgasmically decadent. Huge chunks of lobster were hidden underneath the crispy, crunchy baked top and gently nestled with the soft noodles and cheesy sauce. I really like that they have the fresh berries with cream because it is that perfect bit of brightness after a heavy meal.
I have been here for special occasions and on a random Tuesday night because I was having an especially rough week. It is always fantastic and my go-to place for steak.
Boy, where do I start....
It was my first trip to Capital Grille on a visit to Boston for work. I had not a clue of what this place looked like inside. When we arrived, I soon realized that I was under dressed and this placed looked very upper scale. My co-worker kept telling me this placed had great reviews on YELP. After waiting 20 minutes to be seated I got my first look at the menu and realized "The food here must be good!" I ordered the fillet Mignon and the lobster macaroni and cheese and .... WOW!
The fillet Mignon was unreal. It was as if I was slicing through a stick of butter and eating it. God must have put cows on earth for moments like this. :-) DELICIOUS!
Then came the gem of the night...the lobster macaroni and cheese....just UNBELIEVABLE! Likely to be one the best things I've eaten in my life.
If you have a few extra dollars, this place is well worth the money!
Hands down, best steak I've ever had. I ordered the gorgonzola and scallop encrusted sirloin (cooked medium rare), and was incredibly thrilled with my choice. The meat was tender and juicy, and the encrusting was a delicious addition. As far as sides go, the asparagus in hollandaise sauce was perfectly steamed, and the truffle fries with parmesan were tasty. Both very good accompaniments to the meat. The food was top notch, as was the wine.
Our server, however, always seemed preoccupied with his nearby tables, even looking to them while he was talking to us. And, I was very surprised at how noisy it was. My date and I could hardly hear each other at times. The decor was nice, as was the atmosphere. Warm and inviting, just as I like it.
If I could give 3.5 stars, I would - food was great, service was OK, atmosphere was good.
Never disappoints. Great wine, great food, great atmosphere, great service! During our recent visit we started with the spicy calamari, bread basket and lobster bisque. All fabulous per usual! I had the filet mignon which could almost be cut with a fork, phenomenal. My husband had a special--large fresh scallops over risotto. Great presentation and just delicious. Sides are awesome too. Love the lobster mac and cheese, and all forms of potatoes! And if you feel the need to have a vegetable the asparagus is good too. If you like coconut cream pie this is THE place to get it. Fantastic! Your own individual pie (actually it is more like a large tart).
You will surely roll yourself out of there after dinner and tote along your leftovers perfectly wrapped and in a shopping bag so you can enjoy it all again the next day!
I'm not a huge fan of this place. Maybe it's because I came during Restaurant Week for the first time, and maybe it's because I'm used to Ruth's Chris. But nothing about this restaurant stuck out at me as being a quality steak house (besides the prices of course).
At first look, I thought Capital Grille's ambiance was awesome. Then we got seated and I realized it looked like any other restaurant. This is fine, but after going to Ruth's Chris and experiencing it's quiet and unique seating, this was a let down.
Soon our flat out creepy server came over. He tried to push a very expensive martini on us. No thank you. He came back and immediately tried to sell us on the most expensive appetizer on the menu. It was pushy and made me very uncomfortable. Finally, we ordered our food.
I got the salad, koda crusted sirloin and the chocolate espresso cake. The salad was fine... nothing special. The desserts were really good. My boyfriend got the other option (caramel gelato with chocolate sauce) and both were awesome.
As for the steak... I was thoroughly unimpressed. Maybe I'm just not used to sirloin. I probably shouldn't have ordered it medium well. But the steak was tough and flavorless. It reminded me of why I didn't like steak for several years (until I went to Ruth's Chris). The sides were fine... again, just like anything I could get anywhere else.
The server made sure to try to sell us coffee or tea before the night was out. While cleaning up, he smeared spinach all over our table by mistake. Awesome.
So obviously, my conclusion is that if you're going to drop a shitload of money on good steak, go to Ruth's Chris. The ambiance, service and food are much better.
Capital Grille knows how to cook a steak, for sure! They also really know how to highlite their restaurant during restaurant week. I had a reservation for 7:15 and was seated within moments of arriving. The waiter was very attentive and recommended an excellent glass of wine to pair with my filet mignon. The decor is traditional and cozy.
Now to expand on the food... the clam chowder was hot and very good. Not too runny, but not super thick either. The filet... omg... amazing. I always order my steak well done, and no one ever seems to know how to cook a steak like that without it being dry. This steak was soo juicy, I am in love. The sides, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were average, but I did not want to stuff myself with potatoes when I had such a good steak in front of me. To finish, I had the chocolate espresso cake. It was really moist and topped with fresh raspberries.
I will absolutely be visiting here again... and again... and again. I don't care how much it costs.
There isn't much more to be said than what already has been said, but the Capital Grille knows what they are doing with their meat. (insert office punchline)..
The dry aged meat is..wait, wait, wait for it....super JUICY.. and cooked to perfection. They take great care in preparing their prime cuts of beef and its evident when it comes to your plate. The sweet bread appetizer is killer here. If you dont know what sweet bread is, you should look it up, or just go cry in a corner for not being food savvy. K, thanks. But yeah, the sweet bread is a perfect way to start a meal here.
I can't believe it has taken me THIS long to review this place. Jacob W. and I came here for Restaurant week over the summer and had such a great experience. The whole experience was stellar. We were seated on time for our reservation, had attentive servers, had great (and i mean GREAT) food, and were able to relax and have a nice meal together. We each got the soup as an appetizer, I got the kona-encrusted sirloin and Jacob got the filet mignon. Both very tasty, good cuts of meat, and cooked very well. the chocolate espresso cake for dessert was absolutely delicious as well. and for restaurant week prices? you really can't beat it.
And so we delve again into my previous lives (both in this life and the reincarnated ones)...
In addition to being an Ancient Egyptian and from south of the border, I also think that I was an English noblewoman. Probably one of the lesser known ones who was not only the wife of a nobleman, but probably also a mistress of another. Because that's how I roll. The reason why I know this is because although I grew up in the big brown state of Nevada, and had not really experienced an Old English club atmosphere, I feel at home when I come to these places with the dark wood and hushed tones...which whisper dirty dealings and scandalous secrets to you.
Wintertime always makes me think of Boston, not only because I miss the snow, but because it was the time of year when I really got to know Boston.
How I managed to come to Capital Grille is a little strange...not a date, not a marriage proposal (I got that after consuming 2 bottles of wine and a port flight in Reno, but that's a story for another time), but because I had an okay job but managed to schmooze pretty well. Nowadays, pharmaceutical companies have to be a lot more strict about how they woo docs to prescribe their drugs, but back then, it involved a dinner for me and 2 docs I worked with (who are now married to each other, oddly enough) on New Year's Eve at Capital Grille.
As I was a) not prescribing anything other than my wisdom at that point and, b) along for the ride, I didn't have much say in what was selected from the menu for us to share. As I'm allergic to shellfish, what I could eat from what we ordered was limited (a FANTASTIC idea on NYE), but it was delicious nonetheless. Steak tartare? Sounds weird, but was actually pretty good for a picky eater like me. The wine selection was of course extensive, and the desserts we sampled were divine. I would have liked to try one of their steaks, BECAUSE I LIKE MY MEAT, but sadly it wasn't in the cards.
Very unlikely that I will go back, unless I find a doctor who likes wine to take me there.
Which could happen, because a psychic told me so.
Capital Grill is a Boston Culinary Institution, and its reputation is well deserved. The food is top notch, and the wine list is just splendid. It's dark, masculine, conservative, and at times a bit snooty. If I need a nice steak and a perfectly paired Bordeaux and I don't want to worry about what I'm going to get, Capital Grill is a reliable option and always on my short list.
However, for the class of restaurant, I think there are other options available in Boston that are more modern, exciting and enjoyable.
My wife and I made the mistake of trying to get a reservation during BU parents' weekend. All we could get was a 9:30 reservation. We had a hard time getting parking, rushed to get there and arrived starving and flustered.
We sat down and were immediately greated by friendly Irish waiter named Stan. I said "Stan before I can even look at this menu, we need Beefeater martinis and a dozen oysters." He didn't bat and eye and quickly returned with said drinks and oysters. I had a good feeling about this night.
My wife and I proceeded to have a fantastic, lingering meal. So lingering that as we finished our espresso we looked around and realized it was after midnight and there was no one else in the restaurant. Stan offered a refill on the espresso. I jokingly asked if he'd rather us leave. To which he wittyly responded "we have a hard enough time getting customers in the door, why would we kick you out of it?"
In all honesty the food at the high end steak houses is pretty much the same. It's the service that sets them apart. The only critique I can offer to Cap Grille is that I wish they would encourage a certain level of dress. I know the neighborhood lends to it, but I didn't enjoy seeing so many guys wearing jeans with untucked button up shirts. If I'm in suit and tie entertaining clients, I'll be inclined to go elsewhere.
I haven't been to too many "true" steakhouses (Palm in Boston, Peter Luger in NYC, and Gibsons in Chicago), but CG is on the bottom of my list. This place "seasons" their (so so quality) steak and has an annoying scene. If it were less full of itself and focused more on good food and honest service, it'd be a big improvement.
Capital Grille did not disappoint!! For my boyfriend's birthday we opted for a change of pace and came here instead of Abe and Louie's. I thought the service was great and the wine selection was very impressive.
The french onion soup was DELICIOUS and our steaks were cooked to perfection. The Kona crusted steak was surprisingly good as well. I would definitely come here again.
A silly complaint but one I need to mention is that the menus are the size of a small poster board. I am not exaggerating, they are huge. If you consider your self clumsy and prone to knocking things over you should be prepared for the poster board they call a menu here.
If you've read any of my other reviews, you know I don't mess around when it comes to the subject of steak. And I'm going to put it out there that this was one of my favorite steaks I've ever had in my life.
I first heard of CG and the delmonico with porcini crust and balsamic reduction from a friend who traveled to Boston the week before I did - and came back raving. And so...I promptly challenged him to what I like to refer to as a "beef off" between CG and my very favorite beef establishment, the House of Prime Rib in San Francisco.
So in a way, I sort of went to CG on assignment. And all I will say is that I still keep the HOPR as my last meal on earth, but the CG's delmonico - out of all the steaks I've ever had - comes in at a very, very close second place. It's that good. And be sure to order a side of potatoes au gratin. And then be sure to run about 57 miles the next day to burn off the calories. But it is SO worth it.
Great wine list too. Excellent service. Good traditional steakhouse decor. Will definitely return to CG on my next trip to Boston.
If you want a mouthwatering steak with an awesome wine selection and outstanding service - go here. You will be treated like royalty, your steak will be fresh, grilled to perfection. I love this place. Be prepared to pay up, but it is worth every dime.
Not much to say, cuts of beef are awesome. Liked it more and more as I went here in both Boston and NYC.
I recommend getting the lobster bisque. It might be the best lobster bisque I've ever had, and I love that stuff.
I love Capital Grille. I just love it. I've been here countless times. I've come with local people, I've brought French people here - everyone loves it.
Oddly, the lobster bisque is never on the menu. It's always a special. If they always have it, shouldn't it be on the menu? If they ever stop serving the bisque, I might die.
I typically order the Kona steak, medium. It is always the same, and always perfect. I love the flavor of this. The only problem I have is that if I don't finish it and take it home, it never tastes the same.
The noise level is actually not too bad considering how many people are always in there. Certainly not loud like Grill 23. It's warm and masculine, dark woods, dark leathers.
Nice touch - if a guest is wearing black, they switch out the white napkin for a black one.
Did I mention the bisque?
Holy food coma! We went here recently with family to celebrate a birthday- my boyfriend really wanted to try a traditional steakhouse and after reading several reviews, my boyfriend fell in love with the Kona steak idea and the rest is history.
We were really pleased with Capital Grille. The service was impeccable. We arrived and were seated almost immediately, and there was a "Happy Birthday" card on the table signed by the entire staff...it was a really nice touch. We were also seated under a giant Moose head which pleased the family because they live in Maine...
Onto the food: We had read the Lobster Bisque was tremazing and were really wowed by it...again, Mainers can be tough on anything lobster & they were really impressed by the soup. I enjoyed it, although I wish it had more sherry in it...but such is life. Other tasty appetizers included the french onion soup (which was slurped at light speed), the calimari and the special salad that had blue cheese and candied pecans on it...all were quite delish. I have no idea why we even bothered with appetizers because we ordered an insane amount of red meat and clearly couldn't finish it all once we had our appetizers...but thats the whole fun of eating out I guess.
I decided to give the porcini encrusted delmonico with the aged balsamic reduction a try and it was scrumdiddlyumptious. Prepared perfectly- pink & warm on the inside...the balsamic reduction was incredible. 2 others at my tabled opted for the Kona (espresso) steak and were also delighted with it, while another tried the Guinness braised short ribs special...all our food was phenomenal. Our waiter, Levi, laughed at us when we asked if the side dishes were big enough to split. These side dishes could feed a small army...seriously. We got the broccoli, the asparagus, and the au gratin potatoes and brought all of them home with us because the portions were enormous.
For dessert we tried the strawberries with gran marnier (I think it was called Strawberries Cap Grille) and the flourless chocolate cake...both were fabulous & were a great way to end the meal.
The wine list is endless (although the menu itself is seriously bulky, I wasn't a fan of that...its a HUGE menu in size which is tricky at a crowded booth) and we were quite pleased with all of our meals.
We left the restaurant Fat Happy... success!
I love the Capital Grille! Granted, I don't dine here too often due to the price but it is well worth the dough. Where do I start, the spicy calamari is delicious and may require a glass of water. (Maybe I'm a wimp?) The lamb chops are probably my favorite in the Boston area. They are well seasoned and do not need mint jelly. The hubby got the manly 24oz porterhouse, which is also delicious! On this trip we split the flourless espresso chocolate cake. I was in heaven! Flourless chocolate cakes happen to be my Achilles heal. Well done Capital Grille!
On our most recent trip, I ordered the slice filet with cippolini onions and wild mushrooms. It was so flavorful, I cherished every precious bite! The hubby ordered Delmonico steak...oh so tender. We split the hazelnut chocolate cake. I wasn't a big fan of this dessert. Although, four people could easily split this one. This dessert left me longing for the flourless variety. Oh well, there's always next time...
As for the sides, we prefer the lyonnaise potatoes over the au gratin. We've never gone wrong with the seasonal veggies either! There is always a pleasant atmosphere here and I'd never had bad service.
OMGosh... STEAK!
That's all I have to say... my experience was absolutely great here! I had been walking by this place every time I hit up Newbury St. and always wanted to try it but knew it would be quite expensive and wouldn't be a place to go with friends. Then my senior ball came around... and my bf at the time came to take me to the ball and told me to pick any restaurant I wanted for dinner. We had reservations right before the ball and it worked out beautifully... I got my hair done and got myself dressed, then he showed up at my apt, we took pics, then drove to the restaurant... I felt so important!
The valet treated us very well when we pulled up. The decor is dark and typical steakhouse feel, almost rugged chic I'd call it... mahogany wood lined every, my fave! As soon as we walked in the maitre d' greeted us and asked for our reservation name, told us they had a lovely table that would be ready in a few minutes and took us over to the bar to get a drink. The drinks were suberb and when they showed us to our table they took our drinks for us, top notch! We walked thru almost hte entire restaurant and i could hear people whispering as we were walking past and I mentioned something to my guy who told me when we sat down that everyone was admiring me because he heard a table comment on how absolutely gorgeous I looked and then he complimented me by telling me they were right and he couldn't be prouder walking in with anyone else. Awwww......
We had oysters off the half shell and beef carpaccio to start. Followed by steaks with sides of mashed potatoes and roasted mushrooms and a gorgeous bottle of Brunello to pair. The food was exquisite... the steaks cooked perfectly... the portions just right... and the timing between courses spaced to perfection. The lighting was dim and set a romantic mood and we were sat in the back room in a cozy quiet corner where we could talk and flirt and sip wine while gazing. The waitress seemed to sense our mood and was extremely courteous, helpful and lovely. We didn't know whether we wanted to get dessert beause we were so stuffed but did order after dinner drinks and with them came a complimentary flourless chocolate cake, yummy and perfect for two. I think after spending $200 for a bottle of wine, it was a nice gesture on her part to do that. She also knew my guy was a restaurant owner in NY so that could have been part of the persuasion as well.
To be honest, the entire experience left me feeling like i was a princess being taken out. I could not have asked for a better date and dinner. Although some may think its a chain consider the number of them they have.... I disagree on so many levels because chains jsut do not treat people this way. The restaurant company holds itself to a high standard from what I saw and that says a lot about your dining experience! Definite try if you have one near you... I'm planning on trying the one in stamford so I'll report on that one to compare! And oh yea... we went last may 2008!
I'm not a steak person, but the steak here was AMAZING.
I went for restaurant week a few weeks ago. The bread basket is good. Clam chowder is yummy but the salad was doused in dressing so I'd skip that. The kona-crusted sirloin just melted in my mouth. I would get nothing else.
Wait staff was extremely friendly. I'm not a fan of the huge menus (literally!) and my wallet wouldn't be able to handle weekly visits. But a good place if you feel like splurging on some very good steak.
- Do you have $60 and not mind having just water for bevarage?
- Do you have blood thirst for kick ass steak?
- Are you in a mood of dining in the posh environment where wait staffs clean out the bread crumb you scattered on the table?
Then haul you ass right here. I happened to find old, old gift certificate I received from my boss 8 years ago. And I finally cashed in.
Great quality steak that comes in the size of a f--in' brick. And it tasted gorgeous.
Staffs are so polite and friendly. Usually fancy decors intimidates me(as I am kinda blue collar guy), but I felt very comfortable because of them.
I'm a huge steak lover and critic - been to many steakhouses around the U.S. and I have to say that the Boston Capital Grille is hands down my favorite. Definitely get the Delmonico and kick off dinner with a lobster bisque.
There are many things to love about this place, mainly prosciutto wrapped mozzarella with a rich balsamic glaze, an over the top french onion soup with melty cheese and a super rich beef broth, parmesan truffle fries cut super thin and tossed with salt, parm and truffle oil. Oh and if you are hankering for a hunk of beef you can't go wrong.
I've had the coffee crusted bone-in sirloin which was perfectly seared and had an amazing shallot butter sauce. Every bite was dripping juicy, beefy, slightly nutty-coffee flavored goodness. If coffee rubbed beef isn't your bag, go for the filet oscar with enormous spears of asparagus steamed and yet still crisp, lumps of jumbo crab and a bernaise just on the verge of breaking. It is amazing. Again, the steak is perfectly cooked and the sauce is just so wonderful. I can feel my arteries clogging just thinking about this dish! There are 2 other steaks that I've tried which I must mention in this review. I loved the sirloin au poivre with the cognac cream sauce. The crushed peppercorns were not overwhelming, but formed a great crust (some places heap on the peppercorns and you can barely taste the beef). The cognac cream sauce is just that...a damn good cream sauce with hints of pepper and a rich mellowed cognac flavor. My other favorite beef dish at Capital Grille is the delmonico rib-eye. It's a perfectly cooked, bone-in, juicy cut o' beef served au jus. If you are looking to maximize your beef flavor this is the way to go, plus it's a huge portion (more than my stomach could handle).
I believe they have the usual sides, but for me it's all about the beef and the truffle fries. You can't go wrong. The service is always excellent as it should be considering what you will pay to eat this fine food and the location...well it's Newbury Street, but on the corner of Mass Ave so there's always a bit of an adventure happening all around the restaurant. There is, of course, a full bar and a huge wine list so you can blow your dough, get wasted, and eat an enormous steak with kick ass fries plus have left-overs!!
