See New England butterflies and tropical species from all over the world. Walk along a winding pathway. Observe butterflies sipping from flowers, basking in the sunshine and flying freely in a natural habitat. Enjoy our koi fish and quail birds which live among the butterflies. Visit the "show and tell bench" where a staff member is always available to answer your questions and help make your visit fun. See eggs, caterpillars or other interesting creatures up close. Watch a 15 minute, continuously running video which explains the butterfly life cycle and shares fun facts. Explore exhibits where you may observe eggs, caterpillars, cocoons and chrysalides. Each display gives information about the species featured. Take home a Butterfly Hatching Kit so that you can hatch and release your own live butterfly or moth. We make it easy and fun. We also offer gift certificates and a wide range of unique butterfly-themed gifts, jewelry, books, inexpensive souvenirs, and educational materials. Many of our most popular items are also available online. Parking at The Butterfly Place is free and plentiful. All areas are handicapped accessible, and strollers are welcomed and encouraged. The butterfly flight area is kept at 80-85 degrees as butterflies need warmth to fly. Dress appropriately. There is air conditioning in all other areas. Most visitors spend about one hour to enjoy their visit. Your admission is valid for the entire day, so you may "come and go" as you please...

Like so many others, I got the GroupOn and had to check it out.
First, don't skimp on the hallway outside the actual butterflies. Awesome learning opportunities and you get to see a bunch of neat things like crystalists and different species of caterpillars up close.
When you go in, your first reaction is probably going to be, "this is it?" It's smaller than you might think and just 1 big room essentially.
But have a seat and watch and you too will discover how awesome this place can be.
Definitely not for those super short on attention span. This is a great venue to take in details, observe how the butterflies move and what they land on, and just enjoy the overall peacefulness of being immersed in the butterfly's "natural" habitat.
Wonderful for young children and photographers. A great place to go if you want to have a family adventure that doesn't take all day.
Bring a notebook and have your child record what they see, even if it's just a scribble on the page. This is a great place for deep and critical thought, even for young naturalists.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 8, 2024
Brought my nephew here on a no school day. The room is small but there are so many things to look at! We enjoyed the museum, the cute little quail that are running around the room, and trying to identify all the butterflies!

This is a neat place to check out. I suggest wearing shorts & a tank top as well as bringing a water bottle--the butterfly room is extremely warm.
Once you pay the admission fee, there are a few different things you can do. The main attraction is where the you walk with butterflies as they fly around. This is the room that's very hot. You walk along little paths, and there are some benches to sit on. They do not seem to limit the number of people in there at a time, so it felt crowded. But because it's so hot, people don't seem to stay longer than 10-15 minutes at a time.
There is also a room where you can learn about different things and watch a 15 minute video if you chose to do so. Because it's so hot in the actual butterfly room, we would step out into the video room to cool down for a minute, then venture back inside. Once you pay, you can seemingly walk in and out of the room as you please.
There is also a gift shop you can visit.
It's a fun outing but for the price I expected there to be a little more to see. There is also no food on property so we went to Kimball Farms for lunch and ice cream after. I suggest doing both in the same day as they are so close.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Carolyn D.Seekonk, MA274848Aug 16, 2023

My best friend and I had a wonderful visit with the butterflies and I even had one hang out with me for a good amount of time. Every inch was covered with beautiful butterflies and there was never a dull moment with such beautiful residents.

This is sort of a one of a kind place to visit. Maybe I don't get around enough but it's the only butterfly sanctuary that I know about in Massachusetts. It's not a huge place but it does have an awful lot of butterflies even after having a damaged roof and losing many they recovered to full capacity over time!

A simple Google search recommended this butterfly sanctuary and it didn't disappoint. The facility has ample parking and an adequate amount of outdoor seating. The actual butterfly building is quite spacious and is clearly marked and easy to walk in.
The building the butterflies are housed in is quite warm (it has to be to match the natural habitat) so I would recommend not wearing layers of clothing during your visit.
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and knowledgeable about the facility and other nearby attractions. The staff also mentioned that local restaurants can actually deliver to the facility since they don't offer food on site.
For $14 you get all day access to the butterflies. I don't know a better deal around where you are guaranteed to have a really great experience regardless of age and ability.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Alexandra B.Tyngsborough, MA709282Feb 21, 2021
We love it here! I love seeing my kids' faces light up
with joy and wonder as they watch the butterflies flutter about. The women who work here are always kind and courteous to my children as well! They limit the entry of people into the atrium, and have markers on the pathways to help ensure social distance. My family has visited here numerous times before the covid era as well; I feel like this is a wonderful place to take the kids without worrying about a lot of touching/hands on concerns. The atrium is small- however people are always very courteous of allowing others to pass to get around. I recommend visiting the Butterfly Place if you want to spend an hour or less on an outing to entertain (and educate) your kids.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
