brown jug is a sure thing...low prices, great pizza decent environment. 14'' pizzas you can build yourself or order the gourmet pizzas which already have the toppings picked out,red or white, etc,...we had one scampi pizza and one regular pie which we added sausage and onion to...both were great..and even the next day when reheated they were still delicious. i definitly would go back to the brown jug. but santarpio's is better by far and so is bianci's.

I miss the old Brown Jug, when Dante was in the kitchen making the pizza's..... Anyway, after about 100 years being away from this city, I met up with some friends for a get together.
It is now located where the Parkway Plaza movie theater use to be, the entire place has changed, and I am not going to comment on the city.
I had a Brown Jug Custom, it was fine..... My problem is that I have traveled the world several times, fly first class and the memories of me being a drunkard at the bar puking are long gone...today I am a rich successful pain in the ass with a slide show in my head of the past....
The place is up to standards for what it is...service is what it is and food is what it is...

Ok pizza, far from the best. Dining room was freezing. New England is know for free refills , but not here. I don't think $11 for a small pizza is such a great price. Service was horrible at a nonbusy time of day.

My friend and I were looking to meet up for some beers and food, and I came across The Brown Jug on Yelp while I was looking for a good pizza and beer joint in the Chelsea-Saugus-Revere area. I don't normally dine in Chelsea as I currently live in Beverly and work in Woburn. My friend works in Weston and lives in Medford. I'm not sure the Chelsea location was best, but I am thankful for the opportunity to try this place out. If you have read some of my previous postings, you would know that I am a pizza and beer fanatic, so the Jug just made sense. We weren't looking to spend a lot of money either, so that gave it additional appeal.
Getting to the Jug was an experience in itself as the address listed here, on their website, and everywhere else is correct, but both Google and MapQuest still direct you to their old location. Only their website has a map of their new location, but that isn't very helpful either. I had to call them and get specific directions from the very helpful woman who had answered the phone.
Upon entering inside, I immediately trotted over to the bar area and grabbed two seats at the bar. The area is very spacious with the lengthy bar, lots of pub tables, and a lot of new flat screen TVs everywhere. They had the usual standard beer taps and I was hoping to do their pitcher-of-beer-and-pizza special for $15, but you can only choose Bud, Bud Light, and Coors Light beers. My friend and I passed.
We first shared a basket of their seasoned fries, which were plentiful and surprisingly very tasteful for what appeared to be only salt, pepper, and garlic powder sprinkled on them. Next we shared two pizzas with plain and veggie toppings (my friend is a vegetarian). The pizzas come in one size (14" I believe), cut into 6 slices, and they were light, crispy, and had a perfect amount of cheese and fresh tomato sauce. The toppings were also extremely fresh and delicious. This was very good pizza.
I highly recommend trying the Jug if you are in the area looking for some good pub food and pizza, cheap beer, and to catch some sports. They're also close enough to the Showcase cinema in Revere if you want to catch a flick. -

I'm not sure if I've written a review already or not. I went to a place called the New Brown Jug several years ago in Chelsea and got a great deal on a pizza and a pitcher of beer. Recently I went to this place, in Revere, called the Brown Jug where I got a great deal on a pizza and pitcher of beer. So, I'm confused if this is the new, New Brown Jug or the new Brown Jug or the new, old New Brown Jug....
Regardless all the the pizza was great, the beer was reasonable, it was far more welcoming then the Chelsea version. Service was great...until it was time to pay and our server disappeared for, no lie, 25 minutes. Kind of ruined a great night of pizza and beer but the food held up well enough I still gave it 4 stars -
Review from Tracy B.
Pizza wasnt as great as I remember it, but of course the beer might have been a factor back then... It was VERY good, dont get me wrong...
The cheese was good, almost no crust cheese everywhere which was great.
The Mushroom & Onion had maybe 3 Mushrooms... Im a huge Veggie & Toppings Whore so I want them to be there... They were almost non-existent... I get that the crust is soo thin & maybe couldnt hold the excess veggies, but still loses a star for me! -

Saw this place on GrubHub so I decided to give it a try. Tonight I ordered the 2 pizza & wings special. I ordered a plain pizza and buffalo chicken pizza, with buffalo wings. I also ordered a side of sweet potato fries. Delivery was pretty quick, 30 minutes faster than they estimated.
I opened the wings and I was pretty disappointed. There were like 5.5 wings, nothing special just regular baked chicken with a side of bbq sauce. This is not what I ordered. I could have sworn I asked for buffalo sauce. Well I'm sure that I did actually. In any event, these wings weren't anything to rave about.
The sweet potato fries were amazing. Simple and tasty. The plain pizza was really good, the sauce taste so fresh and a little sweet. The buffalo chicken pizza was great too! There were generous amounts of chicken on each slice. I love the way the crust tastes, by far the best pizza I've had since living out here.
I will certainly order from here again. But I plan to stay away from the wings. -

I've never been to the old location, but I heard a few weeks ago that they moved to the old Pollo Loco location and I knew I had to try it out! So, the fiance and I stopped by here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised.
Now, he grew up going to the old location on a regular basis (before it became sketchy, apparently), and always raved to me about the pizza. We got their cheese pizza and pitcher of beer special. It was something like $14 or $15, which is a great deal! The new location is very nice, but not overly nice. Benches and tables with country-looking tablecloths line the restaurant, and on the other side, there is a bar. A few flatscreen TVs are strewn about the walls as well. Our waitress never ended up giving us any menus, which was disappointing, because I wanted to see what else they had besides pizza. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to save that for a future trip. We were here on a mission, and that mission was pizza.
The pizza was very very good -- better than the Santarpio's we had the week before. The crust was thin and crisp. The sauce was sweet but also tart, and it had the perfect amount of cheese and not too much grease. The crust was so crispy that the pizza slice couldn't even be folded in half. But, the pizza is on the smaller side (good for two people, but probably not enough for three since there are only six slices), so you don't need to fold the slice at all if you don't want to. It was piping hot and served very quickly. I honestly think it took us longer to get our drinks than it did the pizza.
Given its service, location and prices, I'm sure we'll be back here again soon to have more pizza and try out some of their other menu items. -

Cheap beer and tasty pizza. It's not fancy by any means (it is in Chelsea after all) but it serves it's purpose. Low key and casual. Not a bad hit if your in the area.

This would get 5 stars if the service wasn't so slow. It truly is a great find for food in Chelsea. My girlfriend and I have gone there twice now and the food has been great both times. The only bad thing is the service was so slow to get a pizza and sweet potato fries, that the fries were a little soggy. Great prices, and we were told there was an outside patio opening up soon, more than likely this weekend.

Having been to the old New Brown Jug on a couple of occasions, I was more than excited when they moved to the new location in the up-and-coming Home Depot shopping plaza. I could now get their fantastic thin-crust pizza and beer combo without running the risk of unwittingly getting mugged or pregnant. (I kid.)
The waitstaff has always been more than pleasant and the pizza is fantastic. The prices are unbeatable, and while not fancy, the new place is clean and comfortable. They have some flat-screensto play the game, if that's your bag, and some nights there's even live local music in the bar.
My man-friend and I like to hit this place up for a cheap pitcher and pie, which costs less than $15, unheard of in Boston. If you haven't stopped by the new-old-New Brown Jug, now just The Brown Jug (guess the new-news cancel each other out?), get on down there. You might not be transcended, but you'll be contented. -

Pizza and a pitcher for $15 I approve! The Brown Jug is a great place to come after work for a drink with friends. They do have a large dining area but I've only ever sat in the bar. Menu includes a small array of food from meatballs, pizza, and hamburgers. I've never been here late at night but I do hear they have live music on weekends in the bar.

I love this place. I have been coming here for years. The pizza is one of kind, very unique taste and size. I usually come in with about 4 of my guy friends (my girlfriends are scared of this place) and we order about 8 pizzas.
I like the danger aspect too. Don't make eye contact with anyone. Just talk with your friends, eat, drink, and mind your business. -

Chelsea, MA
The new location (the former being behind Russo's Tux Shop) still gets a 4/10 on the sketch scale in my book; the bar area was still kinda creepy on a Saturday afternoon. But still a marked improvement over the 11/10 sketch the previous place had.
Yeah, prices went up, but the pizza seems to still be the same. And the pizza boxes are actually made out of cardboard now, not that pretty-much-waxpaper containers they used to have. It's nice to be able to do carry-out without grease dripping straight through the box.
The pizza is ok, but it's the crust that sets it apart from the rest. I noticed "double-crust" on the menu for a couple dollars more -- that's probably the way to go. -

One of the best greasy spoon-dive bar combos around Boston. I end up here often in the summer because I play baseball at Chelsea High semi regularly. Maybe I'm biased because the post-industrial decay of Chelsea inspires a perverse longing for the city of my formative years; New Bedford.
They make a delicious thin crust pizza that is hella cheap. I believe its something like $8 for a pitcher of domestic and a cheese pizza. After destroying a team full of Uncle Ricos there isn't much better to wash away the taste of victory. -

Upgraded to 5 Stars because:
1. We got a cheese pizza and two pitchers of beer for $23 bucks.
2. Darts and arcade games are very enjoyable to me.
3. The people take good care of you and give it a great neighborhood feel.
4. I like fried eggplant on my veggie pizza.Listed in: Chelsea Living

Just moved here from Chicago and arrived pretty late. We decided to go out and get a quick bite. Where did we end up, The New Brown Jug. I was more than a little hesitant when I walked in at 10:00pm at night to grab a bite with my husband. It is not in the best area, dark inside, and everyone turned to look at us when we walked in. Except no one said a word. So we roamed around for a couple minutes till a waitress finally approached us.
Note: This is definately a NO Frills place. Here was my immediate facebook post:
Just walked into a somewhat shady looking pizza joint. We asked what was faster to make pizza or a calzone, our waitress answered "beer". John asked for an ice tea, our waitress smiled and said "long island ice tea right?" They don't have.... ice tea. There are no non-alcoholic drinks on the menu and only one size pizzas. A pizza and a pitcher of beer $14!
Well ... I must say after we relaxed got our alcoholic drinks and filled our hungry bellies with their pizza. I am a HUGE fan! The pizza was thin, crisp, and very delicious. We were both surprisely and happily impressed. Our waitress was actually quite nice with a bit of New England sarcasm and service was great once we sat down.
I have since just ordered delivery and skipped going in, but I am a huge fan of the pizza and the calzones are great! Definately on my go to place for great pizza! -

The pizza at this place is unbelievable. I'm talkin' - eat a large cheese (by yourself) because you can't stand to not enjoy this masterpiece while it's hot. I love pizza burn on the roof of my mouth.
That's it. Love this joint. -

This is the Oldest Pizza Place around, that I know.
They haven't changed a thing. The booth's are the old fashioned wood high backs, very rustic.
You get paper plates and forks, knives.
You can get the Special which is a Cheese Pizza and Pitcher of beer.
They also serve Calzones that are scumptious.
We get one of each but that's it for the Menu.
Pizza and Calzone. Very reasonably priced.
We Love the Jug. :-} -

If I didn't already live in Chelsea, I'd seriously have to consider moving here for this pizza. This pizza is the best pizza I've had in the Boston Area hands down. Santarpio's, Bucchieri's, I'm sorry but the Jug has beaten you. Their white pizza with ricotta and eggplant is to die for - the crust - closest I've come to Napoli style pizza and I'm talking Naples, Italy, NOT Naples, Maine. Free delivery.

Okay, so I really didn't even want to go inside when I first heard about this place. There are bars on the limited windows and it just looks really run down. However, everyone in our waterfront hood was raving about this pizza so inside I ventured.
I will not eat pizza from anywhere else ever again! They have, hands down, the best pizza. Sometimes I ask for extra sauce because it can be a little dry for me, but even dry (by my standards) it's still SO good. -

Great hidden gem in Chelsea near the Home Depot. Drove past this place many times before I deceided to come in for a pizza. The pizza here is thin crust which are very hard to find in the Greater Boston Area. I had the Hawaiian Pizza (bacon, ham, and pineapple) along with the Fried Raviolli appetizer. I would give the pizza a B+ and the raviolli's a B-, they were a little bland. I got take out so I can't comment on the service but the hostess who took our order was very helpful although withg the amount of phone calls she was getting it looked like she was running a sports book. Overall this is a great new local pizza stop next time I'm in the mood for some thin crust.

I wouldn't recommend getting delivery. I placed an order with them today and was told it would be here in 30 minutes. Almost 2 hours later, and still no pizza. Gave a call, and mr/mrs delivery person delivered my food to another person who ordered tonight who lives in my neighborhood. Sorry pals, I won't tell anyone how good your food is because.. haha... I NEVER GOT IT! Can I have my 2 hours back?

Review from Tiff D.
As other reviews stated definetly a dive bar...a place I wouldnt dare enter...but for a great slice of pizza...in I went.
I ordered the vegetarian thin crust based on the thin cruste reviews. Eggplant, Olives, Broccoli, Onions, Green Peppers was the toppings.
I love eggplant...it was the breaded kinda. Broccoli is a must on any veggie pizza...this broccoli was shredded??? kinda like the crumbs at the bottom of a bag of frozen broccoli. Not what I was looking for but ok.
So the veggies arent fresh and the toppings were not very well disbursed. It could have been a little more crispy for a thin crust. Pizzas are $12.50 but there is a $15 minimum dilivery. Nothing else on the menu but pizza and calzones.
Overall I think it was an "OK" pizza...would I go again?? I doubt it. -

BEST PIZZA IN MA!
I don't like the Bar, the clientale, the location - but if I can give this place 6 stars I would because the pizza is that GOOD. My mouth is actually watering right now thinking about the pizza there. When I go I usually buy an extra pizza so I can eat it the next day too. I can't say enough about the pizza there. -

When I go back east this is a must have. Awesome pizza!!! I wish I was in MA to enjoy it. This place has such tasty goodness and lots of memories for me. I enjoyed it as a child and an adult, now I'm living in Los Angeles envious of all you New Englanders who get to enjoy this amazing pizza. Oh you have no idea what pizza hell I've been living in over here on the West Coast. Anyway if you haven't tried it YOU MUST and please have a slice for me. I gave it 5 stars based on the pizza not the location. This place is what it is, a little hole in the wall with great pizza, you go there for that not to be wined and dined.

I've always loved the pizza and the calzones, but now that the new location doesn't have the "did I forget my bullet-proof vest?" feel too it, I'd love to give it a 6th star!

I'm not sure if the New Brown Jug received a limited edition shipment of Coors Light's, but they were simply outstanding, and cheap, $2.95 a bottle, or $2 a pint. The clientel were friendly and fans of acid washed jeans, man-pris, and flip flops. While our crew certainly didn't fit in, we were accepted nonetheless. We were given a free Guiness and a quick peep show of some man's junk. I can't explain either, but having not seen the junk, I rate the New Brown Jug a 4 out of 5. Had I not felt like I was the kid in the corner of the final seen of the Blair Witch Project when I tested out the restroom, I would have awarded it a perfect 5 out of 5.

I have been hearing about this place for years and never tried it, went there the other day and it was gone! Little did I know they moved to a new location. We got directions from the Tux place and off we went. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the pizza was I might add a star when I go back a few more times for other items but I have to say the pizza is awesome. I will be back soon and I'll bring friends!

Boston, MA
One of the most respectable Cheese pizzas in the city and beyond. An amalgamation of thin, crispy crust, marinara sauce, blended cheeses. They offer filling calzones too but, the pizza is where it's at. Last I was in there (years & years ago) the interior was really run down, and a lot of the clientele looked like they hadn't seen a good day in years. Sorta like Santarpios in East Boston, but with a darker interior. I'm a little too "refined" for re-entry. So, I get delivery. Cash only.

Hole in the wall pizza/bar - You can't beat the pizza & beer (pitcher) special! The best thin-crust pizza in greater Boston. Quick service, friendly, townie - just as you would expect in Chelsea; A must visit place (they're moving soon across on the other side of Rt. 16).

This place blows ordered a large cheese pizza from them. Took them nearly 3 hours to deliver?? Called them several times about them not having my delivery got the "were on our way"....On our way must mean 5 years later...First and last time I will purchase from them. And when I did receive the pizza it was burnt and horrible tasting. A two year old can make better pizza than what i got from them. Pass me a "brown" paper bag so i can blow chunks after eating their pizza. Too bad i cant give them a Zero they deserve it.

Review from Johnna M.
My tradition is to go get a pizza here before seeing a movie in Revere. The Jug looks unbelievably seedy from the outside-brown building with barely any windows and one large steel door. The inside though has a really nice homey feeling. Perhaps not the cleanest-but what do you expect with the price? The pizza is absolutely delicious-I am a girl who appreciates thin crust with lots of veggies! I did not like the ricotta, meat special-ricotta? on pizza? nono. They have a surprisingly large drink list but the real thing to do here is buy the beer pitcher. The waitstaff is amazing!! It is a really cheap, laid back place to grab a beer and pizza. Plus walking through the door is still an adrenalin rush. Cash only!
