A good idea that is just not executed well. I'm all for indie artist markets and when I heard folks connected to markets in Manhattan were organizing, it seemed like a great idea. But the reality is just... Sad.
The vendors are all talented but their are too few of them. And the variety of vendors never changes. Sorry folks, maybe come up with weekly or monthly rotations so folks can be inspired. As is I cannot imagine ever making a special trip to here unless you are in the neighborhood.
What can I say? I hate giving the BKLN Indie Market just two stars, but when the major stimulus to buy things here is out of feeling bad for the vendors, clearly something ain't right.
This is a great location, and some of the vendors sell great stuff (funky tee shirts, cool baby clothes, handmade soaps, etc.), but way so few of them? I dig Preethi C's idea of having food stalls too. Perhaps throwing a DJ or two in there wouldn't hurt either.
Come on, folks behind BIM! We want to see more vendors and more variety!
I really like indie markets. I savor them. I salivate over them. I fantasize about them. But as much as I like indie markets, this one does not do the trick. It is rather small, with perhaps 5-6 vendors at the max. Its a great idea, and could be so much more, but it needs a bit of work.
I would have to agree with Jack S., and yes this place is sad ;-(
I went here for the first time this weekend after seeing an ad for it on http://FreeNYC.org. This is a great idea and the folks who exhibit their wares here are obviously very talented & have some great stuff. My only complaint is that the tent is very small and kind of crowded & there are not that many vendors there.
The surrounding neighborhood is really quaint and nice - I hope they expand this and add more vendors and maybe even some food stalls! Otherwise, it's not worth driving to from other neighborhoods.
Okay. Here's what you need to know. That red and white striped tent on the corner of Union and Smith down in Carroll Gardens is filled with lots of freakin' cool handmade goodness.
Every weekend when it's open, there's a slew of really talented independent designers from around the way, selling everything from jewelry, to clothing and accessories to home decor. Why bother with generic department stores where sales clerks don't give a rat's ass about you or what you buy? Check out the Brooklyn Indie Market for some funky, hip and limited-run editions of stuff you'd be proud to give as gifts, and chat up the designers who would be glad to see you there.
Got to experience BIM the first time this past weekend and was very happy to be a part of it as a seller AND customer. :) Will definitely come back for more!
