Do yourself a favor and order the butternut squash ravioli.  It was divine.  But ask for some bread!

This place usually has a good selection of food.  Sometimes the service leaves a lot to be desired.

$14 buys you a pitcher of margaritas (we poured up four from this pitcher), cheap and strong!

This cute grill serves a variety of consistently good food. I love coming here because the vibe is always festive and the cocktails are always strong. Ask to sit in front by the windows so you can get in on the good people watching.
Favorites on the menu include the Jamaican Jerk Chicken served with mashed sweet potatoes and the Chicken and Brie sandwich.
The service is always fast and friendly and the waiters are always hip and cute. This is not a bad breakfast spot either. Great pancakes and nice breakfast menu- but avoid the breakfast buffet, its less than stellar.

Have you ever kept ordering the same dish over-and-over-and-over... well, I seem to do that here.  I really enjoy the aioli grilled chicken sandwich "hold the cheese please".  For lunch or dinner this dish is what keeps bringing me back.

BUT... the customer service does not bring me here very often... sad, but true, I don't like to have to work to place a order, 'shouldn't it be the other way around'?

My friends all give great reviews of this place, but I'm just not seeing it.  I usually judge a breakfast joint based on their Eggs Benedict, and the one at Broadway Grill just has never done it for me.  The lunch/dinner is just blah, I've had it all before somewhere...
I did just go for the weekend brunch, which was an okay deal for alright food; however it was all food anybody could have made themselves; nothing special.  Location is definitely the appeal here.  Also, the neon blue outside of the building kind of freaks me out.

Oh the Broadway Grill.

First of all, I think they have an awesome happy hour. You can get a small carafe of this great mixed drink for only $5, or jolly rancher shots for just a couple bucks. As far as happy hour food goes, the Gorgonzola cheese fires and the hummus platter are both crazy delicious. The also have some great patio seating and the back of the restaurant is gorgeous as well. Definitely pleasing aesthetically and it's also in a great location. The sweet potato fries also rock.

And the not so awesome side, the service has never been all that great. Even when I've gone and it hasn't been that busy I end up waiting for a very long time. The service staff definitely couldn't be called overly friendly.

And besides the happy hour menu I've never had anything I felt was worth coming back for. The fish and chips were sub par and made me slightly ill later, and I've had a few of their pasta dishes that I didn't even want to finish. My husband loves their crab sandwich though, and if it wasn't for that we probably wouldn't go back.

The location is what keeps Broadway Grill going.

Other than that, know that the food is warm, salty, recognizable and served with music that is supposed to make you feel the FUN.

Broadway Grill has been bad since I arrived in Seattle 15 years ago. A former work place had an employee party that many of us didn't even bother going to. These were nonprofit workers turning down free food...got it?

The best thing about this place is the location.

Nothing about the food is particularly memorable, and the service is terrible every time. I go here when I want 7 strips of bacon in one sitting at their breakfast buffet, where I can see what I am going to eat before I decide on it and don't have to deal with the awful waitstaff. Otherwise, I stay away.

Went to the Broadway Grill for happy hour on Wednesday and I couldn't believe my eyes: happy hour is all day, every day now! I seriously thought that they were joking and it was just a marketing thing, like, "oh, every hour is happy hour here because our prices are just that great" but no- it's true!
I'm going to be moving to an apartment several blocks away soon.  This is going to be bad news for my wallet and my liver, I can already tell.

Nice place to go outside and sit on the side of the restaurant during the summer. Or you can sit inside of this really cool place as well. The food is really good every time I have been there. Many drinks and good meals at this restaurant. Staff is nice and there is always someone to ask a question about the menu.

Every time I go here I feel like the food could be better. I really want it to be better.
Fish tacos that where tasteless.
The funnel of fries is a neat idea.
I really just want more for my money at this place. That said it also would make for a good spot for work meetings, things like that.
I typically have had some of the worst wait staff here also, they forget about you, even when the place isn't that busy. You stand forever waiting for a table, while they walk past you with dear in the headlight eyes.
I like it because it's a broadway classic. But can't remember a time when I really enjoyed the food. Not sure why I keep going back.

I've gone here so many times for breakfast and I'm always super happy. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews for the BG because I'm usually the one pouting about some lame breakfast most of the time but for once, I'm in the minority here. I love the veggie scramble which happens to go beautifully with beer. I bring my picky friend who loves pork, so he gets the buffet and he never turns his nose up when I mention this place so they must be doing something right. I've never been here for dinner but as I recall, the lunches were pretty good too.

I was very displeased with the way I was treated here. The waiter seemed very inattentive and careless when dealing with us. He seemed to almost, in a concealed way, belittle us after we had a question about an item on the menu. I had read before coming here that the employees weren't always the kindest. I'm sorry to say that after this experience I feel that it is true.

In addition to that misfortune, the food was terrible. The Shepard's Pie tasted like feet and was much smaller than anticipated (considering the price), the salad that accompanied was a far better meal and that was mediocre at best.

If you are considering this place, look beyond the contemporary appeal before falling for this lackluster excuse for a decent restaurant because I guarantee that is its only hook.

I went back a third time and the last. My entree was tasteless and once again took forever to arrive. Lucky the drinks came fast enough to dull the hunger pains. Starvation always makes the food taste better once it arrives too. Yeah no 4th chances here. I'm done with Broadway Grill unless I'm really hurting for late night eats... actually, nah, I'll just hike up to Meza on 14th instead.

It's 11:15pm on a Saturday night. Do you know where your Broadway coffee stop is? Starbucks? No... closed. Vivace? No... closed (both of them).

If you guessed Broadway Grill, you were probably cheating since this is a review for Broadway Grill. But you're right. This place is actually quite an awesome coffee stop, because it's good for the normal, caffeinated version, or the abnormal alcoholic version that's just coffee flavored. I got the latter. It was warm like coffee, and it tasted like coffee, but it had the opposite effect of coffee. Trippy.

[Edit - Calvin points out in a comment... the former was free during late night happy hour! Extra bonus!]

We also got the "spicy" fried pickles. I say "spicy" because I didn't really taste any spice on them. They were a bit crunchier than other fried pickles I've had, and all around solid as a munchie food. But the whole spicy thing felt like false advertising. But at HH prices, who am I to complain?

This place is good if you need a place to just unwind after an outing. The waitstaff are generally pretty chill: Attentive, but they leave you alone if you're just sipping your drinks and enjoying your company. I'll definitely come back.

I was pretty excited to go here when I walked by earlier in my getaway weekend.  And then when I came in for brunch, and I saw how the place was arranged, I got even more excited!  The inside was pretty spectacular (to me) with the sun filtering through some sort of shade structure.

I ordered some omelet (California omelet?).  It had avocado and pepper jack, and it was...delicious!  It wasn't overly seasoned, so it tasted especially fresh.  But that was about the only good thing to say...

My order took a while to get there.  My friend ordered a fruit bowl, and when it got there, it was tinier than explained, and it basically only had cantaloupe.    We also ordered mimosas, and they were the tiniest goddamn mimosas I've ever seen.  Definitely not worth the money in the least.

It was a pretty big letdown overall.  It's unfortunate because they seemed so promising, but it didn't work out for me :(

Once upon a time, I really enjoyed eating here.

On a whim, a good friend of mine recommended we reacquaint ourselves with The Broadway Grill.

I generally like the vibe of the place.  When they open the veranda, the open air dining in the front room is nice on a hot summer afternoon.

The food, unfortunately, leaves much to be desired.  It's almost as if they are trying too hard.  I had a chicken and brie sandwich with an aus jus.  The bread for the sandwich was almost overwhelmingly salty, and the chicken was so tough that I literally couldn't bite through it.  I impaled a piece of the chicken on the end of a toothpick, and found that I had created a decent mallet.

Thinking about starting a restaurant?  Word of advice - don't serve chicken mallets.  Not very tasty, and they easily lead to broken glassware.

As we all know at this point - Broadway Grill is actually Latin for FUCK YOU, SERVICE.

But, if you can get past it, Broadway Grill has a few solid entries on the menu and a few ridiculously cheap ways to get drunk. The veggie burger will be delicious by the time it gets to you. And if it doesn't get stuck in your now-grey beard, the cookie served in a cast-iron pan with ice cream on it is incredible (especially after all the drinking you've probably done).

That said, the twenty minutes that you can wait for those drinks can be incredibly annoying. Go if you're in a patient mood.

Lately the food had been mediocre and the service if you sit near the sidewalk side had been kind of slow.  This week, my fish and chips had been kind of cold and the fries soggy.

Last week, the grilled turkey sandwich was ah ok but I've had better.  The drinks here aren't that strong either.  For 2 or 3 of the cocktails, you could just have one at the Madison pub.

What happened to the food folks?

These guys are getting back into my good graces and it feels good kinda like running into a long lost friend ( see previous review)

so I was across the street at Vivace( no big surprise if you know me) but then my Lesbo's showed up and said they were gonna get a bite to eat, I told them the other half was on his way here he just got off work, and we would join them in a few

so by the time we got across the street and seated, there food was already showing up, wow that was quick, but the waiter was on it he found out what we wanted to eat and was off, was pointed out to me it was happy hour so we decided to get 2 orders of Sliders and 1 order of Gorgonzola fries, only reason you guys didn't get 5 stars was friend had  a issue with the Sweet Potato Fries not being hot, so they were not freshly made or they were made too early and sat under a heat lamp, they did taste good with the Gorgonzola cheese on them *hint Hint*

food was good, the company was even better and I got out of there for under $15 Hell Yea !!

I hate to admit it but I often go to BG for a beer and frequently order food. But honestly, I need to get out of my rut. I'm consistently disappointed with the food - as in, the food sucks. Today I spend $13.00 for a hamburger. "Do you want mushrooms with that" she asks. Umm yes, the menu says it comes with mushrooms. Anyway, the burger was SHIT and I mean a $13.00 piece of shit. Seriously, your average suburban moron grilling frozen burger patties on the backyard grill isn't as stupid as the goof-ass-hat who cooked my burger. The burger was overcooked and dried-out. To be clear, my expensive Angus Beef hamburger was burnt. It smelled burnt. Like when you over-cook a piece of toast and it's smells burnt and you toss it in the trash. The goof-ass-hat cook obviously flipped and pressed, flipped and pressed, and pressed the burger again to make it cook faster... you know, like when your uncle Henry grills those crappy inedible hockeypucks on the 4th of July. That's not the way to cook a good hamburger or any piece of meat for that matter. And yes, the bacon was burnt... as in nasty burnt. And yes, the one little slice of tomato was nasty green. You know, like those nasty green-kinda-reddish tomatoes you don't buy at the grocery store because they are tasteless mealy garbage. And yes, the cheese was ruined. Just like uncle Henry, the goof-ass-hat cook put the cheese on too early and had the temp too high and then covered the hamburger so it cooks quicker... that way the cheese melts into a unidentifiable and tasteless waxy-looking coating. Sweet! Now you have crap. As in, you have a $13.00 Broadway Grill burger which is indistinguishable from that shit uncle Henry grills... the crap everybody hates. So what about the beer? The bartender will unpredictably disappear for 20-minutes - she is standing outside smoking a cigarette and chatting with other employees. Fukkin irritating when you want another beer... even more irritating when you want to leave and there is no bartender to cash you out. Seriously, the place is crap. And don't even get me started on the weekend breakfast buffet that tries to be a bad imitation of those breakfast buffets they have at shit-hole motels. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

P.S. For all you idjuits who are giving BG a 5-star review because Eric is so friendly and attentive... Eric quit. He now bartenders at some Asian restaurant downtown.

P.S.S. For you complete goofs who are giddy that BG now has "happy hour all day" - it's a scam. There is one crap domestic beer and one decent domestic beer discounted all day. The remaining beers - most likely what you want to order - is full price. But they won't tell you that. You ask, "Are the beers on happy-hour?" and they say, "Happy-hour all day!" so you order the Mac-n-Jack or Peroni or any of the other tab beers and... ha ha... fooled you... except for two beers the rest are all full-price.

This is one of those restaurants that's better know for hanging out, drinking on the sidewalk cafe, and people watching while the food is just average. I've been here a couple times, and it definitely is a lively crowd and is always a good time for happy hour.

But the food is definitely mediocre. This is one of those places that has a lot of pre-made items, such as frozen fries. The last visit I ordered a blue cheese & bacon burger. The service was really slow too. You could tell the waiter had too many tables and couldn't handle it, but I can overlook that. What I couldn't overlook was the overcooked burger. I love my burger medium-rare and expect it to be correct. Come on - it's just a burger! So I sent it back and quickly had a new burger. This time it was cooked perfectly. It was juicy and the blue cheese and bacon were great. The fried onions they put on the burger though were greasy and lifeless and the wedge fries were boring.

So in the end, I wouldn't recommend this place for the food but definitely a fun place to hang out with friends, drink, and people watch.

The mums and I went here yesterday to have a late lunch. I was eager to show her my favorite places on Capitol Hill and thought that Broadway Grill was a sure bet.

We ordered the smoked pork carnitas, which were like pulled pork tacos and the dungeness crab sandwich. I figured we couldn't go wrong but boy was I mistaken. My mom probably thinks I have the worst taste in food!

My pork tacos were dry and I had to pick very large pieces of fat out of the pork before I was able to eat it. The pork was overcooked and very disappointing. My mom's sandwich was an onion sandwich, not a crab one. I literally saw one small half inch piece of crab on each side of her sandwich with enough onions spilling over to flavor a whole country of pico de gallo.

She looked at me over her onion sandwich with a glint in her eyes which said, "My yuppie daughter's really gone and done it this time."

Broadway Grill, first you get rid of the pull and eat shrimp bucket and now this... so sad, so sad.

My two girlfriends and here came for their late night happy hour after the drag show at Julia's just down the street.

There's a drink minimum for dining there so I ordered a gin & tonic which was $2.50, which was a pretty good deal for well drinks. My friend got the green apple jolly rancher shot for $2 and she said that it was really tasty. As for food, I ordered a small Caesar salad since there was a note saying that it was best place to order a salad so I did. It wasn't bad but it tasted like a normal Caesar to me. *shrug*

Service was kind of slow too and there weren't even that many people in the restaurant at like 1 a.m.

But one thing that I did like about the restaurant was that it was pretty diner-ish inside, played good music and it was cozy overall.

Had brunch over Labor Day with friends.

Disgusting food.

The rosemary potatoes were obviously a frozen product--and looked dehydrated sitting in their chafing dish. No rosemary flavor at all.

The little maple-syrup glazed sausages were tough from sitting too long. (The bacon was at least not over-cooked).

The Eggs Benedict's English muffins were soggy and not toasted.

The waffles were tough, and leathery as an old face.

The sliced ham had the weirdest consistency--like slimy gelatinous spam mousse...

The decor was as tired as the french toast.

This place needs a major face-lift. REALLY disappointing food. The only good thing was the coffee was strong and hot.

Our bearded Server was on top of it--but he handed us waters and coffees by holding onto the rims of the vessels--isn't that the first thing you learn waiting tables 101--to NOT touch the rims of glasses where customer's lips are going to drink?

Would NEVER go back here.

COASTAL KITCHEN had been suggested--haven't tried it yet, but sure wish we had --anything would have been better than that tired food prepared so poorly. $12.95 included one Mango Mimosa, coffee was an additional charge if you took the Mimosa though...

I've been to The Broadway Grill twice now.  The first time was for happy hour,  which I enjoyed.  We sat inside, but right next to the patio.  It was fun to people watch and be on the periphery of the action outside.  I didn't remember the service being particularly bad, but I wonder if it was because were there early and business was still slow.  I got the sliders here too, and they were very tasty (anyone noticing a trend with me and sliders?)  Happy hour does have a two drink minimum, so my friend ordered two drinks for herself (anyone else noticing my teetotalling trend?) and that was just fine.

The second time I went to The Broadway Grill was for dinner, before salsa dancing at the Century Ballroom.  This time, the service was  noticeably HORRIBLE.  We actually felt like our waiter was ignoring us on purpose, which was so annoying, especially since it wasn't that busy.

Bottom line: only go to The Broadway Grill for happy hour, and only if you don't care when your food and drinks come.

Wow, wow, wow - these guys are TOTAL jerks.

A group of 6 of us thought this place would be a fun spot for a drink on a really nice night last week.  The front to the restaurant opens up to the street and it was beautiful out.  The front of the restaurant was pretty crowded (the back empty), but there was a perfect 6-top sitting open and still uncleaned.  Things were looking good.

The manager finally came up to the host stand after about 5 minutes and gave us this really rude, disgusted face out of nowhere.  This guy was a total B**** right off the start (and B**** is really the most appropriate adjective).  He asked (in a very snotty way) what we wanted, and we said we'd come in for drinks and food.  The whole interaction lasted 2 minutes, but I swear he was treating us like we'd just returned from clubbing baby seals.  He said the table was open but we could sit in the back or he'd seat us up front when he got around to it in 30 - 60 minutes.  Then he just disappeared before we could even respond.  We were al taken aback as we thought we must have missed something, so we stood there waiting for him.  After 5 or 10 minutes we realized he wasn't returning.

Seriously, I've never had this kind of treatment at what I expect is an otherwise decent restaurant.  They were busy and I'd have understood if he explained that they were under-staffed or something, but to treat us like crap and run away is inexcusable.  No manager should ever treat a customer like that, no matter how crazy his or her day is going.  We probably would have spent a couple hundred bucks that night and made it a regular spot if it had been fun, but now none of us will ever return.  They've lost my business and I'll make sure my friends hear about this too.

Our last experience here (waiter never came back to take our orders so we walked out) was the reason I ended up deciding to start reviewing places on Yelp.

It's been about 1.5 years, and last night I finally decided to give it another go. I wish I hadn't... and I kind of wonder if Joe C was right about the "servers are sexist toward heteros" bit.

Service: Interesting theme going on with that one.... lots of tall, goodlooking-ish young men. My favorite was the one that had his shirt halfway unbuttoned to show off his chest. How was the actual service? It was okay, but I got the distinct feeling of "service with a smile, but we're really just going through the motions." This was most evident when they asked how the food was. My guy didn't feel comfortable saying "I asked for medium, and this is burned (on the 'hidden' bottom of patty) and over-cooked" (mostly because he was really hungry and didn't want to wait for a new burger), so he replied with a very un-enthusiastic "It's... alright." Their response was chillingly cheerful. Well... maybe not chillingly... but it would have fit better if we had responded with something like "It's great, thanks!"

Food: I was VERY excited about my SW red bean veggie burger. The food came out looking great, but flavor-wise I thought it was pretty bland. I was also excited about my sweet potato fries, and was quite bummed when they came out dry and tasting like they had been warmed up several times over. We ended up asking for a replacement on those, and... while improved... tasted pretty much the same.

My guy got one of the beefy burgers, and was mostly upset about it being small and overcooked (when he asked for medium). He did like his (steak?) fries, though, and that was good. He really didn't think it was worth $12.

Last thoughts?
We didn't feel like we got our money's worth and barely enjoyed any of the food, so this was our last time at the Broadway Grill. Obviously others have had good experiences here and enjoyed it, but that just hasn't been the case here.

Eric! THE Best Bartender in the city. He knows his way around the bar. Remembers your name and drink and will always have a great time when you visit (during his shifts t-f) Sit at the bar for the best service. The food is decent. Mostly sysco, but some items can get addictive.

The Grill is something else. This place is stuck in the 80's. The owner likes J-Lo and Madonna...enough to have someone paint pictures of them and put them up prominatly throughout the front dining area.

Oh man, I've been trying to avoid reviewing Broadway Grill. It's SO hit-or-miss, as far as I'm concerned. I know you can't expect that with a zillion servers and I'm sure a bunch of line cooks you'll get the same experience every time, but c'mon... the portion sizes changing? The ingredients changing??? One enthusiastic WTF.

Sometimes you'll be ignored, which I'm actually not that bothered by. It's the belittling manner that really gets me. I'm NOT down with the whole, "I'm gonna rest my arms on your table and call you 'hun' at eye level while I may or may not remember your order cause I'm so clearly suspicious about your obviously real ID" thing. NO THANKS.

This is the only place I can think of that serves Absolut or Stoli for under $4 though (during happy hour). A star for that.

Ugh, I sort of get stressed out thinking about Broadway Grill.

I am medium about this place. Staff have always been friendly to me. I enjoyed the food, but it is um.. average, Nothing stuck out. Nice to go somewhere off Broadway when you are tired and want simple food and good service.

It's a shame because Broadway Grill used to be excellent when it came to their service, food, and employees. I'm no sure if they took on new management but this place suddenly went from 4 stars to 1 within 1 year. The last i went there i ordered my favorite burger and they burnt it, took 500 million years to wait on us for anything, gave us rude attitudes, and everything had tasted stale. I was so pissed that we just walked out without paying the bill because they were doing such a horrible job at watching over their customers that they didn't even notice us not pay and leave out the door. Broadway Grill i used to love you but now i curse you to hell for ruining The Misty Isle Angus burger.

UPDATE  7/22/09

New Management of The Broadway Grill contacted me to apologize for the bad experience and they have promised me a good experience next time i come in. I have given a promise that i will update my review depending on change of service. So far i have a lot of respect for the commitment they have set forth to change my own thoughts on this place. I will update again soon to review the next experience.

If you asked me a year ago, I would have given The Broadway Grill two stars and probably made a snarky comment about not being hip enough to sit near the window.

BUT, when my coworker and I went last week for lunch with two of our mentally ill clients, the staff could not have been more accommodating and lovely. I had the crab sandwich, which was great, and they let our clients order off the menu (JUST LIKE AT THE WHITE HOUSE!). Finally, they gave us our coffee on the house for no good reason.

So, uh, Yay! I'm a fan.

The Broadway Grill is a Seattle landmark. If you like cocktails, dance music, fresh-fatty food and checking people out, you will like this place. ERIC in my opinion is the best bartender in Seattle. He's great at his job and one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet.

I think the food is great. I have friends who think differently but they probably ordered the wrong thing. If you're not sure what to get just order the Jerk Chicken and you'll be impressed. If you're there for Happy Hour you've gotta try the Sliders. They have carmelized onion, mushrooms and smoked gouda.... yummmmy. Oh, and if you like beer, try the Mighty Arrow, it's quite nice.

Broadway grill is great during the summer when the door is open. I love the super friendly, always gay waiters that I have. They're great. Food is pretty good too, but nothing amazing. Wish it was a little cheaper for what it is.

My experience at Broadway Grill was awesome. I've been here twice and both times my meals were tasty. It's better to sit outside people watching for a true Braodway experience. After your meal it's best to walk across the street to Vivace and take a stroll.

Well after two pretty good showings I'm upping the rating by 1 star.  The service was pretty good both times.  My parents went with us for brunch and then we went again looking for something we hadn't been to in a while.

The brunch was good all around and everyone was pleased, and the second I showed up things were great too.  My macaroni au gratin was excellent. My wife loved her french toast (I can't remember what the special flavor was...)

The usual aloof service was definitely not there these two times.  Keep it up and I'll start to come back as often as before.

I've only been to this place once but when i did go i got to try their jolly rancher shots. The watermelon flavor is amazing. It was only $2 and was very strong. The food that i had was this cheesy fry thing but it was quite sour and has a weird white sauce on it.

The place has a great ambiance and i like how the front wall opens up and has outdoor seating. I will definitely go back to try some more things.
