Sorry this review has taken so long.  I was in Mobile for work over a weekend last month and had to work long, inconvenient hours...it made it hard to visit The Brick Pit.  The fact that they are closed on Sunday and Monday made me glad I had a complication at work and had to stay until Tuesday.

I was there right before my flight back, a bit before when they opened at 11am, but they were courteous and let me in before I collapsed in despair of having been to Alabama sans BBQ.

I went all out and had the 1/2 smoked pulled pork and 1/2 BBQ Rib plate for lunch ($8.99), with homemade cole slaw and BBQ beans.  A lot for breakfast, but I had a nightmare of foodless connections ahead of me.  Best to start fortified.

Don't remember the rest, except a haze of pork, beef, and some mighty flavorful BBQ...full of spice and smoke, juicy and tender...then looking down, despondent, at a couple of bare bones on an empty plate.

Next time I get to work in Mobile,  I'll look for the little Weber grill in front of your sign.  If it's smoking, I know there's crazy goodness waiting for me inside.

Best BBQ in the area! I usually get pulled pork sandwich --- just can't get away from it! Baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw --- it's all good. By the way, if you choose to dine in, the place is BYOB -- saves lots of $$$!

Best BBQ outside the state Texas. And even if you include Texas, its as good as Texas's best. The pulled pork  and baked beans are awesome, and thats all i have to say about that.

like they say there... It's Serious Bar-B-Que!!!!!

The lunch menu, you can't go wrong with..  seriously..  the pork is smoked for like 30 hours, the ribs for over 10. the food on lunch menu is simple, 3 plates, each at 6.75.

Check it out. Good eatin' ya'll!!

Pretty damn good BBQ. From the gravel parking lot to the sweet tea, the place is all sorts of Alabama...they have 'Bama gear and memorabilia everywhere.  The BBQ was pretty good, I had the pulled pork...it's not Carolina pork by any means but it's good. Especially for Alabama BBQ. Banana Pudding is like crack for me, it was on the menu so i had to get it and it was awesome. I wouldn't go in with any Auburn gear on.

This GREAT BBQ.  Their response to Dreamland moving into Mobile................."This ain't a DREAM - its the real thing".  How true!!!  Local and authentic southern bar-b-que - that's all I can say.  Near the University of South Alabama - this is my favorite bar-b-que in Mobile (see review on Saucy Q).  Like I said in my Saucy Q review - BBQ is a very personal thing - but I can't imagine that ANYONE who loves BBQ would not appreciate The Brick Pit and the time they put into producing a wonderful piece of smoked meat.  It is not "over a fire" - quickly cooked stuff - it is SMOKED - really SMOKED - for hours and hours.  And unlike most BBQ restaurants - they have a choice of sauces - all of which are excellent!

I like the pulled pork best - you can't go wrong with smoking a wonderful cut of pork for 30 hours.  The ribs and chicken are good - but the pulled pork is something to write home about - not to mention thanking your lucky stars that there are still restaurants who will put that much time into preparing something with tradition!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're in Mobile for a visit - or even if you live here and haven't tried it - - please treat yourself and realize what great smoked meat can taste like.  The only way you could possibly beat this is at the home of a southern BBQ purist who is really trying to impress you with their BBQ skills .  While you are waiting for that invitation - walk into the Brick Pit anytime and get it!!!!!!!!!!!
