If the Spotted Pig is for guys in khakis and the girls who (don't work) and love them, then The Breslin is for guys in skinny jeans and the girls who wax poetic about them. Either way, The Breslin did not fall far from the tree. Not that it is a bad tree to fall from. The Spotted Pig (crowds not withstanding) always has great food and a fun if slightly snooty vibe. The Breslin has the same feel and the decor is pretty much the same, except the high ceilings house some gothy looking chandeliers which is a little more Gemma than anything else.

The menu threw me for a loop though. Perhaps I should have been clued in by the 5, 732 pig figurines strategically scattered (and oddly not secured) around the restaurant. The dinner menu is very pork heavy. There are small bites (nuts and the like) for single digit prices and a whole section of terrines of which you can get a large or small plate.

The appetizers start at about $10 and go up to around $17. The smoked salmon with bacon pieces, mizuna and mustard was well done as was the ham and picalilli. The side seasonal pumpkin salad was also good.

It was the entrees that threw me for a loop. Of the 8-10 entrees you could choose from, it seemed the majority were $30+. There was a fish and a poultry and one steak. Two of the entrees were for two, including the pork belly for 2 that would set you back $50. The cheapest was the lamb burger which was $17. My wallet is still in recession spending. The Breslin's? Not so much.

The brunch menu, which we peaked at, seemed much more well rounded and that will be our next trip.

The food was very good, but it was certainly not as flexible a menu as Spotted P, but as long as the hipsters like it, The Breslin will do fine.

We checked this spot out for dinner a couple nights ago and I was in love before I even tasted anything!
The decor is comfy cool with a retro vibe. The lobby bar was hopping and is set up for cozying up in one of their fab couches to enjoy many a cocktail. We opted for the bar within the restaurant while we waited for our table and tested a couple of their signature cocktails. My fave was their spin on a greyhound with a spicy salt rim. We only waited for about 15 mins for our table (though we were at the end of primetime, around 10 on a Weds night).

While we wanted to order everything on the menu, we went with a few selections that our waiter recommended and we were not disappointed. We tried the small terrine board, which was delicious (the pickles and mustards that accompany it made it extra tasty), the mussel curry soup which was rich and complex, the caesar salad which may be the best I've ever had thanks to the anchovies that were pured into the dressing and we ended the night with a lamb burger. Everything was delicous and I can't wait to go back to try everything else on the menu.

Service was excellent by all the serving staff and the somelier also helped us pick out a great affordable bottle.

I'm a raving fan and will be back again and again.

Grabbed lunch here today.  The place is on an unassuming block in Korea town area.  If you want hip, this is pretty much it in the hood when you walk through the door.  It is located in the ACE hotel.  Hats off to the team from Spotted Pig for another winner.

Split the mixed grill and the Lamb Burger.  Both were good.  The lamb burger was the clear favorite for my friend and I.  Perfectly cooked and topped with a delicious feta, there was nothing dry about it.  The thrice cooked fries were pretty friggin awesome too.  We were a bit intimidated by the amount on the plate of the mixed grill.  This would be great as an appetizer for people who only eat meat and you brought four of your closest carnivore friends, dogs, bears or even lions.

Look forward to dining here again.  Love the cool decor as well.  The service was definitely friendly and attentive.

Hmm -

Space: Lovely.  My friends and absolutely enjoyed the interior of the restaurant and of the lobby for Ace Hotel.
Service: Decent.  They were overbooked and the hostess was kind enough to keep us updated.  Our waitress was friendly and funky.
Food: Their sides of home fries were delicious and the sausages were great.  And overall, the food is super well seasoned.  They must have an expert salt-user in their kitchen.  Great.

BUT.. and these are big BUTS...

a) What's with the LONG wait for food?
It took them a good 20-30 minutes to serve us our apps.  Another 20-30 minutes for our eggs to come out.

b) Side of mixed green salad: My friend ordered the 7 dollar side order of green salad.  The serving of green salad was (and I'm not exaggerating) the smallest order of salad I had ever seen.  Either they expected her to enjoy every LEAF of that salad... otherwise, she or anyone could have finished that salad in 4 bites.  What also surprised me was that it came pre-mixed in anchovy-drenched caesar salad dressing.  If I'm correct, caesar salad dressing is NOT for everyone - wouldn't, then, the restaurant want to "note" that on the menu?

c) Portions are WAY too small.  Really had a hard time doing the math and understanding why my friend was paying 16 bucks for 2 eggs and 3 paper-thin slices of chorizo baked in a skillet.

d) Since the eggs don't come with anything else, you're encouraged to order any of the 7 dollar sides.  Or toast - which comes dry.  Now, if you ask ONLY for butter, it'll be free.  But, if you order jam, they'll charge you 2.50 for that.  Supposedly, as we were later told, it's locally made "special" jam.  I get it - but, I just kinda think if you're a venue serving brunch/breakfast regularly, you should have the capability of providing COMPLIMENTARY condiments.

Basically I left hungry and a little cranky from ALL the waiting.  Maybe Breslin is paying high rent prices to the building management... whatever.  But, it wasn't what I expected.  My friends say it's "hotel prices".  I guess.  I'm still having a hard time doing the math and making it work in my mind.

I dunno - maybe dinner will be different?  I mean - Spotted Pig's meal is well worth the money to me.  I just didn't get this one.

been hesitant to review this place because it's my favorite brunch experience in NYC. hands down my favorite. but then they opened for dinner a few days ago and I know it'll be a wrap, so whatever.

just get your ass here. dont worry about the neighborhood sucking, just know that this place has the best coffee, music, vibe, and food of any other brunch option. don't fight it.

Inaugural brunch featuring the works of Fergus Henderson, I enjoyed the terrine board (regular menu) and blood cake with eggs.  Nice depth of flavors in both, but especially fond of the fullness of flavor in the latter that comes with cooking blood with pork and pork fat and other bits of pork.  Did I mention that there's pork in there?

The Welsh Rarebit seemed like a glorified grilled cheese sandwich and slightly forgettable.  The kedgeree was fine, but nothing about the flaked fish, rice, and chopped up boiled eggs jumped out at me.

I only had the fries - but they were the most amazing and wonderful fries ever!!!  We ate them in the hotel lobby on the big comfy sofa.  I am a total fan.

Ive had lunch here a couple of times, its just up the street from home, and plan to be a regular. Can't wait for the dinner service to start!
The room is gorgeous~actually the entire hotel is beautifully done and the Breslin flows perfectly from the lobby.
Ive eaten at the bar both times. Loved the plate of pates: huge portions, well presented, and not a poor performer among the three varieties.
I also had the roasted pumpkin with persimmon seeds. Absolutely delish.
A little bit of annoyance with a film crew taking the place over for a shoot, but not awful
The second visit: had the tongue sammy. Now, for some reason, waited too long for the food to arrive, had to ask about it,  was comped a drink, so all good. Just what should happen if a customer waits too long.
Speaking of the service~the bar staff is super, They all seem happy to be there, friendly, fun to talk to, excellent with the service of the food,
Now, I would have rather had the fries with the sammy(dont remember what the side was, it was ok, not great) but they don't/can't sub, so its either the fries alone or with another dish they come along side. The tongue sammy itself was awesome. A nice little tangy horseradish spread sets it off perfectly.
I had the roasted mixed squash, changed from pumpkin, liked the pumpkin variety much more. Pumpkin is just a highly underrated squash for roasting in my opinion.
Like it here very much, can see tho, as some of the other reviewers noted, that it would be a wait problem during a busy time. My advice: don't go during a peak. This place is going to be popular so plan accordingly! On the other hand, waiting in the lobby with a cup of Stumptown cant be that bad anyway.

As all have said, great room. Timing is off, but they haven't even been open a week! Let's be realistic, people. Iced tea came with no simple syrup, and when reminded, the bartender put started squeezing some in and said "just say when" not what I expected. The owner was sitting right there and didn't care.  Lamb burger - simple and tasty. Goat cheese and onion tart ($16) ok, but the crust was a bit shortbready, where I would prefer something flaky. I would say that the salad that was the accompaniment was more tasty. Caesar salad ($12) was tasty but completely devoid of pepper. All in all, good food, though, but not for the price point - 2 glasses of wine, shared salad, tart, and sandwich was $74, $87 after a tip. That's rough. I'll try dinner sometime, though.

Came here for a late night drink.  The bar area is pretty cool, huge, and swanky.  The drinks are a bit expensive, even for NY, but I guess it's more for the ambiance than the booze.

Went to brunch at the Breslin today. It's a couple dollars more than similar places but we thought it was really really good. Had the spiced pumpkin pancakes and the skirt steak and eggs. Both were excellent. Here is the brunch menu in case you are curious... (http://www.madparknews...

Forgot to mention that the coffee at Stumptown (adjacent) is really good (French press), and I believe they serve it at the restaurant.

For lunch the lamb burger and triple cheese and ham sandwich are great, and the fries are addictive.

I have been looking forward to The Breslin for a while now and decided to go for brunch with my boyfriend and a friend who was in town to visit.  I thought it would be lovely to treat her to something nice considering it was her last day.
We got there and were really impressed with the design and vibe of the place. Had a couple of drinks at the bar area while we waited for 30mins (even though we were told it was only gonna be 10) and I must say the guy who served us while we waited was really very nice!

When we finally sat down my boyfriend and I both ordered the vegetarian option of the curried lentils with poached eggs (delicious)! Our friend opted for the baked eggs with chorizo which she described as nothing extraordinary special and she was still hungry :( .

We also decided to have some home fries which were really good and the green salad. Let me put something out there. If 2 people order a vegetarian option-chances are they may or may not be vegetarian!! now imagine getting a green salad (it says green salad on the menu-period), forking up a load of lush looking leafs and to find (shock, horror, omg) ANCHOVIES!!! not the actual little fillets but definitely hiding in the dressing! THAT is a load in the mouth if you haven't eaten any meat in about 20 years.

Thankfully we are both not vegetarians but have a lot of friends who are and they would be absolutely horrified! besides that-it was not a good dressing in my eyes. Overly salty and too fishy- I've had really great anchovy based dressings, tapanades etc. (this one i could not eat and i usually eat everything) PLEASE tell people about it! or WRITE IT ON THE MENU!!!
Some might like a very fishy,salty dressing-we didn't.
When our waitress came to 'check back' ( i believe 'check backs' are there to make sure the guests are happy with the food?)  I told her we were a bit surprised and not too happy with the dressing but she didn't really seem in any way concerned.

All in all- lovely space, some really nice dishes, some really bad dishes, a bit expensive for what you are getting and it seems like they need to work on their communication.

It is a new place so I hope it'll improve. I'll give it another shot and try dinner there-hope it's better.

went yesterday for brunch, the place is decorated with taste and atmosphere, my bloody mary was delish and the staff members were nice and professional, but the good stuff ends here I'm afraid..
I understand that this establishment has been open for no more than two weeks but this is indeed New York City, so they should know better, I waited for 1 1/2 hours for my food to be served, at first I asked and the waitress said she was going to check with the kitchen, when 20 more minutes passed with no food I asked again and she apologized and said it would be 5 more minutes, 20 more went by....
now two waiters and what I believe was the floor manager came to the table to apologize for the delay, which I appreciate but doesn't make my food appear faster, what I didn't appreciate was the little bag of salted almonds they brought to the table to make up for the wait, you have to be kidding to do so after I've complained that I'm actually hungry...when the orders actually materialized on the table, the portions were small, the bacon soft, and the eggs overcooked (unacceptable), they offered a complimentary dessert which was a nice touch, but did I mention the total bill came to about $89 for 1 bloody mary, two beers, and two orders of eggs with a side dish...the food was simply not that good to justify the wait, adn frankly overpriced for the quality....
I should also mention that the restaurant was NOT busy at all with a few tables open in the upstairs area as well as in the main dining room, which makes my wait even more unjustified..
New York has many brunch spots to choose from for me to go back to the Breslin anytime soon...
