This weekend we ate at Nepenthe in Big Sur and the Flying Fish, one of Carmel's best. But the B-Club was my favorite stop. Maybe I'm low rent, but it's clean, the staff busts it, the menu is vast and complete.
Families intertwined form a tradition of good service, deftly weaving in Mexican culture and cuisine, like the incredible chile verde omelet I had with spicy biscuits and gravy on the side.
If you want fancy, go to Carmel but if you want a slice of today's true California fusion try the Breakfast Club. -

After living in the Monterey area for years, I have finally tried this place! It's bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside.
The decor is what caught my attention right away. The table is covered with advertisements for local businesses. It's a little hard on the eyes. I guess that's how they make most of their money though, so good for them for thinking of that, I guess. The tables are also somewhat close together, so I felt a tiny bit claustrophobic. My boyfriend didn't seem to notice that, so maybe it was just me.
As for the food, I have no complaints. I tried their turkey and avocado eggs benedict, and it was pretty good! I still like Tico's breakfast better, though. I got a side of fresh fruit instead of fries or hash browns, and it was a huge plate of fruit! That was a nice surprise, definitely got my money's worth.
Overall, it's a nice place to grab breakfast or brunch, but nothing super special or out of the ordinary. Worth checking out at least once. -
Review from Polly R.
The name itself may be a bit too easy, but my 80's butt can't help liking it. I also liked their super "on it" staff and friendly service. Most of the employees were sporting Niners jerseys and shirts on the day I visited, on account of the playoffs. (Sorry Niners :/ )
On to the reason I even walked through the door in the first place: the food.
I don't think it was bad, but I also don't think it was something I would crave or cut unicorn's horn off for. The portions were nice, the potatoes looked better than they tasted, and the eggs Benedict were a bit heavy on the sauce so I couldn't really eat them. I would probably not order that again.
The Breakfast Club seems to have a strong following and the place was booming, so I do recommend it for a decent breakfast with great service. -

Review:
1) Service is spotty. Sometimes aloof. Getting a refill of coffee takes an act of Congress. The coffee waiter often passes by without a refill. One of the guys pours the refill from two feet up, making your coffee full of air bubbles. He's entertained by it but I'm not. Just give me a refill. Ditto for water. I ordered a water and didn't get it. Instead, the drinks guy stood around talking to friends at one of the tables.
2) The food is a step up from Denny's in many cases. Average. Pancakes I had were uncooked inside, the gooey middle of flour and water oozed out. No thanks.
3) The tables are plastered with advertisements so that you are bombarded with dozens of ads every time you take a bite or look down. What's next? ads on the food itself? Crass is the word that comes to mind. There's also two TV screens on the wall showing ads. Is this a restaurant or ad venue?
4) The potatoes I ate were burned, bottom of the pan hard and black. Maybe the cook thought this was ok? Maybe the waitress thought so also. Doesn't anyone quality check the food? I doubt it. It looks like they go for BIG portions, hoping that will satisfy. I'd like regular portion of EXCELLENT food. I included a photo of my burnt potatoes. They should have taken them off the bill. I didn't ask, it's something the waitress should have done automatically.
5) it's not cheap. My meal was $14. They charged like $2 for the real maple syrup, a tiny 2 tablespoons worth.
Overall, 2 stars. -

I came here as the final meal from a wonderful Seaside/Monterey getaway with my girlfriend which was filled with excellent food. I had obtained a coupon from the hotel we stayed at and we decided to use it at The Breakfast Club.
Walking in, I smelled a wonderful plethora of breakfast items which immediately made me even hungrier than I already was. We ordered and, to be honest, it was probably the most mediocre breakfast I've ever had in my life. It wasn't bad food, but it wasn't worth the price and didn't have anything close to being good enough for me to remember what I ate.
I don't think I'll be back, but who knows-sometimes these places are better the next time. -

I was in Monterey for the weekend and i wanted a good breakfast. So i yelped my little heart out until i found The Breakfast Club. I decided to give it a try after all it had descent reviews. To my surprise it was pretty busy, it was definitely the place to be on a Sunday morning. I ordered an omelet with orange juice. My boyfriend ordered the French toast plate with coffee. We were both content with our meals. The service and the food were great. If I'm ever in Monterey again this will definitely be stopping by again.

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. And the food here is pretty good. The place was busy like always. But we were seated right away. I ordered bacon, eggs, potatoes and biscuits & gravy. The biscuits & gravy were very good. The country potatoes were a little dry and lacking seasoning. Next time I'll order the hashbrowns.
Everything else was fine.
Service was good and fast. -

What a great place!
We had more expensive meals in our little vacay on the Monterey Peninsula, but none better than our breakfast here. My husband, tucking into his Chile Verde omelet, said, "I'm so happy you overslept." (They serve breakfast until their 2 p.m. close.)
Our waitress, a friendly knockout, had been working there for 21 years. (Since she was, like, eight?) Her mom was also working there; her cousin, she said, was back in the office. Photos of the workers, their families and children, added a homey touch to the counter area. And I loved the local businesses' ads on the tables. This place definitely works, not just as "the busiest place in town," but as a great local resource.
The coffee is strong and very good; my two-egg breakfast with hot links was amazing. Next time I'll try the corned beef hash.
I promise there will be a next time. :)Listed in: Plenty Good Num Nums

Great! Service was good even though it was busy. One of the waiters was running around to get things done. Nice to see the hustle. Food was good and large portions.
All of the advertising on the tables is a bit off.
And why no pictures from the movie?! -

I'm not a huge breakfast fan, but when I get breakfast I'm fairly picky. I usually judge my breakfast places on a few things. 1. Hash browns-these hash browns are perfect for my liking. They are crispy and fluffy at the same time. 2. Sausage quality-they make their own sausage. It was crispy and moist. 2. Pancakes-I haven't had these in a while but I remember them being fluffy and delicious!
Breakfast passed all of my tests. The only problem I had was the service. They had one girl as the server for all of the tables in the place and she was clearly overwhelmed. She wasn't friendly at all and was short and slightly rude. I will go back because the food was good. -

im in love with this place now. You have the option of getting biscuits and gravy insted of toast.
the people who put low ratings should be thrown from the roof so we can all point laugh as they try to move. -
Review from Eddie W.
When it comes to breakfast, it is really hard for me to get excited and that much harder to be impressed.
I tend to order savory vs sweet things for breakfast just because the sweetness can become overwhelming. This time around I decided to try the Italian Omelet (mild Italian sausage and jack cheese topped with marinara and Parmesan cheese).
IMO, simply putting Italian sausage into an omelet and topping it with marinara sauce w/ parmesan cheese does not make it "Italian". The flavors were muted and lacked depth.
While the dish was executed well enough, that's where the positive notes end. I felt that little effort was made in conceiving that dish. The sauce tasted from a can, the sausage was average at best and everything was severely under seasoned.
A splash of Italian herbs, maybe saute some red bell peppers or make the sausage and sauce from scratch are just some ways to make the dish better.
The side of biscuits and gravy was also truly disappointing. Last I checked, it advertised as "spicy" gravy. There was nothing spicy about it and was served lukewarm. The texture of the gravy was off putting and unpleasant to my palate. Last but not least, the home fries, like everything else, desperately needed seasoning.
Overall Thoughts
I don't care for breakfast; The Breakfast Club only further reinforced my dislike1 Previous Review: Show all »

You have to wake up early to enjoy this hidden gem, it's only open until 2pm. Or go before church lets out on Sundays because it gets packed! (always a good sign!)
Whether you go in for breakfast or lunch, you won't be disappointed. I usually head there for their breakfast, even at 1pm because it's so good and so filling.
Their omlettes are large and fluffy and filled with fixins. Their potatoes O'Brian are great. The pancakes and waffles are huge! And the coffee is always flowing!
I've been a few times for lunch, and their turkey sandwich is killer. There are TVs around the restaurant that show pictures of other menu items, and their salads always look so good. Somehow I always talk myself out of it, but one day, I'll try one. -

Hmmm, never ate at this joint prior til today even though I worked 'round the corner for years. I am not sure what the big damn fuss is about. I felt like I walked into somebody's Grandma's house! - what with the green-ish carpeting and the vegetable wallpaper borders. And what is with being assaulted by the advertising? You read your table? I don't get it.
Delightful service - although our server charged the Boss and I for the wrong items when she clearly told us when she walked off who she was charging for what.
The half tuna melt and soup hit the spot and was large. I still wouldn't go back. It was packed though. Good for them. -

Consistently in the top breakfast spots in Monterey County, if not as far as the Bay Area. Fast, friendly and freaking delicious. Definitely try Ron's Omelet or any eggs benedict (on a croissant!). Heck - the fruit bowl is awesome! I love this place.

It is ironic that I find myself here several times even though breakfast is never my favorite meal. But here I am enjoying a cup of coffee outside while waiting for my name to be called so that my party can be seated.
It is neat that there is free coffee outside with clean cups for anyone waiting to be seated. It is even neater that EVEN if you're not going to eat there and would like to leech a coffee that no one will stop you or figure that you are actually doing so.
Oh well, besides that, I would admit that the food is nothing spectacular and the service is straightforward and friendly (without the usual smiles that you'd think would match the seeming excitement in their voice).
I found that the tendency that happens here is the food either is under- or over-salted. Corn beef hash is one of my favorite breakfasts (and I've seen this dish made in so many different fashions). The way it is prepared here is also a little different in taste than what I commonly have but it sure is SALTY! It doesn't stop me from having half of it though and then bring the rest home to dilute with more eggs like a good egg loving fan would do.
I've tried their omelets as well and these on the other hand are the under-salted dishes. I can't complain though. I rather have these come out under-salted so that I myself can salt and ketchup it to taste (this isn't France so I would lose my hand to an angry chef screaming obscenities that his dish didn't come perfect already).
Anyways, I'll be back to eat here again. The atmosphere is still great for fellowship with friends and family alike while they get in their favorite meal as I pretend that it is also my favorite.
NOTE:
If you have a large party, make sure they are all there or they won't seat you until they all arrive. -

I like to think that if a place is crowded, it's going to be good. This place is no exception. I think I may have found a new favorite breakfast place! I was with a group of 6, so we had to wait a while before we were seated. The table we were seated at was so close to the wall, it was hard to get in and out.
But aside from that, this place is great and I would highly recommend it. The service was friendly and fast for it being crowded. The food was amazing. I loved my cinnamon roll french toast and other members of my party loved their dishes too. -

Came here a couple of weekends ago and ordered the Ollieberry waffle. The waffle was good but I was expecting more out of the berries.
The berries came out basically cold even though they had been heated up and made into a syrup. The waffle was really fluffy and sweet. I would defiantly order the waffles here again, but probably just with the regular syrup. -

I have no big complaints here. I have been here twice now, the first time was a while back but I remembered it as a good experience. The second time, this past weekend on Saturday.
Yes this place is packed, it was around noon and full of people. We didn't mind waiting though. The portions are HUGE. I didn't finish all of my breakfast, their omelettes are huge and they give you a large portion of potatoes, and a good size of their biscuits and gravy. Everything tasted great, minus 1 star because I really don't get the spicy gravy, why does it have to be spicy? I ate it anyway but I prefer your regular good ol gravy.
Service is good, very friendly and they seem to be on top of their tables. The best part about this place its down the street from where I live, super accessible. Whenever the breakfast urge hits, I rather go somewhere close than drive all the way to First Awakenings which is pretty good as well.
Overall, this place is great. -

Always enjoy coming to eat here when in this area.
Weekends plan on waiting in line for table with complimentary coffee.
Large portions with above average prices, but well worth it.
They charge about $3 for a cup of coffee. -

IT'S SO FLUFFY I'M GONA DIE!!!! yeah, that's the description i have for their pancake. This place seriously has the best pancake i've ever had, it's huge, fluffy and pillowy when you bite into it, it's like a mouthful of heaven exploding with softness, soo yummmmmy!!!
i actually got a veggie omelette with spicy gravy and biscuit, despite what others said about their biscuit, i don't find it very good, the gravy isn't really spicy and it's not as flavorful as i thought it would be. and i got a side order of their original cake, and that's seriously the highlight of my breakfast, it's THE. BEST. PERIOD.!
the bf got a corn beef hash scramble with hash brown. but he's not a big fan of their hash brown because it doesn't have much flavor. but he says the scramble is pretty good
PS. come here early, we came here on a sunday around 8:40 in the morning and there's no line we got to sit down right away, but by the time we leave (around 9:30), there's already a LOT of people waiting outside to get in! -

It has been sometime since I ate at the breakfast club, but my last visit was enjoyable. They have a good breakfast for the price. The wait staff is always friendly. They do get crowded though, but the wait time was acceptable.
This is a nice casual place to stop in and have a great breakfast, it is the best breakfast place in town.
It is tucked away in the corner of a shopping center of off Fremont street, so you may not realize its there unless your looking for it. If it had not been recommended to me I probably never would have stopped in since I usually don't go to that shopping center. -

Went here this morning for the first time because we finally managed to crawl out of bed on a Saturday at a decent hour. Close to home, which is a plus and alot of good reviews. In short, it was ok. Decent breakfast spot, but as a few others have admitted, its nothing really to rave about. Our portions where huge, but the food was just ok. Home fries where a little undercooked, and the gravy isnt very appealing. Compared to Katy's Place in Carmel, The Breakfast Club is nearly as expensive for alot less quality.
Service is prompt and friendly and they work hard to get people in and out without trying to rush you. Will probably go again because its convenient. -

they aren't kidding when they say this place is packed on the weekend. but it was ok cuz the turnover was pretty brisk and the place is a good size with lots of tables. the hostess and waitresses were all very nice and friendly, providing great service. the guy who refreshes the coffee was a little on the aggressively friendly side and started to make me nervous about saying "no to more coffee...
i ordered the eggs benedict with country sausage and my friend ordered a ham & cheese omelet...simply heavenly. For the eggs benedict, the hollandaise sauce was just right (not too lemony or eggy) and the eggs not too runny. a nicely toasted english muffin supported everything, rounded out with some seriously delish home fried potatoes. i didn't hear a word from my friend after they brought her omelet, which means she was getting her grub on and i was not to interrupt...
if you're in the monterey area, visiting or just traveling through...make a pitstop at the breakfast club - you will be happy you did.
Note: I would have given them 5 stars, but an error in billing in which my credit card was double-billed, left an annoyed tasted in my mouth. -

Nice brakfast house. It's always been incredibly busy on each of my visits and always feels a bit rushed. There are just too many people to get personalized service. The portions are huge but I've never been overly excited about what you get for the price. I'd say a decent dish after a little bit of a wait. Not quite my style but I can see why it's popular.
I understand the need to service as many people as possible but I think there's a lot to be said about too many at one time. I'd say consider taking out a couple tables, brining in another server and slowing down just a teeney bit. There's nothing better than feeling like your being paid attention to, not just being served. -

Another breakfast favorite! Tucked away in the corner of a little strip mall just inside Seaside.
Large portions and good food. I usually stick to an omelet, substituting the potatoes with fruit - best side of fruit I've seen anywhere around the Monterey area.
Definitely get here early or you'll be standing outside waiting for a table. -

Exactly what a breakfast place should be. Good atmosphere. Surprisingly crowded on a Monday morning, but I had no wait ode a table. There were some military guys and police officers eating. In my experience, those guys are picky about restaurants. A bit close on the seating, but I think it works well. Super attentive staff. Cute waitresses too. I had the turkey and Swiss omelet, very tasty. Proportions were just right for a brunch meal. Go check it out.

Lackluster greasy spoon with huge portions and friendly service.
I avoid it for the most part but once in a while I end up here anyway. I usually get a big bowl of fruit and the oatmeal with soy milk (nice that they offer soy milk). I've also had their breakfast burrito with egg whites and no cheese. It has a lot of avocado and a pretty good salsa. The tortilla is so enormous it usually ends up pushed aside on a bread plate.
One of my ex's LOVED their french toast. He would "eat the shit outta it" as he so eloquently described. Come to think of it, that may not be much of a compliment as he would pretty much eat (the shit outta) any carb in site until it was gone. You be the judge.
The waitresses are upbeat and hard little workers. I heard one of them quit her nursing career because she makes more in tips than she did nursing. Something like $500 a shift and she gets to spend more time with her kid. So that's pretty interesting. Even if its not true. lol
Bottom line... I wouldn't wait in one to eat here, but there's something for everybody on the menu. -

Great spot, family friend and hot servers... I've enjoyed their food before but I've never dined in and I was surprised to see so many tables chairs and this place was bumping around noon today.
Look forward to going back! I had a side of bacon, sausage (yep 4 slices and 4 links each) and a giant pancake with a cup of black coffee. I had a bite or two of my friends S.O.S. ... after a few of those S.O.S. is right!!! Spicy Sausage gravy over their killer biscuits served with a side of hashbrowns (they were out so breakfast potatoes). Killer, literally.1 Previous Review:

I loooove this place. It has way more to offer than your average diner... traditional breakfast fare as well as other delectable combinations. I have to say, I am a sucker for their biscuits with spicy gravy, MMMM!!!
I always get fruit instead of potatoes as a side, and have always been pleasantly surprised. They give you quite a nice amount of fresh fruit, and a good mixture of it. I have always gotten plenty of ripe, fresh berries. The melon has always been ripe, too, which unfortunately is not always the case at a lot of restaurants...
The service is super friendly as well. On my last visit, when I told the guy I didn't need a refill on coffee, he brought me a new cup o joe in a to-go cup... awesome! -

The Breakfast Club is seriously some of the best breakfast places around. Found this gem while I was searching for some serious breakfast places in the Monterey area. This is seriously the ONLY place where I will try something new each time I go there.
They are very reasonably priced and they do not skimp on the amount of food you get. One of the little things that I really like about this place is when you order fruit as one of your sides. They give you A LOT of fruit, not the rinky-dink little fruit bowls from other places, but like "half your plate" amount of fruit. AWESOME!
Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. It does tend to get busier in the later mornings, and especially on the weekends, but it is well worth the wait. -

PORTER RANCH, CA
My bf and I stopped here for breakfast on the way to the 17-mile drive. It had a nice homey feel and it wasn't too crowded. We seated ourselves and the waitress came over very soon after and brought us waters. She was very friendly and checked up on us frequently to fill waters/coffee as did another bust boy. Service was very good.
I ordered the Nova Scotia benedict - salmon and spinach with a side of fruit... AMAZING. The salmon had just the right amount of flavor and the spinach wasn't over cooked. The fruit was very fresh and sweet but since it was on the same plate as my benedict there was some pieces of fruit that had hollandaise sauce all over it and it was a little weird but I still ate it haha... My bf ordered the corn beef hash benedict and it was also tasty but mine was super! Not the best country potatoes I've had but everything else was very delicious! -

Crowded, so get there early. Service was decent, we were helped by several people and seemed to have one main server. Food also came out pretty fast. I had the waffle combo and it was a ton of food. My husband had an omelette and we both enjoyed our food. I definitely want to try the cheese blintz next time after seeing it on the TV in there ;-)
