Every Gallery opening I have been to here has always been amazing, plus its Splitends Salon during the day. http://www.splitends.com

Definitely a place you need to see...

Fathom... the latest exhibit at The Box Gallery had it's reception on Saturday, May 15th, 2010, which included original works by Stephanie Han Windham ( aka on Yelp as Steph W. ). It was a very ocean friendly show. Lots of cool sea blues, greens and creatures of the deep. The live goldfish found swimming in the hair wash basins were amusing, especially to the small children running about.

If you're accustomed to going to art galleries in LA, the size of this space will disappoint you as it's smaller than a single car garage, but the art was professionally presented so that almost makes up for the small space. I found the DJ stationed on the second floor irritating because you couldn't carry on a conversation with the artists!

I attended the Box Gallery opening tonight and was amazed how they transformed the salon into this little gallery. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. It didn't look like a salon at all.

The first showcase by Aaron Kraten is pretty cool, some of which is done on wood. It reminded me of some Japanese style art I've seen before. Prices ranged from $100 to the thousands and some of which had that ubiquitous red dot on it signaling that it had been purchased.

I hope to attend many more gallery shows here and I finally got to meet Johnny so that alone was worth going for.

I just came this past Saturday to the opening of their new exhibit, Above and Below, and was really impressed by how they managed to take a small space and do so much with it. It looks like a gallery with some salon stations thrown in, meaning that it's very professional and definitely not just a salon trying to hang up some random pictures and call it a gallery.

Johnny S is a doll and did such a fantastic job with this show. And Christopher and all the girls were super friendly, especially with keeping the wine flowing. There was a great DJ, several seating areas outside, and even chalk to play with. By the end of the night it seemed like everyone had made their mark on the pavement outside.

I'm looking forward to the next show, especially since now I know where The Box is. [Damn my phone and it's lack of being able to googlemap me correct directions, thus making me even later than I already was. And shush up certain person for telling me all the time how much my phone sucks.]

I showed at the box gallery for there first show.
I have been showing work for 8 years at various gallery's and this is one of the best shows i have ever had.
A great space with a lot of style.
The curator Johnny is very charismatic and great fun to work with.
This space went over and above my expectations , selling work not only to local collectors but also selling and shipping to my clients in the UK.
The opening was a huge hit , lots of sales and a great presentation.
check out this awesome gallery in Costa mesa.
I highly recommend checking out this space.

Johnny S is a friend and also works as a bartender at my restaurant so I might appear to be biased, but anyone that knows me knows that I always tell it straight and if I had hated the Aaron Kraten show at the Box Gallery I would have come right out and said it.

But, I loved the show.  So much that I was the first to buy a piece.  And the show hadn't even officially opened yet.  I couldn't make it to the opening because I had to work so I dropped by at around 2 in the afternoon.

Johnny, Christopher, Sarah and others were busily putting the finishing touches of the gallery/salon and getting set up for the art opening and Splitends Salon 1 year 1 month anniversary party.  All of the artwork was hung and I spent about 15 minutes admiring it.  I kept going back to a smaller piece--ink drawing on wood panel entitled "Torpedo".  I must admit that all of the work was amazing, but I liked the simplicity of the ink on wood over the larger much busier multi media pieces.  So, I told Johnny to find his little red dots because his show was going to open with a piece already sold.  They took my money right there and since my piece was showing on one of the hair stations instead of hanging on the wall Johnny delivered it to me after the show.

I missed the actual opening party, but I heard from several people (including Christopher and Christina S. the following morning at brunch) that it was a blast and went off without a hitch.

I hear that The Box, J Flynn Gallery, and The Artery all plan to have openings on the same night throughout the year.  If they are able to keep it going it will be great for the emerging SoBeCa (as much as I hate this made up moniker it seems to be sticking) neighborhood and the Costa Mesa art community.

Great show and I can't wait to see more.

I love art galleries. In college my best friend was an artist who would take me to all sorts of crazy galleries and exhibits and I always loved it but had a hard time finding great galleries outside of LA until last night.

I had heard lots and lots about The Box and how these events are free and filled with alcohol (which is always an automatic plus for me) but what I found was a truly sincere and very professional art show that had an awesome dj, some very distinct and talented artists, and a great atmosphere for guests to meet, drink, talk, and even play with sidewalk chalk!

If you like art even a little you should come to the next event they have. I am totally enamored by the artists Orange County and The Box exemplifies the sincerity of this art community.

The Box had its grand opening on January 12Th featuring the works of Aaron Kraten. The Box Gallery itself is located in a two story  box like looking building. It is within the Splitends Salon. The grand opening party was fun. But I am not going to Yelp the party. True there was an abundance of alcohol, coke, diet coke and water and  food catered by The Rooster and the music was great.  Johnny Sampson is the curator/owner of the gallery. Stop by and check out the works of Aaron Kraten before the show ends. I am looking forward to the next show that Johnny whips up.

I wish I could give six stars. The new artist Joseph Hawa is unlike any of the previous shows I have seen. Very textured, very white...I commend Johnny for his diversity. Also, these people just plain old know how to throw down. Dj Oldboy was off the God damn chain. Dancing, and they had these amazing treats from Lush Pastries there. I mean cookies are one thing, but AIRBRUSHED and STENCILED cookies bring it to a whole new level. Not to leave out great conversation and free booze. What more could ya want in a night? Kudos to The Box!

the place is extremely SMALL. the people are pompous and aren't very friendly either. if you want to be around 'cool' hipsters that don't talk to you, this is the place to go!
